December 19th 1957, The Music Man opens on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre. Ah to have been there ! Willson's valentine to his childhood with two perfect songs sung first and then sung again in counter melody. Brilliant.
I’ve always loved the song but I was kind of waiting for the vignettes to fade away, revealing the two sets to be neighboring one another, and the Buffalo Bills to stroll over to Shirley Jones for the closing verses. _Edit:_ I guess that can’t happen in the context of the film since the place where Harold Hill is staying can’t really be next door to Marion’s home but it’s a movie so it wouldn’t necessarily have to make sense.
My father used to walk around singing this song. It takes me back to my childhood in the 1960's! Miss ya, Dad!
I bet he did a great job singing it too.
@@wurly164 Well ... 😄
How'd he hit those high notes?....Oh, you meant he sang the "Lida Rose" song.....
They don’t make ‘em like this anymore
I agree!
Correct!
They sure don’t!
when she starts harmonizing with the barber shop quartet 3:46, this is what musical theater is made of !
American musical theater is one of the great achievements of mankind. Oh, and Shirley Jones is smoking buttoned-down hot in this film.

Hearing this for the first time makes Storm Front's performance way more impressive than it already was
😏

Randy Rainbow brought me here 🇺🇸 Thanks for the music 🙂 🎶🙏🏼 💞
Me too, but I think his version is better and he edits all his own harmonies himself. ❤❤❤
@@sandrafraser7015 I LOVE his whole catalogue. He’s an amazingly beautiful and talented "stable geeneeus” 🎶 🏳️🌈💞🪩🥰
A truly lovely, magical moment in American musical history!
Thank you for sharing this. I think of my grandpa when I hear it. I hope I have many years left to sing it with him.
For the memory of my mom who sang this when I was sick. ❤
3:41 best part!

Will the romance ever return?❤

My family loves singing this together (we choose an easier key for the ladies)
