I do love that Balgruff asks you to try and help mend his relationship with his son, then you just completely forget to do that, he never follows up on it, you scurry off with a vampire katana and leave the family as dysfunctional as you found it. 😂

Daedric Princes don't possess a lot of humility so it could take a long time for Mephala to humble herself to ask for it back.

From stealing each other's relics, to targeting their chosen champions, to invading each other's territories and muscling in on their domains
The thing about Mephala is, she only speaks truths... Albeit the truths she speaks are venomous in nature, meant to corrupt those who are willing to listen. This is esoecially the case with Jarl Balgruuf with the whole issue around his children and his relationship with them, as well as the potential idea that he himself had used the Ebony Blade himself. That would give him more of a connection to Mephala, and in that she would have had a more intimate connection with him. Not able to accept that he was capable of such things. Locking it away so it can't hurt anyone. Sort of a self-fulfilling prophesy. The ebony blade isn't a sword that makes you kill people. Its a sword that was used to kill someone trusted, and has been infused with that betrayal
For anyone interested in this questline, I highly recommend the mod The Whispering Door - Quest Expansion. It gives you more options, including an approach that can end with you breaking Mephala's (or as the mod's banner amusingly calls her, "ASMR Lydia") hold on Nelkir and at least partially defusing the family drama between him and his father. There's another mod called Mephala's Curse which in addition to this causes the Ebony Blade itself to afflict you with a curse that has an increasing negative impact on you until you either succumb to its influence and kill someone who trusts you or destroy it in the lava of the Aetherium Forge, Lord of the Rings style. It's pretty cool.
The Aetherium Forge. Huh, I never thought about that or it's possible effects on the ebony blade. Much hotter and more intricate in its workings than the Skyforge.
A small but notable detail regarding Dragonsreach not mentioned in this video is the skeleton permanently floating in the water under the bridge to the castle. The game provides no explanation whatsoever, so there's various player speculation about its origin story.
I gotchu man, that skeleton floating in the water is, I’m pretty sure, a former business partner of Maven Black Briair, they had a falling out, eventually he wanted to mend the relationship, Maven said sure and sent someone to assassinate him, dumping him in the water below the bridge. Now you probably already figured this out by now, but still, lol.
10:39 I believe they are all referred to as "Daedric Prince" regardless of the pronoun they choose to be called and form they choose to take (as Daedra do not have gender).
They don't technically have a physical form and can appear however they wish yeah, it gets even more complicated when you learn about their connection to their realms. For other daedra creating a realm of Oblivion requires a lot of them and it's hard work, but a Prince's realm can effortlessly shift to their slightest whim to the point where their realm may very well be a part of them as much as the shape they choose to assume when dealing with mortals.
I mean some languages (like spanish) have the male suffix as the default/ general term A brother is your hermano A sister is your hermana Your brother and sister are your hermanos -spanish 2 graduate
I suspect that when referring to a "Daedric Prince" the word is used in the older meaning, that of a ruler, monarch, a souvereign, etc. Of course, the word was most commonly applied to males, but it wasn't actually a gender specific word, and so has been used historically about female rulers.
Skyrim is full of sturdy chests and strong metal safes. You would think something this dangerous that they really didn't want anyone to get their hands on would have better security than just sitting out on a table behind a rickety old wooden door.
it kind of makes sense though. something so disturbing and horrific they dont want to touch it. it feels very much like a panic placement to just have it dealt with and never think about it again
@@artifalse put the chest under the table and nudge it down with a stick. Then put the chest into a storage room with lots of other things, all the way in the back under and behind many more chests.
The room was sealed with magic aswell, magic so powerful that even a god like being like Mephala can't see past it. It was however, dumb of them to keep the keys around. They should have melted down the keys.
I feel like Mephala's sphere when it comes to lies only applies as a method of survival. It is one of the many things she taught the Dunmer in order to help them outwit and outmaneuver their enemies.
I used the Ebony Blade during Boethiah’s quest to betray and kill Ralis Sedarys, the little twit from the mission where you fund the excavation of the Nordic barrow on Solstheim and then gets possessed and kills all the miners and begs you too keep quiet about it. I’d like to think I ruined Ebony Blade’s magic for Mephala by using it for justice.
Well I was wondering why Fizhy decided to make these videos when Epicnate (cool guy), Fudgemuppet, and camelworks alone have already done videos on these topics years ago, now I realized why.
