I completely agree with Pat on teleporting ruining the Persona games. During the pandemic I had the extra time so I tried playing 3 through 5 without using the teleport feature and it changes the games so much. You start stopping to talk to NPCs, you notice the changes in the environment as the calendar progresses (in P3 it's really noticeable with how the Apathy syndrome victims increase in number leading up to each full moon) and in general just start to feel a greater sense of charm from these games. Teleporting really makes you miss out on a lot of what makes each Persona location special imo.
Excuse me if I'm wrong, but I feel like Pat was acting as if the game was making him teleport all the time. I didn't have this problem in Metaphor because when I wanted to walk around, I just did it, like you did in Persona. So I don't understand his complaint from that perspective.

I think its also a huge boon that you don't have to spend time with people to fill their friendship meter to advance their link. The only Follower story I'm most lukewarm about at this point is Hulkenburg, but even that has moments that I think are quite nice.
I feel fine with the victory lap at the end of Metaphor. In Persona games that runback is really bittersweet because the MC is basically saying goodbye to all the people they hung out with, for one reason or another. In Metaphor conversations in that segment feel like, "Oh hey great job being our king. You doing good? Great! Thanks again for [Insert Rank 8 Bond Dialogue Here]. Well see you tomorrow!" In my opinion the moment didn't feel final or intense enough to warrant voiced dialogue.
20:45 lol he absolutely IS a Fire Emblem protagonist XD. But yeah speaking of how awesome Heismay is the archetype system just shatters around him. Talk about a dodge tank holy moly. Its to the point im fighting challenge bosses and when they hit him I say "good for you." And mean it
Seeing some memes about people not completing the "traversal distance" and "ask Gallica x times" achievements made me running around town a lot, or checking bonds using Gallica instead of the main menu, and I completed both acievements around dungeon 4. Fast traveling everywhere makes you miss out on a lot, would *highly* recommend for anyone starting up to check around town a lot. There's little narrative arcs happening across the game's towns that add lots of flavor. NPCs across the world generaly update after every large/medium story event. Like the kid who's been taught to be racist in Grand Trad that slowly realizes that it's wrong. The executioner who's questioning his life choices in a system that is stacked against him. The kid whose mom dies early on, and who's too young to understand. 2 NPCs will talk to each other the whole game, until one basically gets killed in a riot, and the other guy doesn't know what to do now that his friend is gone. Lots of npcs soften to you as the game goes on; some will lean in and whisper "hey, just know that I support what you're doing, even if I can't say it in public". It's great.
I really loved the guy that’s piss drunk at night outside the other restaurant in Gran Trad, who starts drinking because he lost the mage academy. Then he dies during the final arc and people start rifling through his pockets, and get pissed that he’s broke! He actually has a friend in the tavern in Alterbury that mentions him. Also big shoutout to Martira and Et Ria, who despite the world ending, are completely calm because they believe in you wholeheartedly!
Pat and Woolie never experienced a Persona game where you just want to sleep through your days cause they never finished Royal, where you spend a majority of the 3rd sem playing darts or going to the jazz club
Oh my god you're totally right, didn't Pat give up his "Royal playthrough" before even finishing the base game? I had completely forgotten, I doubt Woolie's touched the game since 2016 either
I’m still convinced there was suppose to be one extra mini dungeon in P5R and they just didn’t have time to include it. It’s so weird how both bloated and rushed that 3rd semester felt
8:34 nope I agree. There’s some dope songs in Metaphor but a lot of them don’t stand out to me compared to other JRPG fantasy genre songs. P3-5 have such unique identities with their music, I wouldn’t be able to confuse them with anything else. While besides the battle theme and the Academia theme, for me a lot of tracks just sound like what you’d expect from a fantasy game. Where I’ll combat woolie on that is even if Persona has filler music, I remember those songs. And while there’s similarities in all three games, they have their own over arcing music style. Hip hop/pop for 3, pop/rock for P4, multiple forms of Jazz particularly acid jazz for P5. So it’s not just that the Persona music is more pop, it stands out for having less peers to blend in with.
