My grandparent's lived in Springfield from the late 1950s until 1986. In that time period they only lived in three places in Springfield. They lived in an apartment building downtown in the late '50s...not long after they moved to the apartment building he got a job at International over near Lagonda Park...they moved to the wooded area nearby on Belmont Avenue and then they moved to the heavily populated Cecil Street in the mid 1970s. I'd spend the weekends with them when they lived on Cecil Street in the early to mid 1980s. I didn't 'grow up' in Springfield but I definitely had a lot of weekends there with my grandparents. We'd go to the Upper Valley Mall, we'd drive to the various parks, we'd drive near the lake and take in all of the scenery. During the summer I'd spend a week or two with them...part of his job at International was delivering parts to various places in and around Springfield. Whenever he'd stop by the house for lunch in his delivery truck we'd go heading to one of the two Root Beer stands...usually the one out near Bird Road.

My best friends lived on Cecil St in the 60`s and 70`s, just a couple blocks from the Wittenberg Stadium. I lived on Garfield. Those were the days!

What a time capsule! The new library went up in the next 6 years. Clark Tech changed to Clark State. We got mugs in our gift bags. "First graduating class" is printed on the mugs.

Nowadays when you go to put gas in your car bums come up asking you for money or someone is saying are you good meaning do you need some crack or heroin. The mall is closed down and this lake they talked about looks like a septic tank has been pumped in it for years. Good old Springfield. How times change.

Now it's Haitians. Except they don't have to ask for money because Biden gives them our money for free. 🙃
