My Grandparents lived thru the depression. Off season hunting was enforced by game wardens. Grandpa had 4 kids & Mom in-law to feed. He caught phesants. Saw warden coming & put birds in his pants. Spoke to warden awhile. As he left he looked down & saw feathers sticking out his zipper.😅
Some game wardens, if they know a family is in need and that is why the person is hunting out of season, usually they will overlook the offense as long as they do not make it a habit and overdue it! Also, they will provide that family with meat from fresh roadkill deer after it has been taken to a butcher. But you will get a warden every now and then with a bug up their rear end, who won't care that a family is in need, "breaking the law is breaking the law!" and cite them for anything and everything he can!
It was so wonderful to see you gave the chickens some of the left overs from the cabbage. Chickens really do good giving when they have greens. When I raised chickens they were free range and enjoyed all the greens they liked and the yolk of the eggs were golden and so yummy.
Super-Duper great video. I never knew how the cabbage became sauerkraut......Matter of fact, in my 81 years, I have never had any!! It sounds great. Love seeing you all work as a team.............Bev in Maine (yes, we have snow on the ground......gonna get 3-5" more starting a little later.)
I may not comment most of the time, but you can rest assured, that I watch every video……after all, gotta keep an eye on your babies……Hugs, Bev in Maine
Need to put asphalt profile in your traffic areas, it will never be muddy ever again. it is cheap to do. you won't know yourself having no mud. your machinery will also last longer.
We have a limerick road that was a mess after every rain. The county put down asphalt milling from old roads they tore up. I like it, not as messy, but there's some serious chemicals in that stuff.
It’s better than dirt but doesn’t stay in place as well as asphalt. But might be ok on the flat. We live on a hillside and the road surfaces are pretty fussy.
Wish you had truckloads and truckloads of sawdust from the trees blown down here in Georgia when Helene came through. I’m sure it probably would not be cost effective, but the bazillion of tons of sawdust or shavings from grinding all the fallen trees is unbelievable!!!
It never gets old watching your video’s, Andrew. With the farm you never get done! So much to take care of. I wonder how your dad did it before you boys got old enough to help? Anyway, it nice to see what is going on at the farm! Hope you get the deer that is eating your crops! They must be good eating after dining on your corn!😊Happy hunting!😊
I have 30 yrs experience laying electrical wire in duct. Always good to seal the duct to keep moisture out even it’s ‘direct bury’ cable. Also a good idea no rocks directly on top of or below if possible. This was a Super video! Always like to see the “every day” goings on. 👍👍👍👍👍
That PVC looked like white PVC used to water lines, lol. PVC conduit is gray. My husband is master electrician with 55 years of experience. I would have forgone the rocks too. Not a good idea at all but it’s their farm and their rules. And I’m sure not their first or last quick fix. Hopefully once the season is over they’ll take care to make the repair much more stable.
I enjoy Sauerkraut but have never made it. My late Mother grew up as a small girl on two adjoining Western PA (Crawford County) farms in the Nineteen-teens and early Nineteen-twenties. Guess her German immigrant American Great Grandfather was a big influence on the family's food choices and that is why I had Sauerkraut sometimes as a girl growing up in Los Angeles.
I grew up in RockSprings, Wyoming. My parents would keep them in our basement...I was so excited, every spring. Baby chicks, turkeys, and piglets...in April.
I love love love love love me some sauerkraut. Hey how far away are you from Pittsburgh?😊😊 Those babies are all getting so cute and growing so quick even Callie. Your babies make my day so Grandma misses her grandchildren too thank you for making my day every time a video pops up
Wow, 6 weeks for the kraut? I make mine for 25 days, total. Folks around here love it. They never had fresh, uncooked kraut. It doesn't make well here in Florida unless you know how to do it. Good video! I love kraut day almost as much as horseradish day. 😭🤣
When the knife is cutting unwashed cabbage there's no concern with bacteria cutting into the fresh cabbage? Maybe it's negligible and gets killed off in the fermenting process. I like to clean all my vegetables first before I cut into anything. Maybe I'm overdoing it . What do you guys think?
Nothing better than a kettle of deer vegetable soup made from cooking the bones off. Good luck. During hunting season Dad carried his shotgun for his 2 rabbits and 2 pheasants per day limit on the back of the mule drawn wagon hand picking corn. He skinned, butchered the game. Mom soaked them in a salt water night bath in the refrigerator. Lunch or supper for the them, brother Dave and me. Occasionally an uncle or family friend from the city would hunt. All from 42 acres in the '40s, we didn't see it as crop damage but a product of the land.
Good day Andrew, while you're talking breakfast im eating mine while watching this, funny how im eating - Bacon, Egg, and Potato Breakfast Skillet, And you have all you need on the farm, Your own spuds, Your own eggs, May need to get bacon as i have not seen pigs on the farm. smiles
If you learned hunting as a very little boy, Andrew, I suspect that means that Callie and the twins will be going with you pretty soon and learning the ropes!
I had that problem with my pekinese dog. He was so excited about the baby birds. I thought it was cute. We all went for a walk in the woods and came back to NO babies. As soon as they stuck their head out of the pen. He grab them and pulled them up. 💔
Love the sauerkraut videos SO MUCH!! Thank you for sharing it!