Very much agreed. Metaphor has some very standout tracks, but like 99% of the OST is generic, forgettable fantasy tripe you could hear in literally any other game.
1000% this. OST is good, but just "good" isn't what I need from my guy Meguro. Meanwhile Kozuka is over here crapping out straight masterpieces even for free update demons. SMTV Vengeance's soundtrack is one of the best I've heard in years, even surpassing FF7 Rebirth (which I'm a massive fan of too). Profound sadness that it didn't get a nod in The Geoff A(d)wards.
Yeah, at the end of the day while Metaphor is fantastic the only two songs I'm really gonna remember from it are the standard battle theme and the Akademeia theme.
Stbh. I’ll still catch myself jamming out to either the advantage battle theme, disadvantage battle theme, archetype acquiring song, or *especially* the royal palace theme. I actually grew out of the academia song because it’s so loud and takes me out of the dialogue
The lack of voice acting for scenes felt especially jarring because I beat P3R RIGHT before playing Metaphor. P3R making nearly EVERYTHING voiced spoiled me on how much I prefer it. So to go from that to the newer game (yes I know it was being developed for a long time so it might’ve been before P3R) where we’re back to only beginning and ending social link cutscenes being voiced was a bummer. I played P3 original in the past, but after playing P3R, I noticed having those characters audible made my attachment to them much stronger than when I played P3Fes. So I hope in the future we keep the trend of voicing every cutscene we can
I personally don't mind non-voiced dialogue, I never really had as much attachment to that idea that everything should be voiced. Especially in RPGs. For something like P3R it felt more like an expense they didn't mind doing, since it's a remake, and doesn't require as much work as some other things. In fact, I appreciate layers of abstraction in general, but that's a bit of a broader subject.
20:51 he’s not that naive. And he’s not that silly either. Strohl is naive before we meet him, if anything, but we didn’t see him then so it doesn’t even matter. In fact, on that note, I take exception with their take on Yosuke in P4 too. I think they forget a lot of the calls made by the P4 group were called by him. He’s a source of levity and comedy, but Yosuke isn’t an idiot. But it’s not a big deal, it’s not like misinterpreting the arc/characterization of Kanji or Naoto haha…ha…Man that was a rough podcast…
I bet you Pat stands even harder by his horrific misinterpretations of the P4 cast now. Hell he'd probably bring up "media literacy" to justify himself.
I find the Metaphor cast to be the best to be honest. I don't know what happened to cause it, but Hashino finally dropped a lot of the worst bits of humor from the 4/5 side of the cast and didn't resort to making anyone in the Metaphor group a token dumbass either. That just left everything else I like about Persona's party members, and this group is all the better for it. I also think Louis is the best main villain they've ever had. I fully expected him to get offed so Forden could take center stage, but NOPE. Louis starts and stays the main point of contention. Not gonna comment much on the soundtrack, since that's far too taste dependent. I just needed to enjoy it while playing, and I did. As for fast travel ruining immersion, that's been an argument from some people since fast travel existed. I don't want it to go away, because some games really do need it, but I admit as long as players have the option to skip out on waiting time they will take it. That can cause them to lose out on immersion. When it comes to the persona games, I use fast travel but still feel immersed in the settings they all take part it. It all coms down to how you vibe.
I do feel that the new cast is much stronger than the prior cast of P5 and possibly even a majority of the P3 cast even. The direct way in which the crew confronts the problems of this world is such a refreshing change after the themes of P5 and 4 being fighting the internal strawmen of the antagonists via their shadows, and feels as though you make real changes. Pats right about the music being subjective to taste though. I think this is on the higher end for Persona games though I think SMTV-Vengeance had some more bangers overall.
I still think P4 has the best cast, by virtue of it letting you actually spend time with as friends would. I also like that they're flawed, makes them a lot more believable.