Remembered finding this blade the first time I played Skyrim, creepy as hell. But I also have been playing Morrowind for the first time recently and found it was also carried by an irc. These artifacts like to show up in the strangest ways.
I have an idea that might make some sense as to why Balgruff and Farengar don't react to you holding the blade. It's a part of the same magic involved when killing someone with the blade: others who don't wield it don't recognize it when seen unless they wield it themselves. It could explain why the Skyforge is mentioned, someone must've plunged the blade into the forge before locking it up at the request of the Jarl and Farengar. And it's not like no one can see what you're wearing or have equipped such as destruction spells and such. The fact no one calls you out speaks loudly.
I remember wondering for the longest time how complete this quest when I first played this game And when I got the ebony blade, I'd already got to the point where I didn't need it for any reason
Please keep covering Skyrim’s Mysteries, I am loving this series and can’t wait to see you cover more Mysteries in the future! Amazing Video as always!
The Daedria princess of Deception just phoning it in for this game. Going from starting blood feuds to just chilling behind a door messing up father-son relationships. Then if you take the blade, she doesn't ask you to do anything. She's just along for the ride.
@@jaythewriter7625 Is it too much to ask the dark forces of the universe to at least put some effort in? If you're going to lure someone into damnation, put a little style into it. :)
I remember back in the PS3 days this was the most cursed quest in all of Skyrim. And that's a pretty damn bold statement to make when it comes to the PS3 version of Skyrim! Pretty much every stage of it had a very high chance of corrupting the PS3 save file and rendering that file completely unplayable. It was advised to turn off all autosaves and instead make separate hard saves before finishing and starting each stage of the quest. It was also notoriously bugged, often being impossible to complete or even begin in some cases. Bethesda being Bethesda, they probably left the quest in such an unstable state after cutting it back so much and of course they just left it in the game in that condition, never to be fixed. PS3 Skyrim days were very dark days!
I think the biggest lie is that Nelkir has a different mother. In my head cannon Balgruff used to wield the ebony blade as a gift from his housecarl from her time as a Mephala worshiper, the Jarl's father bedded Balgruff's wife producing Balgruff's half brother Nelkir and Balgruff slew his own wife and father with the ebony blade and passes his brother as his son. This way the scandal is seedier but Balgruff still seems a decent fellow by medieval standards. I think Mephala influenced the affair to happen as a way of getting a normally honorable man to commit uxoricide and patricide. Loved the video btw.
What if she brought the blade from her sanctuary? The House carl is very protective of them and she’s a past assassin. Maybe she had blade and she lost control and hurt his wife. Maybe she secretly in love with him, maybe her and his wife were very good friends and she was very close friends with him, maybe when she killed his wife, she got pardoned and they locked blade away assuming it was the blade that caused her to do the damage, these things probably not likely but I find it interesting
Irileth does bother Jarl Balgruuf about him visiting the tavern at night for whatever reason. She is either very protective of him because she fears assasins, or she has feelings for him.
@@ElyssaCaouettedavies we also can't tell how old Irileth is because Mer live longer than Men thus age "better". She likely has a complicated past she's trying to redeem. Her affection for Balgruuf could be romantic, friendly but also motherly. Whatever the case, I agree with you, Morag Tong is under protection of Mephala and Irileth used to be in Morag Tong. I find it hard to believe that developers didn't have plans for Irileth in regards to Mephala's Ebony Blade.
Even though I have watched other youtubers delve into this, I think I enjoyed your exploration the most. You covered everything I remember others have covered but the delivery was more enjoyable. Please can I have some more!
