The fact that Morinth is higher than Zaeed, EDI, Kaiden, Vetra, and even Javik is a crime. Her character range is that she has mommy issues and then emulates her mom until the end of the game, then faces the consequences of your actions later. This list doesn't seem t have consistency to that fault, where it's not about their combat effectiveness, it's not about how they're written, it's not even about character dissection and analysis, because through their timelines, Vetra and Kaided cook for you (Even if they aren't good at it), EDI forgives you (if you're a nerd, you know what for), Javik is a character piece about how pain can carry you through hard times, and Zaeed "Is like you, but takes checks", which if you talk to and listen to him, he's got some great stories and has interesting character interactions in missions where there are speaking members of the blue suns. Much of this list feels confused to me because of this AND that Ashley is ranked higher than Samara, who uses stasis on you if you try to romance the code-bound asari MILF.
I'm more cross with the fact that Jimmy Vega was dumped last in this ranking, considering how, despite having appeared only on one game and a prequel cartoon series, he's become quite the likeable, candid human tank (also his character design is a proper showcase of how Bioware can do human anatomy); probably not in the same level as Wrex or Grunt, but still palatable. If anything, I'd dump Liam AND Cora at the bottom of this list. The former for being a confusing fusion of Kaidan's biotics into James's build (seriously, are they trying to make him a super saiyan or something?); the latter bcoz of how she's possibly connected to The Illusive man, AND how she could not STFU about how she has been trained by Asari commandos. Hell, I'd have the entire Andromeda squadmate roster (sans Drack bcoz Krogan with bone armor FTW) at the bottom, for having too little to offer compared to the OT roster (maybe apart from Jacob; his romance arc had me laughing from the cringe.. XD)
@@dakotahsmith8320 if there's any consolation to Jacob tho, at the very least his voice matches his appearance well. Which cannot be said with the Human squadmates in Andromeda...
@@DedMan28 that's not all that matters though even with that most of the squad members in Andromeda had more usefulness and personality then he did his powers where useless the majority of the time all he had where pull and incendiary ammo with incendiary being the most useful in my opinion.
Well she is kinda racist, has a big ego, is naive .... everything humanity is as well throughout the games. Actually humanity is the worst part about Mass Effect.
@@juliajuanafernandaalvarez1456 she does a have bit of a change of heart through me1 though, if you challenge her all her racist beliefs she begins to change
@Gr8sc0tt in defense of the Asari the VI did speak Prothian and Shepherd only understood it and activated it because they had the language burned into their brain. Spot on with all the rest though.
Kaidan 24th was so surprising to me. I recently had my first run where I didn't kill Kaidan and I was so pleasantly surprised. Me and Kaidan became bros. He's not boring, he's refreshingly levelheaded compared to everyone else around him.
Kaiden makes me wonder why they still don’t have decent anti-depressants in the 23rd century (or whatever century it is) Also is it just me or did the voice actor turn up to the studio completely trolleyed for ME3? He slurs literally every line
Personal Ranking after playing through trilogy 8-10 times: (Also set in order horizontally) Tier 1: Tali / Liara / Garrus Tier 2: Mordin / Wrex / EDI Tier 3: Samara / Grunt / Jack Tier 4: Legion / Zaeed / Thane Tier 5: Javik / Miranda / Ashley Tier 6: Kasumi / Kaiden / James Tier 7: Morinth Tier 8: Jacob Did not finish Andromeda, but most of them would have been in Tier 4 and 5, with one notable exception. Jacob would still be alone in tier 8 though.
My only two problems with your ranking were Kasumi and Jack. Kasumi was an interesting character, and VERY useful in combat if you knew how to utilize her capabilities. Also she's kinda sexy. Jack is just badass, very powerful, one of the best squad mates to have when you're going up against a lot of enemies. I would probably replace EDI with Jack, and put Kasumi in Jack's place. Other than that I totally agree with your ranking
@@kologar8387 @Kologar I played in Xbox aswell and I did about 1000 playthrpughs of both male and female shepherd with every single class and every single origin. I 100% all 3 games. I have both let Wrex die and saved Wrex on Vermire. I romanced every character I could with every interaction I could. I did every possible ending even the worst ones. Do not cite the deep magic to me I was there when it was written!
Even a loyal Jacob's death in the vent can be overcome and everyone else can live. He doesn't contribute much to the points average in the end. I always make sure I can cover leaving Zaeed's loyalty mission undone so I can do it after the collector mission and let him burn alive at the refinery.
Speaking of Vega. I like the moments where you ask him to perform some technical assignments on some missions. He tells you upfront that he doesnt know shit about tech but he is willing to try, then procedes to just kick or break the thing. Its kind of funny. That alone puts him above The 3 you mentioned. Thats my oppinion atleast. He can be funny in many situations just playing stupid. Cant say that about Jacob.
James vega pissed me off acting like he's hot shit but compared to the entire ME cast he's done nothing of note. Imo James should have been like Jenkins a soldier who looks up to shepherd
Not to mention that he's a great squadmate in the 3rd game. Overload, Reave, come on! ... And he's sturdy. His conversations are fine. A little boring, but not bad. His list suck tbh.
@@SValens He's great squadmate in the first game too. He can open everything with decryption and electronics and has some of the best CC abilities in the game.
