Thats probably a part of a devious plan thought up by Nintendo with support from From. Get Dark Souls, get pissed when you die the 7th time by Capra, toss the console into the toilet, go buy a new one, give more money to Nintendo, rinse and repeat.
Dude do you know how much they would have to downgrade that thing just to get it to run on a Switch? lol. I mean the tiger's sounds alone were professionally made... With real tigers! And that wind blowing effect was made by real wind! Not someone blowing in the mic! That's some quality shit there you don't want to see go down.
I don't get why Nintendo doesn't port Mario Maker. I mean, if there's anything that deserves a port, it's that. Plus, they can throw in a bunch of popular levels from online and it'll introduce a lot of new creative minds to the game. There's really no reason not to. If anything, it should have been there at launch. Mario Maker would've been perfect during that time where after you were done with Zelda, there was fuckall to play.
The Switch doesn't have a stylus. So creating levels would probably be a nightmare. But if they're smart they will figure it out. And maybe even port over the top 100 or so levels from the community.
...But the Switch screen is a touch screen. And The World Ends With You still has the touch-screen option. You don't NEED it with TWEWY since they have a pure Joycon option (thank fuck because while I wanna play it that shit is tricky to figure out starting out), but it's there.
Slow down dude. You don't port everything at once. Porting all the games over the next 4-5 years while releasing new games will make the Switch always have something interesting waiting around the corner for everyone except WiiU owner. And while that kinda sucks for them, it is a good thing for everyone else who missed out on the WiiU. There is no reason to port everything at once.
I didn’t play it on 3DS but Miiverse was sorta integrated into the Wii U for comments and such, semi-important I believe in certain aspects. Could be wrong though. Notice they only announced games up to May. There’s still June and beyond for them to announce stuff.
I'm fine with ports, as long as they're not a notable drop in quality from the original console and they aren't locked behind a paywall that's $60, shaped like Call of Duty and have extra microtransactions hacking the game's corpse up.
which is why Hyrule Warriors with ALL maps and 40$ worth of DLC included for free is a great idea. Yes Street Fighter is doing the same shit but we're talking different consoles so it's good for those who played the original AND newcomers
Another big issue, especially considering the 60 dollar price tag (let's be real, a lot of them are gonna be full price) , it's a real dick move to people who don't have a lot of expendable income. A lot of people save up for new consoles, or even sell the older ones to help with buying them. Having to pay 60 dollars again for a game you already own, that also costs 60 dollars is a huge pain.
Honestly I hope every single game that was on the Wii U gets ported to Switch since nobody owned a Wii U and a vast majority of the games on that console were FANTASTIC
Avossk Honestly almost every WiiU game either has been ported to 3DS or Switch, or gotten a sequel. The only ones from the top of my head that are still entirely WiiU exclusive are Pikmin 3, Star Fox Zero Super Mario 3D World.
I never got the hatred for ports. People do realize that there are new gamers growing up all the time and not every release is supposed to be tailored to the people who bought the game the first time around, right?
not every wii u owner with a switch. i want all of the games i own on wii u ported over so i can get rid of the damned thing. as soon as i hear a smash and mario maker port, thats my wii u done for.
Can't complain about ports. At least it's nothing like the PS4 and Xbone launch, just remaster after remaster of games that were on last gen consoles. Now that was painful.
the belief is that it takes dev time away from new games and people want new games and not ones they already played. I don't agree with this btw, that's just the logic behind it.
I remember a time where the ps4 was called the port station 4 and sometimes (even today) the indie station 4. It takes time to create quality games those who are whining are just idiotic fanboys who probably buy rushed out games with dlcs and preorder bonuses then complain about the shit they receive... *sigh*
you are forgetting an small issue there. The real issue with ps4 wasnt that there were ports, the real issue was that aside from bloodborne, all the EXCLUSIVES that were any good were ports. you had the uncharteds, the god of war 3, the last of us... ports were never the issue unless you were a purist and "mah original version", the issue was that there were only ports... And before anyone comments, this isnt the case anymore, the PS4 at this time is 100% worth buying if you have a PC already because of many of its exclusive titles(Uncharted 4, horizon, bloodborne, gravity rush 2, the last guardian, persona 5 is and isnt, but c'mon,...)
Seems like most of the Wii U's best games have been ported to Switch. Mario Kart 8, Splatoon (2), Bayonetta... Nothing really wrong with ports if you never played the games before.
Personally, I never bothered with Pokken Tournament or Hyrule Warriors and I've always wanted to try out the Dark Souls trilogy, so I'm quite happy with those. And TWEWY in HD with extra content is also a win in my book.
Plus one of Nintendo's biggest failings in the past is a lack of backwards compatibility (barring Wii to Wii U, and handhelds sometimes being useable within a generation) and people not being able to play their fave games from previous generations on new systems. Ports partly fix that. Nintendo has tons of fabulous games and it's been good in recent years to see them coming up with ways to legally re-release them via virtual console and ports to new systems.
Hyrule Warriors was awesome. I think the only game I got as much postgame value out of was Pokemon Conquest. Very happy about the port, I will be getting that as soon as it's out.
TheVideoGameManiac for me they need the last 2 wiiu games in my very small collrction then i can keep my wiiu as just a wii machine and for wind waker hd.
Who the hell thinks ports are a bad thing? Last time I checked, people were asking for them. Because being able to play a game is better than not having the ability to do so. It's shitty ports people don't like.
BigHailFan Are they really haters though? Kinda wasted money on the wii U. You can't tell me that if everyone knew that every game would be ported to their next console, nobody would buy it. In a general sense, it is kinda shallow to be upset, but it still is a valid argument.
BigHailFan How many ports have you seen on PS4 in comparison to The Switch? Now how many of those were first party? I can name like 4, while it's half of the Switch's lineup. Yeah, no, that comparison helps nobody. People feel like they've been abandoned, which is arguably justified. Whether or not it's true is the actual point of discussion. I don't think it's true but completely disregarding the opinions of those upset because you thought the console was shit is a not the way of going about it. Nintendo easily could have easily sold these at a discounted price for Wii U owners. The Wii U flopped but they were still filthy rich. It's not a lack of logic, it's a lack of understanding of the situation. I have a Switch, and so does my cousin, who owned a Wii U. He's fine with ports, the Wii U sold poorly but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel like Nintendo is giving him the finger for sticking his neck out. Should they stop porting games? No. If anyone outright says that they are being selfish. Same with port begging. "This would be perfect for switch!" is now a joke. But either way, the captain goes down with the ship. (You may the full context of this idiom so here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_captain_goes_down_with_the_ship )
BigHailFan *sell Oh I remember this! You're not really correct though. The PS4, at the time of it release, was supported *_along with_* the PS3 because Sony knows people don't just instantly jump ship. You can't really correlate dual system releases to ports in the sense they are on the Switch. That's painting a false narrative. Prototype 1 and 2 are ports on the PS4. The Jam and Daxter Collection is a port. Black Ops 3 isn't. Saying I'm hater because I'm voicing how I feel I got shafted is fanboyism at its finest. At least you could play Wii and Gamecube games on the Wii U.
I don’t care either way but I see their side. Rather than having developers spend time and money remaking old stuff they’d rather have them focus on new IPs. As much as I’m excited to play the dark souls port another part of me wishes the next bloodborne or fromsoft Ip was announced earlier. It’s a subject I’m personally conflicted in and don’t see taking a specific side anytime soon.
I think it depends. If a game that can be had for $30 nowadays on other platforms is going to be released for $60 on Switch, a la Skyrim, that's shit. If a contemporary game is released on all the consoles and the ports aren't noticibly inferior to other platforms (WWE 2K18 is shit on the Switch, for example) then there's no problem.
I just like that Nintendo is putting good WiiU games on the Switch. It gives the games a new chance at life, adds games to the Switch library, and also lets people like myself play a lot of WiiU games without ever having to buy a WiiU.
