The Castille case really is completely fucked up. A recording of the officer was released after the cop was found not guilty where he was borderline bragging that he didnt even see a gun.
When you declare you have a gun in the car and state that you need to take it out (for whatever reason) and the cop tells you to stop then you STOP. It's a sad situation, Castille should be alive and well, but to not follow a simple instruction like that still confuses me.
@@NOTJpOp4LiFe it wasn't a simple instruction. The cop asked him to provide his license and registration. That's what he was "reaching" for, not his firearm.
When did he say he was going to take out the gun? Which part of the 40 second interaction, exactly, did he inform the officer that he was reaching for and pulling out his gun? In the 13 second that elapsed between the officer saying "don't pull it out" and both he and his gf saying he was only reaching for the ID that was asked for, can you show/tell me where he said he wanted to or was taking out the gun???
@@NOTJpOp4LiFe In his state you actually dont have to tell the officer that you have a gun in the car, he went above what his own state required. He also wasnt reaching for his gun, he was grabbing out his wallet. The officer demanded he stop reaching and he did and said he wasnt reaching for his gun. The cop escalated it and fired into the car. The cop has zero excuse whatsoever. I have followed many cases of black men being shot in their cars, this one was the most appalling and the most eye opening.
Adam became a leftist. And when is Adam going to talk about the fact that most ilegal shooting was done by the people of color.Fact.Ouu grow up, you were checked by the police.
I liked this episode because it didn't go down the easy route of having Adam just giving his position on gun control and saying why the other side is wrong. This segment in particular I really enjoyed, because without taking any sides, it highlights the fact that regardless of whether or not you support gun control, you need to take into account how black people are affected by the issue.
I’ll admit that I was pro-control before watching. While I still am, my stance after watching has changed from just “regulate firearms” to “address the social issues that cause these problems.”
I highly question his information as he is biased. It's real easy to cherry pick what you persent as what is true and what is not true. I do admit on the face of it he was not looking as if he was being biased agenst pro guns.
That Philando Castile re-enactment at the end was very well done, that is word for word exactly how it happened. I am white, and I have a license to carry, and I have been stopped dozens of times by police and each and every time I have informed them I had a gun and in fact sometimes I even got in arguments and debates with the police when they pulled me over, yet I was never under threat of fire. Philando Castile did exactly what he was supposed to, to the T, even better than me to be honest, yet he was still killed. I think the word racist triggers people and turns their mind off from critical thinking, so I hate using it. But if you don't think that as a collective society we have to re-evaluate our own ingrained sterotypes then you just aren't thinking. It is clear as day that their is a problem with how minorities are viewed and treated in this country. That isn't to say every cop is a hood wearing racist, but it is to say that being Black or Hispanic in America means people will have a label for you before they even speak to you and we all have to acknowledge that, it's human nature. I am an old man turning 59 next year, teenagers scare the piss out of me. If I see a group of kids walking toward me I get on edge sometimes because of the stories I hear about gangs and robberies. So i tend to avoid them or be on guard around groups of teens. That doesn't mean I hate teenagers and I'm ageist. I am sure 99% of those kids that scare me are wonderful nice people, but all human's label other people it is instinct and how the brain works to identify danger even if there is none. The problem comes when people aren't trained to control that fear, and that is the problem with police these days, they are all too scared and no one has trained them on how to control their fear
Thank you for taking the time out to post this, I enjoyed reading this. I'm younger (20) but it was really refreshing to see someone older also feel pretty similar about re-evaluating our current society. A lot of people online my age like to use hateful speech (racial slurs, especially the n word) with the intent of shock humor instead of racial stigma, especially in video games. it's offensive, tiring, and even overused yet I don't think these people realize the weight of what they're saying and that's where I find a lot of trouble working through. If you call them racist they will say they're only being funny, but no one is laughing.
Lord Lu Bu This isn’t really a useful response, but SciShow posted a great video about Juvenoia that I thought was really interesting, and you might like too.
The problem I have with some of the arguments about the Castile case is that we don't have a view into the car as it happened. The officer beleived that the man was reaching for something, and didn't stop after he told him not to move for it. If that was the case- then the man certainly wasnt doing what he was supposed to.
They didn’t do that right at 5:00 It typically goes like this: Cop: “do you have your license and registration” Black: “yes sir, I do” Cop: “please get it for me” Black: *reaches for license and registration* Cop: *BANG* “I thought he was reaching for a gun”
Incorrect. The problem is that police officers are in a situation where its risky to take the chance. If you tell me you have a gun or even look like you might be carrying im gonna ask you to keep your hands where i can see them. every week an officer is killed in a routine traffic stop and its horrible but at the end of the day the officer is looking to make sure he goes home to his family. Im not gonna chance you having a gun. and the video was misinformative in terms of felando castille. He informed the cop after his hands were going to reach for his license so the cop panicked. it was a bad situation and its unfourtonate it happend but i side with the cops on this one.
Tigger Anakalea that comment was dumb the cop was scared from the jump. A trained officer who had a gun on him from when he asked for his license and registration. That makes sense to you? By law you took an oath to Protect and Serve, you’re trained to analyze a situation how is it that you’re shaking and fearing for your life more than I am? That doesn’t make sense. The problem is it takes 6 months to become an officer, they give anyone with a clean record the job. Because all they care about is numbers. That doesn’t make sense to me 6 months when it takes 4 years to get a cosmetology license. That makes sense?
@@blessed7817 Well considering they have 6 months of training we have a shockingly low amount of shootings no? In a population of almost 300 million only 660 were killed by police officers. Considering we have one of the largest criminal population on earth thats pretty good. These incidents while horrible are standouts and carry little importance. Im not saying to ignore it im just saying to think and see another angle. Hes shaking because there are people who shoot cops and because there is no good place to stand when approaching a car that matches a description of one that has a gun in it. There are kinks but its going fine statistically. Basically cops are statistacally better than average, doing a good job, and when they are in bad situation bad things happen occasionally. Yall acting like this cop shot castille for no reason.
Actually, if you’ve seen the camera footage, you’ll have seen that the suspect struggled for an item. Whether it was a gun or his ID is unknown, however the suspect was ordered several times to stop reaching for it, before the suspect was then shot. Fearing for his life, the officer, who believed the suspect was reaching for a gun, shot the suspect.
Rad The Cop So, in your world, the excuse for literally killing someone is because a police officer, someone who is supposed to be trained to deal with a stressful and physical confrontation, thought a person was possibly reaching for what could be a gun? Do police not hold any higher standards?
Long story short I have to protect myself and someone else from being attack by three people. Cop took 15mins to respond when they got there one cop told me not to have a loaded gun around him and I look at the other cops asked him if he's serious? Yep cops do have a issue with law-abiding black citizens.

