Thanks for the vid gio. Crazy story. Alcohol and western entitlement i beleive is the problem. Some of these guys think they are christopher columbus going to these other places. Phils needs to make foreigners scared of jail the way they do in thailand.
When I was living in Costa Rica, 2 teenage locals tried to rob a group of seniors on a day tour from the cruise ship (port of Limon). Unfortunately for the robbers 1 senior was a former marine & he killed 1 of the robbers with a choke hold. The marine was cleared same day at the police station & the cruise ship took a vote to continue with their voyage. Moral of the story, don't mess with a marine!! 💯

Hi Geo, I have been in the Philippines , Cebu City and other places for about 40 years and your video just highlights my feelings, I never associate with foreigners unless they are my clients I feel it is better and never go to Bars and drink, I sit at the coffee shop and watch the foreigners all day but usually do not try and interact with them as they will come and sit with me and say are you an american and I say yes and about the time a young girl walks buy and they make a crude comment to her like,, Oh baby you got a nice A++ I just get up and leave because I do not want people to think that I am one of those ugly foreigners , now granted MOST are not that way but there are a lot of them
Night life in Chiang Mai doesn't start until I'm getting ready for bed. And even then it's mostly young, foreign backpackers, not my crowd. Good stuff Gio.
Hi Gio,good idea to avoid this kind of chaos. The spirit of alcohol kick in that’s too bad. It should be happy retirement life. Life is to short . Hoping for all the expat to retire in the Philippines Peacefully and happily. We welcome you all guys to choose our Country to live and retire as it is a beautiful country to enjoy the beauty of the Nature. God bless you all.
Bar fights? Seriously? These guys could have just stayed at home. You can just get into bar fights in your own country (e.g., USA) and save money on plane fare.
I hear you.. Dealing with the fallout for several years. Working as a housekeeping manager. At a hotel just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. With a popular bar. Back 20 years ago.
Gio, I enjoy visiting Dumaguete for a few days at a time, acting like a fly on the wall I have overheard of some foreigners acting up violently soaked to the gills on booze. That is why I am content to sit 5 or 6 empty seats away from anybody to have a beer and cheeseburger and fries. Keep up the good work.
Sorry to hear Gio. That story is nutz! I think the drama you describe is my biggest worry as I'm fairly social and want to learn about folks. But once you mix a lot of alcohol with people's attitudes, it's a recipe for disaster. I'm older, so I don't have an ego on this stuff, but it's amazing how many older guys puff out their egos when they get to the PI. I think it's the combination of finding women who pay attention to them and then feeling insecure when other men show up is a good reason for a lot of issues. When I was a kid with my family back in the day, we lived in the PI for a couple of years and most of the restaurants back then doubled as bars. I saw many a argument/fight over women :). Here's your homework Gio, get rid of the Duma-Drama before I retire 🤣. Keep up the great work!!
Hi Gio. Interesting video. One can witness the same or similar phenomena in other parts of South East Asia. Apart from physical violence and general anti-social behaviour there are plenty of expats around getting up to scams and white collar crimes targeting other foreigners. One should NOT assume that all expats are decent just because they come from one’s own cultural background. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 🦘
It's very wet here in Devon UK as well. It's hardly stopped raining all day and I got quite wet this morning. We also have a very strong and cold wind. Thanks for the great video Gio.
When I was in AC I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that there is a motorcycle gang( a bunch of retired foreigners) comprised of senior citizens still wanting to live that "outlaw" lifestyle; why??? Why not enjoy your life instead of wanting to cause trouble...in another country???
I gave up drinking more than one or two drinks at a time many years ago… always problems when too much is consumed and I avoid bars like the plague. Lol
So Gio outstanding report on drama dumagetti ! Yes I too have heard some really bad things that happened in Subic bay Barrio Baretto,, kinda sad how fast hatred spreads.
I never understood the concept of a bar, frankly. You pay 10x for the alcohol, not much to eat, and you're just asking for trouble from drunk people. Brilliant :)
Thank you for sharing this. It's always a bar and a woman. When I first got introduced to WHY NOT BAR the first thing I did was ask the manager was............ HOW MANY FIGHTS HAVE HAPPENED IN THIS BAR OVER THE PAST TWO MONTHS?? And she said....... 2
I also think living in a bigger city than Dumagette gives you more anonymity among foreigners. I just came back from 6 months in Cebu City and had no problems 😊
Always surround yourself with positive, easy going happy people. You don't need other people's shit in your life. BTW Gio, a rainy day in the Philippines is way better than a cold, dark, grey rainy day in the UK 😄
The situation of someone attempting to befriend my girlfriend/wife has never happened to me, but I have been the guy that made an honest mistake. Thinking it through, I should initially choose facts over confrontation, and explain that she has a relationship. This is because he could not have reasonably known that she was in a relationship. I should only become confrontational if he persisted.
