Hello everyone, I work at Citroën, in short the engine is fantastic. Do maintenance every 10,000 miles, oil as of 2 months 2024 is 5w30 and belts are changed at 82.83 atmospheres at 80,000 and turbo at 110.130 at 60,000 miles, we have learned that the Cars that travel longer distances wear less belt - which means the engine is fantastic. Just done mine with the same locking kit, torquing up the bottom crank bolt is the worst though, I was worried about the crank locking pin cracking the aluminium housing on the engine, ridiculously tight, 50NM then 180 degrees, but obviously not the case for you as you had a pin spanner to hold the hub, maybe the locking pin isn’t meant to be used when tightening the bolt ?
As a dealer tech we dont remove the engine, only if the oil pump has to be replaced but with a special tool U can pop the strainer off the pickup without removing the oil pump and cleaning it and refitting it. The newer later engines still under warranty U can only do by removing camshafts as U cannot sneak the belt past the sprockets Make sure u remove the gauze filter in turbo feed line at block connection as it can block with rubber starving turbo of oil. Make sure U buy a belt checking tool to examine the belt width as it's likely it will need changing before the replacement interval and if done early U won't have to clean all the rubber particles through out the engine.
Hi, Nicholas! Great job with changing the belt! Also, I really appreciate your time to kindly and positively reply to everybody! I also have a question. I am buying a Grandland X with this exact engine. The car is from 2018 and is only 25k. Is it necessary to change the belt?
Hey, thank you for the compliments :) theres a special tool to check if it needs to be replaced, the dealer has this. You can also check how the belt looks like when you open up the oil filler cap. If it looks nice and smooth, I dont think its necessary to replace it right away. However when you reach 60K i would to it preventive together with the oil change.
@@adriang.7017better get the 1.5 Diesel in the Grandland. I had the car for over 5 years and it needed much less fuel than the 1.2 gasoline engine. The 1.5 130 hp engine has also no wet timing belt.

The idea isn’t really wrong, but the belt isn’t suited for today’s petrol. Short distances with a cold engine (lot of blow-by) and E10 petrol is what kills these belts. When these engines only do long distance driving, they will last a very long time. When this engine came out E10 wasn’t really common.

Step back and think. It is a wet-belt-engine and designed to fail by this "wet-belt" choice. Never buy a "wet belt" car. Your time and money must be spent on more profitable things for you. Not spent on profits for the engine manufacturer, profits for the belt manufacturer, profits for the Chinese tool maker...etc... Think what you are doing !!!
Hey Thomas. Like i mentioned, the engine is removed because the engine needed to be replaced, so I saw a great opportunity to record a belt replacement.
@@MechaNick_ Hello when you put on the new belt. The belt does not seem to be stretched between the 2 camshaft pulleys. At what point does it get tense? thank a lot .
Some of these manufacturers just try to reinvent the wheel all in the name if efficiency while there are no efficiency gains. If want to use a timing belt for cost and efficiency reasons use the traditional style. If not use a timing chain and call it a day
It's not a good idea to use a torque wrench when tightening the cranksaft gear bolt. The wrench is clicking but you keep on turning to reach 180 degrees on the gauge. This can damage the torque wrench.
Easy? Ah in order to replace a timing belt.. You had to dismantle a whole engine.... I had a Citroen C3 2016 1.0 petrol 3 cilinders pure tech engine .... Never again......
From 2014 for Peugeot/Citroen and from 2019 for Opel gasoline models they have this series of engines (EB2). Also, Toyota needed this engine for the ProAce City model. Jeep and FIAT did the same thing (look to the Jeep Avenger and the new FIAT 600, instead to be an electric motor too). EB2 was awarded as "The Best Engine" three times. Ford's Ecoboost from 2012 if I'm right. Every Ecoboost engine has this type of belt.
Maybe you could help me or advise me with my problem? I have a new Opel Mokka 2021 (New Mokka) with an engine EB2ADTD. I have a strange vibration in the cabin. The problem can be heard in this video (best from 8 sec): th-cam.com/users/shortsXROtr_3lFKM When I turn off the engine, the vibration intensifies for 1-2 seconds and then stops. I have a suspicion that this has something to do with the timing belt or the accessory belt. I think so because one of the Mokka owner's had a similar problem on a similar car (similar engine) and after replacing the belt all the sounds disappeared. My problem gets worse if I turn off the air conditioning (climate). If I turn it on, the sound is much quieter or there is no sound at all. The mileage is only 10,000 km and the car is 3 years old. The car is used in difficult conditions - very short mileage, long warm-up. Maybe you have some ideas? Could this sound be the cause of problems with the timing belt, belts and rollers?
Puretech? PuresXXt! It was designed to fail, I state. A mechanical (motor-design) engineer can never have knowledge of all aggressive ingeredients in motor-oil (a lot!) that attack the rubber belt. Let alone the working temperature. The oil can be 100 C or more., for a long time. Compare that with an outside belt: clean air, 50 C max. Hence: designed to fail. Never buy a wet belt engine, wait and save you money.
Not sure why people moan a lot. Take it to a decent garage who will use the correct oil, not whatever the cheapest crap out of GSF and inspect the timing belt which takes a few minutes. Then just replace when it's due, as you would on any other car. I would have said timing chains are better but not anymore. I can't think of any decent engines that will last the life of the car now, Toyota's included.
Are these manufacturers thick ??? if one does something the others follow suit regardless of wether it’s any good or not,dry timing belts were bad enough but wet belts are a catastrophe waiting to happen and cost twice as much to change because of the labour involved. I would never buy a vehicle fitted with one of those belts fitted, Ford want their head testing fitting a 2litre diesel in the transit with a wet belt fitted,it’s no wonder their losing market share turning junk out like this.
Just realize after polish youtuber prof. Chris making his "necropsy" with PureTech that is very good motor actually instead of social media hate-speech. It is just very sensitive on bad or too rare maintenance. You have to change oil at least 10.000km and check every time state of timing belt by removing oil pan which is not a big problem (13 bolts and sealing mass, you even do not have to buy special gasket). If timing belt is in bad condition just replace it. But as I sad, often oil changing intervals making this engine very reliable. See movie from, as he called, "puree" motor:) th-cam.com/video/4ke_sZ4bcGs/w-d-xo.html
The people at PSA must be complete idiots. Anyone who builds something like that must have roof damage! Just look at the internet with the hundreds of reports about the premature death of timing belts.
Nothing easy, Citroën give approximatly 3h for timing belt changing and the oil carter ,You don't clean it (belt residue in oil crépine) I refuse to do this shit engine.
The engine is removed because the old engine has damage. So i am working on a new engine here. A replacement. And i thought it would be easier to show you guys when engine is out.