This video just reminded me why Mass Effect is infinitely re-playable. You could do dozens of playthroughs and still not see every crew combination in every scenario. Such a shame that in the last decade the Videogame Industry did a full 180 from attempting anything like this ever again.
You cant do anything like this right now because if something doesnt bring profit right now, its discarded - thats how we end up with MOBAs, PUBGs, Counter strikes and sport games (they can be industrialized AND bring constant profit which games like ME dont).
@@Dark_Voice dota and lol released around 2010, cs released in 2000, so your point doesn't make sense. It's more like the fact that those game are the easiest to make profitable, not that they are made solely with profit in mind
Honestly I really enjoyed James He really can take a hit It was common to see him pull aggro and fighting brutes marauders and banshees by himself and somehow come out on top during my insanity playthrough
Yeah, dude can tank. Put a Typhoon in his hand, he will slaughter any enemy, even on insanity. I picked him a lot because it was fun to watch, how he and Garrus (of course) destroys everything in the way without the need of my help. Pure madness.
I'm sorry but thane before garrus? I love thane, but to use his dying soon as an excuse to rank him higher? The last mission of the second game was a suicide mission. They all knew they might not come back no matter how healthy or how old. It's not more honorable for thane to go with you then someone young and promising like Garrus, tali etc. Not to mention garrus is the only one who drops everything to join you each time in each game. (Maybe a quick mission with him, then he's down) Garrus is top spot.
I agree, on so much criteria is he so good. In all three games he has the most versatile weapon set, with some great abilities. Can actually be kitted out to be a trainwrecker, much easier and better than most others. And personally, he's got the brocharm for days.
Kaidan doesnt deserve that low. Hes pretty useful and hes forever my space hubby. Ashley was boring to me and shes a Soldier. I dont need another Soldier in ME3. Kaidan all the way!
@@ainfaiz6201 Kaidan just has better abilities. And I easily got attached to Kaidan. I could not connect with Ashley. She was just off for me so ... 🤷🤷
@@N7xPhoenix As for Ashley, she wasn't that bad of a squadmate and I actually wanted to see her character development as well but i could not for the love of my life, sacrifice Kaidan. I just couldn't. The man is so vanilla and boring, but he always made me hot(?), shy(?) and his constant headache made him cuter(?). But like Im a straight man. Idk, what i know is that when ME3 was released and they open male/male romance option with Kaidan, Im apologize to Liara, Tali, Jack and Miranda 💀 no one compares to that biotic husband of mine. 3 playthroughs and all of them is me and Kaidan.
Can't say I agree with a lot of this early bits on the list. Jacob is the absolute worst. And Vega and Kaiden (whom I actually really like in 3) are better than anyone in Andromeda..
It's amazing to see how everyone has a different perspective and their own reasoning for the ranking of the Mass Effect's characters. It shows how each of us had a unique experience playing this game.
That´s really what Mass Effect is all about, there is no right/wrong way of playing the story, who you like, who you romance .... it´s different for all of us.
Yeah, some surprises here and not the list I would have chosen. So since we're ranking here's my opinion on the correct order: 1. Liara. Her love of Shep is what puts her here. She brought you back from the dead. 2. Equal tie Tali and Garrus. The best brother and/or sister you'll ever have. Provided you don't mix up the food with yours. 4. Wrex. Lots of reasons, but he did take out a shuttle by falling on it. And that's enough really. 5. Edi. Her development is one of the great joys to behold. She is Shep's daughter in so many ways. 6. Grunt. He might be a teenager, but he's your Krogan teenager. Sheppeerrrrrddd. 7. Mordin. Simply a brilliantly well written character. His atonement arc is a timeless piece of story telling. But Gilbert and Sullivan puts him ahead. 8. Thane. He doesn't have Gilbert and Sullivan, nor does he cure a species extinction. 9. Samara. Not only very well written, but also a complete badass in actual game play. 10. Javik. Loses points for not being in the other games. He's great. 11. Tie with Jack, Miranda and Ashley. These 3 women's stories all speak to the human condition and demonstrate massive character growth in the games. 14. Legion. Invaluable squadmate, Invaluable exposition. 15. Kasumi Underdeveloped massively. 16. Cora and Peebee. They would be ranked higher, but suffer from poor character writing and development. 18. Drack. Again just misses the mark. 19. Vetra. She tries to come across as this Han Solo/mama bear/big sister but it doesn't land well. 20. Kaidan and Morinth. There's nothing to dislike. 22. Jaal. There is something off about the execution here. 23. Zaeed. He useful, but he's nuts. 24. Aria. Loses a lot of points for not being playable in every mission. However is also downright scary. 25. Nyreen. As above on playablity except she's boring. 26. James. The most forced choice in all games. Honestly, they should have gotten rid of him straight after Mars. 27. Brooks. Sure she steals your ID and tries to kill you. But she's still better than Jacob or Liam. 28. Equal last. Liam and Jacob. If Virmire had come down to these 2, I would have deployed another nuke. They are easily the 2 worst characters ever written by Bioware. The hate is justified: they're insufferable a holes.
He's one of the weakest and squishiest, I dont know if you put it on Narrative and thought you play insanity or what BUT only Garrus and Tali (only early game) are worst that him.