This is why I say I would want to be some where as far away from other foreigners as possible. I would want to just relax, enjoy life, and not have drama added to my life. The bad thing is situations like this make all foreigners look bad. I agree with the Filipino commenters, they should be locked up until their court date, they've already proven to be violent criminals. Why would you let them back out on the streets and put other people's lives in danger. "IF" found guilty, they need to serve out the length of their sentence, when they're released from prison, they need to be deported and blacklisted. I have no sympathy for idiots.
Couldn't agree more! I live at Mango Square, but when my Fiancé and I do go out...rarely.... we go far from Mango Square, to upscale place where we can eat, have a drink or talk or sing. Find your own Happy Places wherever you are in the Philippines. Too many expats here are angry, hurt, lonely and DRUNK
I spent 19 years bartending.... still will not go to bars in evening even though in law enforcement now... plus anyone that uses a weapon except in war is a coward...
I am a Filipino woman who lived in the US for almost 20 and now retired with my American husband in Davao City. IMHO all these foreigners should be deported and blacklisted, including the marine who defended himself. All foreigners are just guests in this country. I expect you to behave not just to follow the law but to a higher level of decency. Sorry but these guys have over stepped their welcome. Time to leave and not be allowed to return. If they have a woman or kids they are supporting well they should have thought of them before behaving badly. I can't imagine a city like Dumaguete having people carry hand guns and brass knuckles to hurt someone else. Go home!!!
Gio thanks for your great work, you are so right about Mindanao CDO, just arrived back in the US this week. The locals are great and friendly people. My GF and I have a bar in downtown and cows in the province. She has a house uptown and 4 children (older) so we stay in her house unless traveling around. The cows are just pets haha. The locals often ask to take their picture with me and if they address me they call me by name. My GF will say I have known these people for years, they never ask for my picture. My GF often refers to me as her White Monkey haha term of endearment. Haha. Thanks for all the great information you provide, best to you and Mia
this is why i like living in laguna there are lots of expats here but we are so spread out the only time i see any is at a mall hell here in Cabuyao i dont even think there is a bar to hang out and drink been here a year never seen one i just drink with the locals at home
Average Filipinos first learned about Westerners from Hollywood movies and old military stories. Today it's from social media showing negative stuff from America like Kensington Ave or homeless in LA or Portland. Then the local stories like this one kind of bring it all home... Sad...
Yeah, 2 Brits, 1 American and a Canadian walk into a bar. What'll ya have, bartender asks? The Brits say Fish-n-chips. Food comes out, fish and potato chips. The Brits complain those aren't "Chips!" The American says, yes they! Then the fight starts!🤣 I know, kinda weak, but that's all I got off the top of my head.
I outgrew bars by the time I hit my early 30's. Taking a girlfriend to a bar is like chumming in shark infested waters, you're trolling for trouble. And, I don't drink often, but when I do it's margaritas. Many many moons ago when I did a detachment in Subic my favorite little bar was Margaritaville. It had maybe a dozen seats, 1 warped pool table, Buffet songs, and ptchers of margaritas for 200p.
Gio i learned something about my native land after 43 years lots of changes.way back then only american up there in the former colony now diversified wow
I honestly wish more foreigners grow up and be more mature and civil. I hope I never get jaded enough to where I try to avoid other foreigners. If anything we should be able to be friends and support each other, encourage one another etc. or at least be able to empathize or sympathize, seeing we have shared backgrounds and experiences most likely. I realize not everyone is a good person but dang.
I live here also and agree with you i typically only associate with locals way more chill also you can tell most epats here tend to think very highly of themselves i tend to not want to deal with that But thats bad they should be locked up for that
T Really? Don't think so especially when mugshots of them were shown on Social Media, they really looked mauled considering it was 4 against one, reminds me of Jack Reacher
Foreigners acting badly was the most embarrasing thing for me personally when I was living abroad. Foreigners always wonder why the locals don't like them or protest for us to go home...the situations you cite in your video is a prime example of why! If you are a foreigner remember respect each other, be on your best behavior and obey the laws and then there shouldn't be any issues/drama. I have heard several TH-cams saying that they are not looking to make friends and/or hangout with other foreigners because of all the drama...so sad! I think that many foreigner's feel entitled and they need to get over themselves.