Chie mooching off of Yosuke, Rise constantly clowning on Kanji, Yukiko laughing at the worst moments Yosuke's constant fear of being bum rushed by Kanji, they're all great
Absolutely agree, it feels like they all have friendships outside of the MC. Like you're a pivotable part of the group, but even when you aren't around, Yukiko and Chie spend time together, Teddie lives with Yosuke, Rise and Kanji spend time together due to their respective families businesses, etc
Yeah i dont really feel much at all for the cast in Metaphor, but I loved P4 cast and their social links, especially Nanako + Dojima. Hulkenburg eats food and acts like a typical knight. Strohl is nice, averagely competent at everything and hates bad things. Heismay is the most interesting to me because of his backstory. Junah starts of annoying and kind of becomes endearing later? Basilio far and away the best because he has a character arc. Eupha is cute as hell and has some funny lines but she is just the weird foreigner trope with not much else going on
teleportation is purely a streaming issue, streamers are trying to get to the end of the game as quick as they can to move onto the next thing, where as I'm playing the game normally since I'm not getting paid to, I was always walking through the crowds looking for new dialogue from npcs or collectible bugs in new areas whenever i could, where as naturally pats chats gonna tell him exactly where everything is so the need to explore is gone within the first day or two.
honestly me using a fast travel option in games entirely depends on the loading screen for it being fun and how fun the traversal itself is in the game I barely use fast travel in games like Spiderman and RDR2, but when I do I enjoy the loading screens showing the character still physically traveling the environment or chilling on a train instant travel like in Elden Ring kinda takes me out of things, even if it makes sense in-universe
Ok tbh i teleported a lot because i just get into the flow and like to tick off all my tasks real quick and efficiently. But for big setpiece moments i would usually talk to npcs. During a mission period? No
I really felt what Pat was talking about with the lack of voice acting towards the tail end of the game. If Atlas ever gives this game another go, I'd love to play this again with more scenes fully voiced.
The characters are great, but I will say that Metaphor's party is drama free. MINOR SPOILERS: Like you would think Heismay was going to go through a whole arc with his prejudice against the paripus, but it's wrapped up fast and leads to no character moments. Once characters join, they settle into the party with hardly any head-butting between each other. Fortunately, the narrative is tight enough to not make it an issue, but people who've played the Persona games may feel like something is missing. I want to make a comparison to Dragon Age Veilguard and why that game's getting criticism for having overly positive party dynamics, but I haven't played it.
It's funny you bring up Veilguard since Pat brings up how Junpei is sexist and Youske is homophobic, but they were just saying on the Veilguard video how they just want characters to call them slurs. Obviously they are joking and it's not a one to know thing, but it kind of explains why P4 is my favorite cast. I will say Metaphor didn't bug me as much for being drama free since it's one of the few JRPGs where everyone is an adult and they all act like one. That in itself makes it stand out.
When he talked about it in an animated cutscene i was super confused because it literally never pops up in the story or causes any problems. The whole party is just pure and good and wanta to stop bad things, it can feel a little bland at times
Obviously I can’t say for certain, but I wonder if that could be a possible detriment to having an adult cast. I can only recount my experiences, but I never have as much vitriol to any adult I interact with irl as opposed to when I was a kid when it was socially acceptable to just have peers I could just hate because they did that one thing to me that I remember vividly but they probably forgot. Nowadays, I can say I dislike a coworker, but I’m not gonna to let that impact my job.
ATLUS games have small storylines going on everywhere between the world and the NPCs and it's been a thing for a while. when you teleport around instantly from function to function you lose all of that.
Saying he minmaxed so hard that he trivialized the final boss, Pat kinda confirmed why I can't watch his full playthroughs anymore lol. I often do the same thing in games but I don't think that's very engaging to watch. I won't forget all the off screen leveling in Dark Souls 3! 😤
I've played two ATLUS games this year: Metaphor I'm going through again on NG+, P3R I have no desire to ever play again. I enjoyed P3R, but god it just feels like a chore to do absolutely anything in that game at times. Metaphor just feels better for me. It's not perfect, but it's my favourite ATLUS game.