For instance, Mario Kart 8 is an incredible game and the switch port doubled its sales to a number that is closer to what the developers actaully deserve
minecraft, MK8, pokken, DK tropical freeze, captain toad and hyrrule warrior are all great Wii U games and even than it's only 6 port it's nothing compare to all brand new games on the switch. but still waiting for a xenoblade chronicle X port my favorite game
There's lots of ports, but what people don't seem to understand about them, is that even if they're ports, even without any software changes, the hardware being semi portable automatically makes the games have something new that most older versions didn't, and honestly makes it worth re-buying the games to me
yup. same here. I specifically held off from buying the 3ds version after the game had serious issues with running on original 3ds hardware and even though it ran okish, it was kinda bad looking on n3ds
TWEWY isn't even a typical port, it's a ten year old game and they're adding new content to it. Just let that sink in. I still have no interest in the game, *but* the fact that they're porting it to the Switch means there's a possibility of other DS games coming to the system. Imagine having the Advance Wars games ported to the Switch.
Ports on the Switch is indeed a good thing. Let's face it, many people didn't even have a WiiU in the last 5 years, and the sustem was littered with outstanding games. So porting it on the Switch will give games a second chance in life, and bring in more people to play!
I never owned a WiiU but a lot of my friends did, and I played with them countless times. While I did play a lot of the multiplayer games, I barely played any single player campaigns, and I didn't feel like buying the console solely for them, especially since it was already so easy for me to go to someone's place and play it with them. Therefore I'm incredibly happy that they're porting so many games to Switch, so that I can play them myself. And even on the go if needs must.
No. Since ports are low risk, testing the waters kinds of games. What matters is multi-plats and third party exclusives. Not a game from 6 years ago, with a slight bump in resolution.
Many of these games they are announcing, i did not have the chance to play it.... so is a good thing not only for me, but for people who missed some of those games before.
IncaWarrior3000 Agreed. If anything I was annoyed they that they chose to port Hyrule Warriors over Wind Waker HD or almost any other Nintendo game stranded on WiiU
ScarletFire848 That's probably intentional. They are not going to release games like Zelda remasters or Mario 3D World anywhere near Zelda BOTW and Mario Odyssey because most of their user-base are probably still playing those games and might completely ignore another Mario/Zelda game. It is smarter to spread them over time especially considering how much time Nintendo takes between mainline titles.
Cutter Elf A very valid point. I guess I'm just greedy. The Wii U is so worthless now that the switch exists and I hope they port over most of the big exclusives over the next few years because those games deserve better. Also, they need to get on that achievement system and then they're golden.
To be fair, I think that since the Wii U flopped really bad, it would only make sense to port their more popular titles from a dead console to the newer, more popular system.
Mystic Melody Game Cube sold poorly, the good games sold even worse that the WiiU AAA games. But not all the Game cube games were ported to the Wii to "be played for more people"
paco ramon You're logic would make sense if the wii didn't run gamecube games. But it quickly goes out the window when you realize the wii is backwards compatible therefore there no need to "port" anything. The re releases that came about were to capitalize on motion controls like the metroid prime trilogy did.
People seem to miss the fact that not a lot of people had a WiiU, so I welcome the ports. I have a feeling that a lot of the people complaining are those that have the WiiU and those games already.
Bitch please, they've had microtransactions for years now, the DS market was always riddled with it, it existed on the Wii and especially on the Wii U. People were crying about Animal Pocket Camp having it on phones as if they omitted the past idk 2-3 fucking Animal Crossing games from their memories with Amiibos and Amiibo cards which are themselves microtransactions. And you have that 3DS crane game that is literally just a microtransaction machine to get digital stickers, that is literally the fucking game, you pay real money to try to grab pixels.
P P with the exception of the last 3, nothing you mentioned was actually developed by Nintendo. It's also important to note that with the Nintendo DLC passes, they announced a clear release plan, letting consumers know exactly what they were getting and when, and in some cases, giving consumers the ability to buy dlc piecemeal as opposed to all at once. It also stands to mention that the dlc is hardly ever something that feels like it was removed from the main game; the games feel complete as is, without needing any season pass content. You really can't say that for a lot of other game publishers.
I'm personally hoping for a port of Xenoblade Chronicles X. It's a game I've been interested in since it launched, but I can't really justify buying a Wii U just for it.
MonoSoft said they'd look into it. Given they're probably focused on the DLC for 2 right now (yes it has that, that might've flown under everyone's radar), I doubt we'll see it soon. If I had to guess, next year. ...Not that I'll play it if they don't give us free roam co-op like I swore they were going to. YOU TOO, FF15.
That game is freaking amazing and the combat has a lot of depth and is very engaging. If you have a friend who owns a Wii U with that game you should really try it out. Who knows if they'll eventually port it to the Switch but it's worth playing it
I literally bought a Wii U for X lol. No regrets, one of the best consoles I've ever owned. Got BoTW, Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, Pokken (Little pissed they're not giving the switch characters to that one >_>), fk tons of indie games and virtual console versions of games I missed (Like I didn't get to play original Golden Sun, but I played the 2nd one, so I finally got the first half of the story).
agreed, but a bit too soon! the dev expressed interest in porting XCX, but at least give it a year before that happens. XC2 just came out so give it time to shine X ) also this is coming from someone who still has XCX.............. in the seal :") I KNOW the port will eventually happen and idk what to do with the game until then LOL
carruthers100 You mean the few people who bought a Wii U? Most people with a Switch didn't have a Wii U like me. The only Switch games I've already played are Skyrim and Doom.
I still cant get my head round of people who hate on PORTS ? its been there from the beginning in gaming , arcade ports to console ports started it all.
Arguing that it's been there from the beginning is a terrible argument, because it doesn't actually prove it's a good thing or not. You know what else was there from the beginning? Unfair game design made to get kids to spend as many coins as possible. Not saying I agree or disagree with ports, I just hate that argument in any context.
That's like saying murder is alright because people killed other people before civilization was even a thing lol. I agree with your point, but that's not a good argument to defend it.
So its okay to litter the switch With a decade old games and port of a game that release on a discontinued Platform? There is already people complaining on the sheer number Remastered and remake games on Ps4, but i kinda felt lenient on remake since there is an effort still put behind a remakes
I had to sell my WiiU a while back because I was broke and sold all my WiiU games too, so not having to buy a WiiU again to play Hyrule Warriors, and maybe a bunch of other titles, again is fine with me.
And just like you saidm not many people had a WiiU and some really good games were kinda wasted on it. Now if we could get some more PSVita ports on PS4.
The backlash against ports is understandable in theory. I mean, people want new games for their new console, right? In practice however, the uncompromised portability of the switch makes the prospect of re-releases super exciting. Those games which passed you by on other systems suddenly slot in your life. The prospect of a Dark Souls seems less daunting now that you have the option to leisurely dip in and out. The new games will come. Nintendo's output in 2017 assures me of that. In the meantime, there's plenty of quality games from the recent past which can be rejuvenated by the Switch's time-friendly accessibility.
It's so rare that I read a TH-cam comment that is so well-articulated and accurate that I feel like the thought was stolen from my head, murdered, and reincarnated as a higher being. Well-said, my friend. Well-said. *slowclaps*
" The prospect of a Dark Souls seems less daunting now that you have the option to leisurely dip in and out." So we're gonna act like tablet PCs and laptops never were a thing now?
People who get butthurt about the Switch getting ports especially Wii U ports need to realize that the Wii U did not sell very well at all. So that's why I excuse it for getting Wii U ports out of everything. The World Ends With You I was so shocked by and now have an excuse to pick the game up and play it. I never played it on DS.
Yeah Im with you. I never even considered buying a Wii U so all these games, even if they don't appeal directly to me, are great coming out, as I feel like I missed nothing at all.
"People who get butthurt about former Wii U owners butthurt about the Switch getting ports especially Wii U ports need to realize that the Wii U did not sell very well at all, but that some of us supported and believed in Nintendo and sank alot of hard earned money into the system. So that's why I get butthurt about it for getting Wii U ports out of everything. The World Ends With You I was so shocked by and now have an excuse to pick the game up and play it. I never played it on DS." I fixed your post so maybe YOU can understand someone else's perspective.