Switch is a strong word, I’m just building up the library fairly sharpish to begin with then it’ll sit more flush with my other content but it’s certainly a game for renewing my creativity and challenging my mind
I think i’ve come up with a theory of my own thats is probably a bit of a reach but I couldn’t help but comment here. I don’t expect anyone to read this whole thing but if you do, I appreciate it: I believe before our story of Dragonborn began, that Balgruuf allowed his children to explore and make friends in the other districts of Whiterun. But once dragons came back and Alduin’s threat was proven, he forced his children back into Dragonsreach where they had no choice but to venture out to different areas that they wouldn’t normally seek. And maybe out of retaliation and feeling bitter that his dad doesn’t let them see his friends anymore (like irl children are known to do), Nelkir decides to continue to talk to Mephala and eventually learn these “secrets.” My guess is that Balgruuf had a wife that was the mother to Dagny and Frothar and sometime after they were born she died from an unprecedented illness. And afterwards, Balgruuf chooses to cope with his grief in self-destructive ways: heavy drinking, engaging with promiscuous women, etc. And one of those women ends up bearing Nelkir, which he doesn’t want. Fast forward to him discovering the Ebony Blade while he’s still in a downward spiral from the passing of his wife, his denial of his own bastard child, and dealing with the many duties and stresses of being a Jarl and he kills his “mistress” with the Blade. One could argue that he killed her to keep the word from spreading around town that he got a non-noble woman pregnant. That’s my whole take on it atleast. I love all the other theories that other have discussed and I really wish this quest didn’t get cut short. Especially with how we get no further closure on Balgruuf and his children. Maybe even a few dialogue options where Balgruuf himself or Farengar reveal that they’re not surprised atleast one of the children discovered the basement since they’re all bored from not being able to hang outside of Dragonsreach anymore.
Daedric Prince (or Daedric Lord) is the correct term! The daedric princes are considered genderless, although they may take on various forms... Mephala in particular has been depicted with, *ahem*, both masculine and feminine characteristics.
Actually that's Boethia. Mephalla, also known as the webspinner is always feminine. In fact if you play elder scrolls online, during the summerset questline when you're in Artaeum you get to see Mephalla in person.
Dear Fizhy, I have watched every video you have made on the Fallout series, RDR1 and RDR2 and now I am enjoying your Skyrim videos. Please continue with them much love!
I mean it’s cool, but I have already heard all of this stuff from other TH-camrs like Fudgemuppet and Camelworks, Epicnate (he’s cool), TK’s Mantis, and the assortment of smaller fallout TH-camrs and TES ones like IL. The only thing this channel does that I watch it for is red dead because I like how he does that and with rdr2 lore I’d say this guy is like the Fudgemuppet from TES fan base equivalent to RDR2. Again, all of these topics, from this one to his latest TES video have been covered YEARS ago, and I’ve been watching these kinds of channels on said topics for years, there’s nothing Fizhy can upload lore wise I haven’t heard from others. I guess stay for the character or voice but it feels unproductive for me.
This sounds really chaosy to the point where if the ebony blade was placed in warhammer I wouldn’t even blink before labeling it an artifact of tzench (hell Mephala sounds like she’d fit perfectly as either a greater demon of tzench or even an alias for the god itself)
Hmm I like the idea that Legal wife becomes aware of secret affair, kills woman (or had her murdered - maybe the body under bridge). Balgruuf becomes despondent and Iraleth decides to take she has to take out the wife (she would be trusted by the wife and Balgruuf, lending to the story behind the blade) Or Balgruuf grows mad with grief and uses the blade, and murders the wife, Iraleth has to take the blade from him and explain to him the lore behind it. ××× Or Nelkir DOES have the same mother but Mephala uses some idea or obscure fact to make it SEEM like he doesn't. The info might technically be true but being a kid, the first idea to him would seem likeliest. (E.g. something about him is different, or perhaps he thinks he's being treated different and one possible explanation is that it's because he's "in a position that doesn't afford him equal treatment" aka a bastard child - so he runs with the idea even if it's NOT true, it just makes enough sense to SEEM true) This way Mephala has told no lies but thoroughly cloaked the family in deceit and treachery
Wonderful video and theory, For as many times as Bethesda made patches just to break mods or rereleased Skyrim entirely they could have gone back and actually finished some of their unfinished quests in the past decade and a half. "We needed more time" Yes in 2010. Edit. Also what if Irileth had the blade and used it to kill the jarl's wife because she was a threat to him. It would be a tragic betrayal. The sword would be put away and no one would speak of it again. Irileth would then have good reason to be paranoid everyone wants Balgruf dead if his own wife tried to kill him at some point.
I wonder how he obtained the blade in the first place? They seemed ignorant or surprised by it's power, as if it's a mystery to them. I guess the daderic prince never spoke to him? He just seems like the most recent owner and didn’t have it for very long before locking it away. If he had it for a while, wouldn't Irileth be another victim of it, or would know about him carrying around the cursed blade? And their desire and effort to destroy it makes him seem more the victim, or the Frodo-like character. A plot twist to the theory? ....his lover had it, maybe it had belonged to her previous lover/husband. Maybe she heard it whispering, exposing all the lies he told her, so she ended him and obtained it, then fled to Whiterun. She started up an affair, and became jealous of the Jarl's wife. She either used it on her directly and the Jarl ordered her executed for her crime, or he might have heard it whispering when he was with her and felled both women in a moment of madness. Then her child was brought to Dragonsreach. This would get all his kids to turn on him... and would cause tension between them as well, especially when they grow older because the one who is illegitimate wouldn't be considered a legitimate heir.