On the p3 reload convo animations are better than metaphor, another thing to take an account when comparing them is metaphor was in development for a long time so it's presumed they baesd conversation animations and gestures from P5 and Catherine since that was probably the time frame where is persona 3 reload is the newest iteration of animations. I recognize a couple of gesture animations that were from p5 in metaphor.
Me for last quarter of the game: Heismay dodge skill, Hulkenburg gaining extra turn everytime she tanks, Will doing his crazy shit and then i had strohl doing buffs and adding damage
Heismay's busted, but for the last two slots I preferred Junah and Eupha. Junah forces a fire weakness on everyone while Eupha hypers and then nukes everyone.
Yeah, honestly the anime cutscenes look like they come from some mid-tier studio’s b-team. Nothing looks horribly wrong, but it’s all kind of lifeless and boring and the character models just have a lot of the charm siphoned out of them somehow.
@UrLeingod Like they weren't completely unwatchable but towards the end there's some stuff that's really cool conceptually but the shitty berserk 2016 level cg on top of lifelessness was really letting it down
Holy shit I thought I was the only one who didn't really like them lmao. I kept seeing people talk about how beautiful they are, but they really just feel lifeless to me. I'd much rather they use the 3d models
I can understand people wanting to glaze Atlus for actually innovating their basic combat system for the first time in ages, but pretending they are the first people to solve lifeless 3D models is absurd. I'd like to hear some more discussion of areas it can improve. For example, and maybe this is a Japanese writing thing, but in this hundred-hour ass game's main story, you can probably count the number of sentences that Hulkenberg doesn't talk about eating or cooking on one hand. It's the same issue with FF7R and Wedge.
This kind of characterization annoys me to no end. Like a character having a gimmick or trope is a great shorthand way to introduce them, especially if their thing ties neatly into their story arc, but that single aspect of their personality is supposed to serve as a launching point for the rest of the character's journey and not just be the one note that they keep hitting over and over again. Western games are equally guilty of this sin but I think jrpgs get it worse because the character has to also go through a translation/localization filter on top of already being uncompellling
I overall agree that the soundtrack as a whole doesnt have the bops of P3 4 or 5, but they got pretty damn close with the ambush theme, gauntlet runner theme, Grand trad theme, and akademeia theme
I feel like the issue with the soundtrack is that it's too consistent to the high fantasy aesthetic and ends up lacking variety compared to the other games
I completely disagree with the teleporting thing. I live a very busy life and anytime the game gives me those options i feel it is repecting my time. If I feel the game is disrespectful of my time i will drop it. If i wasn't hellbent on completing p3 reload it would have been another game on the back burner never to be finished.
100% agree with Pat, i dont as feel emotionnaly attached to/affected by this game the same as Peraona games, but the gameplay, story and graphics are all well made.
Me getting home from my 10 hour shift as an electrician to listen to Pat talk about how it's hard to talk about how his job also makes him tired because of how lazy that sounds: "I hear ya bud".
As an SMT and Persona fiend, I've been struggling to get into Metaphor. I'm in a weird spot where I don't like all the ways it's like a Persona game (the awakening where they rip their hearts out feel weirdly rushed and less polished than P5 awakenings) and everywhere it steps away from the formula it just feels like a not-as-good Fire Emblem or FF (the battle theme having a melody very close to 3 Houses' theme is not helping.) I think it might be the setting. Beyond the fact that the visual fidelity feels like a half-step down from P3R, something about the "fantasy but we inserted just enough modernism" really disengages me.
I've been pretty disappointed with the awakenings yeah! I cant help but think they should have focused on WHO the awakened party member is speaking to with their heart, like Strohl did with an image of his people. Like you'd expect Hulkenberg to be speaking to an image of the prince, or Heimsway to maybe his son! Its very strange how much they feel like "the cool awakening scene needed to be checked off".
