Just picked up a 2023 for 6k OTD. Was looking at them a few years ago but the price didn’t make sense at the time. Super excited to ride it but it’s 30 degrees here in my neck of the woods of Ohio.
Stealth mode put me face to face with a rattlesnake yesterday. Rounding a bend on the mt bike, about a six foot diamondback 🪱was stretched out across the trail. Too close to stop. A bunny hop and pedal hard. 🚲 The beast never moved. 🍀 I was looking for him today but long gone.
My 2022 Freeride has 97hrs of maintenance free fun. I have a second battery too so range really isn’t an issue if I can circle back to the car for a quick swap
1800 miles means it fun! The current owner of an electric motion Escape XR but I'm really looking at the 2025 free ride for a little bit more of a Moto Style.
I need to ride an EM Escape XR! I also am excited to try a new Freeride as the styling looks so good! Not sure it will be that much different from the current Freeride E-XC as it still weighs the same (about 245 lbs) and has similar power. That will be a big difference for you coming off an Escape and onto a Freeride...the extra 50~60 lbs of weight. Have you ridden a Varg? Unique bike that is full moto capable and can be putted around in the woods...and it has reverse! th-cam.com/video/th3DTDt9b6k/w-d-xo.html
I posted in a surron group on fb about a freeride exc vs a surron ultrabee and everybody was hating on the freeride but I still keep leaning towards the Ktm even so.
KTM is a long time OEM with lots of off road motorcycle development and manufacturing capability and experience and a good dealer network for support. The KTM Freeride is also built much more sturdy (again KTM is an experience off road OEM and has design and durability standards that are high). I have a Sur Ron Lightbee and have ridden an Ultra Bee a few times. The Ultra Bee Sur Ron is much better than the Lightbee! The Ultrabee is very fun and lighter in weight - if that is important to you and the lack of dealer support is not an issue the Ultrabee is a good choice.
@@mxengineer1 appreciate the reply, still leaning Ktm just for little backyard shenanigans. I just feel it’s a better quality of bike. Keeping my eyes peeled for one.
@@jcmoney4125I’ve been between them also, going to see how the 2025 looks when released. Some serious doubt in my mind with the Surron even the ultra bee, from what I’ve seen suspension and brakes are both cheap garbage compared to the ktm 😅
The Freeride and Varg are very different electric dirt bike riding experience. The Freeride is more like a cross between a trials bike and off road trail bike - very easy to ride and friendly with the design and quality expectation of a long time major motorcycle OEM (KTM). The Varg is a maximum performance racing electric motocross bike that targets current internal combustion engine bikes yet it is very friendly when dialed back to 10hp. Stark is a start up company that has not been around and does not have the reliability history of a long time motorcycle OEM. I liked my Alta EXR a lot and that company simply vanished 3 months after I purchased the bike. I hope Stark stays around!

I love your riding area and have enjoyed your side by side reviews!
Thank you!

Great reaction! There are some drawbacks to stealth riding when it comes to surprising animals on the trail!
Less experienced riders would have skidded to a stop and gave the snake more options!

Stealth and low maintenance are a fun part of the electric powertrain experience.

Free ride = Stealth ride 🎯 indoor motocross coming soon 🍀
We got a lot of great fall riding before the indoors!
Would you provide some information on your street legal kit?
The lights came on the bike including a brake light switch, Hi/Lo beam, horn, and DOT approved tires (no turn signals)
@@mxengineer1how difficult was it to register and insure in Ohio? Or did you go the dirt legal route?
Surprised you like it more then the stark...

Did you pull it down 33 yesterday on a hitch hauler with a Subaru?
I have a Honda Odyssey but cool that someone else has a Freeride E-XC!
Haha that was probably me! I have a silver Subaru forester

Does battery need 240 volt to charge ?
Yes.
looks like the ticket the more the years go by......the xr200 is getting heavy......lol
Freeride is about 245 lbs so heavier than the XR200 but does not feel heavy in motion!
