However i think the flow of the docu changed when obviously just like what Mithra said the episode where they made the contestants turn against each other has a high viewership rating. People tune in for the drama. That for me was a turning point to change the whole narrative of the docu. They know kpop fans will tune in but they wanted casuals coz we know their main target market was western market. So they needed a narrative to stir drama. If u have watch DA, u’ll know one of the main discussions/ conflicts by fans back then was Manon having the pretty privilege. When mission 1 came in the best team was Team Still into you (Nayoung, Lara, Sophia,Samara, Celeste)fans were awed by that performance alone that they were sure that Nayoung, Lara,Sophia, Samara was debut locked on. Mission 1 Manon’s performance was not that good but still she rank high below Nayoung,Lara,Sophia,Samara that’s when the issue of fans of the show saying she got that pretty privilege. Then when the episode where the contestants ask who they think wouldn’t want to debut Manon was one of the lowest votes. That again raise questions to fans that maybe there is somthing people don’t know about Manon for her co contestants to not vote for her. The finale of the show ended Manon was called last. Again another issue raise that her co contestants didn’t like her saying it was shown in their faces when her name was announced except Sophia& Lara and the rest of the katseye members who were so happy that she was included in the lineup. Manon’s fans were happy that she debuted w/ the members of katseye coz they knew she was in good hands since she was close to dani, sophia and soon will be close to the other members. However, another issue came up that fans think other extrainees like adela,ilyia didn’t congratulate manon when they congratulate the rest of the members of katseye in social media and naisha who wasnt even part of 20 commented on Lara’s insta congratulating her saying she was the only representative for the brown&black representation. Then Lara unfollowed naisha bec of this. Fans were mad of naisha. That for me was the turning point of the management to have an idea on what will be shown on the docu to stir drama. (I bet the mgmt have chose from these topics to be the main issue for the drama: 1. samara scandal 2. Nayoung solo issue 3. Manon’s issue 4. Lexi withdrawal 5. Contestants disappointed when Adela was instantly removed 6. Management would not debut 2 members who have the same representation 7. Sophia on why she is consistently#1 the most well loved by fans, why her co contestants love her, the judges& management always praise her leadership and work etiquette that she was very vital for the group stability even dubbed by fans as Sophia the first. Yepp basically i think the management pick from this topics to discuss 😅 It was weird to me that the docu shows even those who are not even part of the top 20trainees especially Naisha but then i realized it was because of the issue back then. It was weird to me that when Manon was in her aunt house there were cameras lol it was like the purpose was to get the clip of her saying she didn’t feel like going to practice. The timeline really isn’t giving lol. It’s giving me that they needed a documentation or a vid for the issue that the fans thought back then the reason that they have a lot of screentime in the docu. I know the docu was a mess but if u look at it in a different perspective it answers a lot of unresolved issues back then. However at the expense of portraying Lara&Sophia somewhat a villain for people who knew nothing about and have not watch the survival show before. If you watch the survival show the persons she was close to was nayoung, daniela,sophia. Now i know why she became close to sophia coz the docu showed that she wanted manon to get better and help her build her skill set and that she believed Manon could do it. To me this gave me a much more insight on why where the contestants sad when adela left, manon’s issue, lexie’s withdrawal, the reason why Sophia was very vital to the group aside from her being on top, lastly why the management sucks 😅 Props for Lexie for calling out the management i wish her the best. The docu just made me love and root for the success of Katseye especially Sophia. The way she wanted everyone to excel and didn’t want anybody to be left behind rather than just thinking of herself in the competition. And now i know why she constantly post videos w/ the rest of the contestants in social media back then knowing she have the fans votes for her fans to vote them too, to increase the votes of her fellow contestants. If you watch the show the fans voting gap of her aside from the contestants was very high. The words uttered by Mitra back then during the finale was really true that Sophia was the best example for everyone and that the show could ever have and Charles praises her leadership and work ethic that she strive to be better not just for herself but for everyone around her. With all the hate train going on I am not worried about Katseye coz i know they have the strongest bond, i pray for their success and hope that the management will promote them properly coz they already have a diamond in their hands coz Katseye have the potential to be one of the best gg on par with top kpop girlgroups. I never watched Dream Academy , I also don't follow KPOP , so I had a different impression when watching the documentary. I didn't view any of the girls as villains, I liked all of them, not just the final six. The only real villain was the label and mitra because they did do some shady shit like not being honest when asked by some of the girls if it was survival show, not paying the girls for their time, and the kind of cold way they eliminated them once the survival show started. I came away with a lot of respect for all of the trainees because of how difficult it was, and it worked as marketing because after watching the doc I bought the Katseye album, followed them on SM, watched their vlogs. I'm definitely a fan of the group now 💜. I hope they do a season 2 because I want to know more about the development of the group to their debut.