Well those guys are idiots. You have a right to have your gun and use it to keep yourself safe from violence and a tyrannical government! You keep that gun!

More needs to be done to hold people who think they're above the system, and corrupt/feckless/activist judges accountable. Gun control is definitely oppressive though, whether proponents realize it or not, and it actually harms people who tend to be defending themselves from people of lower class status, so that would seem to be the opposite of what you claim, though, ultimately, it's allowed by people in power who fear an armed populace, but I don't think it can all be blamed on class.

NRA supported the Mulford Act in 1967, which affected black gun owners largely in CA, exclusively the BPP. One reason I won't support the NRA as well as they have left their overall constituency to fend for themselves while anti-gun opportunistic politicians work overtime to strip away 2A rights from the law-abiding by exploiting tragedies where some lone person with ill intent decides to take lives at will. This usually happens in largely gun-free spaces.
In my opinion the second amendment would only make sense if the US had a compulsory military service like in Switzerland, all citizens serve in the military and everyone gets to keep their standard issued rifle after the service. The only oroblem with a system like that is that corporations wouldn't be able to use the military as their private tool for their goals.
The NRA was a rifle organization prior to 1973. The NRA could not lobby anyone or anything prior to that. In 1973, the NRA created Institute for Legislative Action, the ILA. That allowed the ILA to lobby in Washington. Don't get your information from non-members. They aren't invited to the party.
Rookie Eyes No, if anything that implies the officer thought he wasn't reaching for his wallet at all. But regardless, like I said in my comment Castile already handed over his information. That part is clear as day on camera and there's no dispute there. Thats the first thing that happens prior to Castile informing him he's armed. And not many people think Castile was trying to out draw the cop, thats not the argument at all. It's more of a matter of Castile not understanding he shouldn't reach for anything after informing him he's armed. Its Castile failing to understand gun saftey, and common sense, not malicious intent.