I spend my time between Ilocos Norte and Lipa, Batangas, and will be visiting Dramaguete for the first time at the end of the month. It sounds like I'll have a lot to look forward to 🤣
I spent Nov. in Ph, have a condo in QC. Going there my flight from Japan to Manila was canceled because of a typhoon. So we were all going to get a sleeping bag, snacks and some money. They had a line and this American guy was first in line. So an elderly filipina I was talking to had a question and stepped up to ask the lady at the table. This dude started yelling at her very rudely. Yeah I wanted to slap him for embarrassing my country but how would that have looked to have 2 Americans going at it in a foreign airport. First of all she wasn't try to skip the line. Second the elderly in PH are respected and get to go to the front of the line. I've seen younger filipina's pull them out of line and take them to the front, the way it should be. So if your rude, have little/no patients and can't keep your mouth shut then don't go to PH. Go to PH if your happy😃. be a gentleman. Make your mom proud😅
I agree Sir. The senior citizens back home have a privilege most of the time wherever you go because there’s is a law in the Philippines that all seniors should be serve first that’s why they have a seniors line up. In any establishment in the Philippines there is always seniors booth to line up and to be serve first.
LOL, yep. When wife and I are walking the blvd, we always see this one foreigner that sits over by the 3 sisters statue that seems to always make a scene.
I've enjoyed meeting with the other foreigners here in Dumaguete. For the most part, they all wave if driving, or say, "hello" if close enough. The only reason anybody would be in the bars here is because of an alcohol problem, boredom, and/or loneliness. I don't run in those circles and don't have any of those dramas. Let's face it, those of us who found beautiful women who love us are perhaps lucky. I don't deserve this amazing woman, but she's in love with me and that's all I need. These guys in bars don't have what we have. I wish them happiness.
Jim, excellent comment. You brought up something that is the reality. You got lucky. That is all it is. It isn't something any man can achieve. You either get lucky or you don't. I am glad you did. However the majority of people on earth "don't" get lucky. Hence there is tremendous jealousy. The guys that didn't get lucky are hanging in the bars for most of their time. One problem is the foreigner Philippines vloggers will push the idea that any man can go to the Philippines and "get" a desirable filipina by following a process. Nope not the case. Things will happen only if you get lucky. I lived in Dumaguete 2016 - 2022. I would say 99% of the foreigners are with separated filipinas, or filipinas with children, or midgets (less than 5 feet tall). Now, back to the incident. I realize there are some hotheads but, murder? That is over the top. There have been some foreigners murdered by filipinos in Dumaguete. This is the first foreigner attempting to murder another foreigner that I have been aware of. Out on bail? firearms? Amazing. Where is the video? That would be interesting to see. I am curious why everything didn't get settled on the spot.
@@senseofstile There is no luck when it comes to matters of the heart. If a man thinks he can stay drunk, dress like a slob, smell bad, and have an all around bad attitude, then he will never find a good woman anywhere on earth. No sense in guys being jealous. Just invest by bettering yourself and eventually a good woman will come along. Maybe not a supermodel....but a good, caring woman. 🤔
Yeah I do think is the same as anywhere you make your own luck to a large degree, so that's why people with drink problems, in bars, are unlikely to be able to form/maintain relationships with women. Also self care as the other poster said.
I have to agree with you on German beer. Eine jagerschnitzel mit pommes frits und salat, und zwei grosse bier bitte. lol As for drinking, I don't drink as much now in a year, as I use to in a weekend as a 20-some soldier in Germany.
Have you noticed when a small airplane crashes it's front page news, but car crashes, not so much? All I know is that I saw a filipina chasing another filipina with a knife, caught a so called security guard atop stacked boxes near a window attempting to watch me showering with my gf, had my apartment robbed by a local neighbor; and at various times have been astonished by how many filipino men have served jail time...and then there was the not so well remembered case of the American Eric Hendrickson shot in the head 3 times with a .38 for politely refusing to buy locals drinks (in Silay City where Mr. Hendrickson was processing paperwork to adopt an orphan filipino child)...now mind you, I'm 100% NOT making excuses for expat bad behavior, but equivalent (or worse) incidents to Drama-Guete involving filipinos themselves seemingly gets minimal reaction - perhaps because it's about as newsworthy as just another car crash....