Just found you last night with a different video. Really impressed. My ES journey began with morrowind as a teenager. Oblivion is my favourite but Skyrim is eternal 😂
Different mother... A character or two, come to mind, regarding that. Though It'd be neat twist, if the child's mother was Mephala herself. XD (Since that kind of thing, does fall under her spheres) But it's just thought, nothing more.
No matter how many times i play Skyrim i still learn new things each time. This kid though made it so frustrating that you can't harm the kid's of Skyrim. Although i have in the past killed random peasants then adopted their daughters lol.
I know this has little to do here but can i just say, as overbearing as Irileth can be...that lady is a real friend. "That might be so, but it'll never stop me from trying.'" I can see why she's his bodyguard. Woman is dedicated and steadfast.
a fun bit of trivia, a few years ago I turned off the collision and went through the door to see if someone was on the other side and while the door is closed it's actually a chest of draws speaking to you as a placeholder.
My theory is Irileth brought the blade to Dragonsreach, and Mephala's influence with it. Mephala influenced the wife to betray Baalgruuf (maybe she cheated) leading to either divorce or possibly death (maybe involving the blade) and the Jarl maybe remarried or had another kid with a concubine out of wedlock. If remarried then perhaps the ex-wife returned to kill the new wife with the blade before dying herself. When Baalgruuf found the blade to be the source of these troubles, he locked it away oblivious to its influence still creeping through to anyone near the door.
What if, instead of the Yarl having used the Blade, what if the Blade was used on him, by his wife, the reason he rose to power? And in his grief and rage he drowned his sorrows in ale, and a lass, the Dark Childs mother?
I remember I placed the blade in the most obscure and difficult to access dungeon I could find after picking it up 😄 hiding the blade where no one else could find it
Great video! I realy like your storytelling method Approaching the theme slowly until the hidden secrets are revealed! Theory#1: Motive: Jealousy. The boy's mother was a servant in the palace. The Jarl's wife encountered Mephala and the blade while exploring the basement. The Deadra then spilled the beans of the afair. The Jarl's wife befriended the servant and then went bezerk on her with the Ebony Blade. The Jarl and the Wizard then had to put her down Theory#2 Switch the victim and the kliller. motive :ambition Mephala used her skill to amplify the ambition of the servant that Bulgruuf wanted only her and she should become the Jarl's wife.
One thing I have found you seem to do is miss attribute just what Deadric Artifacts are. They are not mundane items enchanted by a divine being, but a part of that being itself, same as the Daedric Realms, and the Deadra within them. That explains why the Artifacts can change dramatically from game to game. Also the Daedra have no inherent sex, so primce or princess are equally valid, and equally invalid, the typically in Indo European languages the "masculine" form is used more as the generic
Fuck I totally missed this quest sorry can't finish watching you've spoiled me enough until I saw the talking door I wasn't intersted in doing this on my own xDDD
I think I figured it out: Irileth brought the Ebony Blade with her to White Run when she was hired as a housecarl for Balgruuf. She gave it to him as a gift from her house, probably Hlaalu. Anyway, this was when Mrs. Balgruuf was pregnant with the other two Balgruuflings. Balgruuf then pulled a Trump and cheated on his pregnant wife with a random girl in town. After his wife gave birth, his side piece informed him that she, too, was about to pop. When this happened, Mrs. Balgruuf was none to pleased. This type of scandal is right up Mephala's alley. She encouraged him to bring his side piece to the castle with the baby. He did just that, but neither of these women was happy to meet the other. It was at this point when Mephala began whispering in his ear that they would conspire against him to take him down. Seeing no other option, he killed them both with the Ebony Blade. Irileth and Farengar are the only ones who know the truth. Irileth, being a devout follower of the web spinner, helped with the cover up. Farengar tried to destroy the weapon, but failed. He then locked it away, and only told Balgruuf. Irileth still thinks it was returned to Mephala.
It's technically "prince" because gender is an aesthetic choice for Daedric princes. Mephala and Azura usually choose female forms, and Sheogorath and Malacath usually choose male forms, but Boethia and several others seem to flip a coin before manifesting in Mundus.