It doesn't because it's not meant to. The title of the show may be a little silly but the content within the show just wants to teach you about the intricacies of everyday life.
It ruins the underlying argument that gun rights are for everyone and the NRA protects all gun rights equally. If the NRA had its way only republicans would have guns and white republicans at that. That incident went more like Cop) licence and registration Guy) okay but I have a fire arm Cop) okay dont reach for it Guy) I wont Cop) now let's see your ID Guy) (reaches for wallet) Cop) BANG I told you not to reach for your weapon
Look. I know what you're trying to say, but the officer didn't say to reach for their ID after that. He was repeatly telling the man not to move his hands. If you reach for your id while someone is telling you not to- then you're at fault.
The incident was all about a cop who was poorly trained and panicked. Our law enforcement needs better training, this tragedy could have been utterly avoided if the officer had chosen his words more carefully and handled the situation more calmly. I really do not like how the video, as a conversation about race, did not mention the race of the officer. To the uninformed viewer, they automatically think it was black vs white violence. The officer was Hispanic. His lawyer was white but has a history of defending people of color, including a man who opened fire on law enforcement who had entered his home without announcing themselves. He won that case, too.

I'm amazed at how few comments have pointed out that this section of the show has virtually nothing to do with gun control laws, and instead just goes to highlight how tyranical, racist, and autoritarian US police and courts are with enforcing laws
The newer comments are terrible. People are literally saying that black people are less likely to be targets of police brutality in the USA. Are you insane?
I'm tired of hearing the argument that its not someone's job to educate, because they are the most affected by the issue. If you understand the problem, can back it up with experience, and you run into someone who is dangerously ignorant on the subject, in that moment you can choose to either succeed or fail to help. Debates are not best settled when oppressed minorities are asked to take a back seat and let the blind majority lead the blind to resolve inequality.
I think, at that point, you must then ask yourself this: Is the stress and strain of confronting those who perpetuate the problem more painful than the problem itself? In this case, is the inconvenience of potentially engaging someone who issues abrasive, fallible arguments the greater agony to racism and preventable, common, and violent deaths? My ultimate question is this: Is this a problem in which you can wait for someone else to solve it for you? If this is affecting you personally, or affecting personally loved ones around you, is it not a great enough issue that you can just wait and hope that another person will fix this for you? Don't get me wrong, in this particular fight there are plenty of allies of every color and creed, but even within that group there are those who genuinely don't grasp this plight well enough to aid as effectively as they could, if only someone would stop to speak to them for a few minutes.
I do think it's unfair to simply say "She shouldn't have to tell you". SOMEONE has to tell you, society certainly isn't encouraging you to look into it, and especially in the case of a spouse or friend, someone you feel safe with, as long as they're open you should be able to share their perspective and experience. You also have to take into account that the likelihood of the problem being solved in the lifetime of someone who is currently alive is minuscule. Asking them to go out of their way to educate others when they'll never see the individual payout is a lot to ask too, especially when they have to do so so often. I do think that for friends and spouse they always should, but I imagine that talking to someone you know and love about something personal and not having them understand or deny your experience would be all the more painful. Regardless these things would be best as team effort, other races should look into issues themselves rather than expecting those persecuted to always educate them, and since it's affecting them, those persecuted should also be encouraged to speak up, especially when in a safe space, or at the very least, they shouldn't be encouraged to stay quiet because it isn't their responsibility. Everyone staying quiet doesn't solve anything.
I was just reminded of that one scene in the Mr. Bean Movie (the one featuring the art gallery) where, on the way out of the airport, Mr. Bean makes a finger gun and pretends to tuck it into his pocket, gets noticed by the cops, starts acting suspicious, and then the whole airport goes insane thinking he's armed with a loaded firearm and he's just like "What's going on? But I think because of the way our legal system is skewed against people to such a degree, trying to help others is more hassle than it’s worth, and even if it’s just you, and you do live, you’re likely to be the one to go to prison..... for self defense, or simply wanting to protect yourself and your property. It is just mindblowing at how many people don’t think we should have those rights.
Stand your ground eliminates the duty to retreat. In other words, it used to be considered unjustified use of deadly force if you shot a person when you could have safely escaped the situation whereas now you are justified to shoot so long as you feel your life is in danger. It sounds ok on paper but it creates a lot of situations where self-appointed vigilantes take it upon themselves to open fire in crowded places to stop a shoplifter or something like that. Also, it allows people to put their own pride above others lives in that it allows people to shoot even when they had the chance to just get away.
@@Medowokha-bp5lq All I did was explain how Stand Your Ground laws lower the legal bar for the use of lethal force which in turn leads to situations where shots are fired when violence could have reasonably been avoided. This broadening the scope of what is considered self defense is literally the intent of the law. Saying so is neither fear mongering nor malicious.