The common denominator is alcohol. PI needs to deport visitors who aren't adult enough to maintain civility. The few they deport sets a line not to cross / a standard for civility. The result is, as you said, foreigners who come to PI to live a peaceful life among peaceful people. They'll never miss the few troublemakers and certainly, fellow foreigners won't miss them either.
That's true, I was in CDO at a local restaurant and I was receiving dirty looks from some guy from Germany, but because I am what I am and kind of stocky , he never approached me or my pinay date at the time, so I understand how that can happen
It’s been 30 years since I was in the Philippines 🇵🇭 but back then I remember there was no shortage of shady characters. In fact Phils was a go to destination for people looking to get away from problems back in their home country. Naturally many of these types bring their problems with them. A drinking problem isn’t going to help you much in Phils or anywhere else. I’m with you Gio nothing wrong with a Margarita or Mohito in a tropical climate, just not 6 of them.
Hi Gio, we live out in the country-Jungle just west of Alfonso, Cavite. I don't see many foreigners here, although there are some. We mostly have get togethers with our local family and friends. We seldom go to bars just get together with people here. I also have a few TH-camrs that come for a visit. I love my life here in the Philippines. No drama here.
Am new subscriber my fellow american thanks for your service brother.you sounded pretty nice guy .my wife a beautiful american girl with 2 handsome boys .
That's a story that sounds familiar to me as a Silliman student in the 80s. Dumaguete is a quiet university town know for its most gentle and hospitable people who patiently put up with visitors' misbehavior. We brats from Manila, Cebu, Bacolod and other cities often got away with messy stuff that go with binge drinking - - and the Dumaguetenos just shrugged it off as they likely still do today. I owe the city an apology and I, too, cherish spending time or the rest of my life in this lovely town.
I always laugh when guys say how dangerous Davao City is because hordes of short little Filipinos are out to get you. Trust me you will always have more trouble hanging out with a lot of ex-pats than you will with Filipinos. I have never found Filipinos to be aggressive toward ex-pats. I am friendly as you can get but I really do not have any great desire to hang out w/ a bunch of ex-pats with bad attitudes That is 1 reason I like Davao City.
Live in a Cebu province and moving in next 4 months. Love everything about Dumaguete but way too many expats. They screw up and it hurts all foreigners reputation. Alcohol and bars equals trouble. Semper Fi Marines
Keep a low profile it's okay to have a few American friends but limit it because it adds into trouble get as many Filipino friends as possible because they will help you out in times of need
What bar? I'm bigger than most people, and a few foreigners have tried to start with me. I just got to walk away cuz I don't need trouble over there while I'm there.

Don't forget the ROIDS ,,, they are very often behind the agression
Trouble is a rainy day in the Philippines lasts for months
Wow , make the UK sound like a difficult time , in winter , ,
I'm glad I live in a city with very few foreigners and very few bars.
:-) yep
Go home!!!
Hi Mark, "An American, a Canadian & 2 British," Sounds like a Bad Joke😁
Sounds like international dispute. Lol
Thank you so much
this is why i like living in laguna there are lots of expats here but we are so spread out the only time i see any is at a mall hell here in Cabuyao i dont even think there is a bar to hang out and drink been here a year never seen one i just drink with the locals at home
Average Filipinos first learned about Westerners from Hollywood movies and old military stories. Today it's from social media showing negative stuff from America like Kensington Ave or homeless in LA or Portland. Then the local stories like this one kind of bring it all home... Sad...
Yea, sad indeed.
1 American, 1 Canadian and 2 British- sounds like the start of a bar joke.
Gio, your overall opinion was very insightful.. Take care and God bless
Love Buffet and margaritas 😋
I own a bar nightclub for 3 years and I will tell you now nothing good comes out of drinking.
Gio i learned something about my native land after 43 years lots of changes.way back then only american up there in the former colony now diversified wow
Your a good man I love your videos
I appreciate it 😊
Two British, American, and a Canadian is like a start of a bad joke lol
I honestly wish more foreigners grow up and be more mature and civil. I hope I never get jaded enough to where I try to avoid other foreigners.
If anything we should be able to be friends and support each other, encourage one another etc. or at least be able to empathize or sympathize, seeing we have shared backgrounds and experiences most likely.
I realize not everyone is a good person but dang.