Imagine trying to tell a non TES fan about this, I feel like they'd think we're BS'ing them 😂 "Yeah so the jarl's kid wants to kill him so we have to go investigate a TALKING DOOR that actually ends up essentially being the Elder Scrolls version of a prince of hell"
No matter how many thousands of hours one might have in Skyrim there's always something new you didn't know or see...truly an incredible and timeless masterpiece that now with add ons mods etc is now endless....if u love it as i do.
So there’s around 3 possibilities to the Nelkir debate: 1. Balgruuf cheated on his wife and then killed her or had her killed when she refused to go along with it. (Whether or both he used the ebony blade is not necessary to the conversation) 2. Balgruufs wife died of natural causes such as disease or something like that and Balgruuf had a one night stand which resulted in Nelkir and the reason no one mentions his wife is that Balgruuf is still dealing with the grief of his wife’s death. 3. If the Creation Kit is the case than either Balgruuf is from Alabama or Nelkir is secretly his brother who he took in and claimed as his son to cover up for why he’s caring for him.
the daedric princes are something i get confused with too, but they are called princes and not princesses although many if not all of them choose whether they appear male or female depending on who they appear to.
The thing that makes balgruuf suspicious is that theres a skeleton under the bridge in dragonsreach and not only that, farengar and balgruuf have the key to the door, which makes me think that after balgruuf killed whoever, or i assume nelkirs mother i think, he probably hired farengar to seal the ebony blade
He is described as the Balgruufs "brother" in the game files because the engine can only assign two children to any adult character in game. That is how broken it is. Probably during this revelation and figuring out a workaround that one of the devs came up with the storyline for the quest. Probably also why the quest never received resources at Bethesda under the dictatorship of Todd "it just works" Howard.
"...or is it Daedric princess?" Uhm, no. They have no sex. They might portray a certain sex to certain individuals, but those are only temporary corporeal forms. The idea of sex has no bearing on daedric existence.
There's a fun theory that all 3 kids are actually the Jarl's brother's kids, and the Jarl himself may in fact be gay if the comments that Nazeem's wife makes are to be taken literally.
I think jarl balgruuf now currently has a secret or at least on the down low relationship with irileth they’ve grown close since the Great War and he no longer has any wives that we know of I believe that comment she makes is double sided it’s true he could be killed by an enemy while at the bannered mare it could also be a sly way for her to remind him she’s got her eye on him if he returns to his old lucrative ways (edit) thank you for adding more to the elder scrolls community. It’s been rough these past few years waiting for a new game and trying to keep the community going is really tough. There’s some really great content creators that are doing just this. I promise every elder scrolls video you drop will be watched and appreciated ❤
Skyrim is so cosy and works well with the Fizhy style. I mean it immediately tells you what sort of thing you're dealing with. Not the only instance of something being categorised a particular way technically being a spoiler I've seen elemayo.
On top of the dark theory’s I have my own Lydia was the personal housecarl of Bugrufs wife ,when she was killed by her own husband in a drunken or corrupted rage for threshing to expose his affair Lydia was prepare to avenge her lady but was subdued by the guards Wanting to keep everything hush out of guilt shame or plain desperation Bulgruff had Lydia imprisoned which is why she seemingly appears out of no where when she becomes our housecarl. Taking the age of the children I’d say this tragedy would happen fairly recently perhaps 1 year to 6 months before the dragon born first comes to whiterun. During the events of the early main story Lydia is still in jail but not wanting to waste a potential asset to the cities defense jarl Bulgruf releases her on the condition she take a oath of silence on the tragedy to which a honorable shield maiden like Lydia would definitely accept. After the dragon is slain and the Dragon born named thane of whiterun Bulgruff assigns Lydia to our service which could be seen as effective banishment from court she can venture out and do good for the realm without spreading rumors or secrets about what happened.
The daedric gods are all princes. Even if the form they show to you is female. They can change their shape. They don't have a gender. They are beyond the mortal understanding. Quite literally beyond Mundus.
