Today we are revisiting Disturbed after listening to their Sound Of Silence a few months ago. This time I chose Down With The Sickness because of few mysterious comments. And well. I did not expect this. My reaction is priceless. Me, vocal coach, singer or dramaturg did NOT see this coming.

This is the "cleaner" radio/music video version of the song. No pun intended, but the more disturbed verses of this song were cut from the radio/music video version because of references to violence. David, the vocalist, sings from the perspective of the abuse victim. I figured "Down With The Sickness" was a reference to child abuse but some say it's an analogy for the goverment abusing its people.

I say its literal, but more mental illness, madness as a coping mechanism
I believe the song is literally from the perspective of a child abuse victim, but it is also a metaphor for bigger picture abuses.
That said, the uncut version makes for amazing reactions when it gets to the 'mommy' section. Was disappointed to see the radio version here.
@@busslayer4790 I totally agree but, I worry when people are getting into Disturbed that the full length version may... well, disturb them. I would love to see people react to more than the 2 songs.
Everyone does the same shit, Sound of Silence, expecting Metal and blah blah, then they all react to Sickness or Land of confusion... which I wont get into. Disturbed is one of my favs and hate seeing people get turned off with out digging deeper you know what I mean?

Ironically, the radio station where i live still plays the full edited version.
This is the DISTURBED we have been talking about. This is their NORM, but they are very versatile. IMO that is.

I'm glad David's been able to maintain the health of his voice despite how rough his vocal chords had it early in his career. He suffers from GERD and had a deviated septum from his nose being broken multiple times, so he usually spent the majority of his mornings repairing the damage done to his throat just from sleeping. His acid reflux has gotten to the point where the top opening of his stomach can no longer close, so he has to sleep sitting up or risk having acid spill into his esophagus. Thankfully, his septum has since been fixed, so there's that at least.
If you want more Disturbed, I suggest "Remember". In this song David's vocals are mostly clean and melodic. Beautiful tune.
I totally agree with you. When Disturbed fans suggest their songs to many reactors, that one is rarely suggested, but one of their most beautiful songs.
Damn.... I'm glad that TH-cam decided to suggest this. Katriinka has a beautiful smile and when she was just jamming to the song and smiling, the hotness rating went through the roof! and I usually hate reaction videos but her reaction was so genuine.

Recommendation for covers: Land of Confusion, by Disturbed and originally by Genesis. Very political songs, especially including the original music videos. Original video done by the Still Life puppet guys, cover video done by Todd McFarland of Spawn comic book fame.

If you want something melodic from David Draiman, listen to "Darkness", it's a song from his second album ( "Believe") , beautiful and underrated.
Land of Confusion and 10,000 Fists were great ones on that album.
In 2020 Disturbed did a cover of "If I ever lose my faith in you" originally by Sting

The first time that I heard this song it ripped my soul out and slammed it back into my body. There are a lot of songs that have touched me, but few songs have grabbed me like this one

This song is definitely the song to listen to either before or after you listen to ‘The Sound Of Silence’. You can see why the took the world by surprise with their incredible cover.
P.S., not to make things all weird, but you are absolutely gorgeous in such a natural way. So many utuber’s are caked with makeup. You are refreshing and positively beautiful. Weird moment over.

I wish people would stop reviewing the sanitized version of this song - it makes a nonsense of it.
Not just that, this version lacks a lot of the manic energy it should have. It feels like they're not excited to be there lol.
Other versions or when I've seen them live it's more energetic.

Thats just what comes up first. People that are not familiar with the band won't know this and will react to whatever pops on first with the suggested name
You have to keep in mind that TH-cam's staff is a bunch of sensitive snowflakes, they couldn't handle the real version. Probably the only reason you can find it on TH-cam at all is because channels upload it for the song not the views

For one song, two singers check out "Rolling in the Deep" by Adelle and the live cover by Linkin Park (2011 iTunes Festival in London). It was the only time LP covered anything and it was amazing.

Loved the reactions I have loved this song since I was a kid its so hard and the drums are intense
In an interview the lead singer said that originally there was a dramatic pause before going into the initial verse, and one day during practice he did the “oh wa ah ahah” randomly and the whole band just went crazy for it
I saw Disturbed Live last year, they were amazing live! The sound of silence along with Down with the Sickness.....pure amazingness!

I noticed a comment on more than one occasion at different reaction videos about David's voice. Asked if he wanted a voice of a demon or an angel....his answer, Yes! Considering he was trained as a Cantor in synagogue at a very young age. David stated in one if his interviews he had apparently gotten his powerful voice from his Grandfather....His father also trained but without the same power. I'm 64...and very much a fan of David Draiman/Disturbed and all of their music. SOS is my nightly Lullaby.

For two singers one song I would suggest Guilt Machine- Twisted Coil (sung by Jasper Steverlink) and the live version off of Ayreon: The Electric Castle Live (sung by Damian Wilson). Both Ayreon and Guilt Machine are projects by Arjen Anthony Lucassen but the two performers bring different things to the song. Loving your channel and the energy you bring to your reactions.

David (lead singer) also has been working with another band Of his. It's called Device. It's Industrial Metal. He has such a great range of what he can sing. I love his voice either way. So everyone here....check out Device if you have not yet.

I've a metal pub in my hometown. They literally play all sorts of metal there, mostly death, black, trash metal or grind core. But when THIS comes up, everyone GETS DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS. Everyone starts hammering on the tables in the rythm, and we start singing the whole lyrics, most power of course in the refrain. It is always powerful, always magical.

Love your reaction! The Sickness (the album this song was on) was the first metal album I ever owned, back in 2000. I listened to it soooo hard. It was my gateway into metal, and I never looked back. There are some more amazing songs on there, a bit more raw than their later albums.