I think I liked Metaphor more than 5R, but I liked 4G more than either - but that's entirely a me thing because I actually enjoy the streamlined design and how the TV world is built to be raced through once you're familiar with the encounters. (It's also why I play 1 & 2 by getting rid of encounters (with Estoma and negotiation) as fast as possible.) 5R really drags in places, but Metaphor feels much better - because either the dungeon crawling is engaging, or you're steamrolling all of the blues. :D Even Ryuji's seventh Confidant skill (the instant kill) was only really good for farming drops in Mementos - you'd very rarely be doing instant kills in palaces.
"The audacity of my partner, whom is a chef, to come home from a 11 hour line cook chef shift, just to say "oh man, I'm SOOO tired." and cook dinner right in front of me. How DARE THEY?!" That's how streaming a game is different from playing it for fun.
Having enjoyed the game, there is a part of me that wonders about its potential longevity as a new IP Currently it’s hitting about the same numbers as P5R on Steam (higher trend in terms of total concurrent players, but P5R has more numbers at peak times), even though it’s all time high when it launched was 85k, well over Royal’s 30ish thousand (tho tbf that’s comparing a brand new game to a PC port a of a 2ish year old game). And I’m not *personally* (key word) seeing the same amount of fanfare (random conversation on Twitter or Bluesky, fan art on pixie or… more adult-oriented sites) about it as I did Persona, or even SMTV Granted it could be a game that warms up over time (and Persona & SMT were hella niche for the longest time), I just remember a lot of hype for the first week or so, and then it fell off a cliff, save for ppl like Woolie & Pat, as well as dedicated Atlus content creators. Granted that’s the case for every single player game, I just didn’t think I expected the hype around it to cool down as much and as fast as it did
I agree with Pat that this games soundtrack is not as strong as P3-5 with the amount of bangers that each of those games had. There's a handful in Metaphor but it doesn't have that unique pull and charm the Persona series had where you would just listen to most of those songs on repeat. Not to say this game is of lesser quality for it's soundtrack but it's standing in the company of greats and it just doesn't stand on equal footing with them.
Imagine you are playing Persona, and then you miss the time window to pick up the 7.99 game that lets you open up dialogue options with your party. Then what Woolie? ;)
I did the same thing against the final boss. I missed all the mechanics except for the attack, where he says something racist and then the party member of that race dies. Got hit by that once and died laughing.
P5's main crew as a whole doesn't really feel like it has a strong sense of camaraderie, especially compared to 4. Their only thing is shitting on Ryuji, and it'd be fine if it wasn't their only thing... I find Metaphor's crew ok, they're a tiny bit toothless together as a whole but with the light ribbing on each other during traveling and whatnot i can taste the tiniest bit of seasoning. I think a party's camaraderie in rpgs is more important than how amazing a party member is written by themselves. P4's crew doesn't feel as constantly cynical of each other like in 3 or as "they're your coworkers" as in 5. Though most of p4's crew presents as trying to be cooler/smarter/tougher than they really are, the other crew members are really sharp in calling each other out (not in a negative way) and easing each other into being more earnest and authentic when they're all together. They're kids, they'll rib on each other, they'll make each other angry, they'll make mistakes and assume wrongly about things together, but the game does a great job of having them play off each other's flaws and support each other's strengths.
I know this subjective and no one's opinion will change by reading this comment, but I can't fathom Ryujin being seen as "obviously" the best. I am one of those people who didn't like Junpei, but at least he stands out for actually being a hater. Ryujin felt so plain and cookie cutter to me and Pat breaking it down his only flaw is that "he's loud" only supports what I'm saying. Honestly it's starting to feel like Atlus made Morgana such a jerk to him so that they could make people want to defend Ryuji so much.
