      They are unwilling to spend an extra dollar to have better quality/operations on rides. This is why they went with a semi unproven manufacturer for a redesign.

      It looks like maybe we have reached the limits of what they can make a coaster do with current technology. It appears a lot of these over 120mph coasters are tough on the wheels and trains and tears them or the launch mechanism apart after some runs

    • @CarolinaCycloneJames
      @CarolinaCycloneJames 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Exactly. They redid this whole ride. To supposedly "prevent another accident like what happened in 2021. Yet literally all they did was add a spike and removed the hydraulic launch. Yes I get it was unreliable. But they wasted all this money on a project that I honestly won't expect to open this year. As June we've heard no updates. They rarely test it now and it looks like that no one is even there to do research on it. At this point they should've just saved the money and relocated the queue for the ride and keep it as a hydraulic launch because at least it would only be down for a day or 2 instead of months like it is recently

Even though it was not a good idea for them to do it, at least they were more cautious even though what was already built was a mess.
      Rattlers first drop was changed and fixed quite a few times in its life due to the fast speed of the train wearing out the track and structural supports.

    I’d honestly tell zamperla to work on the Lightning Trains and purchase a set of the new generation intamin ones. Honestly, as good as they feel on Velocicoaster Pantheon, and most recently the revamped ones for Skyrush have all done very well. I don’t know why they don’t get next gen intamin trains in the first place. I mean they would fit the track, don’t know if weight would damage the zamperla equipment on the intamin track, but I think as tried and tested as those are they’re a safer approach than utilizing trains that haven’t been on a coaster of this size.

Those NEED to be fixed for what they charge for fast lane! I get the all season, so it doesn't matter what they charge daily, but they still charge WAY too much to make you wait as long as they do. If they deliver a dud, it will hurt their rep and cause huge loss in future revenue. So they will have plenty of motivation to deliver. Also, with the companies merging, this will be even worse for them. Before they could have ducked Cedar Fair and sold to Six Flags, but now they get screwed by both if they can't fix it timely lol

    Speaking of track I think the issue is around the switch track area. One of the videos shows the switch track lining up and the cylinder slides out and locks into main track. In the video when it does that shows a pretty good size gap and then shows the train zipping backwards over it. Im wondering if that gap is causing stress and tear on the wheel assembly considering its zipping over it at a 100+mph

Food options are also dwindling. No Pinks, No Melt, No food trucks, No subway, gross hot dogs and cheap walking tacos. No food under sky ride, only 2 choices at Panda Express vs,3 choices in the past. Deep dish or french bread pizzas and smaller portions. Customers pay more and continually get less. No wonder the animals are trying to escap🤣e😂😂. TT2 was fun to ride but only a few of us may ever know. Oh yea, no fountains, sprayers, waterfall, or innertubes at Cedar Shores. Ahh memories of the past when CP was the best. Maybe Six Flags can make positive changes, but Im not holding my breathe. That's what I like about Intamin. You would think they would be bankrupt by now (probably not, but at least the US division closed) with all the problems they had in the 2000s. But no, they kept on pushing through and slowly made their way back into the U.S. I'm not sure about their relationship with SeaWorld right now, but it seems Universal is building tons of Intamin rides.

    I'm torn on this whole project - I know from the beginning you really didn't like Zamperla taking it on, at all. While I didn't agree with the sentiment that they weren't a good choice given they have ex-Intamin folks working for them and Intrasys was doing the launch, you were right on that ultimately they took on a project that was unfamiliar to them as a company and it showed. The one aspect of the ride that was solely created by them (outside of the free standing spike) being the lightning trains, were under-engineered.
    I get why CP went with them as a business decision, and we don't know how sweetened the pot was for them to close the deal. But CP ultimately took a gamble that didn't pay off in year one.
    But say Intamin did take it on and there were problems again let alone another accident. This was a new concept for this sized spike/ reverse launch even for Intamin after-all. Now CP looks REALLY bad for going back to the manufacturer that built an unreliable ride in the first place.
    I hope for the park and all of us that it's up soon and this hiccup becomes a distant memory. I just think it might be unfair to completely write-off Zamperla as a company when year 1 coaster problems (especially with prototypes) are fairly common. TT2 is arguably the best ride in the park

    Keep in mind Top Thrill 2 is also adding insult to injury. Not only has it been closed all season but 6 days, the original was closed more than not all of my visits since 2003. This is one of the parks star attractions visually tore up a huge chunk of the park, destroyed the ambiance of the lagoons and central midway. When it isn't running it's a giant middle finger flipping you off and visible from everywhere in the park. Yes, it's a great park without his ride, but with it sitting there not in operation it does dampen your day. The experience feels incomplete. It's needed to help thin out the crowds which have become a major issue since the unfortunate and greedy installation of fast pass. Might be time to bulldoze it and build something worthwhile.