I agree with you to an extent, however as an early adopter of the Wii U every time a game that was previously an exclusive leaves my console- It loses value. At this rate the only games that will remain exclusive are out-dated versions of Switch games, Pikmin 3, and The Wonderful 101. If they want to kill off the Wii U entirely, then you better port ALL of the exclusives. (1st and 2nd party developed games, obviously)
Kes kes. See this always confuses me. I didn't buy a WiiU so this is all new content and I'm happy. But when I read people talking about the amount of ports on the Switch in a negative way it's usually none Nintendo fans (ie probably didn't have a WiiU). And then adding to my confusion when people ask where the next big game is coming from (now Zelda and Mario are out) Nintendo fans (ie had a WiiU) almost always say something like a port of Smash Bros. It's as if they want ports over new content. Like I say I have no real stance in the argument, I have a Switch, I enjoy it and if they port games from the WiiU I'm happy as it's just new content for me. But as somebody who's previously gamed on Sony, MS consoles and PC it's all a little confusing. Gamers on PS4 and XB1 would moan about the amount of ports (and they had a fair few) but Nintendo fans seem to actively encourage it.
Re masters wouldn't be a problem if publishers didn't see them as easy money in which little work and effort is needed at least something is being done with exclusives cause they need to or they won't succeed
The problem is it's all the Switch has, it's in much lower quality than any 8th gen console or the PC version, and they're mostly last gen games. The only things the Switch has in terms of current gen games is Zelda, Mario, and Mega Man 11. Possibly USF2 if you count 2 OP shotoclones as a form of new content
Wraithfighter that’s called being selfish. Just because you don’t want to play Skyrim that means Skyrim shouldn’t release on the Switch? Nobody is forcing you to buy it, there are plenty of people that have never played Skyrim or haven’t played since 2011 and would love a portable version of it
Viewtiful Z Ah but they're portable and can be played anywhere on the Switch, as Jim pointed out. For some that may not be a big deal, but for others that's a major selling point.
The Red Blur It's The Best game on ds. I was about to buy new charger for my old ds to play that but then I heard a remaster is happening and jizzed my pants
@Peasham They're changing the control scheme for the Switch now that it doesn't have two screen like the ds, most likely o be more similar to the mobile version with the touch screen, but they also said it'll have a control scheme that uses only the joy cons, so I'm wondering how that will turn out.
Ports on the switch are way more relevant than on any other platform. Most people, myself included never owned a Wii U so those games may as well be new releases for us. Wii U was dead on arrival so it missed out on a tonne of multiplats so i was already expecting developers to capitalise on that. Can't wait for the dark souls remaster, going to have to play that on a different platform though i think.
How about no? I don't want that junk. You might not realise it but the % of switch owners who also owned a Wii U are going to be the minority the bigger the switch sales become. Wii U sales were terrible for a reason, it was a bad system. There is a big audience for Wii U games on the switch, you can be as salty as you like but developers are right to take advantage of it.
Why would anyone buy a Wii U? Switch is going to be getting more switch exclusive games like metroid prime fucking 4 while being able to play Wii U games.
You're logic is fucking stupid dude how many people are gonna have to tell you that. Why would I buy a dead system when i can get a superior version of the game on a better system? Are you just a moron or something?
Coolman Hahn I know, I was making a joke because the original comment was pretending to predict that Bayonetta 1 & 2 are getting ported. He’s a couple months late on that.
I dont think its that they lost the source code. I read that the engine they used for the game underwent heavy modifications just to work on ps3 so apparently it would be (and idk which one) either too expensive to recreate the game in a workong engine, or straight up impossible.
yeah actually they saw the source code and it was jumbled as hell no one can understand it so it was deemed hard to port the game, saddest day of my life was hoping for a steam port... but sadly yeah they can't ever. unless they remake the game from ground up but i'm not relying on that, one of the 2 games that makes me want to buy a 360 RDR and AC6
i see like YT videos like saying just an example, bayonetta now backwards compatible with xboxone, or like witcher 2 now compatible with xbox one, so i assumed it was like selective backwards compatibility like how nintendo does it with their VC console.
yeah no resolution is not a problem i just played TLOU on ps3 when my cousin lent me his since he is already on the ps4 so just i can experience it the game i mean, yeah it was good i mean sometimes my eyes do get tired because on a 4k tv it looks like someone poured water on a painting, but yeah i managed, but man rdr and ac6 remaster on steam would make my life more easier.
The mobile port sucks. Also, of course I won't get the console only for that game, there are lots more games I want to play, but TWEWY finally convinced me I need a Switch.
one of the best platforms i have ever play, its one of those game that are hard but you feel its because you need to get better not because some game design making it harder than what its supposed to.
All the ports make a good amount of sense. The Wii U titles getting ported is just smart because the Wii U did so poorly yet it had a selection of truly fantastic titles that deserve to be played, rereleasing them on the Switch is a smart way to get those titles out to the audience that missed out on them. And then a lot of these third party ports that are coming are of games that never made it to Nintendo hardware to begin with. A child raised on Nintendo may be quite happy with the games they got, but is likely aware that they missed out on some really cool games not even exclusive Sony or Microsoft's individual systems, so I understand why these ports are coming as well. And then there's The World Ends With You, and that just makes sense because that game is amazing and the Switch really would be a fantastic home for it.
LOL, i wouldn't equate a port with microtransactions, but to each their own. Regardless, as I said, there is a strong logic to rereleasing Wii U titles on the Switch: not many people bought a Wii U, and as such a lot of people missed out on some fantastic games. Its hard to really blame them for giving such fantastic titles a second lease on life so that they can actually reach the audience the games were always intended to reach, but simply didn't because the Wii U never realaly caught on.
LOL, lets make these remasters and then give them out for free... that's not at all how the Xbone's backwards compatibility works at all. If the Switch had a disc drive, perhaps they could offer backwards compatibility with Wii U games that you already own, but the Switch is obviously cartridge based (as it needs to be for portability), so that simply would not be possible.
I don't really get why ports to any platform would be a bad thing. Even the shittiest PC ports are, to put it in the immortal words of Ben Judd, "better than nothing" and generally appreciated by those who only have access to a single platform. Yeah, it sucks when a developer dials in a port and leaves those who want to play on that platform stuck with that shit port, but so long the port is an option it's at least something you have the choice to play. Mobile ports, PC ports, console ports, PS2 ports, if there's an audience on that platform that wants to play a game then I can't see why we should be giving any developer any shit for putting out ports. Even Skyrim, which people seem to be particularly hung up on about, deserves to be on as many platforms as is conceivably possible, because not everyone has a 360, PS3, or Microsoft Windows. If anything, I'm excited for the prospect of PC's, phones, and consoles having a similar enough architecture and cross-platform libraries that developers can easily create a game for everything at once, whether that be your PS4, your Linux PC, your Android TV, or your goddamn toaster. Broader access to a game and more choice on how exactly you want to play a game is a good thing. Then again, I'm looking at this from the perspective of a PC player, where the expectation is that if you buy a game on Windows, you also get it on Linux and Mac as well. If we can get to a point where games just run on everything without really caring too much about the specifics of your hardware, then it wouldn't matter if something is a "port" because games would be releasing on everything simultaneously anyways and would always work on all future devices.
Terry Wilson I generally feel the PC is the single best platform, but it's undeniable that hardware prices are out of whack and not everyone can afford it. PC does not need exclusives, so complaining that someone isn't wealthy enough to own a Switch, a PC, and a PS4 to play everything on their original platforms seems kind of mean spirited and classist. Until we can get our universal open platform, we should be accepting and encouraging more ports. Fuck exclusives.
I know right. When buying a new console the best strategy (to me) is to find 5 big full exclusives to justify tour purchase of the system then flesh out your collection with multiplatform filler and games your only somewhat interested in. The Wii U (to me) had those exclusives: Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Splatoon were the games to get a Wii U for. Along with the "somewhat interesting' games like: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse and Pikmin 3 But with so many ports of solid Wii U titles headed to the switch the justification for getting a Wii U today is getting smaller and smaller: Wonderful 101, Xenoblade X, Tokyo Mirage #FE, Pikmin 3 and Kirby Rainbow Curse are the only exclusives left (in my opinion) on the Wii U that could maybe justify a purchase of the console.