@@Dark_Voice Speck Garrus for assault riffles, give him typhoon and he'll solo harversters in seconds even early game if you imported your character from me2 and have some points to spend. On insanity of course.
Lol, starting with Vega who at least has a personality, and not the likes of Jacob who literally ONLY has bad ideas, or Morinth who is a sociopathic manipulative liar who flatout kills you with her romance. I know it's personal preference and all, but James at his worst is a bit annoying. He's reliable, he's loyal, and he's honest towards you. He tries to bond with squadmembers, and if leveled properly his damage comes close to "God Garrus". I'll never understand the reason people hate James.
James is honest and respectful. He trusts Shepard and his leadership. ...Now compare him to Jacob... People forget, that James is officially serving under Shepard's command within a military hierarchy so it's not appropriate for him to have sassy comments and to question everything that Shepard does. He does not have the same privilege that Shepard's alien friends have (they are basically external contractors). But James is that kind of guy that you feel you could be great friends with if you had more time and the circumstances were different.
@@Mamonar Exactly, well put. He also confides in Shepard about his concerns, his worries, pretty much anything. I get the feeling people dont like him because they cant look past the stereotype of "the shallow musclehead". The guy has way more depth to him then people give him credit for and its a damn shame.
I can only say that due to BioWare chumping the living Hell out of ME3 relationships (Miranda, Jack), your analysis is just as valid as anyone else's. Thane was awesome, and was one that transitioned well from ME2 to ME3. I will forever be a Miranda white knight, and the Shadow Broker files on her were absolutely heartbreaking. That she got completely bungled in ME3 is incontestable. Everyone loves Tali and Garrus (rightly so), so kudos to you for going with your gut and picking Thane.
James is at the bottom WTF? I would definitely Jack towards the bottom and Liara towards the top. Jacks sucks a teamate. I was so excited when I saw her badass cinematic entrance. She appeared to be so powerful and awesome. Wrong. Dead wrong.
Bottom Line, the fact that Jacob isn't at the bottom of this list absolutely discredits it. Especially with the attempt to make Vega fill that spot. Absolutely trash lmao
Bro I made this comment as soon as I watched the first minute of the video. But how the actual fuck can Morinth be as high as she is. Absolute trash through and through.
Actually, Kasumi knows about the Morinth switch too, but she doesn't say anything, but there is a little unique dialog when you talk to her on the ship.
So Morinth is actually highly suspected by Kelly, and i believe Kasumi actually says something to the effect of "i know what you did, i'm sure you have your reasons"
Something else too, he's way more useful than Ashley as a squadmate. Wrex pretty much works better in most situations Ashley can be in, and his versatility makes him a key squadmate. Unless you're adept or engineer, Ashley is pretty disposable.
@@edschramm6757 Yes the only time Morinth speaks in her actual voice is on Tuchunka with Mordin or Grunt in your party although I don’t think they actually catch onto her. The Shadow Broker suspects Morinth and notes her “changed agendas” of the actual Samara. Kasumi however straight up knows about Morinth. And when using Dominate she goes “Behold the power of the Ardat-Yakshi”
Ashley's loyalty can't be matched???? She completely blows you off in ME2 and spends the first 2/3 of Me3 wracked with doubts about you. She's arguably the least loyal to you throughout the series, along with Kaiden filling mainly the same role.
They were Alliance long before Shepard's crew. Imagine it this way, you're in a military and have a good friend and this person reported dead in action. You mourned for them for 2 years, only to see them alive and kicking, working with the terrorist. As much as I wanted Kaidan as my crewmate in ME2 (I love him on god💀), it only make sense the plot is like that. It would be stupid for them to go "Oh hey, you still alive after reported dead for 2 years, glad to see you. Oh you're working with the terrorist now? Cool, lemme just ignore my duty and join you👍"
@@ainfaiz6201 she didn't have to join, but she could of put some faith in shepard. Someone who literally sacrifices kaiden to save her and vice versa, someone who put themselves in harm's way for her and countless others multiple times, and yet she gives shepard no credit or trust at all. Complete disrespect for one and a half games, and then she expects you to just shrug it off at the end, you can argue "duty" all you want, she's still a bitch.
@@carrinanorth4224 that's actually a good point. But also considering ME 1 showing a sneak peak of how messed up Cerberus experiments were it only make sense that they thought Shepard wasn't the real Shepard that they'd once called Commander. Idk about Ashley since i could never sacrifice Kaidan for her, but Kaidan in ME3 wasn't disrespectful, just somewhat doubtful, plus during the Mars, Kaidan actually laughed when Shepard called him stubborn. I assume Ashley is like this also(?) For someone who have experienced saving Ashley and Kaidan in their playthroughs, were their tone the same? Doubtful? Or Ashley was ruder than Kaidan? Or the other way around?
Like the boldness to make Thane #1, and then to double down on the cover art at the end. I still have Garrus as my #1 but Thane is in my Top 3. Really solid list all around! Wasn’t much I disagreed with. Thanks for the video!
I cannot put Thane that high because....Garrus, Wrex, Tali, Legion, Grunt, Liara (Not in any particular order). These characters are just sooo much more than others.