Ryuji at the start of the story + social link ryuji where he's a vit more of a delinquent but has emotional intelligence is great. Ryuji partway through the story around the 2nd or 3rd palace is a dribbling idiot who yells and acts like a child. Its really sad how stupid some of the cast become after Makoto joins
@willywitchdoctor God bless. Like, Ryuji's best qualities make him an incredibly endearing friend and bro, and his VA is so good at making him super personable and funny to listen to, but there's a reason he's last in a lot of polls in Japan. He's just really stupid and constantly gets the group in trouble with how loud he is, and his gloryhound goals for the PT are very obnoxious at times. Like I actually hate Yosuke, he's my least favorite, but he was the de facto leader of the P4 cast at least. And Junpei actually has a powerful character arc where he matures as a person, and as a man. Ryuji really doesn't get one, he's just the buttmonkey that gets bullied when he shouldn't be, but then does dumb shit that he doesn't get bullied for.
I’d say Yosuke is still the best bro of the three. The writing and localizing team did a great job of making the P4 team really feel like best friends.
i have to agree with the wall of texts. i immediately noped out of the disco before the voice acting was added. Also stuff like listening to the wheel of time audiobooks vs reading them if i saw jordan/sanderson was about to go into a detailed paragraph about the clothing someone was wearing id skim that section and often end up skipping some dialog or misremember names that later come up vs the audiobooks i couldn't skip and got more out of it..
I think if you need to make an “auto kill” or battle skipping mechanic for your game, your combat needs tuning in the first place. If people want to skip the fights, then either your fights aren’t engaging enough to begin with, or they’re too frequent to avoid becoming stale.
OST wise I would say Persona is always superior to whatever other series Atlus have. I am guessing Metaphor went more the SMT way than Persona. I haven't even playing Persona 3 Reload yet and I STILL have the songs playing when I'm working out, like ever since the game was released. TH-cam just pushes it on my autoplay all the time too.
If it went SMT then it would still be a 10/10 GOAT'D ost with more of a modern vibe. Same with Etrian. The only other atlus game to my own experience with mostly orchestral music was smt strange journey (never played Radiant Historia)
Honestly, i disagree with P5 that has the best crew. IMO the P5 thing did great was the style and the gameplay alone. Story was kinda meh and the characters aren't that compelling to me which why P5 was kinda disappointment to me overall. P4 was better overall than P5 imo, but P3 still has the best story and characters so far. Funny, i was affraid metaphor will be like another P5 consider the trailer look back then, thankfully its not and it's been great so far. And yeah, sthrol is the best boi
I can’t speak on P4, it’s much stronger and more interesting than P3/5. But personal taste may vary. The breadth of companions is so much more varied than other high school students.
@DeadmanNC1 I'm sorry I just felt passionate for a second but having played all the personas from PS2 onwards I gotta admit that persona did ultimately leave a stronger impression

@@ExaltedUriel Yeah he gave up cause he wasn't getting enough views, showing how much he truly "cares" for these games.
My favorite soundtrack of the year still is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
i think woolie is wrong abt the 3d model thing, digital devil saga and nocturne all had pretty good 3d models that fully emoted esp during cutscenes
Hashino did not write 4 and 5. He made story concept for 5. Yuichiro Tanaka and a bunch of other people are main writers. Same for Metaphor
Chie mooching off of Yosuke, Rise constantly clowning on Kanji, Yukiko laughing at the worst moments
Yosuke's constant fear of being bum rushed by Kanji, they're all great
Absolutely agree, it feels like they all have friendships outside of the MC. Like you're a pivotable part of the group, but even when you aren't around, Yukiko and Chie spend time together, Teddie lives with Yosuke, Rise and Kanji spend time together due to their respective families businesses, etc
I’m with you here.
Yosuke and Naoto will always have my heart.
Facts. P5 was a little disappointing in comparison when considering you didnt get enough group time with the whole squad.