The difference was Sony ditched the Vita. Nintendo doesn't have much to ditch the Switch in favor of anything, they're all in. I mean, yeah there's the 3DS, but virtually none of that was in the recent Direct.
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is sooo good. It is also ridiculously hard. Also, so glad Nintendo FINALLY are releasing a normal Kirby platformer. Not some gimmicky puzzle game or fighting game or whatever shit. New Kirby!
yup. ditto nintendo fan boys. hated on skyrim calling it C.O.D with swords when it wasnt on their system, declaring zelda the mature gamers rpg of choice, now they love the shit out of skyrim cos its on the switch and swear zelda is just a kiddy game for kids loool
Man can I hug you? I don't think a lot of people care for Tokyo Mirage Session but I REALLY want them to port it to switch, since I never had a Wii U and can't afford one now. Also Xenoblade X. Yes, would love to have it.
not excited at all about the thought of having to repurchase a game i already own. i'd better get the pc remaster for free. i already bought the game-if they're not adding new content, i'm not giving them more money.
Super Schlecht I am pretty sure Capcom will make some Monster Hunter games exclusively for the Switch because the system is extremely popular in Japan (like every other portable system) and there is no reason for Capcom to ignore that market. They can have big multiplatform releases like MHW alongside relatively smaller MH titles exclusively for the Switch as long as there is a market for both of them.
Hornswroggle Realistically speaking there is no chance of Monster Hunter World ever coming to the Switch. What little chance the Switch had of actually running a game that is built for the strengths of PS4/Xbox One hardware was completely crushed by Sony through making the game PS4 exclusive in Japan since there is no sense in even bothering with a Switch port if you can't sell it in Japan. However as I have said it in my previous comment Switch will most likely get its own exclusive Monster Hunter games.
it's both a good and bad thing in my opinion. good for a majority of Switch owners because nobody bought a Wii U. However kind of boring for someone like me that already owns a Wii U. played most of these games on Wii U already.
I mean you'd have a point if these ports were getting in the way of them releasing new games. I don't think that's the case, these are just extra goodies in between first party releases. So just if you played them before and the novelty of having them portable isn't appealing enough to you, don't get it again
Man you sound just like that one microsoft exec who told people complaining about xb1 being online only to just play the 360. The wiiu is nowhere near as portable as the switch and wanting to replay these game on the go is gonna be a big appeal. Having to pay 60 bucks for them a second time is bullshit no matter which way you slice it.
I'm glad a lot of the Wii U games are coming to the Switch. I don't have my Wii U anymore and a lot of the better games I would like to play on the Switch. Plus there are a lot of new Switch owners who never played these games.
From Nintendo's business point of view, I understand why they are doing this. What I don't understand is the mindset that Switch owners that didn't have a Wii U are somehow being cheated if Wii U games aren't ported over. (You didn't quite say it like that, but I have heard others literally make that claim). Had they made a Mario Kart 9, everybody gets a new game. But there's almost gloating by people saying, "Well, I didn't have a Wii U, so why should you get a new game when it's new to me!"
Joel Ressler I wouldnt at all suggest I'm entitled to ports from Wii U but it IS awesome that its happening since i've been a PC only gamer for quite a while and the Switch is looking like a great place to jump back into consoles especially since i wont have to wrestle with everyone else over the TV
Haha, not just old games, but if I need an old game I would look into Steam or GOG. For a console with its limited selection of game I want new games instead of old games.
Why the distinction? Don't you want new games on your PC? There's plenty of them. As Jim pointed out, there's been plenty of first party support, and a lot of new, interesting indie titles too. Just very weird to see someone put a dividing line like this, especially when the console in question is a handheld. Dark Souls on the train to work holds no appeal?
something else to consider: The direct mostly focused on the winter/spring releases, with only a couple of summer releases. The Switch will officially be one year old in March, so I'm predicting that this is only a warmup before Nintendo resumes it's cycle of one major release per month, whether it's a mainstay stay nintendo property, a major 3rd party release or a game using Nintendo IP. The other thing to consider is that many developers got switch dev kits as early as last year, so there's still no time for a 3rd party to start cooking up major new releases on the switch. Not only are these GOOD port selections but they also serve as a buffer before the console finally gets all the heavy hitters
I can't wait to see a new Pokemon game developed for the switch - also would love to see a smash bros/Mario party come out for the switch. Even old ports like Mario sunshine would be utterly amazing!
The boxes in Payday 2 have never been removed... you just can't buy keys any longer instead you have to buy the crates on the steam market for way more money cause they only drop once a week or something like that.
burnout563 They officially removed the old crates from being unlocked in the game, while instead replacing them with crates that are free to open and are unlocked by playing the game for at least 5 hours a week total. Crates and Drills can still be purchased from the market however.
I don't mind this cause there were some good Wii u games I missed cause there wasn't enough to warrant a whole console purchase. Personally excited to get Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Since the WiiU didn't sell for shit, just makes sense to port as many of those titles to the Switch as they can. Also, porting current gen games to a current gen console...how can anyone complain about that?
Honestly, I love that Tropical Freeze is getting a port. People gave it a lot of undeserved shit when it was announced because it had the audacity to not be a new Metroid. That was the one and only talking point up to its release; "It looks good, but it should've been Prime 4." Now that we know Prime 4 is happening, hopefully people will take another look at Tropical Freeze, because it's a fantastic platformer deserving of love and success.
Bayo 2, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Pokken, and Tropical Freeze were all great Wii U games, they deserve a second chance on a system that people actually own. I'd like to see Wonderful 101, Mario 3D World, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Pikmin 3, Mario Maker, Captain Toad, and Star Fox Zero too. The portability of the Switch is good for ports of games like Dark Souls and Skyrim, and I'm exited to see what other 3rd party games get ported.
The World Ends With You is mostly touch based. I don't know how they'll work with that, but Dark souls remastered is coming on PC, so I'm having that going for me, wich is nice!
UltimaKeyMaster I technically 100% it on a pc emulator using a real shit plug in that used 5 extra keys to simulate the stylus... took about an extra 50 hours or so than it should have but I mean with dual analog and two extra shoulder buttons maybe it won't be as janky?
White Wolf Theyre probably gonna do that or announce a new one on the actual NDirect or later this year. Realeasing all the good shit in one go would make it boom in popularity for a short while then die off, whilst keeping a steady stream of releases would keep the console alive longer.
Oh I agree, I'm just saying I don't understand why they didn't do that first. That seems like such a great way to get people involved, since it appeals to solo players and as more of a party game, similar to Mario Kart 8.
At this point I can only assume Smash Switch is an original game, not a port. And if that’s the case, both Brawl and 4 released 2 years after their respective systems
Either way all i know is that when (not if cos we all know on a console like this theyll rake in the money by releasing Smash) they release it my social life will be gone.
No Smash game has ever been ported to another system (aside from Sm4sh on 3DS and Wii U but that doesn't really count), I don't expect Nintendo to change their tune on that any time soon.
I've never slammed any of my controllers while playing, however I do remember hitting my head while playing Burnout 3. F*** that game, it's a completionist's nightmare. Still, if the controller is even a little bit sturdier than a nunchuck, then I think I'll be fine.
I see those ports/remasters as a good thing for most. But for me, as a Wii U owner, it just feels a bit frustrating. Especially Nintendo's own ports. A Mario Kart 8 remaster? Great for those who haven't played it already, for me it means it will still be quite a while until I get a new Mario Kart since they most probably won't release 2 Mario Kart titles within a year or even more. A Bayonetta 2 remaster? Great for those who haven't played it already, for me it means it will still be quite a while until I get a new Bayonetta since they most probably won't release 2 Bayonetta titles within a year or even more. A DKC: Tropical Freeze remaster? Great for those who haven't played it already, for me it means it will still be quite a while until I get a new Mario Kart since they most probably won't release 2 Donkey Kong titles within a year or even more. I absolutely have to admit, that -if you never had a Wii U-, the lineup of first and second party titles in such a short time is waaay better than it was on the Wii U. But talking about exclusive titles, which are, what I buy Nintendo consoles for, and as someone who bought the Wii U, I almost feel the same as with the Wii U where we were almost a year in and titles for most big franchises were so far away they weren't even announced yet.