I personally find Liara incosistent and pretty poorly writted as a character. PeeBee is much more interesting in every way - banter, interests, character consistency and depth and her romance even with one game feels less forced than Liara that will just force herself on you until you give in or are forced to be rude (her gift before the final charge to the beam) PeeBee leaves you alone and you have to start it. She is funny and a much better expert, more objective, she gets information more accurate than Liara (she knows about the Volcano and shit more than Liara knows about Cerberus raids, locations they will hit or the Prothean VI on Thesia. I personally dont find a single place where Liara is better than PeeBee. (Apart from having singularity possibly.)
* Vega isn't that bad when there are the likes of Cora, Liam, Jacob, and ME1 Ashley. * Although Kaidan in ME1 was dull as a grey brick, I think he was quite cool in ME3. He's a good guy to meet in real life, not in a video game. * I actually thought Jaal was the best Andromeda squadmate, fight me. He isn't supposed to be Javic... * Ashley is too high IMO, can't really stand her ME1 persona, ME3 she was a bit better, not by much though. * Wrex is only 11? Really? He's 2nd in my list, there is no Mass Effect without him and Garrus. He's absolute badass throughout the trilogy. It's a travesty Grunt is rated above Wrex here. * And my number 1 is Kasumi Goto, above Garrus, Wrex, Tali, Mordin... Fight me fiercely. * Ya, PB in 5 is wild. And vastly overrated. * Thane number 1? He's great and all, but not nowhere near number 1. But you know, if Kasumi is my number 1 then I have to accept it.
I liked the fact that Cora is suppose to be Illusive Man's daughter. As far as I remember, that got me interested in her, but her character did still disappoint greatly. There was a lot of potential in that, but they screwed it up. Now all she can yatt about is being an "Asari Huntress." And she's not even an Asari. Blergh.
I mean they probably would've expounded upon that later in the series if they were going to continue it. Unfortunately we may never get to see that which is a huge travesty
Mordin Solus is #1 for me. Followed by Liara (can't have my romance partner lower than #2), Tali (3), Kasumi (4), Miranda (5), (as you can see, I like my ladies!), Thane Krios (6), Legion (7), Garrus (8), Jack (9), Wrex (# 10 a much more developped and interesting character than Grunt). I haven't played Andromeda.
Love to see so many different perspectives on what they think on each character. I would not have put Jacob so high on this list to be honest. I’m also surprised you put Morinth up so much. But hey, it’s your video and your list
Can't fathom that Peanut Butter or whatever the hell her/its name is made it up so far in your list. Drack was probably the only character I liked in Abomineda. I usually rank my favorite characters by how often I took them with me on missions. In ME1, I always had a *Garrus* and *Wrex* combo once I got them on the team. In ME2, it was *Grunt* and *Mordin,* and on occasion, replacing either of the two with *Legion* once he joined. In ME3, I was more specific on who I had chosen: -Garrus is a must since he's the only regular squadmate that's been with you since ME1. But bringing him with either Liara or Kaidan (yes, I let Ashley die) is a treat when you encounter Wrex and Tali. -Same goes when bringing Garrus and EDI on missions involving former squadmates in ME2 like Tali, Zaeed, Grunt, Jacob, Jack, Samara, Mordin, Kasumi, Legion and Miranda. It's funny seeing when they realize who EDI is. -I loved bringing Javik for his blunt nature, and how others would react to seeing a Prothean. Apart from Ashley in ME1 (who I eventually sacrificed to save my lover), Tali and James were the only two squadmates I never brought whenever the choice was given to me: From the get go, I despised James. The Leviathan DLC was one of my favorites, but it had ONE "minor" setback: the fact that Vega just barges in mid-mission and is shoehorned as a squadmate... and Tali was too much of an annoying crybaby, so I never chose her.
Although my personal highest would be Mordin/Wrex/Legion (in no particular order, I love them all so much), James came out of nowhere and hit me right in the feels. At the SPECIFIC time ME3 came out and I was playing it, my own brother who very much resembles James in every way, went in to train with the Royal Marines. The combination of me missing my irl brother and that James came as a small replacement made me instantly really like him. I legit cried as at the end of my first playthough, I pushed with him and he got vaporized. When that sad little black and white image of him came up of him punching a punching bag and smiling to the camera HOT DAMN did that hurt me big time. So, for me personally, James is definitely higher than most people's lists.
James is honestly as interesting an addition to ME3 as Cortez, Traynor and Javik. The problem is that he doesn't look interesting to most at first, being a new human character. But if you actually take your time to get to know him, he's a very sympathetic and conflicted guy, who you help come into its own and develop a second bromamce with. But people see a meathead human character and don't bother to give him a chance, sadly
@@Practicallypreposterous Yes this is true. I assumed he'd be boring but honestly I was very surprised and happy to really enjoy talking to him. The meathead exterior with all the real emotions lurking underneath reminded me of my brother even more xD
I've been watching ME content these few days simply because I'm playing the LE. And I read one of the comment in one of those videos saying something along the lines of "no ME squad mate is as bland as James Vega" and I was like "Who's James Vega?" And then I googled it. I played the trilogy years ago, sure but damn, Vega was that bad. Anyway, this list is weird, guys. Of course all of this is subjective. I'd put Liara on top, I know many won't agree but my blue waifu comes first. And then Garrus, Wrex, Mordin, and Tali. Thane, EDI, Legion would follow. Won't make my own list but I could never take Grunt seriously. Everytime I see him, I compare him to Wrex and no Krogan can compare. Samara was super cool too. Kaidan might be boring but I prefer him over Ashley. Errr, I probably should make my own list now. Hahaha
tali freaking carried me in me1. ranked up shields and shotguns and my home girl was clearing merc outposts for me while i hid by the door. my team in me1 was kaidan for medics, electronics and decoding and tali for the actual warfare. i would clasify them in tiers instead of lists tier 1 tali, garrus and edi tier 2 kaidan, miranda, wrex, mordin, thane, samara. tier 3 jack, legion (underdeveloped, could be much more), kasumi, grunt, zaeed tier 4 morinth, james, jacob, ashley (ew) i didnt include liara because there is no contest, her plot relevance is equal to or even higher than that of shepard himself so she is more of the second protagonist than a squadmate
Well there are certainly some hot takes in this video. Most of them blatantly wrong, but everyone has opinions and as the saying goes "they all stink".
