im a long time frost mage main and i already knew a lot but this video showed me some things i didnt really think of. seriously the best guide i've ever seen, thank you very much!
I am sad my fire spec is useless now, but this Frost guide made me hopeful again. You are so fun to listen to and a great guide writer...thanks so much for doing this!
Seriously the best explanation by far, nothing is forgoten, everything is quickly but completly analyzed, it took month to understand all that by myself and in a little 30mn it look all so clear, god. I look forward to see your fire and arcane guide since I want to play the 3 spec! :D Good Job Sir!
your guides are by far the best guides that i've come across ever. Are you going to be doing more guides for other classes and specs? I would really like to see your guides for both arcane and fire mage.
Do you have any plan to do warlock guide? I like to play as alt but still consider about which spec i should go for. (Btw your thumbnail pics are pretty cool are you drawing by your own?)
I'm actually working on my warlock right now but since there's so many changes to the core of the class in 7.2.5 I'm saving it for then. Until now, I kinda like them all equally but haven't formulated an opinion, plus considering the changes, quite pointless at this point. As for the thumbnails, I wish but they aren't, mostly artwork from the great fanbase that we have. ...Speaking of which, I should add the creator in the description :)
Coming from being a healer main and never having played any dps class, i was kinda lost with my frostmage. This guide was incredibly helpful! Thanks! ^_^
What I also like about this -- speaking about the guide now -- is that you remain unbiased about your favorite stile, you cover equally all the viable options, something I had trouble with previous videos I watched. You also aim to the average player, whereas other guides simply say "get to ilvl 999 then watch this guide". I mean, what fun are you having if most of your gameplay is focused on getting the highest ilvl possible so then you can start "playing"? Anyway, nice guide!
Thanks! - Probably not, there aren't really any changes to it that will make you change your rotation, TV will last less which is gonna hurt the spec but your general rotation thinking, stays the same. Double Ice Lance is been removed so that out of the table as well, rest stays the same. Unless Glacial Spike becomes the go to build but I covered that a little too... So I'll just focus on other specs/classes :)
Just a slight tweak, to be specific on the Crit(shatter cap) it's 33.34%. Small detail but can make a difference if you see your stat at 33% but in reality can be 32.50+% due to how the numbers round up in your stats window. EDIT: Is it is with every spec in WoW, stats are different for everyone, doing your stat weights(Simulating) will yield better results than what I could ever say. And is always a safer choice.
Needing the crit cap of 33.34% is a major misconception. Trying to get to the crit cap will most likely end up with your haste being way to low. You want to aim for 25% or more crit and having at the very least 20% haste (but more haste is always better).
I get your point, but having crit at 100% chance on your Shatter is more important than getting your haste to 25%, whats the point of having good Haste if part of your shatters isn't t going to crit? Any sim will tell you the same, as the expansion goes foward, you will be able to stack up more Haste with your crit at 33.34% and currently, frost mages aren't suffering for the lack of Haste for putting their crit at 33.34%, in fact, is the opposite, if you get a good set of Haste trinkets, plus your haste buff with Icy Veins (and Time-Warp) you will easily reach 100%, in fact having an overflow of Haste. (and not even adding Time-Warp with lego ring to this equation) Now that's not at all times, especially with the Thermal Void change in 7.2.5, and will obviously, depend on your gear, but you can easily get your necessary crit and have Haste between 20% to 25% currently, and frost mage as of this moment are doing more than fine in DPS following those rules. :)
It definitely doesn't seem like you main a mage, or you just grabbed a lot of your info from Icy-Veins or something. If you've gone on the mage forums or on the altered-time forums, most people agree that getting the crit cap definitely is not as important as you think it is. If you can it's best to try and balance your crit and haste and keep them rather even until you get close to the cap. And having more haste is very important because then you're able to get more frostbolts off which means you'll get more procs. You act as if having 25% crit is going to make it so almost nothing crits, when you will still have the large majority of your spells still crit. I'm sitting at a little over 26% crit and haste, I just went and dps'd a target dummy for a few minutes and after a total of 48 ice lances, 44 were crits (91%) and 4 didn't crit (8.3%) and about 2 of the non crit ones were times where I accidentally used ice lance without any procs, so if I wouldn't have done that then the percentage would have been closer to 95%. When you're going to be critting things that often then you don't need the crit cap, it'd be more beneficial to get haste so you can get more procs. If you look at a lot of the best frost mages in the world, it's very rare to see one with much more than 30% crit.
