      But... it really is, there is just not enough time to spend in the movies :D The Clone Wars has silly Jar Jar and cool gungan and Darth Maul battles and beautiful Naboo of The Phantom Menace, it has Kamino, the politics, the clones and the cringy romance of Attack of the Clones, it has powerful friendship, large scale war and dark moments like Revenge of the Sith. Scine Bamm You’re missing the point it was never about Prequels vs Clone Wars, It was always about The Clone Wars complimenting the Prequel Trilogy and filling the big time gap besides without the Prequels we wouldn’t have got the Clone Wars in the first place. It’s also unfair to compare both since it’s only 2 hour films compared to a big series which had much more time investment in production and much more screen time to flesh out the heroes, villains, most importantly I think humanising the clones and expanding the world building. Anakin’s Clone Wars character is the same Character as Hayden’s but there is so development in his character arc going on, look at how much gradually darker and exhausted by the wars Anakin becomes in the later seasons of the Clone Wars, it explains us why he is the way he is in Episode 3.

    I actually think, that Star Wars works best in a series format. It gives more room for worldbuilding and character development and fits perfectly with the Flash Gordon roots of the Franchise.
    That's why The Clone Wars and The Mandalorian are some of my favourite Star Wars media.

      I'm really curious as to why so many people value worldbuilding over character and theme in SW.
      That's not an attack, btw. I just find the perspective interesting. SW, to me, was never about building complex lore. It's all about the characters and story and thematic depth you can mine. The fun world is just the cool backdrop, an accent that makes it stand apart.
      But some fans seem to only really crave lore lore lore.

    • @Wastydest
      @Wastydest 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@nope5657 I get what you are saying, but to me the worldbuilding adds to the characters and the story. Like how in the Mandalorian the "Great Purge" adds to the backstory and mindset of the Mando.
      I am also very interested in real live history and I believe history and the World around us have a huge influence on who we are, even though we often don't realise it.

    • @nope5657
      @nope5657 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Wastydest Yes, The Great Purge as an example of worldbuilding is apt...but it's also far more important as character development. At least from my point of view.
      I guess worldbuilding has a broad scope.
      Based off definition, worldbuilding is just the effort put into making a fictional world feel as believable as possible by providing background deets. So The Great Purge acts as both worldbuilding and character background.
      But usually when people praise worldbuilding it's always because it EXPLAINS stuff. Stuff that doesn't neccessarily need explaining to tell a compelling story.
      That's what I love about the OT in particular. It's worldbuilding is almost completely visual. The films rarely ever stop to just explain a thing. You're dropped into this world and told to accept it and keep up.
      I think the EU/Legends days created a new faction of SW fans because every little detail about the SW U was explained in a book, comic, game, or reference book at some point.

    • @elfsong713
      @elfsong713 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really value worldbuilding as well. In the movies, the approach seems to be, do something that doesn't make sense, and then write a bunch of books or make other movies to explain the plot-holes and flaws in logic.
      With The Clone Wars, the worldbuilding serves to tell an interesting story.

    I had recently watched it for the first time. Every episode to prepare for the new season 7. The biggest mistake was assuming for it was for kids
    Watching the prequels. I always felt that there should have been 4 movies. Anakin was hard for fans to understand and love at times. I think the 4 year span of the clone wars is something that still could be explored much more.
    With this show. I came to understand Anakin’s fall to the dark side. With his constant feel of distrust towards him from the council, and especially them turning their back on Asoka. Which helps make sense, due to him in episode 3, jumping ship so quickly. However with this show. I understand it. I think if Asoka stayed with Anakin. He would’ve never joined the dark side, because he treated her like as if she was his daughter. We all know anakin suffered from handling emotion and it was probably the most heart breaking part of the show. And definitely top 3 in overall history of Star Wars.
    Along with what’s the best and most creative clone army of all time. The prequels barely gave these guys any attention outside of Cody. The first few seasons don’t waste any time showing the bond between the clones and their Jedi generals, who each become brothers. It’s amazing and also sad when you realize what’s at the end of the war. Literally they treat each other with so much respect
    Asoka is what Rey could have been. Imagine Rey, but with way character development, and more ties to fan favorite characters.
    You first meet Asoka as a Jedi Padawan. Eager to learn, but also extremely cocky. Sound familiar right? Obi wan seemed to want anakin to take on a padawan because he believed Anakin could learn more being a teacher, than a full time student. Asoka has what I believe is the best character development out of any character in Star Wars. Lucas Films perfected her. Over a 100 episodes and a 1.5 hour movie, to build her from a Jedi learner, to becoming a Padawan, to then becoming a powerful Jedi Knight. This is why the clone wars will always take a massive dump on Disney Star Wars and their Rebels show.