Man, I don't even need to look at the comments to know that you aren't going to have a consensus agreeing with you... and neither will anybody else giving their own list ind disagreement here, either. That is the beauty of Mass Effect. the characters are so subjectively likeable according to who you are and how much time you spend with characters... and how you shape them with your interactions. There's nothing wrong with your list and there's nothing wrong with anyone else's either.
S Tier: Garrus, Ashley, Leigon (Sniper Rifle Gang) A Tier: Grunt, Wrex, Zaeed B+ Tier: Mordin, Samara, Javik B Tier: Tali, Thane, Liara C Tier: James, Kasumi, Jack D Tier: EDI, Jacob F Tier: Kaidan, Miranda Garrus is almost the most useful squadmate in gameplay in almost every game (he's barely beaten by Legion in 2) and is the ultimate homie. Ashley is by far the best romance option. A loyal dutiful family oriented hot fertile god fearing woman without any daddy issues (as opposed to every other girl in the universe). Her ability to carry a sniper rifle makes her the 2nd best combatant in 3 and 3rd in. Her writing is inconsistent in all 3 games, Bioware didn't seem like the knew what they wanted to do with her, but she's still awesome. Every conversation with Legion is fascinating. Other than Mordin, he has the best story of any squadmate. He's an unparalleled beast in combat and it's a crying shame he didn't join the Normandy in 3. Grunt just makes me happy. He's fun and he brings the best out of Shepard. And he's a beast in combat. I think Wrex makes a better ally than a squadmate, he's a bit of a loose cannon. 2nd best combatant in 1, and an amazing side character in 2 and 3. Other than Legion, Zaeed tells the best stories in the crew. And he can hold a sniper rifle which makes him very useful in combat. Mordin would be S Tier if he didn't suck so hard in combat and had more content. What an excellent character. Samara is good in combat and is a very interesting character that stands out. Javik is a good combatant, tells great stories, and is a consistent forceful voice against Reaper propaganda. Tali is a good character. She's an average combatant. She gives off teenage girl vibes and she feels out of place on a warship. Romancing her feels creepy. Thane is solid all around. Liara is boring and she sucks at combat in ME1. She becomes more interesting as things progress but she usually still rides the bench in 3. James is fine. He fills the same "default squadmate until I get someone better" role Kaidan and Jacob have. He's definitely better than those 2. Kasumi is mildly interesting but sucks at combat. Like Tali she feels out of place on the Normandy. Jack is a complete Trainwreck but she has an interesting arc and a cool power. EDI has some good jokes but her story doesn't do anything for me. And she's useless in combat. Jacob just takes up space. Miranda is just unbearably annoying. Her "God's gift to humanity" attitude would be a lot more tolerable if she didn't suck so bad at fighting. Kaidan is boring and far and away the most useless in combat. He dies 4 seconds after the fighting starts.
The fact that Morinth isn't last place is really concerning, she's a nothing character, she emulates a character you should have. You're basically punished for having her, she doesn't show up in 3 till its as Banshee. She's a psycho killer and putting her above anyone is a crime and concerning. And putting Kaiden that low shows you don't understand much about his character and just didn't pay attention to him, he's easily a more interesting character than Ashley, hes got L2 biotic implants that cause him migraines on the regular, he was abused during his training and finally had enough, killing his abusive Turian instructor, but instead of hating all of them, like a certain someone who doesn't even have a reason to hate, chooses to acknowledge a person's actions are their own, and on Virmire hes actively upset when you can't talk down Wrex, giving Ashley or even Shep shit for pulling the trigger too early. What genuinely does Ashley have, christianity, racism, and a family more interesting than her, this whole list seems like someone heard these characters voices for 30 seconds and ranked them from that.
Ashley isnt a racist. She was mistrustful and doubtful, and really, she was right. She also geniunely saw Tali as a little sister and she will be hostile to you if Tali dies. She was willing to give her life for the Citadel Council. There is also the fact that she absolutely despises Cerberus and they are the biggest bunch of racists in the games by far. Part of what makes her so interesting, is seeing her grow. Kaiden already did all of his growth. Off screen. We hear about it but we do not get to see. I do not want to be told. I want to see. I also love how your actions can influence Ashley and how she sees you. Not so with Kaiden. Kaiden is also less likely to question your morality. Kaiden is a good guy but I prefer Ashley.
