I agree, as well. A year ago, when they seemed to have run out of steam, I was hoping that Toyota would see the light, buy Canoo and put it out as an E-Hilux.
Looking forward to Aptera for myself and Canoo truck for my roommate (she helps people move often, but only likes small trucks) the extendable 8ft bed is perfect
What I would like to hear more about when it comes to EVs is range, possible updates or improvements in battery technology, accessibility to charging stations, and a lot more about how EVs perform in cold weather since I live where we have winter. 0-60 times just aren't a priority to me yet every manufacturer seems to make that one of the first points about the vehicle. We already know on average EVs accelerate faster than combustion engines. Charging is going to have to be as easy and common as pulling into a gas station. As of right now, it appears an hour or more is going to have to be added to any kind of road trip for charging time.
Why would any manufacturer want their own charging infrastructure, let others do that and concentrate on installing the millions of charges that will be needed. I mean no manufacturer owns fuel stations anywhere in the world, tesla had to build out their charging network, they were forced to as otherwise charging would have been a real issue for their customers. It was money well spent as they encouraged the ev adoption of all manufacturers, proving ev's were viable, but it really was money thrown away as a startup in a new technology.
The better Aptera is the cheaper Aptera. 24kWh going 240 miles. 10 mi/kWh🙌 Why not 15kWh? This is key when battery production restraints exist, when real electric adoption is key.
I'm expecting a minimum of $5k price increase for all models. I'm expecting Rivian-like commotion because of it. I wouldn't fault them, as they aggressively priced the vehicle before the price of everything else in the world jumped by 30% or more.
The ones that excite me are the $30-$40k ones. Fiskar, Chevy and Nissan. I'm not sure on the others but Fiskar has like 5k towing capacity, all Aluminum body, some type of handling enhancements and looks cool. I love the Canoo but 200 mile range and no idea on towing really kills it for me. It'll be great for city dwellers though.
I love this channel and to see all the amazing EV’s being produced! I can’t wait till everyone in the world is driving one so I don’t have to breathe the exhaust of ICE’s when walking or riding my bike. Unfortunately, I’ll never be able to afford one. 😕
Great video. It seems like pretty much ALL of these EVs are not very affordable in the small market of NZ, even considering my high wage. Luckily we have a bunch of affordable Chinese EVs coming, which you didn't list :-(
These Chinese brands will not officially enter the U.S. market next year. The only one that is already there is Geely with its Polestar, Lotus and Volvo brands.
Really cool to see how the price increases well and beyond reasonable affordability of most people every year too. Sooner or later, cars will be a minimum of 6 figures and everyone who can't afford it "will own nothing, and be happier than ever."
why not put a fan blade on top of the car to produce more electricity for the battery's, and also dynamo on the wheels so as to increase the range. with a solar roof to keep charged when parked up. Briddy UK.
Very helpful info! It’d be great to have a full table (sortable) of the EVs including range, price, charging times (20% - 80%), and both 0-60 and 60-0 specs. I have been watching the EV market for quite some time. Personally, I want to see ranges >300miles (or even >350miles) at a reasonable price point (I know Tesla and Lucid can get there - but it comes at hefty price). I was hopeful for the Audi Q8 - had heard it would have a range >325miles. Maybe that will come with the Q6…?
I am waiting for the delivery of my Bolt EV 2LT. I drove one last week and the little car can really move. Fingers crossed there may be a 3 month window that includes the $7,500 federal tax credit.
For the US… Chevy equinox, maybe the blazer Ioniq 6 Cybertruck Fisker …of the list alex presented, I feel like these are the only truly accessible-to-the masses electric vehicles worth looking at and the ones that will have any real impact on the industry. The rest have shortcomings on range, charging, or price. Honorable mention to Vinfast.
It will be interesting to see who is actually making the drive-train for the Chevy Equinox. The Chevy Bolt drivetrain is made by Hyundai, shared with the Hyundai Kona EV.
I’m most excited by Canoo and Vinfast. They are both such versatile vehicles with solid specs that my only hesitation would be in the reliability/support aspect. If they can produce better quality than Tesla did when they first started shipping in volume, they’ll do just fine.
I always wonder why you always completely ignore the french brands; Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Dacia ( owned by Renault) pretty much all of which have multiple great EVs already on the market and outsell Tesla in France, plus all have new models coming out next year. Or is this list USA only, which is wierd as half of the ones listed won't be available in the USA in 2023 either.
That was an exciting vid Alex. I like the Kia GT6 but my 2019 Kona is still my #1. Just love the zippy nature of it. There is no reason why ANYBODY would not buy an EV next year with models starting at $30K. But some people still know diddly about EV's and we as EV drivers should educate and spread the word that EV's are superior.
A person who lives in a apartment with many units will have more annoyances owning a EV since there may not be enough charging stations for all tenants. We homeowners have it much easier charging at home.
This is like watching Top Gear: an overwhelming majority of the cars presented are unaffordable to most. The speaker is funny though. I might follow his channel.
Really enjoy this yearly series. Regarding Canoo, I think customer deliveries of their pickup truck is unlikely for 2023. They are focusing on their lifestyle lineup (van looking thing) with the emphasis on getting their lifestyle delivery vehicle ramped. If there are any customer deliveries in 2023, it will be for their lifestyle vehicle. Enjoy Austin!
I think you are incorrect about Cybertruck's 1MW charging. They said it is going to be 1000V architecture, but I do not remember anyone saying that the charging power will peak at 1MW.
Hard to believe that the starting price of the Silverado EV is less than $50K. Ford started at around $45K for their entry level Lightning which is now at $56K.
I almost bought one a few months back. But then they said they were adding on a market adjustment of $7000, so I told them to pound sand. Next year they will be begging people to buy them in the US when they no longer get the tax credit and they are competing against the NA made ones that get a tax credit.
I'm more of a Ford guy but really hoping the Silverado ev doesnt disappoint. I reaaally want to see an affordable ev truck with good range. Will also be interesting to see how cubertruck turns out. I'm not a fan of the cybertruck design but if it has good range and is cheap......then ok I guess. I'd much rather see a good truck from gm or ford though. The lightning is fine just not cheap and not good enough range. The rivian is pretty good too...i just want cheaper options.
I want an all electric Minivan that will get at least 350 miles. It absolutely does NOT need to go Zero to 60 in two dam seconds. Just average vehicle performance as it stands today would be very fine indeed. All this performance for what, so you can go and get stuck on the San Diego Fwy, or the San Bernardino 10 ?
Kudos for that "two dam seconds" And I would continue that other overlooked dimension: it needs to have a respectable production capacity...not two damn years. We want to drive it, not dream about having it, yes?
I'm looking forward to Aptera in 2023. I just pre-ordered one. Lot's of cargo space for traveling (25 cu.ft.), along with its 400 mile range that charges on the Tesla NACS network. Can hardly wait.
@@Sonoma_Coast it's hard to believe because you have to take into account the extreme aerodynamics of the Aptera that other cars don't attempt to achieve.
I just got to the Merc part of the video where Alex says most ppl don''t know that they aleardy have 7 e-models for sale. You know why ppl don't know, it's because their e-cars are crap for 6 figures, and no one wants to buy them.
I think Zeekr 001 another sub brand of Geely should have been in this list too. What I understand it is somewhat related to Polestar and Lotus too. It is coming to Europe in next year and I'm thinking about it.
Byd will best them all with affordability and fireproof battery safety. Meanwhile most grids have yet to adjust to ev adoption, meaning rolling black outs and can't continue subsidizing ev charging rates.
Dude I might of missed it but did you mention BYD? They are #1 seller and has 9 EV’s. And what about Mullen? They came out with a IGO and have the DragonFly.