As a WiiU owner, I can support that. There is just not enough for me on the switch right now. Only ports of games that I already played. Mario Odyssey is the only game that I wanne play, but I don't buy a switch because of that. I really don't understand this video. Always when it is about nintendo, everything (porting the hell out of old games) is ok. Not having a real online service is ok ... But when someone else tries to sell DLCs (and nintendo also did this without consequences) ... than we directly get a shitstorm.
It's more like Wii U owners made a sacrifice to have the lesser versions of the games so that those who didn't trust in N can get the final and best version.
Not trying to throw out the old "you should have known" argument, but honestly considering that the controller for the WiiU was over a third of that system's value, that Nintendo barely offered any customer support even when it was new, and how even big retailers like GameStop and Wal-Mart struggled to get anything having to do with the WiiU because of Nintendo's half-assed support. Well, sorry, but you should have known.
I was dreading this Hyrule Warriors drop. It sucks when they release three versions of a game that requires hundreds of hours of grinding and does not feature cross-saves!
I don't mind the ports either however Nintendo will charge full price for those games again. Releasing a port of a four year old game shouldn't be at full price.
Lord X that's my only issue with this matter. Now I'm feeling vindicated for having a Wii U and NOT having bought those games for the Wii U, years ago. Heh.
The thing with me is that these aren't merely ports to another system, but ports to a portable system, which adds a genuinely great novelty factor to the ports.
As soon as we get a port of Tokyo Mirage Sessions, I'm there. (I know it made a lot of use of the Gamepad as Itsuki's actual phone screen, but I'm sure there's ways to work around that.)
PS4 and XB1 had tons of ports their first 2 years too. Switch has had some amazing exclusives too though, much better than the XB1, and PS4 first year.
Given how underpowered the Switch is, why aren't they releasing older PC games for it? Stuff like Baldur's Gate, NeverWinter Nights, Populous, Civ II, Pirates, Wing Commander, KOTOR, and Monkey Island would run happy as a pig in shit on the Switch. In fact, if they just made a DOS emulator for the Switch they'd have a ready-made pool of thousands of games needing minimal work to port over.
Seriously? With the number of remasters, remakes, sequels, prequels, and reimaginings of older games, you really think there's no market for classic games on the Switch? There's certainly a market for RetroPie, and that's not even a handheld.
WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT Will the remaster end the parts Fromsoftware didn't finish cause they run out of budget? Or is this just so the game looks prettier?
gulden id assume core mechanics will be the same generally because its what makes the game. I do think however, that they may improve many boss fights and a certain area that houses multiple demons stacked on top if each other swimming in pools of lava before fighting 4 terrible bosses straight after each other
The reason the Nintendo ports are such a good thing is because the consoles they originally came from were shit. I wanted to play Hyrule Warriors the moment I heard about it, but I wasn't buying a Wii-U. Also games from other platforms (Payday, Darksouls) are good because they are home console games being made portable. So yes all of this is good shit.
Edgar Nova "So yes all of this is good shit." According to him, everything on Nintendo's side is shit, soooo... EVERYTHING IS SHIT *razzle dazzle jazz hands*
Nirvash that complain about the Wii U always baffled me... People kept saying "the Wii U had so many good games, but it was such a bad console" the console it's defines by it's games. Why would people avoid buying a console with games they like. It's a self fulfilling prophecy
Edgar Nova the Wii u had like 5 games worth a damn, and the first wave of ps4 and xbone both sucked. They are better now since they actually have some power, but the initial launch was weak. Not to mention they had nothing worth playing that I couldn't get on PC. Now we are in a rare time where all 4 platforms have validity. As a pc person, I'm biased towards the portability on Switch
Something else you didn't mention is that we went a full year without Nintendo releasing anything late or delaying anything. In my opinion this is an amazing job on Nintendo's part in making sure their act was top notch for the release of a console that has possibly one of the greatest potentials of any system ever considering it's managed to carve out a market for itself that is both new and directly competes with the XBOne and PS4.
the thing that makes these ports so good to me is the hybrid aspect of the switch being able to do easy grind while taking a shit or waiting for somthing and then coming back home ploping down the switch grab the pro controller and playing the harder/serious bits when you get home is pure gold. but your point of it is got damm handheld dark souls what more do you want is a easy thing to point at.
I'm not the first to ask, but is it wise to put Dark Souls on a console that you can throw?
no, no it is not
you think nintendo cares? Go ahead and throw it, you'll have to buy another one for 300 bucks, more money for them
Benjermingaye just a joke, man
Nintendo: yes. Just means you'll have to buy a new Switch
Thats probably a part of a devious plan thought up by Nintendo with support from From. Get Dark Souls, get pissed when you die the 7th time by Capra, toss the console into the toilet, go buy a new one, give more money to Nintendo, rinse and repeat.
Wow now you can literally shit yourself while playing dark souls.
SilverSteel but you already could. I did
But now the cleanup is so much quicker.
i just take my controller into the bathroom.
I already can. A small table and my laptop. Done.
no need for the table, laptop on lap on the shitter.
Well, it WAS marketed as a Port-able console.
Punderful
A- for the Effort
*facepalm*
Ah, another person of class and distinction. **Raises Toast and a thumbs up, unironically**
DanieZiltoid HAH!
Lets hope Life of Black Tiger gets a port to the Switch.
Kori Harpoon Game of the Decade, so it has to be!
Beautiful game, great story. The black tiger's life is that of a greek tragedy, I can cry while playing it on the toilet now
PIN THIS FUCKER
No need. The switch already has Troll and I, which is just as good.
You don't NEED it with TWEWY since they have a pure Joycon option (thank fuck because while I wanna play it that shit is tricky to figure out starting out), but it's there.
that's an e3 level announcement
Well it is PORTable system after all.
Lmao...
Points. All of the points. For this guy.
Made a funny
get out.
Listen up you 1/4 iron magician no needs ye bad puns
I'm fine with ports, as long as they're not a notable drop in quality from the original console and they aren't locked behind a paywall that's $60, shaped like Call of Duty and have extra microtransactions hacking the game's corpse up.
which is why Hyrule Warriors with ALL maps and 40$ worth of DLC included for free is a great idea. Yes Street Fighter is doing the same shit but we're talking different consoles so it's good for those who played the original AND newcomers
Does the Switch even have the ability to allow people to buy mtx's?
i would assume so considering nba 2k18 is on it.
Yes, Asmodeus , you can buy microtransactions, DLCs, etc
Another big issue, especially considering the 60 dollar price tag (let's be real, a lot of them are gonna be full price) , it's a real dick move to people who don't have a lot of expendable income. A lot of people save up for new consoles, or even sell the older ones to help with buying them. Having to pay 60 dollars again for a game you already own, that also costs 60 dollars is a huge pain.
Honestly I hope every single game that was on the Wii U gets ported to Switch since nobody owned a Wii U and a vast majority of the games on that console were FANTASTIC
I'd buy Wooly World a second time in a heart beat to take that on the go with me. Add more Yoshi patterns or more secret levels to spice it up? Sold.
Collin Shorette There was a 3DS port of that game though.
Collin Shorette, Wish already granted, Wooly World had a 3DS port with more bonus levels and patterns.
Avossk Honestly almost every WiiU game either has been ported to 3DS or Switch, or gotten a sequel. The only ones from the top of my head that are still entirely WiiU exclusive are Pikmin 3, Star Fox Zero Super Mario 3D World.
Star Fox Zero (skeletor voice)
I never got the hatred for ports. People do realize that there are new gamers growing up all the time and not every release is supposed to be tailored to the people who bought the game the first time around, right?
DarthLego46 the majority og people who points at that are fanboys of other consoles or wii u owners with a switch
Well there arnt any good new games anyways just a handfull of actual games which are not buggy casino or full of microtransactions
not every wii u owner with a switch. i want all of the games i own on wii u ported over so i can get rid of the damned thing. as soon as i hear a smash and mario maker port, thats my wii u done for.