Not going to lie, but for some reason, i think they are all just extremely great! (except for the Andromeda ones and Jack, she is just anoying.....) But i put Grunt on number 1, because he is just the biggest enrichment in/for the Citadel DLC! i meant just compare them all to other Games Companions, like Fallout for example....
Not quite; Ashley has her family, which I think sets her apart from Kaiden. Kaiden has BAaT, whereas Ashley has her family's shame when her grandfather surrendered during the First Contact War, to her own fathers career (including their shared love of poetry), to being a big sister. This rounds Ashley into a more rounded character. It is a shame, they missed quite an opportunity with Kaiden; could've gone into more depth about his problems with the L2, or changed his story so he and Rani were married, maybe with a child or two. Hell, even just learning more about his parents other than they let him get shipped off to brain camp. The first playthough of ME, I chose to save Ashley just on the basis of knowing she had family. How much more difficult, and heart wrenching, would the decision be if we knew Kaiden was married.
@@SH-qs7ee You know that FemShep is a whole thing, right? And Kaidan is our only male love interest in 2 games? Sorry if straight male Sheps don't care as much about Kaidan but most of the straight FemSheps are perfectly fine leaving Ash on Virmire. 🙄
@@Deztyn I didn't care about Kaiden because you could have put him next to a cardboard cutout of him and have trouble choosing which one had more personality. And chances were the cardboard cutout would have come with a more engaging backstory too. Like I said. We know Ashley has family that she is close to, a family legacy she is trying to live down, humor, heartache, everything that makes us want to care about a character. Does Kaiden have siblings? How is his relationship with his parents? Does he have any close relationships with anyone, aside from the commander and his doctor? Who knows.
Worth noting that the whole Ashley is a space racist thing is actually reversible. If you pick the right dialogue choices in ME1 while romancing her, she loses a lot of her racist tendencies, hence why they're far less noticeable in the sequels. A lot of people don't seem to know you can change her mind. Big Dan Gaming did a video on how to make Ash a 'paragon' if you don't know how.
This entire list is quite bs. If you didnt know which position was EDI on this list, you would think she is somewhere close to the top because you literally say nothing wrong about her. THere is no justification for why some characters are above others and it feels really random. From 16th place you have no weaknesses pretty much. Hell Ashley seems to be worse than EDI based on your description why.
James Vega is not a one dimensional character, he’s not even dumb! He’s a very passionate person who has a lack of confidence because of his failure to be the same kind of leader Shepard is and losing everyone on his first mission to be a leader. He’s also very caring and hates when people are exploited like in the Leviathan dlc. That was a completely ignorant placement, maybe James would be low, but I found myself caring more about him than I did with Jacob who’s always passive aggressive and never really opens up the same way James does or Zaeed who’s just your run of the mill bounty hunter hardass who’s lack of a dialogue wheel on the ship in ME2 really has to rely on the surface level of his character which, again is basic, at least Kasumi had a better done backstory (and an actual backstory that’s not just a revenge bounty)
My top 5 1 - Tali'Zorah (I just love her contrast of shyness, feisty, sarcastic, flirty) 2 - Garrus Vakarian (best bro nuff said.) 3 - Legion ( my robot-friend) 4 - Wrex (best Uncle with many presents) 5- Mordin ( My favorite doctor, singer and... *cough* sexual consultant *cough*)
For James there is a movie surrounding him before he joined up with Shepard. It gives a nice background for him which would be the only reason he’s higher up on the list.
Idk about thane being #1 but reading his last prayer with his son in me3 just to find out it’s for you and not him really sold me on his character as a whole
XD)
@@DedMan28 if anything I would put Jacob at the bottom.
@@dakotahsmith8320 if there's any consolation to Jacob tho, at the very least his voice matches his appearance well. Which cannot be said with the Human squadmates in Andromeda...

Kaidan 24th was so surprising to me. I recently had my first run where I didn't kill Kaidan and I was so pleasantly surprised. Me and Kaidan became bros. He's not boring, he's refreshingly levelheaded compared to everyone else around him.
kaiden is legit my second bro companion after garrus, i really liked his arc as he tried to trust shepard again
I honestly can't believe they like Ashley more than Kaidan 😔
I feel the exact same way
Kaiden makes me wonder why they still don’t have decent anti-depressants in the 23rd century (or whatever century it is)

@@Cellatu i like em both but I do prefer Ash over Kaiden
In Javik's cycle, they wouldnt rank companions. They would just march them against the reapers.
And eat the survivors.
Just a reminder that if you have Garrus’s loyalty in ME2 he will walk off death itself for you.
Yep unlike thane even though he's dying LOL
Miranda will do the same even without loyalty.
Personal Ranking after playing through trilogy 8-10 times: (Also set in order horizontally)
Tier 1: Tali / Liara / Garrus
Tier 2: Mordin / Wrex / EDI
Tier 3: Samara / Grunt / Jack
Tier 4: Legion / Zaeed / Thane
Tier 5: Javik / Miranda / Ashley
Tier 6: Kasumi / Kaiden / James
Tier 7: Morinth
Tier 8: Jacob
Did not finish Andromeda, but most of them would have been in Tier 4 and 5, with one notable exception. Jacob would still be alone in tier 8 though.
Tali / Liara / Garrus are always Tier 1.
Drack would be at tier 3 easily, possibly 2.