I live here also and agree with you i typically only associate with locals way more chill also you can tell most epats here tend to think very highly of themselves i tend to not want to deal with that
But thats bad they should be locked up for that
These foreigners will be back in the bar bragging about the inncedent
T
Really? Don't think so especially when mugshots of them were shown on Social Media, they really looked mauled considering it was 4 against one, reminds me of Jack Reacher
Mark Thornton punched a guy at ground zero. Is mark Thornton going to get arrested? Going to jail?
Foreigners acting badly was the most embarrasing thing for me personally when I was living abroad. Foreigners always wonder why the locals don't like them or protest for us to go home...the situations you cite in your video is a prime example of why! If you are a foreigner remember respect each other, be on your best behavior and obey the laws and then there shouldn't be any issues/drama. I have heard several TH-cams saying that they are not looking to make friends and/or hangout with other foreigners because of all the drama...so sad! I think that many foreigner's feel entitled and they need to get over themselves.
@@BonVoyage861This is their country, not ours. these foreigners are idiots.
Great news. I have been lucky not witness anything like that. I am very mellow, and try to stay to myself, but still friendly
Hi Gio, Pastor PeeWee here! I just liked & subscribed to your channel:)
Good video ,
I spend my time between Ilocos Norte and Lipa, Batangas, and will be visiting Dramaguete for the first time at the end of the month. It sounds like I'll have a lot to look forward to 🤣
lol it isn't all bad here, there are a lot of positives.
In Dumaguete a lot of commutinies and things to do except bars...you find good things soon
LOL, yep. When wife and I are walking the blvd, we always see this one foreigner that sits over by the 3 sisters statue that seems to always make a scene.
I've seen it too.
Please tell me this type of thing is not common
I've enjoyed meeting with the other foreigners here in Dumaguete. For the most part, they all wave if driving, or say, "hello" if close enough.
The only reason anybody would be in the bars here is because of an alcohol problem, boredom, and/or loneliness.
I don't run in those circles and don't have any of those dramas.
Let's face it, those of us who found beautiful women who love us are perhaps lucky. I don't deserve this amazing woman, but she's in love with me and that's all I need.
These guys in bars don't have what we have. I wish them happiness.
Absolutely buddy
Jim, excellent comment. You brought up something that is the reality. You got lucky. That is all it is. It isn't something any man can achieve. You either get lucky or you don't. I am glad you did. However the majority of people on earth "don't" get lucky. Hence
there is tremendous jealousy. I would say 99% of the foreigners are
with separated filipinas, or filipinas with children, or midgets (less than 5 feet tall).
Yeah, my gf there in Dumaguete told me about this. 🤕
I have to agree with you on German beer. Eine jagerschnitzel mit pommes frits und salat, und zwei grosse bier bitte. lol As for drinking, I don't drink as much now in a year, as I use to in a weekend as a 20-some soldier in Germany.
Same here
Interesting story.... agree with all you said.
Exactly 💯
Hello Gio. What do 2 British guys, 1 Canadian guy, and 1 American guy have in common? They are all foreigners! Haha!
Some people never leave high school...this city sounds like high school.
Am new subscriber my fellow american thanks for your service brother.you sounded pretty nice guy .my wife a beautiful american girl with 2 handsome boys .
It's better then to go out in the morning just for coffee instead of in the evening for a drink.
Not a drinker so not a problem, other vlogers also mentioned the rain
Some people can't handle booze. There is many good Beers from small brewery's in my home state that can go up against any German beers
Please link the article Gio, I can't seem to find it in your description 😊

Totally agree.I live in a small seaside town in the South of Thailand. I avoid them like the plague.
Proud our marine
Don't mess with US citizen, especially retired military personal. The 3 attackers probably had an office job they never had a chance.
It's not even hanging out with other expats. It's avoiding bars and drinking.
What I'm saying is hanging out at the bar and heavy drinking was the cause of this altercation not just that there are lots of foreigners living here
I agree Sir . I am from Mindanao Iligan city. I think it is peaceful there so far.
Live in a Cebu province and moving in next 4 months. Love everything about Dumaguete but way too many expats. They screw up and it hurts all foreigners reputation.
Alcohol and bars equals trouble.
Semper Fi Marines
watching from San Diego, Ca. disturbing indeed!
Keep a low profile it's okay to have a few American friends but limit it because it adds into trouble get as many Filipino friends as possible because they will help you out in times of need
Alot has to do with drinking. Like you I live a private life and i like it that way....
What bar?
I'm bigger than most people, and a few foreigners have tried to start with me. I just got to walk away cuz I don't need trouble over there while I'm there.