*sigh*
FalseAdvertisingHater cough*stars wars battlefront*cough*call of duty wwii*cough*
you are forgetting an small issue there.
Pixel Fyxe Wouldn't it be two down, since there is a Mario and Zelda game on the Switch?
And Bloodborne came in just a little after the year 1 mark. In retrospect, it's hard to tell why it sold so well in 2014 tbh.
Rey P well, Nintendo and Microsoft had just fucked up with Wiiu and always online respectively, it isn't that hard to understand tbh
We should have known that Chibi Robo was praising the sun
I know! How the fook did miss so many people miss this?
Seems like most of the Wii U's best games have been ported to Switch. Mario Kart 8, Splatoon (2), Bayonetta...
Nothing really wrong with ports if you never played the games before.
TheVideoGameManiac forgot breath
Warning: Playing Dark Souls on a toilet will cause severe constipation.
Edit: You might never shit again.
Phahahahahhaha! x'D
BigHailFan
*sell
Oh I remember this!
For instance, Mario Kart 8 is an incredible game and the switch port doubled its sales to a number that is closer to what the developers actaully deserve
minecraft, MK8, pokken, DK tropical freeze, captain toad and hyrrule warrior are all great Wii U games and even than it's only 6 port it's nothing compare to all brand new games on the switch. but still waiting for a xenoblade chronicle X port my favorite game
zoroark MASTER Minecraft is a 3rd party game, lol. But otherwise I agree on you.
well i said from Wii U not exclusive to first party
There's lots of ports, but what people don't seem to understand about them, is that even if they're ports, even without any software changes, the hardware being semi portable automatically makes the games have something new that most older versions didn't, and honestly makes it worth re-buying the games to me
I bought Stardew Valley again for Switch. I already have it on my PC but I didn't want to be stuck at home just to play it.
TheSonicTurtles Yup, I entirely agree. Well, save for Hyrule Warriors, since there was already a 3DS port, so...hurrah for better frames and graphics?
Crono Sapien At least it has all the DLC included lol
Agreed, but it IS 100% portable, nothing semi about it.
"Semi portable"
Nigga what?
Considering how few people bought the Wii U to play a lot of it’s exclusives, in my opinion it’s amazing. I finally get to try Hyrule Warriors.
yup.
Imagine having the Advance Wars games ported to the Switch.
wrong
its actually a port of the mobile phone version nobody played
@@krystalfan that counts? Given the switch version is more user friendly with a Stylus
And even on the go if needs must.
shouldn't we be excited as this shows strong third-party support for the system?
bokgil I am. To me that's even more important than the Switch itself
bokgil Nintendo's finally getting open to new ideas
Im ecstatic for all the ports. Its nice to see a nintendo console get some 3rd party love. Fucking skyrim on the go? Fuck yeah.
YesteryearsGamer thats how i feel. Im fine with it being vanilla for the simple fact that i can take a poop while shouting fus ro dah lmfao
No. Since ports are low risk, testing the waters kinds of games. What matters is multi-plats and third party exclusives. Not a game from 6 years ago, with a slight bump in resolution.
Playing dark souls on the go would be pretty funny since you can't pause. Missing your stop on the bus/train cause you're trying to kill O&S
Tibasu fucking worth it....
Sleep mode baybee
The home button can handle pausing.
Tibasu you'd just sleep the console. I'm sure it'd work a bit like a pause.
Sleep mode you poser
Many of these games they are announcing, i did not have the chance to play it.... so is a good thing not only for me, but for people who missed some of those games before.
Very true, haven't played the first Dark Souls yet so I'm looking forward to it.
IncaWarrior3000 Agreed. If anything I was annoyed they that they chose to port Hyrule Warriors over Wind Waker HD or almost any other Nintendo game stranded on WiiU
Hyrule Warriors interests me in particular. I never played it on Wii U because, well, because Wii U.
Mystic Melody Mario Maker Switch when? ;-;
Mystic Melody Game Cube sold poorly, the good games sold even worse that the WiiU AAA games. But not all the Game cube games were ported to the Wii to "be played for more people"
paco ramon not all of the games, but pikmin got a new control release. But lets be honest a luigis mansion remaster will sell well.
... That's because the Wii could play Gamecube games and it was therefore not necessary to release them
paco ramon
You're logic would make sense if the wii didn't run gamecube games.
I honestly want all of Wii U's greatest games ported to the Switch because I skipped the Wii U entirely and I'm loving my Switch so far.
Okay so they have to port games because you want them
We also need to commend the fact that Nintendo doesn't jam micro-transactions or loot box's into every single one of their games.
Never say never. Crazier things have happened.
P P paid dlcs don't equal loot boxes
They don't have lootboxes. Instead, they censor the hell out of their games and split one game into two (Fire Emblem)
Who knows if they'll eventually port it to the Switch but it's worth playing it
It's a really good game man. Don't go into it expecting xenoblade and you'll have a good time. Just enjoy the world and the combat
XC2 just came out so give it time to shine X )
also this is coming from someone who still has XCX.............. in the seal :")
I KNOW the port will eventually happen and idk what to do with the game until then LOL
Nintendo, Wii owe U one
My only complaint about the Switch, is that I don’t have enough money for all these fucking games.
Always_Serpico same here
carruthers100 You mean the few people who bought a Wii U? Most people with a Switch didn't have a Wii U like me. The only Switch games I've already played are Skyrim and Doom.
I still cant get my head round of people who hate on PORTS ? its been there from the beginning in gaming , arcade ports to console ports started it all.
because botch job ports are common.
I agree with your point, but that's not a good argument to defend it.
people hate on ports because they would rather generalize than spend the time and effort to patiently judge on a case-by-case basis.
Blossora That and they think the team's making new games are taken away from making new games when most are actually outsorsed jobs XD
Dark Souls portable? YES
So you made a video about people complaining about Nintendo ports and you didn't call it "Port Whine"?
C'mon, Jim. You're better than this.
Mitchell Holmes Well... he wasn't complaining.
Royston! Royston! This one made a wine joke! Jot it down for future appropriation!
Hope you'll enjoy paying full price for your old games budd.
I will, thanks. :)
Well-said.
*slowclaps*
Haha, thanks dude.
" The prospect of a Dark Souls seems less daunting now that you have the option to leisurely dip in and out."
So we're gonna act like tablet PCs and laptops never were a thing now?
I look forward to your LP of Dark Souls on a tablet.
and when they're 10 time more new games
People who get butthurt about the Switch getting ports especially Wii U ports need to realize that the Wii U did not sell very well at all. So that's why I excuse it for getting Wii U ports out of everything. The World Ends With You I was so shocked by and now have an excuse to pick the game up and play it. I never played it on DS.
Yeah Im with you. I never even considered buying a Wii U so all these games, even if they don't appeal directly to me, are great coming out, as I feel like I missed nothing at all.
the world ends with you is overrated. i played it on ds
The people who don't want ports are probably the ones that support console exclusives. What's wrong with creating a larger community for a game?
because if cross platform play isn't included with the ports, you're not creating a larger community.
But they're remaking The World Ends With You! Personally, that is fantastic, as it is one of the best DS games out there, in my opinion.
The Red Blur It's The Best game on ds. I was about to buy new charger for my old ds to play that but then I heard a remaster is happening and jizzed my pants
I dunno, I remember the controls being kinda clunky
@Peasham They're changing the control scheme for the Switch now that it doesn't have two screen like the ds, most likely o be more similar to the mobile version with the touch screen, but they also said it'll have a control scheme that uses only the joy cons, so I'm wondering how that will turn out.
*SO ZETTA SLOW*
Ports on the switch are way more relevant than on any other platform. Most people, myself included never owned a Wii U so those games may as well be new releases for us. Wii U was dead on arrival so it missed out on a tonne of multiplats so i was already expecting developers to capitalise on that. Can't wait for the dark souls remaster, going to have to play that on a different platform though i think.
War Numen this can't be stated enough
THEN BUY A Wii U. Simple as that. If you want to play those games, then BUY THE SYSTEM THEY ARE FOR. Simple.