@@Ariana321 yeah, but krogans are nerfed because they' re too much epic

Jacob at 23 really, he is honestly the worst character I have to resist sending him into vents in the suicide mission

Wow I did not expect 50 likes on this comment, thanks everyone
Vega was way better than Liam, Cora and Jacob
ehh
They all kinda sucked
Speaking of Vega. I like the moments where you ask him to perform some technical assignments on some missions. He tells you upfront that he doesnt know shit about tech but he is willing to try, then procedes to just kick or break the thing. Its kind of funny. That alone puts him above The 3 you mentioned.
Thats my oppinion atleast. He can be funny in many situations just playing stupid. Cant say that about Jacob.
I haven’t played Andromeda, but Jacob is easily better than Vega.
James vega pissed me off acting like he's hot shit but compared to the entire ME cast he's done nothing of note. Imo James should have been like Jenkins a soldier who looks up to shepherd
Can't believe the Shadow Broker was ranked that low! GASP
How do you not like Party Vega? He's at least better then Jacob 😂
James is much better than Jacob. Jacob and Liam are, by far, the worst squadmates in all of the Mass Effect games!
I hota agree with I never played my freind say its a better game then gta V Garbage
Im impress with Amdramada
I would’ve put Vega ahead of both Jacob AND Liam. His only downside is that he’s a meathead soldier who fits in with the Krogan
James is at least funny. Jacob is so boring. James is literally the only reason for saving Ashley since they hook up at the citadel party.

Thane Krios is by far my most favorite character. There is something about him, that simply makes you like him.

He really can take a hit
It was common to see him pull aggro and fighting brutes marauders and banshees by himself and somehow come out on top during my insanity playthrough
I’m not the biggest Vega fan but I certainly wouldn’t have put him dead last
Yeah, dude can tank.
Garrus is #1 and that's a cold hard irrefutable fact.
Gay.
Truth
They should rename the game to: "Legend of Garrus, Feat: Commander Shepard."
@@Rulerradver I wouldn’t be opposed to a spin-off with Garrus
I agree, on so much criteria is he so good.
In all three games he has the most versatile weapon set, with some great abilities. Can actually be kitted out to be a trainwrecker, much easier and better than most others.
And personally, he's got the brocharm for days.
I like Thane... but my dude is way too anime edgy to beat the rest. Gotta be Garrus, Tali, or my man MORDIN.
Liara and Wrex too, they’re S-teir by far just like them

It's amazing to see how everyone has a different perspective and their own reasoning for the ranking of the Mass Effect's characters.
It shows how each of us had a unique experience playing this game.
That´s really what Mass Effect is all about, there is no right/wrong way of playing the story, who you like, who you romance .... it´s different for all of us.
Yeah, some surprises here and not the list I would have chosen. So since we're ranking here's my opinion on the correct order:
Well done, Sir.
Am i missing something? Peebee? Vetra? Where did i miss all these squad-mates?

Surprised you ranked Kaiden so low. Kaiden is absolutely OP in ME1 on insanity
He's one of the weakest and squishiest, I dont know if you put it on Narrative and thought you play insanity or what BUT only Garrus and Tali (only early game) are worst that him.
@@Dark_Voice nope, you couldn’t be more wrong. He’s the best. Micromanage his power usage and he’s unstoppable.

It's not about their quality in battle.
Not Kaiden being that low💀✋
This is literally a personal list since Jacob isn't the last one
Did my boy James dirty with this one.
If I remember right. If you go to Tuchunka with Mordin or Grunt. They'll almost call Morinth out if you go by a medical tent
@@somerandomguy6767 I'm not sure tbh. I was told this second hand. Morinth has never survived encountering shepard in my playthroughs
Cool, lemme just ignore my duty and join you👍"
She also pulls a gun on you, that warrants a bullet.
Forealll 🤣 i almost regretted letting her back aboard
@@carrinanorth4224 that's actually a good point. But also considering ME 1 showing a sneak peak of how messed up Cerberus experiments were it only make sense that they thought Shepard wasn't the real Shepard that they'd once called Commander.
Idk about Ashley since i could never sacrifice Kaidan for her, but Kaidan in ME3 wasn't disrespectful, just somewhat doubtful, plus during the Mars, Kaidan actually laughed when Shepard called him stubborn. I assume Ashley is like this also(?)
For someone who have experienced saving Ashley and Kaidan in their playthroughs, were their tone the same?

@@rockmcdwayne1710 Wrex should've been higher, that's for sure. We couldn't ask for a better character to be our introduction to the Krogan race.
Garrus is also my #1 man byyy faarrrr
Dude put Liara below her cheap knock-off.

There was a lot of potential in that, but they screwed it up.
Now all she can yatt about is being an "Asari Huntress."

of the two with *Legion* once he joined.
In ME3, I was more specific on who I had chosen:
-Garrus is a must since he's the only regular squadmate that's been with
you since ME1. But bringing him with either Liara or Kaidan (yes, I let Ashley die) is a treat
when you encounter Wrex and Tali.
-Same goes when bringing Garrus and EDI on missions involving former
squadmates in ME2 like Tali, Zaeed, Grunt, Jacob, Jack, Samara, Mordin,
Kasumi, Legion and Miranda. It's funny seeing when they realize who EDI
is.
