Ireland is definitely worth to come back, it is full of history and hidden gems💎 We found old churches and chapels converted to restaurants and wine bars, in small rural places 😀 Cork itself is worth exploring much more

My town, Bandon (Driochead Ná Banndan), the gateway to West Cork was a protestant town in the 16th and 17th centuries and a walled town, parts of which still exist, the original C of I church is now a museum, replaced in 19th century , the Catholic Church also 19th century was built outside the town wall as Catholics were forbidden entry to the town. The Duke of Devonshire, that one with the infamous wife, was the Estate owner and was responsible for having most of the Public Buildings constructed, the Courthouse, Town Hall, both still in use and the Bridewell (prison) now demolished and an apartment block on the site. He also had the bridge widened so two carriages could pass, still capable of taking 44 tonne trucks although too narrow for two to pass each other. We had an Earl of Bandon until the 1960's, the Title now a dead one as he only had daughters, the Family seat Barnard Castle is now a ruin, it was destroyed in the Civil War. The Family still own, run and farm much of the Estate although the farms are tenanted.

The canal you were talking about is the River Lee. It surrounds the city. Cork City was built on a bog. The British tried to burn down Cork City in 1920, the same year Terence MacSwiney, a playwright, author and the Lord Mayor of Cork City died from a hunger strike. Lots of history in Cork City.

I think Irish food is far nicer than American food. Its usually from farm to fork and not mass produced in factories on a large scale and pumped with chemicals and god knows what like the States. No offence but...

Cork is a city, not a town, having obtained it charter in 1185 CE. Its current population is approximately 225,000. 2. St. Finbarre’s is a cathedral, not just a church. It is the seat of the Church of Ireland diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross. (I used to walk past it every morning on my way to school). 3. The “canal” that you referred to on your way to St. Finbarre’s Cathedral is a branch of the River Lee, which splits into two branches and reunites again, forming an island within Cork City. The lowest parts of the city, including Oliver Plunkett Street, are very subject to flooding, which has been more frequent due to climate change. The name “Cork” is an Anglicization of the Irish “corcach”, meaning “marsh”.

That’s how we can figure it out in the US. We did see lots of different food while we were in Cork. Wish we would have had more time to try other things but we needed to get back to Cobh. Next time! You can enter St. Finbarr's for free, it doesn't cost you anything. Yes, it costs €8 if you wish to purchase a tour of the church, but there is no cost to enter and wander around the cathedral.

I enjoyed watching your video! I vacationed in Ireland back in 2014, so it brought back some very fond memories. My friend and I stayed in Dublin, and we took day trips to all four corners of the country. Our trip to Cork included a visit to Blarney Castle where I applied a thick protective layer of Chapstick to kiss the Blarney Stone - LOL! Some of our highlights included a tour of Powerscourt Gardens, The Giants' Causeway in Belfast, and The Quiet Man tour in Galway where I enjoyed the most delicious fish & chips lunch. I hope you are able to see many lovely cities on your cruise ship voyage. Enjoy the rest of your vacation and safe travels home!

They call Cork the San Francisco of Ireland because of the hills ! The empty plot behind you on the Elizabeth forth is where the new 6k seater events centre is supposed to be , still not built after 10 years due to money issues it’s a pity for the city as it would bring huge extra business !
Glad you enjoyed Cork. You definitely didn’t have enough time to see much or try some of our amazing food! O’Flynns sausages are a Cork staple, if you don’t like ketchup or mustard on your sausage, then why did you get it on there? Why tell them put it on and then complain about it! 🤦♀️ Also, more for other visitors watching your video- you do NOT have to cross the road and go up the steps when you leave the train station. When you go out of the train station and up the ramp, just continue on that road, turn left at the crossroads (where you saw the church and dentist office) and you’ll find your way to the city centre. Alternatively, keep walking down that road (McCurtin street) and then turn left onto Bridge street and over Patrick’s bridge, onto Patrick’s street. 😎

Everyone is very passionate about this and we love that! As for St Finbarrs- we wish we would have had time to go inside. For some reason we thought it was closed and you had to pay to get in. the spanish weren't invaders they were allies and the fort wasn't to defend the city it was to keep it under foreign/british rule.At least thats they we normally view that history in ireland

Before Irish independence, Cobh was called Queenstown; probably best known as the last port of call for Titanic before she set course for New York.