Eupha is cute as hell and has some funny lines but she is just the weird foreigner trope with not much else going on
teleportation is purely a streaming issue, streamers are trying to get to the end of the game as quick as they can to move onto the next thing, where as I'm playing the game normally since I'm not getting paid to, I was always walking through the crowds looking for new dialogue from npcs or collectible bugs in new areas whenever i could, where as naturally pats chats gonna tell him exactly where everything is so the need to explore is gone within the first day or two.
honestly me using a fast travel option in games entirely depends on the loading screen for it being fun and how fun the traversal itself is in the game
I barely use fast travel in games like Spiderman and RDR2, but when I do I enjoy the loading screens showing the character still physically traveling the environment or chilling on a train
instant travel like in Elden Ring kinda takes me out of things, even if it makes sense in-universe
Ok tbh i teleported a lot because i just get into the flow and like to tick off all my tasks real quick and efficiently. But for big setpiece moments i would usually talk to npcs. During a mission period? No
Yeah that's what I don't understand about his complaint. Like Pat, if you don't like how teleportation affects the game, then you can just do it less.
@@LordlyWeebYeah wow no shit, that doesn't diminish the point though
@@Foostini I disagree but ok
I really felt what Pat was talking about with the lack of voice acting towards the tail end of the game. If Atlas ever gives this game another go, I'd love to play this again with more scenes fully voiced.
The characters are great, but I will say that Metaphor's party is drama free.
MINOR SPOILERS:
Like you would think Heismay was going to go through a whole arc with his prejudice against the paripus, but it's wrapped up fast and leads to no character moments.
Nowadays, I can say I dislike a coworker, but I’m not gonna to let that impact my job.
next time they should fix the assless 3D model problem
Slap a thong on the 3D models and call it a day
Yeah, bring back Hulkenberg’s cheeks
I wouldn't call Hulkenburg "assless".
@@verymelonman12 hulkenberg has a long back
@@verymelonman12 you might be alone in that
ATLUS games have small storylines going on everywhere between the world and the NPCs and it's been a thing for a while. when you teleport around instantly from function to function you lose all of that.
I gotta say, the Grand Trad theme sits rent free in my head
That was definitely the one song i found myself humming the most with akademeia being second
Real and true, the Night theme is also a nice version of it.
there havent been permanent discount slashes on digital games in like a decade
Saying he minmaxed so hard that he trivialized the final boss, Pat kinda confirmed why I can't watch his full playthroughs anymore lol. I often do the same thing in games but I don't think that's very engaging to watch. I won't forget all the off screen leveling in Dark Souls 3! 😤
they're comparing the music to Persona, while ignoring SMT. Which knocks the piss out of some Persona music.
Does Unicorn Overlord counts too?
Dodge tank is insane with the draw aggro skill. Heismay just never gets hit and instantly ends the enemies turn
I hope metaphor gets a "Disco Elysium final cut" treatment in terms of getting full voice acting
Heismay is second only to Frog in my opinion, like right up there with Piccolo to quote Jean in No More Heroes 3
Chat: The Final Boss has hands.
Pat: My hands are bigger.
I actually wish all the cutscenes were using the ingame models because the anime cutscenes kinda looked like ass
At least Wedge was a secondary character.
The worst of it was how often the word “anxiety” was said in the last third of the game
More metaphor talk? Christmas came early
Me getting home from my 10 hour shift as an electrician to listen to Pat talk about how it's hard to talk about how his job also makes him tired because of how lazy that sounds: "I hear ya bud".
32:00 Obsidian was just wrong, Owlcat had both Pathfinder games do fine without full voice acting
As an SMT and Persona fiend, I've been struggling to get into Metaphor. I'm in a weird spot where I don't like all the ways it's like a Persona game (the awakening where they rip their hearts out feel weirdly rushed and less polished than P5 awakenings) and everywhere it steps away from the formula it just feels like a not-as-good Fire Emblem or FF (the battle theme having a melody very close to 3 Houses' theme is not helping.)
I think it might be the setting.
I think Metaphor should be treated as its own thing.
I was always jammin' to Grand Trad. I know all the words to Junah's Saint's Day Ballad!!