    It’s main strengths are the development of characters like anakin, obi wan and the clones that the prequels just didn’t have time or focus enough to do. You get a much better feeling of and context to anakins struggle and really see him as a charismatic and heroic Jedi plus his relationship with both padme and obi wan feels along deeper and more believable. As for the clones; domino squad.. need I say more?

    There are two types of star wars: the Space Fantasy western/samurai dramas of the OT (i.e. MANDO), and the Sci-Fi Greek Epics of the PT. Both are fantastic in their own right, and though I grew up with TCW, it and The Mandalorian are both the best Star Wars has to offer

    I think the clone wars has some of the best concepts and characters in all of star wars, but it really suffers from moving too fast to hold as many arcs as possible. Maul and Savage have a great build-up with usurping Mandalore but in order to make room for the rest of the season, the show takes a short-cut by having Palpatine show up without any prior involvement in the conflict to kick their asses instead of creating an organic end to their story that fits with what has been built. 99 was a great concept for a character, but he only has two episodes and less screentime than rose in TROS before dying. It's a lot like how instead of giving Trilla a meaningful conclusion to her own character, Fallen Order just has a familiar bad guy show up to kill her despite vader having no involvment in the game prior. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that it originally aired on cartoon network where serialized shows were not very successful due to lack of rerun ability. I love the clone wars but I often feel frustrated by how much I would love it more if they let arcs be longer.

    In 1977 I was 11 and of course I saw Star Wars( twice and.... wait for it... it was only 50 cents for a kid then). As a kid I fascinated by the line in The New Hope "You fought in the Clone Wars?". But that one line intrigued me and the reason that is. I grow up on Trek and always wanted to know about the Earth Romulan war. Still don't know because the 5th season of Enterprise would have taken place then. But the Clone Wars I know what happened. Great esp.

    i feel like the clone wars is one of those add ons that adds more to the story, but also kind of undoes or creates a plothole for some things in the movies. like how the clones have personalities and are like everyone else when in aotc the kaminoans say they are totaly obiedient and are less independent. kind of like how rogue one adds how the weakness in the death star was created and the battle to get the plans right before anh, but in anh they say the death star wasnt operational yet when we saw it fire in rogue one.

Not to mention being one of the best at showing how interesting the clones can actually be

    Finally someone being realistic about the show. About half of the show is “the worst Star Wars” as you put it. People on TH-cam argue with me claiming that’s it’s a mature show and it’s meant for adults not kids. I had to calmly explain to this man that it was in fact a children’s show. People act like it’s so serious and mature and crazy but when you watch it it’s kiddy as hell. It’s really good at times, don’t get me wrong but I’m sick of people being unreasonable about the show and just ignoring all the “floating turds” as you said.