Bayonetta 1 & 2 will be ported to switch as well
carni I bet they also make a sequel.
Laeric Thomas they are it was announced along with the ports
Coolman Hahn I know, I was making a joke because the original comment was pretending to predict that Bayonetta 1 & 2 are getting ported. He’s a couple months late on that.
the original comment wasn't a prediction, only a reminding statement.
Blossora read like a prediction so I responded appropriately.
I'll die happy if I could play Red Dead Redemption on the Switch.
I dont think its that they lost the source code. I read that the engine they used for the game underwent heavy modifications just to work on ps3 so apparently it would be (and idk which one) either too expensive to recreate the game in a workong engine, or straight up impossible.
yeah actually they saw the source code and it was jumbled as hell no one can understand it so it was deemed hard to port the game, saddest day of my life was hoping for a steam port... but sadly yeah they can't ever. unless they remake the game from ground up but i'm not relying on that, one of the 2 games that makes me want to buy a 360 RDR and AC6
is RDR and AC 6 already backward compatible with xboxone?
i see like YT videos like saying just an example, bayonetta now backwards compatible with xboxone, or like witcher 2 now compatible with xbox one, so i assumed it was like selective backwards compatibility like how nintendo does it with their VC console.
yeah no resolution is not a problem i just played TLOU on ps3 when my cousin lent me his since he is already on the ps4 so just i can experience it the game i mean, yeah it was good i mean sometimes my eyes do get tired because on a 4k tv it looks like someone poured water on a painting, but yeah i managed, but man rdr and ac6 remaster on steam would make my life more easier.
Honestly Dark Souls and TWEWY are the main reasons I want a Switch now.
Dark souls remaster will be on all platforms
But TWEWY won't
TheCooperman666 It's the only platform where you can play it wherever you want though. That's the point
Buying a Switch for a handheld game?
I mean, it's a good game, but get it on mobile or something, not worth a console
The mobile port sucks. Also, of course I won't get the console only for that game, there are lots more games I want to play, but TWEWY finally convinced me I need a Switch.
I'm looking forward to getting donkey kong. I've heard it's one of the best donkey kong's ever and it was stuck on the WiiU. now I'll get to play it!
onedeadsaint Meh. It was ok.
one of the best platforms i have ever play, its one of those game that are hard but you feel its because you need to get better not because some game design making it harder than what its supposed to.
onedeadsaint xenoblade chronicles X and TMS#FE were sent to die on wii u
The Gamer Of The Wise Donkey Kong TF and Rayman Legends are the pinnacle of 2D Platforming.
exactly thats why i am so happy with this direct i didnt think id actually get the chance to play it!! now just waiting for mario maker and im happy
And then there's The World Ends With You, and that just makes sense because that game is amazing and the Switch really would be a fantastic home for it.
its just a quick cash grab like microtransactions
LOL, i wouldn't equate a port with microtransactions, but to each their own. Regardless, as I said, there is a strong logic to rereleasing Wii U titles on the Switch: not many people bought a Wii U, and as such a lot of people missed out on some fantastic games. Its hard to really blame them for giving such fantastic titles a second lease on life so that they can actually reach the audience the games were always intended to reach, but simply didn't because the Wii U never realaly caught on.
its still really scummy they shouve given them out for free like xbox does with backwards compatibility, dumbass
LOL, lets make these remasters and then give them out for free... that's not at all how the Xbone's backwards compatibility works at all. If the Switch had a disc drive, perhaps they could offer backwards compatibility with Wii U games that you already own, but the Switch is obviously cartridge based (as it needs to be for portability), so that simply would not be possible.
well they probably used cartridges from the start so when they got asked to bring backwards compatibility they could use the cartridge excuse
A game like Tropical Freeze deserves to be ported to a console people actually play so it can get the appreciation it deserved
I love the thumbnail, nice one Jim
Nintendo doing their Best to erase WiiU from existence
Jun Kurosu If that means I see Twilight Princess HD and Wind Waker HD on the Switch at some point, I'm okay with this.
Raven Brown, I like the way you think.
Along with the "somewhat interesting' games like: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse and Pikmin 3
But with so many ports of solid Wii U titles headed to the switch the justification for getting a Wii U today is getting smaller and smaller: Wonderful 101, Xenoblade X, Tokyo Mirage #FE, Pikmin 3 and Kirby Rainbow Curse are the only exclusives left (in my opinion) on the Wii U that could maybe justify a purchase of the console.
I mean... Can you blame them?
Rafał B They're my two most favorite Zelda games. xD
Vita has more ports, Look how well it's doing.
Ps: love my vita, one of my most played consoles, so underrated.
Geralt of Riverwood I love my Vita and my Switch 😊
The difference was Sony ditched the Vita. Nintendo doesn't have much to ditch the Switch in favor of anything, they're all in.
I mean, yeah there's the 3DS, but virtually none of that was in the recent Direct.
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is sooo good. It is also ridiculously hard. Also, so glad Nintendo FINALLY are releasing a normal Kirby platformer. Not some gimmicky puzzle game or fighting game or whatever shit. New Kirby!
What annoys me is that Nintendo fans mocked the Vita for having ports, now they act like they're the best thing ever on the Switch.
yup. ditto nintendo fan boys. hated on skyrim calling it C.O.D with swords when it wasnt on their system, declaring zelda the mature gamers rpg of choice, now they love the shit out of skyrim cos its on the switch and swear zelda is just a kiddy game for kids loool
I loved that vita just became port central
Funny that Ys 8 and I Am Setsuna are actually Vita games.
Magus12000BC wasn't gravity falls originally a Vita game?
jose gonzalez - Do you mean Gravity Rush? Yes, it was. It was actually one of the few reasons to get a Vita at the time.
I just want them to port tokyo mirage session #fe and xenoblade x to the switch.
CardriderDraw - Level2 yes!!!!!!!! I missed out on both and I want them!
Man can I hug you? I don't think a lot of people care for Tokyo Mirage Session but I REALLY want them to port it to switch, since I never had a Wii U and can't afford one now. Also Xenoblade X. Yes, would love to have it.
I enjoy both those games on the Wii U. Would definitely like them on the switch.
Gorden121 those rpgs were sent to die on the wii u.
Haruhi Suzumiya Probably, but I refuse to lose hope.
Kirby has met his toughest rival yet: Himself!
Dark souls 1 remaster hype!!!
Kushy cry more lol.
Roy Blekman cant wait me too.
Gonna enjoy invading nintendo gamers 😎
not excited at all about the thought of having to repurchase a game i already own. i'd better get the pc remaster for free. i already bought the game-if they're not adding new content, i'm not giving them more money.
Kushy even little kiddies know to stay away from dark souls
Kefka Palazzo dont think of the player base being that big on the switch. I think for pvp ( invading ) pc/ps4/xbox are the best platforms to do it on.
I hope so much that they will port at least one Monster Hunter game to the switch
I think everyone wants an English version of MHXX
Considering MH World is on a good way so far it's not very far fetched to see it come to the switch
Well Japan already has one with XX on the Switch. Hopefully that gets localized.
I'm glad the Switch is getting so many Wii U ports. I skipped out on it and never got a chance to play any of these games.
it's both a good and bad thing in my opinion. good for a majority of Switch owners because nobody bought a Wii U.
Having to pay 60 bucks for them a second time is bullshit no matter which way you slice it.
jblrules316 must be irritating for all 5 of you wii u owners
I like older games, that's why I have a PC. But on a console, a new console, I hunger for new games.
My mindset exactly XD that's all my PC is for, old games.
Haha, not just old games, but if I need an old game I would look into Steam or GOG. For a console with its limited selection of game I want new games instead of old games.
HappyPhilXD Well... there's alot of new games coming for the Switch, but there's also alot ports. So for me... it's a win win.
It's absolutly appealing but I have the feeling the last 4 years was just remasters and remakes instead of new games.
something else to consider:
The direct mostly focused on the winter/spring releases, with only a couple of summer releases.
Personally I love all these ports. Dark Souls in particular.
Well only 3 people owned a Wii U.