The Castille case really is completely fucked up. A recording of the officer was released after the cop was found not guilty where he was borderline bragging that he didnt even see a gun.
Jebus Chrust citation needed
True
I honestly couldn't have said it better myself. It's refreshing to see it's not just my generation that thinks this way.
Thank you. All of you so much
Lord Lu Bu This isn’t really a useful response, but SciShow posted a great video about Juvenoia that I thought was really interesting, and you might like too.
The problem I have with some of the arguments about the Castile case is that we don't have a view into the car as it happened. The officer beleived that the man was reaching for something, and didn't stop after he told him not to move for it. If that was the case- then the man certainly wasnt doing what he was supposed to.

Cop: “please get it for me”
Black: *reaches for license and registration*
Cop: *BANG* “I thought he was reaching for a gun”
Tigger Anakalea oh lord 🤦🏽♂️
*A person who can’t take a joke has entered the chat*

@@Prince_Luci I mean, we don't know for sure he was murdered, though it seems to be the case. That aside, just because you're rich doesn't mean you're going to get away with breaking laws. It has more to do with who you know, so I'd say it's a matter of individual instances of corruption/nepotism, not some overarching, generalized classism.

Nobody left "black people" out of the gun debate. The whole header is racist and here is why.
People who choose to stay uneducated about some things or are ignorant about it but they aren't all black. A debate about rather gun laws effect black people isn't a good debate at all. The debate should be about rather uneducated people are more likely to brake the law and or carry a unregistered firearm. Adding race is trying to bait the topic to suit the community or culture and politics. The gun debate is open to all and every perspective to help the scope of the laws and protect the people who abide by them. By stating black people are left out of the debate is to say that black lives essentially don't matter which is a false narrative wielded by the left to make a blanket statement to frame liberals and conservatives right leaners as racist.

Look. I know what you're trying to say, but the officer didn't say to reach for their ID after that. He was repeatly telling the man not to move his hands. If you reach for your id while someone is telling you not to- then you're at fault.
@@JackTheFoxVA It's from another video, look up "groundhog day for a black man"
The incident was all about a cop who was poorly trained and panicked.
@@legoluvver I can agree with you there. the full video shows the cop more or less having a panic attack after the shots were fired. You can tell that he acted in the heat of the moment because he was afraid. If he was able to keep control of the situation better- things may have gone differently.
@@legoluvver He had no reason to be panicked. If he needs special training not to murder people for reaching for their ID then maybe he's too jumpy to be on the police force in the first place.

Exactly, it's like some people complain about the subject even though they can very easily help prevent it but choose not to
I do think it's unfair to simply say "She shouldn't have to tell you".

Which I do think a person should have a right to defend themselves or others, anywhere at anytime.
Or defending your property.
I dont think so. It varys per state but im pretty sure stand your ground only covers ur home, car, and in oklahoma, your church