Why don’t any of them come with photovoltaic cells or to help recharge while it’s sitting in the sun or artificial light in a parking structure ? They also don’t utilize turbine systems to recharge while the vehicle is moving? I know some have a recharge system tied to braking
A lot of interesting choices coming but the biggest issue I think new buyers have will be charging infrastructure. How are you finding your travels with VW and electrify America? Fast charging speeds are fine if there are enough chargers. This is probably where Tesla will hold the lead for a while.
I love my Tesla 3... but would really like a viable alternative when it is time to replace it. Part of that calculation is the charging infrastructure. I'm really, really hoping that in 3-5 years the other charging infrastructures are competitive with Tesla, and someone has an affordable offering as good as or better than the model 3. They're certainly getting closer, but nobody is there yet to my knowledge.
I believe it's being produced in the numbers GM targeted...? "Full-scale production" still means low numbers and scarcity, since GM still believes battery-electric vehicles are a niche market.

Thanks for your detailed video. But please be sure to check Turkish new EV brand named TOGG. First car is a C class SUV type of vehicle with dual electric motors, range up to 300+ miles
What are you smoking when you say that the Silverado will have 400 miles of range, 4 second 0-60 and be $39k???? How can you say that with a straight face?
I’d say at least averaging around the 30K starting price. The average car price, ICE or otherwise has gone up significantly, so I’m not expecting a miracle…but at least get more in the range like the Chevy bolt. The Bolt would we such a great car for many of the charging wasn’t abysmal. It’s only good for a commuter to work. Trying to do a road trip in that thing would be a nightmare, especially with a non-reliable charging network on top. But yeah, more affordable please!
The average price of a car is getting close to $50K EV or ICE. I bought my Hyundai Kona in 2019 for $40 K. You will NOT see prices for cars under $30 K in the near future. You just have to take a loan and make payments or wait for second hand ones 4 -5 years down the road.
Thanks Alex. Well done. Looking forward to Cybertruck, Aria, Genesis SUVs, and Equinox (hopefully). I wouldn’t buy anything than a Tesla unless it’s for around town…and has tech & safety that is close to Tesla too.
09:30 little correction, the Lightyear has a range announced at 1000 km or 621 miles… not 300 miles as mentioned in this video. In worst case scenario, 350 miles on highway and 390 miles (WLTP).
I believe Aptera also plan to start shipping in 2023
That is the plan but still uncertain until they secure the millions in funding needed to get them in production.
@@Tialian I number of cars that don't even have specs were included. It seems like Aptera would have been worth a mention.

Thanks Great Video informative too.
I will keep my Tesla Y for awhile. Good to see lots of options. Range has to be over 300 miles.
Lightyear 2 orders open today - pricing only $40k. Deliveries in 2025? No money down required. See Electrek for further info and pics.
I am watching this channel for a review of the Aptera motorcycle.
the Q8 Etron is just a refresh of the original etron. they just need more range in their nomenclature
Don’t forget Cadillac Lyriq!
What are you smoking when you say that the Silverado will have 400 miles of range, 4 second 0-60 and be $39k???? How can you say that with a straight face?
I think the Cybertruck is the elephant in the room.
And the small 🐘: Aptera! 😄👍
We really need more affordable EV’s for 30 k and lower
Thanks for the reply.

I have something for you !!!.
I have my eye on the corvette four door all electric for 2023 reveal😊 great show Alex! Thank you
Thanks Alex.
Thanks for the reply.

I have something for you!!!!
If it is 390 miles WLTP, it will be 300 or less real world miles.
