    According to TV Tropes, this movie's production started in 1986 and stopped when Cannon went bankrupt. A few months later, the producers (without telling original director Enzo Castellari) hired Luigi Cozzi to finish and edit it. Cozzi inserted the framing device of the mother reading a bedtime story to her kid, in a desperate attempt to tie all the footage together as best he could. The narration itself was written by freelancer Brad Goldberg, whose initial draft was sent straight to recording. Castellari didn't even know the film had been finished in 1989 until he saw it in a video store.

    • @RWBprototype
      @RWBprototype หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      So someone thought it was decent enough to finish but in reality, it still turned into a pile of shit? Or did that person have a lot of respect for Cannon Films and wanted it to be finished?

    Jafar (there are many spellings) is a common name and it was also the name of the king's vizier in the 1001 Nights (aka Arabian Nights) where the story of Aladdin came from, though he was not the villain in the original Aladdin story, but was the father of Scheherazade, the woman who tells the 1001 stories, like Aladdin, to the mad King to keep him from killing her on their wedding night. The Disney film named the villain Jafar after the evil vizier "Jaffar" in the 1940 movie "The Thief of Bagdad." Aladdin borrowed other bits, like the carpet, from that movie and added it to the original story, though Thief of Bagdad also took from Aladdin and other 1001 Nights stories.
    Fun Fact: although it uses distinctly Arabian names and tropes, like Genies, the original Aladdin story was set in China.

      Yeah, there's a nice episode in season 4 of The Incredible Hulk where Lou gets to play a second character (in addition to the Hulk, obviously) and so actually gets to befriend Bill Bixy's David Banner rather than be his alter-ego (and they were close friends in real life too and it was Bill who vouched for Lou to get to do this role too). His character has the same deafness issue as Lou himself so gets to talk about it a bit through the dialogue. That was 1981. It's Lou's fave episode. :)

    From Wiki: "The 1989 Italian fantasy adventure film Sinbad of the Seven Seas, directed by Enzo G, Castellari and starring the American actor Lou Ferrigno as Sinbad, is credited as an adaptation of "The Thousand-and-Second Tale of Scheherazade". The movie's plot, however, in which Sinbad searches for five magical gems that are needed to save the world from an evil sorcerer, bears hardly any resemblance to Poe's story." Aladdin was ALSO a tale from "Arabian Nights" which is where the 7 voyages of Sinbad came from.
    The best part? The source material is about a woman telling her husband a story (like Arabian Nights). But the ending is 100% Poe:
    "The King soon begins to make it obvious that he is not enjoying Scheherazade's tale. He frequently interrupts the story with outbursts which clearly show that he thinks it is nonsense. Scheherazade, however, usually ignores the King's interruptions and continues with her story. When the King hears about women who think that adding things like camels' humps beneath their backs makes them look beautiful, he cannot stand to listen to the story any longer. The King orders that Scheherazade be put to death and complains that his marriage to her has lasted too long. At her execution, Scheherazade takes some comfort in the fact that she had not finished telling the story of Sinbad's fantastical adventures and the King will now never hear the end of the tale."
    Watching this movie also made me want to put my wife to death.

    This is what I could get from Wikipedia; It was a real mess.
    Sinbad of the Seven Seas claims to be based on Edgar Allan Poe's story "The Thousand-and-Second Tale of Scheherazade," though no similarity can be found between its plot and the story. It borrows some elements and characters from the 1940 version of The Thief of Bagdad. The film was made with a largely Italian cast and crew. Like most Italian movies, it was filmed on location without sound equipment and all dialogue and sound effects were dubbed later.
    Screenwriter Luigi Cozzi was originally going to direct the film back in 1986 but he was replaced at the last minute by the producers with Enzo G. Castellari. Castellari changed Cozzi's script drastically and several million dollars later, wound up submitting three hours of non-releasable footage to the producer, who shelved the whole project. In 1989, Cozzi was hired back to try to fix up the picture via re-editing and shooting additional scenes, the producer spending an additional half million dollars finishing it.

    Something about the movie's Jafar immediately got under my skin (other than the whole 'Rutger Hauer in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert' vibe), and then I realized he's played by italian schlock vet John Steiner, who's worked with Argento, Bava, and Fulci, and whom folks here might remember as the Overlord from Yor, Hunter of the Future. Also, nice nod to the Blind Dead series with the buried horsemen.

    Rope, made of living snakes, is Poe's trade mark. He just hides it very well and that is why we don't see it in his major works but if you read between lines then....

    This movie is a great example of why more movies should have two or more directors, each having little to no interaction with each other creatively. We would have such great cinema. Imagine if Neil Breen and Godfrey Ho co-directed a movie. Instant masterpiece!