    Cedar fair is really the problem. They have been building basically prototypes or first of its kind attractions and expect it to be perfect. They did this with RMC, going big with Steve and testing new trains on Steve and TT. They also built the Railblazer, which was a prototype. You can say the same with every coaster by Intamin. And now getting zamperla to reimagine top trill 2 with a new ride design.

    I wonder if the profile of the trains is too tall causing too much stress as they whip through the twist on the way down the top hat, I remember reviews saying the forces there were much more pronounced now. Maybe they need to make all new trains not just new parts 😬

    Imagine there's also a problem with the wheel tolerances, since there were issues with shimmying when it opened. Those vibration loads would stress the bogies hard over thousands of cycles. Whatever happens, the good news is the Lightning trains will never need to travel that fast on another coaster. Highly doubt they'll go faster than 81 mph on the 70m (232 ft) Double Heart.

      I'm thinking they didn't get the track perfectly aligned back up when they tied it back in to the top hat. I think that's got a lot to do with it. Because when it would do the shimmy/jerk, it was right about where the track was pulled out.

  • @VinceHere98
    @VinceHere98 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

    It’s likely a problem with the track. They might need to re-track the top hat in order to get the ride operating again without any issues. You mentioned that you felt a rattle when riding the coaster, so the track could be the reason.

    • @Spike-sk7ql
      @Spike-sk7ql 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The track isn't the issue really. I think the problem was they didn't get it perfectly aligned when they reinstalled the track to the top hat. Also, that is all still the old intamin track. The only new track is the spike. During my rides, right about where the track was reinstalled is where the train would jerk really hard, and then go up the top hat. Also, the weight is further off the track now, so the 90° turn going up is pretty violent, and so us starting the 270° twist coming down. Then there's a jerk right before the brakes. Right about where they tied the track back in.

    I rode it twice on May 6th, the blue and the black train , it was kinda of windy that day but the ride was smooth, compared to dragster 1.0, but I'm thinking that the trains can't handle the Reverse launch up the spike, and it could be a possibility that the spike element might be eliminated, but they would have to move the launch area further back to get a direct LSM launch in Forward to get enough speed to clear the top hat , I hope I'm wrong because this is a badass ride, #2 worst case closed for rest of the season and all new trains for next season, again I hope I'm wrong and maybe they are just waiting for new fabrication of the modified wheel assemblies, the steel plates that were welded in, and then tested a few weeks ago

      CP's goal was to minimize maintenance costs, and Zamperla offered a weld-free train that would deliver on that. They had also hired several Intamin engineers, so they were confident in their technical skills to modify the first strata coaster.
      Also, Cedar Fair had been working extensively with Intamin to overhaul Xcelerator, had no interest in adding other new attractions from them, and was wary of taking on additional projects with them.
      Working with Intamin on TT2 would probably have been smarter as an individual project. But CP already has to deal with a lot of downtime from another Intamin launched coaster in Maverick. Switching to another manufacturer who routinely provides the chain with new flat rides likely made more business sense.

    • @Spike-sk7ql
      @Spike-sk7ql 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@brianfoss571 how's that working out for them now? Just because zamperla hired ex Intamin engineers, does NOT make zamperla intamin 2.0 or something. Bottom line is zamperlas tallest coaster is somewhere around 150'. Fastest was 56 mph. You DONT hand them the keys to a 420', 120 mph coaster, with a PROTOTYPE train, and think it's a good idea. Heads should actually roll for this if it ends up down all year. Hell... they would already be rolling if I was in charge. Intamin should have been brought in to fix their own prototype. They have a better record now than when they were doing that crazy stuff like ttd, and ka. New gen intamin trains would have rode a LOT better, Intamin would have lined the track that was removed a LOT better, so there wouldn't be that jerkyness where the track was reinstalled to the top hat. And honestly, Intamin could have provided a better "rollback" with their use of the Indrivetec LSMs. Alas, we have the intrasys like Mack uses. Meh.

      The only comment among the thoosies that actually presents factual info mixed with the business side of it. For everyone to assume that Intamin would fix their 19 year mistake on Dragster, or that any of the other manufacturers (who also have never built anything this high) would have done better is pure ignorance.

    • @brianfoss571

      @@texasbbq3191 Yeah, Intamin was probably trying to sell CP on an airtime launch like Pantheon's when they really just wanted the bare minimum. Either way, if Zamperla is building the multi-launch coaster for CaWo, it won't be going nearly as fast. So it should run just fine.
