  • Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of British Columbia, Liard Hot Springs is a natural haven that seamlessly blends history, geothermal wonders, and serene tranquility. This hidden gem along the Alaska Highway boasts a captivating backstory, dating back to its Indigenous significance as a place of rejuvenation and healing.
Liard's unique appeal lies in its geology - it's situated within the Northern Rocky Mountains Trench, an active geothermal region. The hot springs' therapeutic waters bubble forth from deep within the Earth's crust, offering a soothing embrace that travelers have cherished for centuries.
What sets Liard apart is its careful preservation of nature's beauty. The wooden boardwalk meandering through the area not only guides visitors to the springs but also protects the delicate ecosystem. This path echoes the footsteps of early explorers and fur traders who sought refuge in these very waters.
As you immerse yourself in Liard's warm pools, consider that this geothermal delight is nestled within the historical context of the Alaska Highway's construction during World War II. The journey to this oasis echoes the paths trodden by those who shaped the region's history.
Surrounded by the lush boreal forest, Liard is home to diverse wildlife - from moose to bears, and a chorus of birds. The harmony between nature and human interaction is palpable, a testament to the dedication to coexisting with the land.
Intriguingly, Liard also offers a glimpse of the night sky free from light pollution. Stargazing here is a captivating experience, revealing constellations and the breathtaking Northern Lights - a celestial spectacle that complements the terrestrial wonders.
Liard Hot Springs is more than a soak; it's an invitation to dive into the interplay of history, nature, and geothermal marvels. Beyond the picturesque pools lie tales of Indigenous heritage, early exploration, and the enduring spirit of preservation.

The Hanging Gardens area was the scene of a black bear attack that left two dead and two badly mauled. There are a number of videos here on TH-cam about this, Liard Hot Springs Black Bear Attack in search will pull them up