I never teleport in games, including persona. maximum immersion, i don't care how long it takes :o
i'd never make it as a streamer
I think I liked Metaphor more than 5R, but I liked 4G more than either - but that's entirely a me thing because I actually enjoy the streamlined design and how the TV world is built to be raced through once you're familiar with the encounters. (It's also why I play 1 & 2 by getting rid of encounters (with Estoma and negotiation) as fast as possible.) 5R really drags in places, but Metaphor feels much better - because either the dungeon crawling is engaging, or you're steamrolling all of the blues. :D
Even Ryuji's seventh Confidant skill (the instant kill) was only really good for farming drops in Mementos - you'd very rarely be doing instant kills in palaces.
whatever, virga island theme slap🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
That and the main battle theme are the two I have on repeat when I’m at work
"The audacity of my partner, whom is a chef, to come home from a 11 hour line cook chef shift, just to say "oh man, I'm SOOO tired." and cook dinner right in front of me. How DARE THEY?!"
That's how streaming a game is different from playing it for fun.
Having enjoyed the game, there is a part of me that wonders about its potential longevity as a new IP
Currently it’s hitting about the same numbers as P5R on Steam (higher trend in terms of total concurrent players, but P5R has more numbers at peak times), even though it’s all time high when it launched was 85k, well over Royal’s 30ish thousand (tho tbf that’s comparing a brand new game to a PC port a of a 2ish year old game). And I’m not *personally* (key word) seeing the same amount of fanfare (random conversation on Twitter or Bluesky, fan art on pixie or… more adult-oriented sites) about it as I did Persona, or even SMTV
Granted it could be a game that warms up over time (and Persona & SMT were hella niche for the longest time), I just remember a lot of hype for the first week or so, and then it fell off a cliff, save for ppl like Woolie & Pat, as well as dedicated Atlus content creators. Granted that’s the case for every single player game, I just didn’t think I expected the hype around it to cool down as much and as fast as it did
I didn't use heismay or have high dodge for the final boss and it was a much cooler fight for it
Yeah, bosses tend to be cooler when they actually get a turn
I was also surprised how many new games went on sale this year
Eht ria is my favorite town music. Shits always stuck in my head
I love teleporting. Especially if you can still walk around manually
Then what Woolie? ;)
This is i why I play on hard. Otherwise, I will break the game. Ive played too many rpgs at this point
I don't get why woolie thinks P5 is the best cast when half of them might as well just leave after the halfway point.
I did the same thing against the final boss. I missed all the mechanics except for the attack, where he says something racist and then the party member of that race dies. Got hit by that once and died laughing.
why would a remake receive a bigger budget than their new game?
Metaphor is a great turnbased game!
@@tyomega9939 Yeah you put it perfectly, I just felt like he became the role of "comic relief" and never made him more than that.

This is long, when does he talk about the lifeless 3d model problem being solved?
i have to agree with the wall of texts. i immediately noped out of the disco before the voice acting was added.
And of course smt gets completely ignored..... thanks atlus, wonderful marketing
IMO it's "3 best overarching story, 4 best cast and moment-to-moment story, 5 best gameplay", now with Reload 3 kinda has both.
There's a gaping hole in Metaphor? Man, they already just copied/pasted content from old games, just how many corners did they cut?
Neat
I thought this video was about VTubers
Honestly, i disagree with P5 that has the best crew. IMO the P5 thing did great was the style and the gameplay alone. Story was kinda meh and the characters aren't that compelling to me which why P5 was kinda disappointment to me overall. P4 was better overall than P5 imo, but P3 still has the best story and characters so far.
Funny, i was affraid metaphor will be like another P5 consider the trailer look back then, thankfully its not and it's been great so far. And yeah, sthrol is the best boi

I honestly think the Metaphor cast is the weakest if you compare with P3/4/5.
I can’t speak on P4, it’s much stronger and more interesting than P3/5. But personal taste may vary. The breadth of companions is so much more varied than other high school students.