Hey man! Thanks :) i bought a GoPro Hero 10 black. First i used my phone, but its hard to film and work with one hand. The hero is super useful with a magnet stand.
For 1.2 puretech engines; just use right engine oil coded "B71 2302 or B71 2297" These engine oils are formulated to avoid damaging the timing belt. Other than these engine oils that you think are of high quality will damage the belt. just use B71 2302 or B71 2297 PSA approved engine oils..
And also the B71 2010 (0W-20 C5) for almost every engine from 2018 onwards (Euro 6.2, 6.3, 6.4...)
Great tip!
No don't use the locking tool for this, you can break it! Just use a counter torque like I did.

Newer generations of these engines have chains but how do you find out for sure ?
What's the Kia Petrol 1.0 T-GDi ISG like ?
I would need an engine code or VIN.
nice tuto
As a dealer tech we dont remove the engine, only if the oil pump has to be replaced but with a special tool U can pop the strainer off the pickup without removing the oil pump and cleaning it and refitting it. The newer later engines still under warranty U can only do by removing camshafts as U cannot sneak the belt past the sprockets
Make sure u remove the gauze filter in turbo feed line at block connection as it can block with rubber starving turbo of oil. Make sure U buy a belt checking tool to examine the belt width as it's likely it will need changing before the replacement interval and if done early U won't have to clean all the rubber particles through out the engine.
The belt is not the reason I removed the engine.
It literally says in the first 6 seconds of the video that the engine was removed because of engine damage....
Another wonderful design, built to fail and scrap the car.

The idea of a wet timing belt is just WRONG!
The idea isn’t really wrong, but the belt isn’t suited for today’s petrol. Short distances with a cold engine (lot of blow-by) and E10 petrol is what kills these belts. When these engines only do long distance driving, they will last a very long time. When this engine came out E10 wasn’t really common.

when you put on the new belt.
If not use a timing chain and call it a day
Agreed.
what you forgot to mention is the manufactures know of this issue and there is a service bulletin on this wet belt issue the whole motor trade of this

It's not a good idea to use a torque wrench when tightening the cranksaft gear bolt. The wrench is clicking but you keep on turning to reach 180 degrees on the gauge. This can damage the torque wrench.
Our torque wrenches get calibrated twice a year. Never had any issues with it.

I have never in my life heard of a wet timing belt. . . who makes this engine?
Peugeot/Citroën (PSA) and Ford (1.0 EcoBoost)
Also ford 2ltr deisel in trasit and vw use wet belt for the oil pump on 1.6tdi
And Opel in Astra K 1.2 2019-2021, but I don't know if they have issue with reliability.
The problem can be heard in this video (best from 8 sec): th-cam.com/users/shortsXROtr_3lFKM
When I turn off the engine, the vibration intensifies for 1-2 seconds and then stops.
This engine is great if you have proper manteince servise simply as that
Turn over twice an recheck

Not sure why people moan a lot. Take it to a decent garage who will use the correct oil, not whatever the cheapest crap out of GSF and inspect the timing belt which takes a few minutes. Then just replace when it's due, as you would on any other car. I would have said timing chains are better but not anymore. I can't think of any decent engines that will last the life of the car now, Toyota's included.
Most owners just do whatever is the cheapest... its stupid but its what they do.
easier as you think ? try it with the engine in the car :-D
Still doable :D easier as you think i mean its just a belt and a tensioner.
Indeed, for me it doesn't make sense. It only makes my boss happy because of the labour time xD