Well, I actually do not main a mage :). Is simply information that I got from playing it(I'm covering all classes) I understand that you don't need 33% crit to get the crits, in fact on mine I don't, I had 31% because I sacrificed it for the extra ilvl, and what I found out was that my ice lances were not critting 100% of the time, hence what I said. But yes you obviously still get mostly of crits. And I do know Altered-Time, in fact I went there just to compare my results with the mage community and everyone seems to agree that 33% is the perfect stat for crit(on the sims), after that starts losing value to Haste, in general,(which then Haste starts losing value to Versatility, but that's too 'high-end' for the guides I want to do) stat weights work in a weird way, and people tend to get different results. Now, I'm not saying your wrong, you might be right, it's simply my opinion from what I gathered. If I'm wrong well is my mistake, all the info that was getting and looking at, everything pointed to the 33%, and made logical sense, another thing to keep in mind is, Im, aiming the guides for the average player, not the high-end player, and stats tend to change over time, I dunno how your character is, but by getting to a certain point in your character your stat weights seem to shift. Thats one thing to keep in mind, if you are just the average joe wow player(which is what I am aiming), comparing yourself to a 915 ilvl mage is not a good idea, their gear and in turn, their stat weights are going to be different from Mage at 885. And in reality, I saw my damage suffer in the rounds of 880-890 ilvl range when my crit was around 25%, be the higher intellect(ivl) or whatever might be giving stat weights from an high-end character to a newly dinged frost mage are going to be vastly different. Still, I might be wrong, if that's the case, I just advise people to do their own stat weights. I do appreciate your input though.
Thanks! - In the description, I added the profile that I use(Tellmewhen, not Weakauras) I also added an image on how to add that profile in string(text) format. Hope it helps :)
When you have a bunch of FoF procs and then you get a brain freeze proc, you say to dump FoF procs and then use the BF proc instantly (and it shows you doing it on the video). But you also say to use frostbolt into your BF proc when you only have a BF proc (no FoF). Is there any reason behind choosing to skip frostbolt before BF after you've used your FoF procs. Seems like a bit of contradictory logic. Also, by not weaving in a frostbolt your chain reaction buff will probably falloff after doing 2-3 ice lance->flurry->ice lance. I just want to make sure I'm fully maximizing DPS. There are real big differences in my dps sometimes, maybe its just my proc frequency and movement. Ty for the guide.
Oh, thanks for pointing it out, yes, it's contradictory, there's no reason to be skipping that Frostbolt, you still want to weave in with that BF like I say after, unless you need to move. Although if you are in the Frozen Orb phase like I was in the video I find it better to dump BF quickly without Frostbolt, since you get many procs during that phase I prefer to...'clean' them fast before I overstack, plus there's a higher chance for you to get a FoF during it, screwing over your winter's chill ice lance..but doesn't always work out anyway...so see which way works better for you during that window. Outside of it, you want to weave it in absolutely.Bad wording on my part. Just to make it clear, if you have FoF procs and brain freeze, dump fingers of frost first, then Frostbolt>Flurry>Icelance(shatter)
I have a question, what do you do when Ebonbolt is off cool down and the glacial Spike is also ready? so basically when both of them are ready which one gets priority first? Do you go with EB>Flurry >IL first or do you go with glacial Spike and what rotation should I execute? This is for 7.3 of course, Glacial Spike spec
Best guide, thanks! But I would like to hear some more about Glasial Spike and rotation/items for this talent (just trying play with this talent), and see what items you use. However, very nice video, 100% Like
Great guide, but I still need to understand a couple of things: - when the basic rotation frostbolt + ice lance (if FoF up) should start? At 3 stack of FoF or at 1 stack? - If I have to dump the Fof stack because I have Brain freeze, I only cast Ice lance or I dump my stacks using frost bolt+ice lance? -In the BL+Icy Veins window isn't a loss of time to move back and forth to use the double ice lance trick?
