All the complaints about the V6 no power transmission sucks. Now we have a 4 banger with better power, torque and gas mileage and a transmission that knows what gear it is in!
It only comes at the cost of a very complex engine set up that only engineers can fix.Thank you toyota, for overcomplicating, something that did not need to get complex
@@brentc2117 nah, they have this form of engine in other markets for ages. extremely reliable even with the turbo. turbos are not that complex. the hybrid variant? Time will tell, but for Americans (where there are Toyota certified mechanics in every city) its perfectly reasonable
I beg to differ, just look at the new V6 twin turbo in the new Tundra = problems, the eco tech in the new Ford F-150 and Bronco = problems. This Turbo 4 is going to be a headache from the start. At least 3rd gen and earlier owners can still tinker under the hood. Hard to tell where an owner would even start with all the plumbing and wiring nightmare under the hood of the new 4 banger. Can an owner even change the oil or spark plugs, top up the coolant or add to the washer fluid? It’s a great looking truck but pop the hood and the dream is over.
A huge thing I do not like about the truck is that when you take it off roading, you have to go through 7 different menu options to shut off. Every single driver assist park assist lane, keep assist way too many sensors for a pickup truck. That's supposed to be "simple" it would be nice if there was one button to just shut off all driver assistance technologies while you off-road.
And if you turn off the truck, you have to do the same stuff all over again, it's as if Toyota doesn't trust people offroading their vehicles? No, thank you. I will stick to my much more simple Chevy. Trail boss custom, no turbocharging required. Just a big old V8 pushin me down the road. And honestly, it's not that bad on gas. I can easily get 20 highway out of the truck.
No you don’t… do you own one? Once you turn that stuff off, it stays off. Yes, even if you shut off the truck and restart it. Folks need to chill on watching car reviews and just blindly believing everything they hear those folks say. There’s a ton of BS floating around the internet about these trucks and it seems no one cares to think for themselves. I had a gen 3 taco too, and the new one is every bit as “simple” as that truck was, just better.
It looks great on paper, but what I don't like about the new Tacoma. Is that the rear seats have gotten smaller? Which is a very poor decision. If you actually plan on putting people back there for road trips, it no longer has the V6 engine so if you want to go off roading, you have to take either a turbocharged 4 cylinder. Off roading or a turbocharged 4 cylinder with a hybrid system attached to it. That is not ideal for wading through water and if that system breaks down on you while you're in the woods. Good luck, trying to fix it. You will need a team of Toyota. Engineers to fix it, along with millions of dollars of equipment Sorry, toyota, but I think this over hybrid ification of things is getting a bit obnoxious
2025 models are starting to hit dealerships now, but don't expect any major changes, it was an all new design for 2024 and Toyota is rather slow in upgrade or doing mid-cycle facelifts. Hopefully their build quality has improved at least.
@@buddacafe about $47,000 with cloth seats for TRD Off-Road. $8k more if you want the options package that doesn't have cloth seats. Most dealers are discounting $3,500 off MSRP.

Overall, they took a simple, reliable truck and they just jammed it with technology. I feel that the entire purpose of the Toyota Tacoma mid-size pickup truck is to have a reliable off-road machine. I know people who have the V6, and they last. It's well over 300000 miles. I honestly don't see this 4 cylinder. Lasting that long due to it being turbocharged. I mean, who knows? They might last 300000 miles, but putting a Turbo on anything dramatically increases the complexity of the engineering of the vehicle. It's not for me. And on top of that, they made the interior smaller what sense does that make people when they buy a 4 door vehicle, expect to be able to use those extra 2 doors? Why would they make it smaller? Now? It's just a dog bench. It's okay to put a couple of 2-year-olds back there, but beyond that. They took away the practicality of having four doors....
It's also just ridiculous how much this segment has gone up in price. $36k minimum for 4wd with the 4 door, before dealer markups and other fees. This used to be a barebones reliable truck. This TRD offroad with the automatic is $45k, and the top trims are 65k - laughable for what used to be an actual economy truck.
The interior is larger and more comfortable in the new taco… wtf are you people just bots, or what? It’s just as tight in the back as the old truck, as it’s always been in the Tacoma. It’s perfectly fine for anyone around 6’ tall. These aren’t luxury trucks man… they’re Tacomas. If you need to transport your family, buy a minivan and stfu.
Those rear seat bottoms that fold up are a terrible idea. How can you lay flat tool boxes and other items? The previous generation is much better - the seat bottoms fold forward and there's a wide, relatively flat surface to stack things.
I like the truck but 4 banger?? Should be a v6, plus if this is really a 2025. Why did you put 2 yr old tires on a 2025 truck ? (Yes not that old but it I'm buying a 2025, I want 2025 parts) (just saying)
Love the look of the truck but Toyota lost me at turbo 4 banger! I’ll keep my third gen, reliable V6 that has more then enough capabilities for me. And that new Tacoma price $$$$, Toyota has got to be kidding🤯

Think y'all are dead wrong on the 4 cyl. Toyota has been making 4 cyl turbo Hiluxes in other markets for decades, and they are extremely good / reliable cars. That being said... 36k minimum for a 4 door . lol
That's what I've been thinking. People who say they test drove the new gen and still said they have less power than old V6 is gotta be talking outta their ass. Every comparison/drag race between the old V6 and the new 4 cylinder turbo has the old V6 eating exhaust. Toyota also has been doing small turbo engines for ages. If there's one company that got it down, it's them. There are a hundred legitimate flaws in the new Tacoma, such as QC issue, inconsistent build quality, inflated price tag, and questionable transmission, just to name a few. But the majority of the Tacoma hate bandwagon that came out this year is straight-up ridiculous. Bunch of haters hating on non-issues if you ask me.
This grossly overpriced truck is obviously gorgeous aesthetically, but it still only has a tiny little four banger motor! I don't care how much you beef up the transmission, turbocharge it or hybridize it, it's a bait and switch scam! I'll take my V6 2017 TRD off-road Tacoma any day! 👎
😂 drive one man… just try it. A 2.4L four cylinder is plenty big enough to power a truck like this. It’s not even a new motor. The original tacos had 4 cylinder motors in them btw.