We've thought about it!

That conduit show be buried 24" deep in a sand bed. And the conduit glued together.
@@miker648all states are different in codes. Az is only 18 inches, lol…..

PVC? We're used to seeing "conduit" in metal form here in Ohio!
The baby chickens are so cute. Sauerkraut is delicious. Goes great with pork & chicken. Plus the juice from sauerkraut is very nutritious.
You should put the egg laying chickens in a green house for the winter also.
ANDREW YOU ROCK SO KEEP IT UP. THANKS.
I love watching all you guys and gals. Growing food for yourselves, and the folks yall sell to.Heck of an operation. Chuck C from Arkansas.
Callie would love those little chicks 🐥

Like the little chickens❤️. And am amazed the animals eat so many vegetables!
Waving a hand from texas
Back in the day, we called it "stompin' the cabbage." It was a good kid job. Took awhile to get it stomped adequately!
I would not complain about seeing some hunting clips in the videos.
Just found you guys and I am in Wayne County PA! It's nice to find a channel near me! We have snow!!!😁😁😁
Where you placed the Boulder's is where the next short will be as the weight of equipment will press them down and pinch the cable! Bet me 😁
We had plenty of slack, but I appreciate it! 😄
Just looked it up! You can pickle cabbage cores. Most recipies said to shred or slice cores.
😃😋
I love love love love love me some sauerkraut. Hey how far away are you from Pittsburgh?😊😊 Those babies are all getting so cute and growing so quick even Callie. Your babies make my day so Grandma misses her grandchildren too thank you for making my day every time a video pops up
Hard to believe you don't have a cabbage shredder with a motor. lol
Love how you boys all have hoods up but PopPop is just wearing a cap.
i'm all about that Crout, my momma's family grew up on it..
Great to hear your getting ready to get Granny some venison for her chipped venison.
Venison vegetable soup, cooking off the bones.

We put it on the pipe. All good lol

8:54 my cat once killed a squirrel just to use its tail as a toy
I was wondering when y’all were going to make sauerkraut !! 😀
Pietie needs to move the stones he harvested and put them in the real muddy slushy places
16:36 nothing like some speed beef, in the freezer, 😊
Takes my sauerkraut 28 days but I only do about 30 to 50lbs. so good!
Id like to see some of the deer yall get
Please put some hay in the laying boxes for the chickens, so there butts don’t get cold LOL! ❤️🙏
Is that the excavator that Joel was using for the hay barn or did I miss something?
Need to attach a motor and pully and remove the crank. Just keep feeding the machine
We watch every video you make
It's a windy night on the farm tonight 😊
If you learned hunting as a very little boy, Andrew, I suspect that means that Callie and the twins will be going with you pretty soon and learning the ropes!
In my corner of Canada it has been below freezing for 3 weeks now... ~ulrich
Does the cabbage change the taste of eggs? Venison is easy to digest. If difficulty with digesting other meat.
GOOD JOB!