Thanks! So - 1: You can use an Ice Lance + Frostbolt with FoF whenever it pops up but if you only have 1 or two you can hold on to them and keep track of your Incanter's flow and Chain Reaction once you are in a good spot(Good stacks), use it. It's not a must, it's a small thing but in long run is going to improve your DPS. 2 - If you have to dump FoF for Brain Freeze, you dump them all quickly without frostbolt, once you only have a Brain Freeze proc, do Frost Bolt > Brain Freeze > Ice Lance. 3 - During BL+Icy Veins window...is kinda hard to answer because is going to depend on the boss fight(how big the hitbox is) but the idea, if you are far way is to use Shimmer, which doesn't break spell cast's nor is on your Global Cooldown to do your double ice lance, then move back in between your Global Cooldowns (Frostbolt + Ice lance, move a little bit) but again that is all going to depend on the boss and room, but that's the general idea. You never want to stop doing your spells to move back or forth, if you do, then the double ice lance becomes worthless. ( Just keep in mind Double-Ice Lance might be fixed in the future )
If you have 5 icicles but you dont get a fingers of frost or brain freeze, should you just then throw a ice lance to get the icicles off, or should you cast frostbolt until fingers of frost? :)
Very helpful guideI Regarding our weapon, normally we should do ilvl because it's most important? I have BIS 880 frost relic that reduces reduction of IV and a 890 frost relic that increases ff by 25 %. FF has become more used in my dps rotation. I just got the 890 relic to reduce IV CD. Do you think I should just use replace the 880 to 890 reduction in IV or should I replace the 890 ff 25% for the reduction in IV?
Hi I did not understand a trick you said in your video that to do the double icelance in the middle of the flash of frost before launching the burst you must launch a icelance is that right? Sorry I am French and I ' Have a limited English
So basically, when you are with Timewarp and Icy Veins, you can use 2 ice lances, in the same way as you would use 1, but to do that you need to shorten the distance you have to the target as well, about 10/15 yards is enough, you can do it by using blink or just by actively moving your character. If you still can't do it, you have to change some MS/input tolerance settings. But before going through that trouble, try doing without it first. (Some trinkets can also allow you to do it but those 2 spells are a sure thing) Edit: The double ice lance, might be removed entirely in the next patch, something to keep in mind. My french is rusty but..
Thank you for the answer yes yes indeed I try to do the trick of the double ice lance advancing and blink but it does not always always 15 meters. Jewel I have the jewel of the anomaly in 895 and that of Gul'dan in 895. About the latency server with avanceds options it has to put to how much to allow it or so that it is necessary to do it? And yes I also saw that the trick will work more but for the moment I really need to get there;) thanks in advance for the answer
Oh if you already are using that method, you need to input a number to fit your latency, you can experiment with it but I believe 75 is an amount that works for most.
I tried a 75 last night and I could not really place all of them I have to do it wrong I have basically I am a 750k dps with 907 ilvl what for me is very low I think (thanks for this Very nice video successful
Situation: 2 FOF and 1 BF. Should I use: 2x ice lance + furry + ice lance or 2x ice lance + frostbolt + flurry + ice lance. The later helps to maintain chain reaction, why you recommend the former?
That was a mistake on my part as some people pointed out, later I say to always do a frostbolt with flurry then ice lance, was just with FoF procs bit that I goofed :)
There's really no 'cap' or perfect value for Haste, as long as your crit is at 33%(33.34%), just stacking up Haste seems to be the way to go currently :)
For Glacial Spike? It's essential the same, just try to stack more Mastery and focusing less on Haste and Crit. But doing your stat weights on a sim(if you know it) will tell you better than I can since is going to depend on your character. But the idea is to focus more on Mastery than Haste or Crit but still maintain some since it still benefits you but not as much as Mastery.
chain reaction>indcantors flow.. you should be tracking both and makeing decisions after both of them.. lets say your incanters flow is at 4 and chain reaction at 3 and you have 3 fof procs. you should dumb all the procs as fast as you can, and not cast frostball in between
23:40 you say to dump all your FoF then BrainFreeze Flurry... umm. you should frostbolt before your BrainfreezeFlurry. But then later you say to do what i just said.
Why in all of frost quide everyone talk abt getting 33% cap cos its not nessesery anymore. A lot of high dps player with 10/10 mythic dont care abt crit anymore. Cos all of stats are important. Getting crit cap mean that u gonna lose haste int or versality.
Its really important that you shatter every frostbolt and ice lance after flurry because it gives you guaranteed crits and therefore a shorter cooldown on your icy veisn. 33% is the exact amount that every spell after flurry will always shatter. Obviously you won't drop an item with hugely better haste, but if you have items that are the same ilvl and you aren't at the crit cap then you should be prioritising crit
ye i agree with that. But getting crit cap is really hard. U need be very lucky to get proper rings and almost all of ur item need to have crit stat. Atm i wearing 890/885 ilv rings that to increase my crit to 30%. Its easier with shade of exodar but its more fun for me to use gloves. Btw very good quide:)
Good guide but the stat priority is wrong. 33% crit is only what you go for after you cannot improve haste/vers/int any further (which is extremely unlikely since you never want mastery). Priority is: crit (25%)>haste>=vers>=int>crit (33.34%)>mastery. everything else seemed fine.
