Hogue has kits that come with the grips, magwell, and mainspring housing included all in matching G10 material, price $110.oo. looks like magwell is pretty low profile, interesting to see all three in matching G10.
@@GatCat The style I had in my Colt Combat Commander, used the thin metal hooks that anchored on the lower bushing. I laid the grip where it would normally lay, then marked the location where the metal would go under the grip. Using a Dremel tool I ground away a thin layer of the grip panel thus allowing the grip to lay flat against the frame of the pistol. The removal of the thin layer of wood was shown in the video after the fact. You can also pick up a different set of grip panels so you have the original factory panels keeping them pristine, should you decide to sell the pistol one day. You could also use a good quality wood chisel to remove the wood.
The drop in element is dependent on what frame is being used. Typically, drop in requires some fitting to the part. However this is why I recommended a Wilson combat. Ed brown. Etc.

Thats a great question. I’m not too familiar with that area’s gun shops, but there’s a good way to find out. Try calguns.net. Its a free forum that helped me a lot when I was starting out. And still I go there a lot to learn a bunch of stuff. If you ask there, I’m sure you’ll get a lot of great answers. Also, you can learn a lot too. Another idea would be to just try out some different stores. Talk with the people working there. If you ever feel unwelcome or uncomfortable, thats not the store for you. I’m sure you’ll find some good places.

Drop in magwells are very cheap. I got mine off of ebay, I think the name was Klonomus. Or something like that. Wilson combat also makes one for less than $40. Also, thanks for subscribing! I really appreciate that.
..I've got the S&A on my first 'custom' 1911 I bought 30 years ago. Looking to up[grade my Series 70 Colt...was curious about the 'two-piece' magwell from Ed Brown vs the S&A one piece...kinda on a tight budget so the Ed Brown will be what I order from Brownells when the funds become available...thanx
If you’re on a real budget, you might consider the drop in magwell by wilson combat for $30. You’ll have to modify the grips but it will be the cheapest way to go.

Nice video. As I asked on a different video of yours, I own a double stack Para 16-40 limited and have not been able to find a suitable mag well other than those “el cheapo” you can find available on e-Bay. Don’t get me wrong, as I do not want to spend a fortune buying one but there has to be some better mag wells for double stack guns out there. Can you help?
@@calircpilot4261 I am very sorry for not responding to you in a timely manner. Off the top of my head, I don’t know of any magwells that will work. However, most magwells made for a niche market are going to cost $80+. As far as the cheap ebay models go, you might consider trying that. If it installs correctly, you can at least see if you like having it on there, then upgrade when the time comes. My cheap ebay magwell has ran very well. Its the black one in this video.

I have a Smith and Alexander magwell on my 'custom' 1911 I had built in 1991...almost 30.years ago!!!!

They do look cool, but I prefer the more standard metal MSH. But again, they do look really cool.
On one of my early Colts I used my Dremel to allow flush fit.

Do you mean the points at the front? No they don’t effect anything. To grind down metal, would require refinishing. Not easy.
The “pokeys” are covered by the magazine.
