Darn. I wish you would have used more footage from the Tri. It sure brought back one of the things I loved about FT when David was still in the crew. The super smooth air to air shots. No doubt, Alex is a great pilot but that small quad is too twitchy for great footage. I hope he gets the tri-bug from David and builds his own as a camera platform!

I'm glad he does his own videos too on his RCexplorer channel, but I do wish they collaborated on something like FliteTest EU. Or just have David shoot stuff in Sweden/Europe and release it here on FliteTest as well. Such an awesome personality.

Id love to see a What Multirotor is right for you episode. Where you compare extensively Multirotors such as Davids new Tricopter v3, a blackout mini quad, an electrohub hex, a QAV250, a knuckle hub, etc. Just an idea :)

I would love to see you guys build a simple roll/tilt stabilizer gimbal from servos that use the KK2 board. I'm interested to see how you like it and how you go about creating the gimbal. Thanks!
A tri-copter just by design is 25% more reliable, just due to the fact that there is one less motor and ESC that can fail.
Vparanormal1 You are forgetting the tilt mechanism and servo in that calculation. :)

correct but servos are pretty reliable and if it fails, the tri copter still flies, if you lose a motor on a quad, it is history.
Vparanormal1 motors and esc's are pretty reliable too and and what are the chances of a servo failing while its in its neutral position
Actually servos always fail in the neutral position. The servo uses wiper arms that mechanically contact a round potentiometer (contains graphite) and this slightly wears out in the neutral (1.5 ms) position. I always tell RC people to leave the servos after any flight in a random position to avoid this.
But in a tricopter if you loose a motor your dead but you can save it on a qua hex of Octocopter

The carbon fibre base plates that David sells are awesome, my first and still current tricopter (2 years strong now?) was built with his plate, and it's been a phenomenal bit of kit. Very well priced and durable as!
I hot-wire-cut a huge polystyrene canopy for it though, makes it easy to see the orientation at a distance and protects the flight controller.

Yea! It was great seeing David again. David is brilliant, yet it is his humility and love of life that makes me want to watch him on video. He has a gift that can't be taught, and draws in viewers.

I think its something about the very axial and precise yaw of tri-copters that makes them great for me.

Yeah Me and my Fiance have built a few planes for fun and then built the FT flyer....well we have broke 9 props in about 10mins so we are giving up trying to fly planes but getting Davids Tri Copter to go along with our 350qx2 ... We love watching the show and will continue to do so along with always trying to let new people know about it because you guys are so funny to watch !!

I'm sure this won't be read by you guys, but I just want it out there. I am new to the hobby and it's all because of you guys. I just bought the ar drone 2.0 and am loving the FPV and quad copter set up. I know it's not true RC, but I thought it would be a good beginner. Any ways Josh, Josh, David, and the rest of the FT crew thank you for showing me this amazing hobby I will one day share with my family.
So I'm flipping through TV channels and see carton drones, tris and quads. Turns out to be an episode of South Park. The whole episode was about drones. A lot of crude humor, but funny.

Im in the process of switching up my setup from my steadi qu4d drone and am looking to do 2 things and figured you may help me find the answer to one of them. 1. When using 2 of the 4 in 1 ecs’s how would you supply power to both of them ? 2 since I want to go from 4 x config to 8 x config to allow me to have a bigger payload, I want to use 2 batteries and noticed a xt60 harness for 2 packs in parallel adapter how would I measure each cell from my taranis receiver?

Great to see David Windestal back with the Flite Test crew! He sure had fun trying to keep up with Josh's flying style! That tricopter is soooo much smoother than the blackout mini for great aerial video.

Finally a real good review. Imho one of the best reviews of this year. You guys could have talked a bit more about the frame itself and maybe let david fly some smooth shots because that is what it is all about with this one but I really liked the scenes with only music and no talking.
Did David ever upload a Naze set up video with PID's? I never found one on his site.
So did david make a tricopter fan out of Alex ? Maybe make a return of the old favorite tricopter Arial cameras from flighttest past ?
