People are just so used to GW st--borrowing heavily from other sources that it's natural for Cody to make that assumption. So I went back to 4th edition, it mentions him but just a small blurb about Norse from Skeggi finding him and then him forming the Vampire Coast in the Undead. A Drako Harkon is mentioned in 2001 Vampire Counts 6th edition but the full "lore" I'm seeing IS from that White Dwarf in 2005. Open to being disproven.

Most pirates started out as outcasts, vagabonds or merchants before choosing the life at sea and even women were welcome as part of the crew or even captains on equal terms. The history of pirates is a really interesting one

Y'all are severely underestimating how much skill it takes to sail a ship. Not to mention he has to micromanage most of these tasks because most of his crew consists of brain-dead fish fodder. He's nowhere near qualified not to mention the biggest flaw, he's a ducking vampire in need of a constant supply of fresh blood, which newsflash, is not plentiful on the high seas. Basically there's a very good reason this is a niche character in a niche publication of a niche magazine.

Aranessa would be interesting. A living pirate and her living pirate crew in a faction of bloodsucking vampires. Why? ...well her dad got her some undead crewmembers for her sweet 16. Who is her dad? Well he is Manaan, God of the Sea. Which makes Aranessa a very strange member of a VAMPIRE faction... being a demi-goddess.
Manaan isn't Aranessa's real father though, more like her adopted dad. However, ever since I started playing with her I can't shake the impression that she's basically some spoiled rich daddy's girl and I love it.
That was a really lazy move on part of CA. It also decreased chances of southern realms appearing. I wish we could get one more actual vampire pirate, or at least some freaky mutated captain, something like davy jones. I wonder how many people played aranessa and cylostra vs luthor and noctilus

I really like both... I really dont like the war missions of Noctilus but other than that I think the Vampire Coast togheter with Tomb Kings are some of the best content in the game. Then again I really enjoy the undead... its just so rare having necromancy actually be necromancy in games... summoning armies of skeletons, zombies and such. In most games its just oh you get 2 skeletons or a flesh golem.

Maybe everyone knows, but relations with Luthor are so shaky. One turn he loves you and the next turn he could prepare to come to your house with some dead mfs. Its a great detail that helps make him seem crazy.
Funnily enough my Harkon campaign had me raid all of the Nehekharan coast in a niave attempt to keep Arkhan the Black alive before bee lining to the great pyramid for 8ts bonuses. There Luther harken stayed for eternity as endless high elf armies kept trying to assault it or the Vampire Coast defended by the only other army I could afford.... The biggest problem with Vampire Coast is they instinctively feel like you should play like a hoard faction on the seas but end up defending whatever territory you own on land.
Hey I dont know if anyone else has pointed this out but I was under the impression that The Blood Dragon Line that hes from cant actually use the winds of magic, and he was trying to overcome that using slan tech.
Empire Total War is my second favourite, only problem with it was that I couldnt kill elves in it. Sure there's the French, but its not the same as sending a volley of lead into some pointy ear.

The main reason vampire pirated dosent make sense is that they would just have to let the shift drift during the day. Line it up the best you can, and hope the wind dosent change during the day I guess. It gets even worse when you consider that they could find themselves without blood for huge amounts of time if they don't find any ships; which is super likely because he can only sail half the day. All people would have to do is not sail through where he is at night, it would be pretty easy to just get huge headstarts and put run them. One pro of vampirates: They dont get scurvy. At least I assume they don't. Maybe they would if the people they fed on had scurvy, because where else would they get vitamin c? The scurvy thing has no created a hilarious headcannon for me: They capture people from ships, and force feed them oranges and limes for days before eating them. "Eat the damn lime already so I can eat you!"

Maybe everyone knows, but relations with Luthor are so shaky. One turn he loves you and the next turn he could prepare to come to your house with some dead mfs. Its a great detail that helps make him seem crazy.

Funnily enough my Harkon campaign had me raid all of the Nehekharan coast in a niave attempt to keep Arkhan the Black alive before bee lining to the great pyramid for 8ts bonuses. There Luther harken stayed for eternity as endless high elf armies kept trying to assault it or the Vampire Coast defended by the only other army I could afford....
The biggest problem with Vampire Coast is they instinctively feel like you should play like a hoard faction on the seas but end up defending whatever territory you own on land.

Hey I dont know if anyone else has pointed this out but I was under the impression that The Blood Dragon Line that hes from cant actually use the winds of magic, and he was trying to overcome that using slan tech.
First I've heard of that. I got the implication that he had magical abilities and lost them. It would make sense though.
They can use magic just prefers more personal approach when it comes to a fight like their primogenetor.

Empire Total War is my second favourite, only problem with it was that I couldnt kill elves in it. Sure there's the French, but its not the same as sending a volley of lead into some pointy ear.

The main reason vampire pirated dosent make sense is that they would just have to let the shift drift during the day. Line it up the best you can, and hope the wind dosent change during the day I guess. It gets even worse when you consider that they could find themselves without blood for huge amounts of time if they don't find any ships; which is super likely because he can only sail half the day. All people would have to do is not sail through where he is at night, it would be pretty easy to just get huge headstarts and put run them.
One pro of vampirates: They dont get scurvy. At least I assume they don't. Maybe they would if the people they fed on had scurvy, because where else would they get vitamin c?
The scurvy thing has no created a hilarious headcannon for me: They capture people from ships, and force feed them oranges and limes for days before eating them. "Eat the damn lime already so I can eat you!"