The blade actuelly does corrupt the weilder of it, especially after prolonged use of it. In ESO (A game i have extentsively played) there is a quest in a dungeon (crypt of Hearts 1 and 2 i think) were we learn of a Elf named Nerien'eth who (with his his wife) ran a school with dedicated (if not loyal) staff and students. The quest tells us however that at some point Nerient'eth discovered the Ebony Blade and it slowly began to change him with each use. The Blade made him believe his wife and their staff were planning to betray him eventually the Blade's ingluence reached a tipping point and Nerien'eth believd that his only true allie was Mephala. This resulted in him takeing up th Ebony Blade and using it for its intended purpose and killed evreyone in the school starting with his wife

One idea I like that I'm sure would be the case if the game allowed it, you don't just stand in front of the door, your listening at the keyhole, and mephala is actually whispering through.
That mod never leaves my LO. >:)
Is this available on console or just pc??
@@CharismaGoldStar I'm afraid I don't know, sorry. I play on PC
@@TheZombifiedGuy that's alright thanks anyway
I’ve also always wondered about that skeleton!
"Sometimes I think even his own children want him dead", oh if only she knew just how right she is ...
10:39 I believe they are all referred to as "Daedric Prince" regardless of the pronoun they choose to be called and form they choose to take (as Daedra do not have gender).
Ah yes.
Wo-man.
Sorry, shit joke, but I laugh every time because I'm stupid.
I mean some languages (like spanish) have the male suffix as the default/ general term
A brother is your hermano
A sister is your hermana
Your brother and sister are your hermanos
-spanish 2 graduate
I suspect that when referring to a "Daedric Prince" the word is used in the older meaning, that of a ruler, monarch, a souvereign, etc. Of course, the word was most commonly applied to males, but it wasn't actually a gender specific word, and so has been used historically about female rulers.
Don't care I'd still let Nocturnal hit.
Honestly there’s some disturbing dialogue in Skyrim but a kid basically telling you to off the court wizard was pretty wild 😂
That's pretty clever
When it comes to Daedric Princes, the Prince is best thought of as 'principal' rather than like a prince/princess.
and considering both come from princeps, a shortened form of princeps senatus.
Sweet. A video to watch while I play skyrim for the nth time.
Nth is accurate
Just started playing Skyrim for the first time.
Please keep these coming.
Man I wish I could play it again for the first time
Dude, you are going to have the time of your life!! Go slow, take it all in, the game is outstanding!
Fizhy this series is giving my elderscrolls addiction a wonderful boost
Man you keep covering all my favorite games!! Thankya sirrrr
Thank you for watching!
Bro is speedrunning Skyrim's mysteries and it's glorious, thanks mate
No speed running, just no lifing for a bit :)
@@FizhyObviously 😂
I have an idea that might make some sense as to why Balgruff and Farengar don't react to you holding the blade. It's a part of the same magic involved when killing someone with the blade: others who don't wield it don't recognize it when seen unless they wield it themselves. It could explain why the Skyforge is mentioned, someone must've plunged the blade into the forge before locking it up at the request of the Jarl and Farengar. And it's not like no one can see what you're wearing or have equipped such as destruction spells and such. The fact no one calls you out speaks loudly.
I remember wondering for the longest time how complete this quest when I first played this game
And when I got the ebony blade, I'd already got to the point where I didn't need it for any reason
"Why is a door taking to this child? Turns out he was a chicken chaser..."

They do all their stuff for their own amusement, so makes sense
@@jaythewriter7625 Is it too much to ask the dark forces of the universe to at least put some effort in? If you're going to lure someone into damnation, put a little style into it. :)
skyrim was a big part of my childhood, glad to see you making videos on it
The Daedric Princes are my favourite part of The Elder Scrolls. They are just so cool.
@ I always thought she might’ve had a thing for him or just cares about him a lot
I haven't missed a single one of these since you started doing them. I get the feeling you may have accidentally picked up meridas beacon irl 😂
ANOTHER HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON
Got over the skyrim itch years ago but ill never stop loving the lore, Big thanks Fizhy
Even though I have watched other youtubers delve into this, I think I enjoyed your exploration the most. You covered everything I remember others have covered but the delivery was more enjoyable. Please can I have some more!
Good choice of game series to switch to
Switch is a strong word, I’m just building up the library fairly sharpish to begin with then it’ll sit more flush with my other content but it’s certainly a game for renewing my creativity and challenging my mind
I think i’ve come up with a theory of my own thats is probably a bit of a reach but I couldn’t help but comment here. I don’t expect anyone to read this whole thing but if you do, I appreciate it:
I believe before our story of Dragonborn began, that Balgruuf allowed his children to explore and make friends in the other districts of Whiterun. But once dragons came back and Alduin’s threat was proven, he forced his children back into Dragonsreach where they had no choice but to venture out to different areas that they wouldn’t normally seek. And maybe out of retaliation and feeling bitter that his dad doesn’t let them see his friends anymore (like irl children are known to do), Nelkir decides to continue to talk to Mephala and eventually learn these “secrets.”
