I checked the SOL list from 2016 and it says that carpenter's go under that list. I thought it was only professions like doctors, engineers and other works that require a good education.

Hi Ted. Both are skill shortage occupation lists of Australia. If you want to apply for any non-sponsored Australian PR visa (i.e. subclass 189) you need to nominate an occupation from the SOL list. And the CSOL is If you want to apply for any state or territory sponsored/nominated Australian PR visa (i.e.sublass 190)

Would it be possible for you to help me understand if my Mechanical Engineering Degree will count as a qualified education in the area of work experience, if I chose to pick "Systems Analyst" from SOL, as I would fit being a "Systems Analyst".
I want to understand if my case will be considered as Education + 10 year of work experience or will they cut out some of my years of work experience to equate Mechanical Engineering to a computer science engineering degree.

My background:
Highest level of education held: Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering (total year of education is 10+2+4).
After completing my engineering I bagged a job with one of the multinational IT companies and since then (almost 10 years now) I have been working in the IT companies, mainly developing and maintaining software. Out of these 10 years, I have worked in Australia for 2 year and 10 months and in USA for 2 year 4 month.

Hi Juan! If you have a business sponsor you are not restricted by regions. That only applies for Independent visas.

My three children studied in Aust. Two of them has four years of study with degrees one with Honours the other obtain degree in theology. The Youngest studied since year 11 and later has an honours degree and now pursuing medicine and in his 3rd year. We as parents have been working here for the last 12 years. My sister and her family are citizens. Many people have told us that we should qualify being here for quite a while and children studied here. There are many requirements to begin a business, and will include providing a business plan, proof of where you made your money, obtain nomination from a state, and the list goes on..... Out Of three EEE, if the education was not done in ICT, would ACS, not count Experience too ?

Astron, the 3 E's are a general guide. The best people to ask are the ACS, www.acs.org.au/migration-skills-assessment In general you can count experience towards an occupation only AFTER you are qualified. Check the ACS requirements as they do recognise Microsoft certification in some instances.

Hi KerimKl! Obtaining a work visa for a new graduate is difficult if you did not study in Australia. Also if the occupation code outlines that you need a degree, then there is no way of getting around that, unless you have a significant amount of experience. Unfortunately, your options are limited.

I am getting my degree in Criminal Justice in the US where I am a citizen. Can the SOL list also include Law Enforcement occupations?
At the moment there are no enforcement occupations on the SOL list. However Parole or Probation Officer, Police Officer and Prison Officer are on the CSOL. Generally we find it unlikely that government departments (including the police) sponsor applicants.

Would you recommend only to quit one's current job once one gets an AUS visa or PR or might there be ways to get an internship with another visa to gain some experience beforehand? I'm an Occupational Therapist (ANZSCO Code 252411 ) and still figuring out about my options so I didn't lodge the assessment to the OT Council yet. Do you think it might be realistic to get a visa this year if I get through the assessment smoothly? Dear 123Migration Australia. I've been investigating further on the requirements and as it looks I could probably only work as Occupational Therapist's Assistant (OTA). Unfortunately I couldn't find this occupation either on the MLTSSL nor STSOL (not sure I even found the real list though) so now I'm really frustrated. The only thing I found out when I googled it is that it falls into the category 423314 as "Therapy Aide". Do I have any chance to work in Australia as OTA?? If yes, how should I proceed?

Getting a sponsor is not as easy as arriving and getting a job. Firstly sponsoring costs money for the business, you must have a contract in a profession that is in demand, you must be qualified in that profession and there must be a good reason for the business to employ a visa holder before an Australian. Hi, if you apply for an independent visa, do you have to then find a job in the relevant occupation you applied for the visa with. For example, if I apply for visa as a marine engineer, can I work in a different occupation ... as a project engineer as some qualifications and experience is transferrable skills set.
You are not obliged to work in the occupation that you nominated for your independent visa.

+Anees Jan without a qualification the process is very hard. You will need to demonstrate that you have the skills required for occupation, in some instances you can do this and there are organisations that provide such services which assess your experience against a qualification however as you are self employed you will need to reply on documentation of your business to prove this. This process can be quite costly $4000AUD+ the amount of proof required is significant and there are no guarantees to the outcome.