13 million actually!
half of them were the rabbid fans buying limited edition versions probably
edwin serrano I was one of the three.
I owned one aswell, so there was at least 4 people. Do your research next time.
I'm a Boglin not really, ive had this pic for like 5-6 years. But google+ is cancer so i wont bother changing it
What's the background music at 6:00?
When did "port" became a dirty word? What's wrong with Nintendo bringing more games to Switch?
Atropos148 - When people started charging $60 for six year old games.
When consoles started needing exclusives to sell any units because everything about them is shit otherwise.
Where's Capt Toad? Hope that gets a port soon. It was a lil gem that's built for handheld.
Game is ridiculously underrated. ..I was compelled to 100% it.
John Laden You got it.
Whenever Jim is happy, I am happy. When Jim’s jimmies are rustled, my jimmies are rustled.
is he really happy? are you sure? his tone of voice and the amount of swearing dont seem to differ much...
Wyrmis you are jim, you are not yourself, you are a brainless drone. Congratulations
At least I won't have to think about anything. I'd honestly rather not have a brain.
+Blake Blast
When Jim's Jim, I'm Jim. When Jim's a brainless drone, I'm a brainless drone.
I don't mind this cause there were some good Wii u games I missed cause there wasn't enough to warrant a whole console purchase. Personally excited to get Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
A fuckton of ports is better than a fuckton of nothing.
How dare you disparage the XBox One! *shakes fist*
yo, you had me on the floor at 6:37 when you said "because it's small!"
Since I never had an Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 ... Most of these games I never played. I'm getting them.
half of the games have been on pc for years. what do you game on? how did you miss so many of these?
Are you saying the switch is.....PORTable?
CounterGriefZombies RedditSilver! For this gentleman.
Since the WiiU didn't sell for shit, just makes sense to port as many of those titles to the Switch as they can. Also, porting current gen games to a current gen console...how can anyone complain about that?
The only people I can see complaining are people that owned all those games on Wii U(not a lot) and switch haters(a lot)
Honestly, I love that Tropical Freeze is getting a port. People gave it a lot of undeserved shit when it was announced because it had the audacity to not be a new Metroid. That was the one and only talking point up to its release; "It looks good, but it should've been Prime 4."
Now that we know Prime 4 is happening, hopefully people will take another look at Tropical Freeze, because it's a fantastic platformer deserving of love and success.
>The World Ends With You is mostly touch based. I don’t know how they’ll work with that.
Wow...
It’s almost like...
the Switch has a touch screen!
Still, if it's a port of a port, I mean Android version is kind of laggy!
They did say you don't need the touch controls.
UltimaKeyMaster
I technically 100% it on a pc emulator using a real shit plug in that used 5 extra keys to simulate the stylus... took about an extra 50 hours or so than it should have but I mean with dual analog and two extra shoulder buttons maybe it won't be as janky?
Didn't they say the game was going to use a gyroscope pointer to emulate the touch screen?
I really don't understand why they haven't ported Super Smash yet... That seems like a no brainer. And I would buy that Day One.
No Smash game has ever been ported to another system (aside from Sm4sh on 3DS and Wii U but that doesn't really count), I don't expect Nintendo to change their tune on that any time soon.
...as soon as New Donk City was available to me, my first thought was, "Oh, I gotta find that guy that just wants to die!" Oh Jim.
If there ever was a certain time for me to get a switch.. This is it! Fuckin' Dark Souls!
Thousand Suns playing in the background. I love you, Jim.
People have a problem with ports? People need a reality check.
Dark Souls 2 and 3 cost me $165 in controllers… I don’t think I’ll be getting Dark Souls on the switch.
I don't understand how people can get so angry they manage to actually break the controller! Yet alone more than once?!
*Quietly closes the door and leaves*
dark souls 2 has cost me $120 from playing it for 3k hours haha
David Kelvon
Git gud.
The to the second point - Bayonetta 3 is in development, it was announced.
The others though, yeah I understand.
Sharlatan Bayonetta 3 is in development despite the ports. Just pointing it out.
It's not even a year old; ports are it's way of catching up. And what's wrong with ports? They're obviously also working on getting newer games too
I don't mind the ports either however Nintendo will charge full price for those games again. Releasing a port of a four year old game shouldn't be at full price.
Lord X that's my only issue with this matter. Now I'm feeling vindicated for having a Wii U and NOT having bought those games for the Wii U, years ago. Heh.
Actually the prices are because of the expensive cartridges they come on, otherwise they would probably be 'normal' price.
I’m so exited for Hyrule Warriors - after finishing BOTW and Odyssey I need something I can just half-mindedly sink hundreds of hours into
I just want Bayonetta DLC for Hyrule Warriors... :D
The thing with me is that these aren't merely ports to another system, but ports to a portable system, which adds a genuinely great novelty factor to the ports.
Yeah it’s not a simple port it is PORTable LOL
As soon as we get a port of Tokyo Mirage Sessions, I'm there.
(I know it made a lot of use of the Gamepad as Itsuki's actual phone screen, but I'm sure there's ways to work around that.)
PS4 and XB1 had tons of ports their first 2 years too. Switch has had some amazing exclusives too though, much better than the XB1, and PS4 first year.
TWEWY
I was sold as soon as i saw the speech bubbles in the Nintendo Direct video. Playing it so much in 2008 made me recognize it instantly :)
I played it my phone like 100 times.
Still one of my favorite original 3DS games, can't wait for the new version!
Everyone go listen to Calling and get fucking hyped because that song rules
it's the port of the mobile game
Given how underpowered the Switch is, why aren't they releasing older PC games for it? Stuff like Baldur's Gate, NeverWinter Nights, Populous, Civ II, Pirates, Wing Commander, KOTOR, and Monkey Island would run happy as a pig in shit on the Switch. In fact, if they just made a DOS emulator for the Switch they'd have a ready-made pool of thousands of games needing minimal work to port over.
NoJusticeNoPeace You really can't say the Switch is underpowered being the most powerful handheld ever made
That's what you got from what I wrote? That I'm criticizing the Switch for being underpowered?
NoJusticeNoPeace Because there's no market for it
Seriously? With the number of remasters, remakes, sequels, prequels, and reimaginings of older games, you really think there's no market for classic games on the Switch? There's certainly a market for RetroPie, and that's not even a handheld.
Jesus christ, I know you Nintendon't fanboyz are fanatic and delusional, but I promise I'm not trying to dis your sacred idol.
WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT
Will the remaster end the parts Fromsoftware didn't finish cause they run out of budget?
Or is this just so the game looks prettier?
BigHailFan who said that?
gulden id assume core mechanics will be the same generally because its what makes the game. I do think however, that they may improve many boss fights and a certain area that houses multiple demons stacked on top if each other swimming in pools of lava before fighting 4 terrible bosses straight after each other
At least one of those boss' named sounds like gonorrhea and made a lot of people laugh, though
EDIT: "names." Stupid phone.
2018: Year of the port
I need to know, what is the awesome background music in this video?
The reason the Nintendo ports are such a good thing is because the consoles they originally came from were shit. I wanted to play Hyrule Warriors the moment I heard about it, but I wasn't buying a Wii-U. Also games from other platforms (Payday, Darksouls) are good because they are home console games being made portable. So yes all of this is good shit.
Nirvash everything that is not Nintendo is shit, right?
Edgar Nova "So yes all of this is good shit." According to him, everything on Nintendo's side is shit, soooo... EVERYTHING IS SHIT *razzle dazzle jazz hands*
Nirvash that complain about the Wii U always baffled me... People kept saying "the Wii U had so many good games, but it was such a bad console" the console it's defines by it's games. Why would people avoid buying a console with games they like. It's a self fulfilling prophecy
South Park, Season 15 Episode 7, Stan starts seeing shit everywhere. Everything becomes shit to him.
I'm hyped for Hyrule warriors.
Now we only need Smash 4 on Switch 🙏
LoveOrihime I'm pretty sure the switch is going to get a brand new smash. Every Nintendo console seems to have one.
Smash port sounds like something they would save for October/November for a holiday system seller.
LoveOrihime Why?