Traits he made 2 switcharounds, but you want to get those 4 ASAP anyways after your 4th golden trait. Stat priority is fine, please explain whats wrong it ? There is no rotation in frost, so please explain that aswell.
big misconseption that crit stays top till 33%, Intellect is not second priority, Haste is number one priority till you get enought so you can double IL with icyveins only, What atleast i didnt catch he even mentioned.
I swear you make the best guides you make everything so clearly because.
A. you cover it with audio
B. you also put it on the screen
I see alot of people making guides and only doing one but if you combine it just makes it 10x more easy to understand what is going on.
Great job!!!
Thanks, I really appreciate it! :)

I am sad my fire spec is useless now, but this Frost guide made me hopeful again. You are so fun to listen to and a great guide writer...thanks so much for doing this!
mine too i had to change it fire not good lately
Seriously the best explanation by far, nothing is forgoten, everything is quickly but completly analyzed, it took month to understand all that by myself and in a little 30mn it look all so clear, god.
I look forward to see your fire and arcane guide since I want to play the 3 spec! :D
Good Job Sir!
Thanks! - Fire mage guide is actually up already and Arcane is possibly coming tomorrow. :)
I just rerolled from a monk to frost mage and this is by far the best video. Keep up the good work!!
your guides are by far the best guides that i've come across ever. Are you going to be doing more guides for other classes and specs? I would really like to see your guides for both arcane and fire mage.
Thanks! - Fire is coming later today(ran into an issue) Arcane will also come soon, probably in 7.2.5 as most other specs/classes. :)
Dun even understand why your guide make every class, look so damn interesting. Thank a lot for making it tho keep up the work .
Haha, thanks but I imagine that will be a challenge for some.

Thank's mate.
Great video. Thank you for choosing to make guides for average geared players.
What I like about this is that Frost and Marksmanship play very similarly, and they're my "2" main specs in Legion c:
Best Frost Mage Guide erver !!! Nice job mann.
Agree....the best one
The best frost mage rotation guide. Thank you! Will you be doing an updated 7.2.5 guide? Or will it be the same?

Amazing explaining! Also, would you please make a vid on your auras? I'm sort of a nub and find that quite helpful! TY in advance hehe! ^^
Thanks! - In the description, I added the profile that I use(Tellmewhen, not Weakauras) I also added an image on how to add that profile in string(text) format. Hope it helps :)
Oh thank you so much! U are awesome! Keep doing this please! ^^ :)

Just to make it clear, if you have FoF procs and brain freeze, dump fingers of frost first, then Frostbolt>Flurry>Icelance(shatter)
Excellent video, thank you!! Wondering how you isolated the icy veins buff icon?
Thanks! - If you mean the Aura, thats from Tellmewhen addon, if you install it, theres the settings and how to put the profile in the description :)
its really helps me thx man keep up the good work
How did you move buffs like Incanters flow and timer on Icy Veins to the middle of your screen? Awesome guides and helped alot!
Thanks, and is from the 'Tellmewhen' addon, I added the profile/settings in the description and how to apply it :)
Selwen, very helpful guide thank you so much!! I wanted to ask what Curse Addons do you recommend me using ??
Best guide, thanks! But I would like to hear some more about Glasial Spike and rotation/items for this talent (just trying play with this talent), and see what items you use. However, very nice video, 100% Like
Great guide, but I still need to understand a couple of things:
- when the basic rotation frostbolt + ice lance (if FoF up) should start?
Outside of icy veins, should I include frozen orb in my rotation?
If you have 5 icicles but you dont get a fingers of frost or brain freeze, should you just then throw a ice lance to get the icicles off, or should you cast frostbolt until fingers of frost? :)
got my mage to 110 on sat my first lego was the frost gloves. Do they become less valued in the patch due to the TV nerf?
hey nice video ! im new to the game but your cooldowns etc is that also good for in pvp ? and thats what stand in the description right ? thank you !
learned so much dude. Thanks!
Good job pal, you also got a great channel :-)
Thanks!
Thanks, help me a lot 👌🏻
dude whats that addon that makes the skill bars cool
Very helpful guideI Regarding our weapon, normally we should do ilvl because it's most important? I have BIS 880 frost relic that reduces reduction of IV and a 890 frost relic that increases ff by 25 %. FF has become more used in my dps rotation. I just got the 890 relic to reduce IV CD. Do you think I should just use replace the 880 to 890 reduction in IV or should I replace the 890 ff 25% for the reduction in IV?
