    I know they are not the "Best" pedals on the market but I only use Boss and they have worked with every amp I have played with.

      Ya know when I started playing guitar, boutique pedals were a fringe thing in plain enclosures with sharpie markings. Boss was considered all mass produced and cookie cutter. I am thrilled that nowadays they get the respect they deserve as a true pioneer company in the guitar effects world. Boss, EHX, and others paved the way and still make good quality, good sounding pedals that anyone should be proud to play

    Great concept for a series! Really enjoyed the no frills way you demoed everything - Mr. Black a pleasant surprise! Almost a 'Univibe . . . vibe'. Great playing - thanks for what you're doing! I am currently playing with 2 distinct pedal combo ideas using some vintage MXR's alongside current boutiquey ones. Essentially one is more of a Bill Frisell clean 'dimble' chain built around the Effectrode Blackbird which is great for Strat, and the other is a Brit / Beatlish/ chimey chain built around the Victory V4 'Copper' pedal which is nice for my Casino / Les Paul. Both these have tubes in them, so handy for DI studio work at a pinch.

    Hey Jack, big fan of your demo videos. Those pedals do sound great with the Princeton. I’ll probably be trying some of them out on my Princeton 12” Canabis Rex loaded amp. I also have an old 1970’s Twin Reverb silver face (re-tubbed and re-biased) so it sounds great on its own but have always had a hard time finding pedals that work well with it due to its clean glassy sound these amps are known for. So yes, I’d love to see you do a pedal demo on a silverface twin - perhaps on a 68 twin reissue that are readily available as that would probably be as close to the 70’s version as you could get.

  • @Lowtech14

    I have a Princeton Reverb. And a Nano (not +!) pb. Dead solid simple: Boss TU3 tuner, which I use to power a Boss SD-1 (aka the yellow one), and then a Fulltone (RIP) OCD 1.4. I Velcro the oem rev/vib ftsw to the left side of the board for onboard reverb and tremolo. I play an Esquire guitar, so I use position 1 (straight to output jack- no tone control) for boost/lead, and position 2 for rhythm, w tone at about 8. By stacking the two drives I can get gnarly :)

  • @dahliafiend
    @dahliafiend 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very interesting. I finally got a Princeton (65 reissue) and am very happy with it. Although at home I've found I'm around 2 to 3 with the volume on channel 1 so my gain tones at home are all pedals. At first I had my old Boss SD-1 and the exact Fuzz you have here (Dunlop Band of Gypsies.) I wasn't happy with the SD-1, it colored the tone too much in a way II didn't like so I got a JHS Morning Glory. Problem solved BUT still needed something for distortion-heavier gain, lead tones. At first I used a Rat which was ok but not quite what I wanted. I ended up getting a Fullltone OCD V1 and along with the Morning Glory am now totally set. The OCD really brings out the lower midrange that I was missing from the Princeton at the lower home volumes at least. Also I got a JHS Tone Bender and sold the Dunlop fuzz. That was the final piece of the puzzle for me. Much more aggressive and suited to my style than the classic Fuzzface. I love that thing,. With the OCD, Morning Glory and JHS Bender all going I have pretty much guaranteed singing, feedback drenched lead without going above 3 on my amp!
    In truth the OCD could probably cover any gaps the Morning Glory fills but I plan to keep both Especially until I get my Les Paul Tribute setup with 50's wiring so I can experiment with the volume knobs more as I do more now already on my Strat. My other setup is a Strymon Iridium for recording which is a different challenge.
    What I'd like to see next is your board for a Fender Bassman. That's an amp whose clean tone I love but I wouldn't be able to crank very often so I'm curious to know what overdrive setup you'd use. That or a Marshall Studio Vintage are my next amp purchases, in the distant $$$ future for now. That or possible a silverface Vibrolux which at home of course I wouldn't be able to crank though live I would and might just use an OCD though I really am leaning towards the Marshall since the Princeton has satisfied my Fender clean, reverb, vibrato needs. I also use a Strymon Flint sometimes to get different Tremelo than the Princeton as well as the 80's hall reverb for more ethereal tones. All in all a great amp although when I get into a band situation I'm wondering how things will change with the headroom. When I've brought it up to five or six it's started to break up quite a bit so I definitely will be adjusting my pedals then or getting something bigger. Definitely keeping the Princeton either way.

    Thankyou jack,always good to have purchases justified and pedal order as well.i have the 68 custom and run pretty much the same but for the fuzz. A blues breaker copy( mooer) into a TS9 ,steel singer( nux) both relatively low gain mid vol,mud tone and an American sound joyo then delay and reverb. My 68 reverb is sadly lacking,tremelo is good but rarely have need to use it.american sound is there as I often run out to different amps without the tonal choices of the Princeton. I have duplicated this board with various manufacturers pedals but agree stacking works really well with some pedals but have had a few that won't coexist. Look forward to next installment.

    Hey, Jack! I use the 65 Princeton Reverb as my main amp. You’ve inspired me to buy a Wampler Belle pedal, but I find it lacks volume and headroom. Is that normal? I have to use to with my Ikon Archer on to get loud enough. Do you there is something wrong with the pedal, or it’s meant to be paired with other pedals? It doesn’t work well at all as clean boost, for example. I’d like to receive your advice before returning it, because I’ve dialed some awesome overdriven tones with the Belle paired with an Ikon Archer and a Boss BP-1 Waza.