The thing is it's still awful treatment. Like if you create a new group you need to continually promote them (ESPECIALLY if they don't already have a huge fanbase predebut). Like I'm sorry but complete radio silence for a new group is deadly.

I’m in the middle of watching the documentary rn. (Like on ep 4) People been saying how it’s like Manon vs everyone because everyone thought Manon wasn’t as dedicated but she proved them wrong. So that’s why Manon is an inspiration to me because she didn’t know how to dance at all and her singing skills weren’t as strong but throughout the show she improved despite her missing rehearsals and she still became an idol & made it into the girl group KATSEYE.

If you watch the documentary. When Manon is announced to be in the group, no one is happy, even the coaches and trainers who worked with them for a year. I think that is very telling that she didn't work as hard or deserve it as much as other girls, especially the Emily girl.

Can I be honest? I don't get why people defend Manon so much and hate the other girls. In my opinion they had every right to be mad. It was unfair. Being an artist isn't about having a model face. Also this so called star quality is literally just her visual becouse she dosent even have the best stage presence and that's just me being honest. Adela had every right to be mad. She dropped out of school to be there. She worked hard every day since the beginning. She was a good dancer and singer with good stage presence. And yet, she got ranked last. Emily was literally a star and she didn't even make it. Manon didn't try anywhere near as hard as the others. She skipped practice for no reason which just showed that it didn't matter to her as much, that she is just doing it for fun. Not only that but that scene where the vocal coach was telling her she was wrong and she just gave her attitude was so bratty considering she dosent even turn up to practices...

Probably stop being a lil racist. You are not important enough to Hybe to get to decide what type of group you’re put into if you even pass their auditions and get selected for a debut line. You can’t complain about the club when you’re on the outside. Worry about getting accepted and surviving monthly evaluations before thinking about debuting. They will get rid of you straight away if you cause too many problems with negotiating a full contract with them.

I hate that Hybe is benefiting from this doc after legit dragged these girls through the mud. Like let along the eliminated girls getting a bad edit but the girls in the group.. I just see Manon’s fans doing the entire “we must protect her” despite her lack of skill and determination compared to the others in the group but god forbid Lara reacts to Manon legit ignoring her and hugging only 1 girl in front of her face
I agree with these points, except I am glad they kept the Manon drama in. During Dream Academy there were a couple comments made by staff that implied this may have been going on, but without the training footage from the documentary people watching the survival show didn’t have enough details to confirm if this is really what those comments were about. I personally didn’t support Manon during the survival show because those staff comments left a bad taste in my mouth, especially when I know how the K-pop system works and the importance of the relationship of the team. Those scenes in the documentary confirmed for me that I had assessed those comments correctly then, but then they also showed that she did take accountability for her behavior towards the end and that the girls made up, which of course was not shown during Dream Academy. So in the end the documentary managed to clarify the situation around those comments and resolve them as the girls start in their journey as Katseye.
She was scouted but she still had to audition to evaluate her abilities, that’s why they sent her trainers before moving from Switzerland to LA

Probably stop being a lil racist. You are not important enough to Hybe to get to decide what type of group you’re put into if you even pass their auditions and get selected for a debut line. You can’t complain about the club when you’re on the outside. Worry about getting accepted and surviving monthly evaluations before thinking about debuting. They will get rid of you straight away if you cause too many problems with negotiating a full contract with them.

@@Hanane-u1b I don't think you can debut with your friends, it's not impossible, but it's rarely. But, yeah, if you are a good trainee and you work hard, they will put you in Korean group. I could be wrong because I'm not that familiar, but yeah

I hate that Hybe is benefiting from this doc after legit dragged these girls through the mud. Like let along the eliminated girls getting a bad edit but the girls in the group.. I just see Manon’s fans doing the entire “we must protect her” despite her lack of skill and determination compared to the others in the group but god forbid Lara reacts to Manon legit ignoring her and hugging only 1 girl in front of her face

I agree with these points, except I am glad they kept the Manon drama in. During Dream Academy there were a couple comments made by staff that implied this may have been going on, but without the training footage from the documentary people watching the survival show didn’t have enough details to confirm if this is really what those comments were about. I personally didn’t support Manon during the survival show because those staff comments left a bad taste in my mouth, especially when I know how the K-pop system works and the importance of the relationship of the team. Those scenes in the documentary confirmed for me that I had assessed those comments correctly then, but then they also showed that she did take accountability for her behavior towards the end and that the girls made up, which of course was not shown during Dream Academy. So in the end the documentary managed to clarify the situation around those comments and resolve them as the girls start in their journey as Katseye.
