In reply to the viewer who thought this is too expensive and then apologised for thier negative comments: for some reason you deleted your comment before I could complete my reply. I think it deserved a reply anyway so here you go
    -------------
There is nothing negative about your comments as far as I am concerned. I did mention towards the end of the video that I beleive this product is aimed at a particular market. There are those who will rightfully say that their cheaper microscope works just as well and this is too expensive. There are others who will buy this microscope and if they do I am sure they will love it, simply because that is my personal reaction to it. There is another school of thought that says you should forget digital microscopes altogether and buy an optical one. None of these people are wrong or right, though those who say you need an optical microscope do have a particular argument to support that view, it's more that when people buy something and find it suits their requirements then they see no need to change to something else, especially when the something else costs more money. Having been (lucky?) enough to own three or four other USB/Digital microscopes and also a trinocular optical microscope I can say with confidence out of the digital microscopes I have owned this is undoubtably my favourite so far. But that does not mean the other ones were bad products either.

Thanks for this review. I was particularly impressed so I’ve just ordered one which will be shipped to me in Australia. Thanks for the recommendation. I wouldn’t have bought it only for your tick of approval. Cheers

Great review. I'm definitely considering this scope. I have been looking at digital microscopes for a long time now. Your idea of mounting it above the bench is something I hadn't even considered, but will now be looking into a way of incorporating it into my bench setup. I'm in the UK so i hope it comes with the appropriate mains adapters otherwise I'll just chop the ends off and put an appropriate plug on!

I am more curious how the Auto Focus handles the movement of the soldering iron under the microscope. Does it stay focused or does it start to hunt.

I've kept this on my bench so I am sure we will find out on upcoming videos

It looks really nice. I should get one but my 8X stamp magnifier clipped to a helping-hands stand works well. It gives a roughly 25mm working distance but I've done tens of thousands of repairs over ~30 years. I like to be closer to my electronics as it gives a more personal connected touch to the work rather than being distant and not as friendly. The board can sense your distance from it and knows you don't like it so it'll refuse to cooperate when you try to fix it. Whereas all my boards are very close to me when I'm working on it so they know I like it ;-)

Can this be mounted upside down? Meaning onto a shelf and then it is hanging down?

      yes

Looks better than my existing one on which I find the constant refocusing a pain. seriously considering it once on UK Amazon. Regarding mounting alternate methods, you could also replace the tube that clamps to the desk at any length you want and any type of clamp you like. Though not too long as wobbles will get worse.

That's something i would need but a bit too expansive for me atm gonna save up for one, i got an andonstar with a cheap microphone arm right now and if i do something on my desk the microscope shakes really badly

Nice review, any idea what CCD this microscope uses? What it's true resolution?

You would think that Tomlov would provide either adapters from US to UK or have the plugs have the correct configuration! Did you look at the Tomlov DM 501 Pro? It might be a 2K DM. Thank you also does the kit you have come with a warranty?

For all the little niggles it is still a nice piece of kit that I will just keep dreaming about having on my small bench (I am reasonably amateur)😊😊

Does this camera have a “CE” or “CCC” mark? And does the delivery contain a certificate of conformity? So that it can be officially imported into the EU?

Yes, I believe this kit will be qualified to be imported into the EU.

So, every time you move, you have to wait for it to auto focus, even though the distance to the lens doesn't change!?

    • @LearnElectronicsRepair
      @LearnElectronicsRepair  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It is autofocusing because the distance is changing as I'm looking at a motherboard which has components that are flat to the PCB and others such as expansion slots which are not. Personally I found that less hassle than having to refocus manually for example to look at a PCI slot but I guess that is down to personal preference

@@LearnElectronicsRepair ummm, yeah havig to wait 1-2 seconds is a deal breaker and will literally kill anyone using it lol (sarcasm if it wasn't obvious ;-)

That lists for nearly $400 in the US. A person can get proper binocular electronics microscope on a swing arm with video out for half the price.
And they need to put a piece of white linen in front of the ring light.
Without diffusion that light is all we see

I see the price at $319 at the Tomlov website and then you also have the discount code. I do have a 'proper' binocular (actually mine is trinocular) microscope with 1080p camera mounted on a double boom stand, it is an amscope clone and the price is about €600. The stand itself is €235. Regards the ring light, it's adjustable and there is another ring of LEDs around the lens itself. I played around with that a lot on the previous video for the non auto focus version of this microscope TM4K. The link to that review is in the video description but you can also click it here th-cam.com/video/6S4jpCRXcTk/w-d-xo.html this will show you what lighting effects you can achieve with the supplied ring mount.
Regards binocular vs digital microscopes, personally I find the optical microscope better for soldering as you have stereo vision, and the digital microscope better for inspection and video recording purposes, plus you can't angle the optical microscope horizontally like this one and still be able to look down it. So I would say 'horses for courses' here.

Unbelievable! They can't even get the plugs right after so long being in business making these microscopes! One of the reviews:
    Pure Junk!
I have a digital microscope from 10 years ago with 4in screen. So I decided to upgrade to this 4k 10in screen. Turns out it’s pure junk my old microscope works 1000000 times better. Also this scope has LED light directly inside the lense so when working with circuit boards that are covered with clear coat it gives reflection. I do not recommend this trash
Like other tones of junk from China cluttering other countries - we should not buy and force them to do proper QC like Apple do!
Get an angled HDMI adapter to solve the catching HDMI cable at the back.