My guess is that Balgruuf had a wife that was the mother to Dagny and Frothar and sometime after they were born she died from an unprecedented illness.
Hope you’re enjoying making the Skyrim content as much as we all enjoy seeing it! Great videos as usual man!
You have to make a full lore video around Nazeem, That would go insanely hard
"Not a talking door at all" idk sleep deprivation made me laugh. Glad you're doing skyrim content your story telling ability is great
10:37 The daedric princes are canonically genderless they just choose to portray themselves, male or female, but they are all called Daedric Princes
Ngl I always forget the main quest so I never get around to it until like level 30. I activate dragons and leave them hanging
@@BansheeKing22 look up Michael Kirkbride Mephala
Loving these Skyrim video's i love the lore and you're voice is so relaxing.
When I wasn’t racist, I used to ship Irileth with Balgruuf
This sounds really chaosy to the point where if the ebony blade was placed in warhammer I wouldn’t even blink before labeling it an artifact of tzench (hell Mephala sounds like she’d fit perfectly as either a greater demon of tzench or even an alias for the god itself)
Hmm I like the idea that
Legal wife becomes aware of secret affair, kills woman (or had her murdered - maybe the body under bridge).
Balgruuf becomes despondent and Iraleth decides to take she has to take out the wife (she would be trusted by the wife and Balgruuf, lending to the story behind the blade)
Or Balgruuf grows mad with grief and uses the blade, and murders the wife, Iraleth has to take the blade from him and explain to him the lore behind it.
×××
Or Nelkir DOES have the same mother but Mephala uses some idea or obscure fact to make it SEEM like he doesn't. The info might technically be true but being a kid, the first idea to him would seem likeliest. (E.g. something about him is different, or perhaps he thinks he's being treated different and one possible explanation is that it's because he's "in a position that doesn't afford him equal treatment" aka a bastard child - so he runs with the idea even if it's NOT true, it just makes enough sense to SEEM true)
This way Mephala has told no lies but thoroughly cloaked the family in deceit and treachery
There’s another and older theory on TH-cam that says the second woman might have be Delphine.
Why would he bang Delphine?
The blade 100% corrupts similar too umbra
Wonderful video and theory, For as many times as Bethesda made patches just to break mods or rereleased Skyrim entirely they could have gone back and actually finished some of their unfinished quests in the past decade and a half. "We needed more time" Yes in 2010.
Edit. Also what if Irileth had the blade and used it to kill the jarl's wife because she was a threat to him. It would be a tragic betrayal. The sword would be put away and no one would speak of it again. Irileth would then have good reason to be paranoid everyone wants Balgruf dead if his own wife tried to kill him at some point.
15:29 Wait, why not? Handing the ebony blade over to your enemies would be an effective use of it.
Anyone also wondering if the blade made him end is wife’s life?
Nice, cool videos
Just found you last night with a different video. Really impressed.
My ES journey began with morrowind as a teenager. Oblivion is my favourite but Skyrim is eternal 😂
Different mother... A character or two, come to mind, regarding that.
Though It'd be neat twist, if the child's mother was Mephala herself. XD (Since that kind of thing, does fall under her spheres)
But it's just thought, nothing more.
Real ones never did the quest and just wooden plate glitched in and out to get the blade.
What if, instead of the Yarl having used the Blade, what if the Blade was used on him, by his wife, the reason he rose to power? And in his grief and rage he drowned his sorrows in ale, and a lass, the Dark Childs mother?
I remember I placed the blade in the most obscure and difficult to access dungeon I could find after picking it up 😄 hiding the blade where no one else could find it
Wonder if methala is actually her mom in a zeus like fashion
Great video! I realy like your storytelling method Approaching the theme slowly until the hidden secrets are revealed!
Theory#1: Motive: Jealousy.
The boy's mother was a servant in the palace. The Jarl's wife encountered Mephala and the blade while exploring the basement. The Deadra then spilled the beans of the afair. The Jarl's wife befriended the servant and then went bezerk on her with the Ebony Blade. The Jarl and the Wizard then had to put her down
Theory#2 Switch the victim and the kliller. motive :ambition
Mephala used her skill to amplify the ambition of the servant that Bulgruuf wanted only her and she should become the Jarl's wife.