Yea, I usually type in best relics but higher ivl is usually better than the effect(most of the time), in your case I would use the 890 one.
Are you going to do all the classes?
Pretty much, yes, anticipating 7.2.5 for most of them though.
awesone guide, on pvp can be used the same mecanics?
Thanks - I don't do much PvP, but probably yes, some slight changes in talents to cater to that and whatnot but yes.
So helpful! Thank you!!
(Some trinkets can also allow you to do it but those 2 spells are a sure thing)
Edit: The double ice lance, might be removed entirely in the next patch, something to keep in mind.
No problem, you can always try and go a little higher though.
NP, this guide is the best around here. The only I see to mention chain reaction and explain why to use said rotation! Thanks for replying.
What addons do you use?
so i have to question for trinkets Chrono Shard or Erratic Metronome with Whispers in the Dark
If Chrono Shard and Erratic Metronome are the same ilvl, Chrono Shard is better, more reliable.
i will try it :)
and how much need haste ? if i have Chrono Shard and Whispers in the Dark
There's really no 'cap' or perfect value for Haste, as long as your crit is at 33%(33.34%), just stacking up Haste seems to be the way to go currently :)
ty so much :)
Could you tell me the talents to use for mythic 10 plus and above
Lonely Winter - Shimmer - Incanter's Flow - Splitting Ice - Artic Gale(or Frost Bomb if you can use to its full potential) - Thermal Void
Hey would u tell me the stats to have for glacier build with mastery?
And ty it was helpful ur guides are awesome
For Glacial Spike? It's essential the same, just try to stack more Mastery and focusing less on Haste and Crit. But doing your stat weights on a sim(if you know it) will tell you better than I can since is going to depend on your character.
But the idea is to focus more on Mastery than Haste or Crit but still maintain some since it still benefits you but not as much as Mastery.
am 909 frost mage I got 24 critical 29 haste and simcraft Sims me at 103989 dps. and it keeps telling me to stack haste.
trey stack crit so all ur shatter IL crit, and haste to get double IL in BF shatter proc
is there a Stat number am supposed to hit or is it just 33%
It is 33.5% and you have to stack versa as much as u can, crit=33.5 > int > haste > versa=mastery
trey you should get at least 25-30% to go for other stats.
Your stats are pretty much fine, as long as you have around 25% crit or more then you're good.
TMW copy is only in english lenguage? Can i use it in spanish? please answer me
I don't know exactly, should work in Spanish.
I try and I do not appear the icons of the skills only the empty pictures, I'm changing it to English :)
Yes, it only works in English :) thanks.
A question the icon that is staked up to 3 that is?
Its Chain Reaction(trait), Ice Lance damage increase every time you crit.
chain reaction>indcantors flow.. you should be tracking both and makeing decisions after both of them.. lets say your incanters flow is at 4 and chain reaction at 3 and you have 3 fof procs. you should dumb all the procs as fast as you can, and not cast frostball in between
subscribed. a no brainer really.
this or arcane?
My item lvl 855 but my dps 450-500k in myhtic dungeons and raids :/
Diyetler Diyetliyiz thats good for ur ilvl
I'd rather open up with Frostbolt -> IV -> Ebonbolt to buff ebonbolt with chilled to the core tbh
Ebonbolt > IV right after(spam right before the red bit of the castbar) > Flurry > Shattered Ice lance > Frostbolt.... There you go
23:40 you say to dump all your FoF then BrainFreeze Flurry... umm. you should frostbolt before your BrainfreezeFlurry. But then later you say to do what i just said.
Yes, that was a brain fart, someone else pointed it out too, is supposed to do Frostbolt every time with Brain Freeze(Flurry) like I say after.
That's what I was telling him.
Thank u so much... ure a life saver
i think i need ur help :P
Info overload... my brain hurts
you got a "brain freeze"? Badum Tss :-D
man i was hoping for arcane to shine this patch but frost is just too good. ill just stick to arcane pvping then lol
very confusing for beginners lol very fast
Half of the things are wrong here...
what half is wrong then?
Antti Juopperi there's always that one person who comes to guides only to pick it apart.
1. Trait recommendation
2. Stat priority
3. minor rotational mistakes
Sorry for late answer
Traits he made 2 switcharounds, but you want to get those 4 ASAP anyways after your 4th golden trait.
Stat priority is fine, please explain whats wrong it ?
There is no rotation in frost, so please explain that aswell.
big misconseption that crit stays top till 33%, Intellect is not second priority, Haste is number one priority till you get enought so you can double IL with icyveins only, What atleast i didnt catch he even mentioned.