    Nostalgia is kinda a funny thing. The starwars property I spend the most time with was the OG battlefront 2, like I loved the movies but played that game for more time then I had watch time of ethier trilogy. It made my rouge one watch experience interesting because even tho I felt like it was an just an average movie, I have kinda a soft spot for it because a lot of it reminded me of that game. If you didn't have the same nostalgic experience of that game then I don't think I could possibly get you to understand why I feel the way I do. On the flip side of that, clone wars came out when I was in high school, I stopped watching cartoons, I didnt watch the show untill last year after college, and I think it's great, but I don't hold it to this special standard that I've seen people about 4 or 5 years younger then me hold it to. I've always thought that's why starwars is so divisive, everyone has their own

    I remember when I were a kid I witnessed the prequels coming out in theatres and really thought they looked dumb. 5 years later I gave a shot at Clone Wars and now I'm a massive Star Wars fan. Even the Original Trilogy couldn't suck me in this universe because of how outdated it looked. Clone wars was able to correctly reintroduce the prequels to me and as I got older the show got more mature and epic and so did the animation. Unrelated but it was also the peak of Star Wars toys in my opinion which also helped all of us action figure collector. It was a peak for Star Wars and therefore my favourite Star Wars.

    Clone wars tells a lot of great stories, and finds new and inventive ways of developing its characters over the course of the seasons. Season 7 is the last we will see of the clone wars show, because I doubt a season 8 would ever be taken into account.
    Sometimes even something from the first or second season will get mentioned by characters, and has great continuity, If you watch it in chronological order that is.
    Next Star Wars show I’d say is pretty great is Star Wars: Rebels, not as Large scale as Clone wars but tells just as many great stories.
    Disney+ has given me a great opportunity to revisit most shows from my childhood, and I couldn’t be more thankful for getting it. Much more preferable than just finding a website where theirs no guarantee the episode you want to watch is available.

  • @Nautolan77
    @Nautolan77 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It may sound weird but I feel like the « weak » arcs (the younglings, the Mandalorian tea plot, even the Jar Jar episodes) improve the quality of the series but only as a whole. I don’t mean that they are as good as the rest, I mean that the universe shown gets more complete. While they bring less action scenes, they allow the best episodes to stand out even more when you binge watch a season. It’s the principle of a filler episode actually, to show you Something different but not useless, while the « main plot » can breathe

  • @Alex_Ertl
    @Alex_Ertl 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    In my opinion, the best episodes and arcs of The Clone Wars are the best pieces of modern Star Wars, hands down.
    I was the target demographic for The Clone Wars when it came out: I was an 8 or 9 year old when the movie came out and season one debuted. I was instantly hooked on the series, it became a family tradition to watch the new Clone Wars episodes in the basement every Friday night. As time went on the series and I grew up together and as I was able to understand more complex concepts, the show introduced them to us. Not many shows can do that.
    It's sad The Clone Wars has to come to a finite end on the screen. I'm sure we all wish they could make more episodes but it's hard to cram over 150 episodes worth of story into three years. I'm just thankful we're able to have this last hurrah in 2020.

    I'd say it doesn't usually reach the same peaks as the first 6 movies, but it is pretty consistent compared to the prequels. There were very few episodes I hated. Some are skippable but most of the time there's at least some redeeming quality.

    I think the best arc to show someone would be Umbara or the Obi-Wan under cover arc. Those avoid spoilers that the Maul or Rouge Ahsoka arcs would have, while still showing just how much the show is capable of. Umbara presents great Clone interactions and is a perfect introduction to them, as well as looking at themes of war and what it means to be a soldier indoctrinated against your will.
    Meanwhile, the Obi-Wan arc has amazing moments for both of the prequels' main protagonists, shows Anakin slipping to the dark side, shows the Jedi Council being dirty, and shows Palpatine manipulating everything.
    Is The Clone Wars the best Star Wars? I think you could certainly make an argument for it, arguing that it does everything ANH and Empire does, as good (if not better), and more. At the very least, I'd wager it's in the top 3 with ANH and Empire.
    Even in its "weaker" episodes, like the Senate ones, it does something at Star Wars' core: political themes and commentary. Watching the show as an adult vs. as a kid has really changed my perspective of *many* "dud" episodes