-I loved bringing Javik for his blunt nature, and how others would react
to seeing a Prothean.
Apart from Ashley in ME1 (who I eventually sacrificed to save my lover), Tali and James
were the only two squadmates I never brought whenever the choice was
given to me:
From the get go, I despised James. The Leviathan DLC was one of my
favorites, but it had ONE "minor" setback: the fact that Vega just
barges in mid-mission and is shoehorned as a squadmate... and Tali was
too much of an annoying crybaby, so I never chose her.
cultured romancing Kaiden
All this list has confirmed is this guy doesn't know mass effect as well as he thinks he does.
This list was invalid the second peepee was listed higher than 20
Peepee!! Ololololo you killing me xD
Wait, Jacob better than Vega? No way mate. Jacob is soooooo boring he is only useful to put in the vent
This has to be the worst list I've seen. Jacob not bottom, Liara and Wrex far too low, Garrus robbed out of #1.
sadly we can't see the ratio
Hahaha
tali freaking carried me in me1. ranked up shields and shotguns and my home girl was clearing merc outposts for me while i hid by the door. my team in me1 was kaidan for medics, electronics and decoding and tali for the actual warfare.
i would clasify them in tiers instead of lists
tier 1 tali, garrus and edi
tier 2 kaidan, miranda, wrex, mordin, thane, samara.
tier 3 jack, legion (underdeveloped, could be much more), kasumi, grunt, zaeed
tier 4 morinth, james, jacob, ashley (ew)
i didnt include liara because there is no contest, her plot relevance is equal to or even higher than that of shepard himself so she is more of the second protagonist than a squadmate
Tier 1: Garrus/Mordin
Tier 2: Kaiden / Zaeed / Liara
Tier 3: Tali / Jack / Legion
Tier 4: Wrex / Thane / Grunt
Tier 5: Ashley / Miranda
Tier 6: EDI / James / Samara / Kasumi
Tier 7: Jacob
James is miles better than Jacob💀
James at #26?
Throw the list away from the jump
Sometimes I don't understand what he's saying
Sigh, more comments about "space racist."
This list gave me cancer and killed me before I even finished watching it
On my legendary run I actually saved kaiden. First time for it.
Same. But he's not very impressive in 3. He kind of just.... exists
@@GhostGamer420 maybe try romancing him, it's even more interesting as a male Shep.
I think I only saved him so I didn't have to hear Ashley whine about not getting picked for missions in subsequent games. ;)
S Tier: Garrus, Ashley, Leigon (Sniper Rifle Gang)
A Tier: Grunt, Wrex, Zaeed
B+ Tier: Mordin, Samara, Javik
B Tier: Tali, Thane, Liara
C Tier: James, Kasumi, Jack
D Tier: EDI, Jacob
F Tier: Kaidan, Miranda
Garrus is almost the most useful squadmate in gameplay in almost every game (he's barely beaten by Legion in 2) and is the ultimate homie.
I won't lie, I saved kaiden
(except for the Andromeda ones and Jack, she is just anoying.....)
But i put Grunt on number 1, because he is just the biggest enrichment in/for the Citadel DLC!
i meant just compare them all to other Games Companions, like Fallout for example....
Vega the worst ? Really really stopped right there..
This video ranking the characters was very well made
so saving kaiden this time
also both him and ashley are kind of interchangeable
Yep. Generic to a fault
@@SH-qs7ee yeah just cuz they have different back story don't make them not Interchangeable
They both for the most part play a Similar role
EDi must get a better rank for sure
Ya I might v let that pass if she was just still the ships ai lol
This entire list is quite bs. If you didnt know which position was EDI on this list, you would think she is somewhere close to the top because you literally say nothing wrong about her. THere is no justification for why some characters are above others and it feels really random. From 16th place you have no weaknesses pretty much. Hell Ashley seems to be worse than EDI based on your description why.
Yeah, and EDI is the funniest character by far!
I'm not sure how people think Vetra is like Garrus, beyond being Turian.
one of the coolest features of legion are his little flaps that extend and move around when hes talking.
its so damn adorable and i love him for that
No one ever remembers Jenkins, poor Jenkins 😥
Jokers not just good, he's extraordinary
22:18 The way she gives a hard stare at Jacob after his sarcasm when you recruit her.
Bruh at least James didnt betray you just like that he was just looking like that I mean comeon do him some Justice..
I mean I liked James he was a guy who suffers from survivors guilt and who was willing to die to keep everyone alive
My top 5
1 - Tali'Zorah (I just love her contrast of shyness, feisty, sarcastic, flirty)
2 - Garrus Vakarian (best bro nuff said.)
3 - Legion ( my robot-friend)
4 - Wrex (best Uncle with many presents)
5- Mordin ( My favorite doctor, singer and... *cough* sexual consultant *cough*)
I can tell by the picture but honestly have u tried getting with garrus omg it's great 👍👌
Garrus is the best romance option for femshep, he'll let the galaxy know it.
Switch places with Peebee with Liara at least
For James there is a movie surrounding him before he joined up with Shepard. It gives a nice background for him which would be the only reason he’s higher up on the list.
Idk about thane being #1 but reading his last prayer with his son in me3 just to find out it’s for you and not him really sold me on his character as a whole
