Damn! I never knew that coasting in neutral is bad. I think this applies to manual transmission as well. Yan kasi ginagawa ko sa old manual car namin thinking I'm saving fuel kapag malapit na sa destination. And to think of it, it's indeed dangerous since mawawalan ka ng control because you're in neutral. Kahit mabilis lng magswitch to gears, iba pa rin kapag nsa gear na mismo kasi minsan milliseconds lng ang pagitan ng aksidente.
yes sir. I use to do this on my old 2002 Civic 1.6 L AT. I would reach the top of a hill on my way to work and coast down the hill for almost 2 kms thinking I was saving fuel LOL. I have friends who were professional drivers (buses, trucks, and some who are engaged in drag racing etc) who occasionally drove for our family. I asked them if it were safe to coast in Neutral (MT and AT) and they would always answer that that is NOT safe but they would always fail to give a convincing reason. This led me to numerous research back then15 years ago as why it is not recommended to do this. The most common answer I found was again -- in Neutral -- you dont have any gear enganged and therefore you dont have immediate power necessary to take you out of any emergency situation & secondly as partially referred to in this YT video -- the cooling system for the automatic transmission is NOT working/engaged when you are in Neutral hence the risk of burning your transmission fluid and possibly damaging your transmission when you are freewheeling in Neutral. (Credit to the Honda guys who posted that answer in the Honda forum back in the days.), Lastly, if you read the manual of your car with an AT-- it says there that should you need to tow your vehicle --you are only advise to do this for less than 20 kms -- implying that since the vehicle is dead --the transmission is likewise not cooled in this situation. So there, I never went coasting again downhill on the mountain.

Kung nasa kalsada ka at may sasakyan sa likod mo, mas mabuting sa neutral mo ilagay. Pag aksidente kang nabangga ng nasa likod, hindi masisira ang parking pawl mo. Kung nasa parking, okay lang, ilagay mo sa Park.

I think there was an episode of Mythbuster that tackled this. There were 2-3 full grown men trying to put the lever on Reverse while the vehicle was running forward and they failed to do it.

"Don't coast to neutral" = Wag mo lalagay sa neutral kung umaandar pa yung sasakyan. For example pababa nagtitipid ka ng gas nilagay mo sa neutral para di ka na maggas kase may momentum pababa. Sa motor madalas ginagawa yan.
Un ngang Kia casa inilagay sa pms quote na need na palitan ang ATF sa 40k km/24 month PMS namin. Buti nalang tinignan ko un schedule sa manual. Not before 96 months or 80k km pa dapat palitan ang ATF. Syempre di ko pinagalaw ang atf. Pero nagpasign sila ng disclaimer note na hindi ko pinaservice un atf so walang fault ang casa if nagkaproblem sa transm. See? Even casa dudugasin ka ehh.
🤷♂️ yan yung sinasabi ko kaya need mo rin talaga check manual. Madaming depende kasi dyan. it is an AT; I had the same car. VTi. I never put it in D3, D2. I just put it in D all the time.

I think what you described na sequence ang Tama talaga; I just don't remember exactly where I saw this recommendation. Hinde yun one motion lang na from Drive -(neutral)- Park then Handbrake.
Naexperience ko 1 time nitry ko lang, downward slope tas nag neutral ako(#1) tas nung mag ddrive mode ako namali ako nalipat ko sa reverse eh moving forward pa ang car(#2) may malaking effect po ba ito? I dont do it naman namali ko lang once.

I think there was an episode of Mythbuster that tackled this. There were 2-3 full grown men trying to put the lever on Reverse while the vehicle was running forward and they failed to do it.

"Don't coast to neutral" = Wag mo lalagay sa neutral kung umaandar pa yung sasakyan. For example pababa nagtitipid ka ng gas nilagay mo sa neutral para di ka na maggas kase may momentum pababa. Sa motor madalas ginagawa yan.
Ang kontrol mo lang dyan ay preno. Hindi ka makakapag silinyador. Lalo na at may gusto kang iwasan na galing sa likod mo.