It's not Mephala, it's an angry chest of drawers behind the door 😆
Fuck I totally missed this quest sorry can't finish watching you've spoiled me enough until I saw the talking door I wasn't intersted in doing this on my own xDDD
I think I figured it out:
Irileth brought the Ebony Blade with her to White Run when she was hired as a housecarl for Balgruuf.
Imagine trying to tell a non TES fan about this, I feel like they'd think we're BS'ing them 😂
"Yeah so the jarl's kid wants to kill him so we have to go investigate a TALKING DOOR that actually ends up essentially being the Elder Scrolls version of a prince of hell"
don't people know Nakir is the Jarl's brother?
Also I think the blade just finds it's way to the corrupt or corruptable
Just found this channel. So so glad I did. Good stuff brother 👍
Whew. It is a SLOG to just get through Mephala’s dialogue. Not only does she have A LOT to say, she also talks at half speed like a heroin addict.
No matter how many thousands of hours one might have in Skyrim there's always something new you didn't know or see...truly an incredible and timeless masterpiece that now with add ons mods etc is now endless....if u love it as i do.
What cloak is that?
The play is always to give the blade to a madman so it cancels out. Simple arithmetic, really.
The game knows the true madman is the player.
Red Dead redemption GTA Skyrim fallout doesn't matter the game. Your lore videos are always Top Tier
My head cannon says they kill him after the dragonborns turn as the main protagonist
So there’s around 3 possibilities to the Nelkir debate:
1. Balgruuf cheated on his wife and then killed her or had her killed when she refused to go along with it. (Whether or both he used the ebony blade is not necessary to the conversation)
They could've put a woman into one of the test cells and assigned him to that person.
Hypotheses, not theories.
"...or is it Daedric princess?"
Uhm, no.
I think jarl balgruuf now currently has a secret or at least on the down low relationship with irileth they’ve grown close since the Great War and he no longer has any wives that we know of I believe that comment she makes is double sided it’s true he could be killed by an enemy while at the bannered mare it could also be a sly way for her to remind him she’s got her eye on him if he returns to his old lucrative ways
(edit) thank you for adding more to the elder scrolls community. It’s been rough these past few years waiting for a new game and trying to keep the community going is really tough. There’s some really great content creators that are doing just this. I promise every elder scrolls video you drop will be watched and appreciated ❤
Every Daedric Prince is just that, regardless of gender. Every single one of them are princes. Just wanted to clear that up.
... thanks
Skyrim is so cosy and works well with the Fizhy style. Shame the game itself doesn't quite go all the way but it's cool seeing it all wrapped together in these videos :D
The fact this quest gets categorised/identified in your log as a Daedric Quest and that's kind of a mild spoiler is pretty funny. I mean it immediately tells you what sort of thing you're dealing with. Not the only instance of something being categorised a particular way technically being a spoiler I've seen elemayo.
These Skyrim videos make me want some videos on other Bethesda games but I’m definitely not complaining about getting Skyrim
On top of the dark theory’s I have my own
Lydia was the personal housecarl of Bugrufs wife ,when she was killed by her own husband in a drunken or corrupted rage for threshing to expose his affair Lydia was prepare to avenge her lady but was subdued by the guards Wanting to keep everything hush out of guilt shame or plain desperation Bulgruff had Lydia imprisoned which is why she seemingly appears out of no where when she becomes our housecarl.
Shitty theory
The daedric gods are all princes. Even if the form they show to you is female. They can change their shape. They don't have a gender. They are beyond the mortal understanding. Quite literally beyond Mundus.
The deadrussy goes crazy lol
Wait, the journal marks daedric quests?
Absolutely LOVING these videos. Keep it up, Fizhy!
came across that door on one of my previous play throughs and found many videos about how to open it some after Balgruff is removed as Jarl after the civil war, but now i know it could be opened before then if i'm levelled up enough
they should have made the quest more interesting by the quest bring strife to whiterun and us the Dragonborn having to stop mephala`s influence
One idea I like that I'm sure would be the case if the game allowed it, you don't just stand in front of the door, your listening at the keyhole, and mephala is actually whispering through. I also very much like the implication of how she presents herself to the dragonborn. I imagine she can manifest Behind The Door. I don't in that room, or any room, I mean the space that exists behind any door to an empty room
