Very well played and indeed very reminiscent of the late great Dudley. He recorded this on the ABC Plymouth Compton, which sounded fabulous as the big reeds came into play towards the end. I am lucky enough to now own the ABC organ and am looking for a new home for it. All the best, Peter
What pure delight, Peter! You play beautifully and have worked magic with this organ. Sounds fantastic in both versions. Pressing the replay button. Thanks for posting this.
This is awesome Peter!! Such a fun piece. Beloved over here stateside. My content installer was a friend of Mr. Young and shared with me thoughts on tempo - knowing that conversation I would say you nailed it!! It’s tempting to take this way too fast. I love this and love your articulation too!! Hope you can make some new recordings soon 😊
Thanks so much Jerry. I can't believe it is over 10 years since I uploaded this and although I know I am a bit rusty, I'm sure I'd play it better now and the organ would definitely sound better. Once I get enough time! I WILL revisit it and upload.
I like this piece. You play this really well with nice phrasing and shape. I still can't believe that this is the Hauptwerk default organ. You make it sound like a real pipe organ.
I am currently practising this song! i see a lot of video's where the organist just plays so fast. maybe that is mechannically correct, but they are not making the song into music....like they just want to get over it but you make every note sound like music with stress on certain notes, sometimes a little pause etc...so amazing
Thank you for your comments. I know what you mean about people playing this in a hurry. I believe it should be played at a steady pace with occasional pauses to breath. I know I could play this a lot better now, hopefully without mistakes :-)
I agree with you totally- and am also beginning to practice it! The original and 'added reverb' recording demonstrate the dictum that 'the most important stop on the organ is the building'. Fascinating comparison.
Wow. I've heard quite a number of renditions of this piece. Many are perhaps technically flawless in some respects but thrashed out at a rate of knots in an entirely mechanistic way. I love the heart achingly bitter-sweet harmony and I find your rendition extremely moving. I am very thankful indeed for your post as I might never had imagined the piece could express so much.
@goodchappy Hi Peter, Thanks for Your kind words too. I'm not just being kind, I'm just being honest to You. Yeah I wish I could play this on harmonica but compared to Your Organ, a little harmonica would leave next to nothing of this piece, and where do I find the sheet music... I write music for my harmonica club from scratch, so I need a few more long winter nights to get my head around this by watching this video another 120 times before I "get it". Thanks for the encouragement!!
I get to hear many organists and pianists, being a pianist and organist myself. It really is not as bad sounding as you make it out to be. It is really quite good. Keep up the good work. Ron
WOW BRAVO YOUR THE FIRST OUT OF I WOULD SAY 15 CLIPS I WOULD SAY WHO HAS A NATURAL FEEL FOR THE PIECE. THE OTHERS HAVE RUINED IT OR BOTCHED THE WHOLE PIECE UP> SO I AM GOING TO SAY YES! Great Tempo.
There's no need to be so modest here about yourself Peter. I know the feeling of being nervous when You know it's being recorded, but I'd say this is not just quite "acceptable" but actually Very Good, and a Beautiful piece, and Very Well played. I admire You, well done!!
A marvelous virtuoso organist (now deceased) once said, "..., you show me an organist who makes it all the way through a concert without any errors and I will run like hell ..." Virgil Fox towards the end of his days ... You sounded fine ... I loved it ... p-double u b
This was the first piece I played for an organ recital on a 3 manual pipe organ. At the time I was the organ student my teacher had. I went on to play many other pipe organs.
I have it DL on my PC from Hauptwerk ....so I also enjoy "playing" the St Annes using my Technics FA-1 as a surrogate console !!! How's that?....No doubt a great sounding Organ which I love.....unfortunately, I don't play nearly as well as you....You make that organ come alive...cheers!......
BEAUTIFUL rendition (both versions)!!! By the way, does anyone know if this piece has been used in movies or television? The melody sounds very familiar to me but i can't seem to place it.
I do think you had a very good 'feel' for this piece, and listening to the original recording to make a comparison; well, I have to say they both express a fine rendition. It would be interesting to see the score, and the editor's notes. If you were totally reliant on the original recording for your performance, I congratulate you for your efforts here. Thanks.
@kazhilly Thank you very much for your kind words :-) I see you play the harmonica, how about having a go at this piece? I am always in aw of people who play the harmonica well.
Prelude In Classic Style. Gordon Young. There are different versions, I bought the original version from Sheetmusicplus in the USA. You may find free downloadable simplified versions on the internet.
@PipeOrganHymnsG0OJF Hello Richard, I got this piece a few years ago online from sheet music plus dot com and I think I paid less than £3 for it, well worth it. I came across another free download of it though it was simplified and because I have known the full version for so long, the free version sounded odd.
Hi, thank you. It is relatively easy, the pedal part is not very complicated. The main thing with this piece is to get the expression correct, many performances I have heard on TH-cam don't seem to have the same effect. I could however do better now I think.
Do you think you can let me know the publication details of the music. The only version I could spot was 'no longer available' , and I fancy doing this one myself. Thanks, Richard
@HappyHauptwerk Thank you very much Greg. I am pleased with the organ. I intend to record this again as I made a few bloopers, even though unless you know the piece exactly, you probably wont notice. One thing I have done is increase the organ pipe sensitivity to wind pressure and tuning and turned the wind model almost up to its maximum setting, nearly 500.
@pipeorganfan26 Hello and thank you VERY much for your comment. I believe this piece should be played with a crisp feel and should tell a story, some people play it rather legato and it seems to plod. You may also like the other recording of this on my channel, played on a Compton Cinema organ.
@jazzboyfin Thank you very much for your comments. You are lucky to have the old ABC organ, I hate it when I hear an organ has no home to go to, it is such a waste!
@francisville1 Thank you. I hope you realise this is my Hauptwerk computer organ. I based this performance on the version I uploaded of the Compton Cinema organ in Essex.
@mikedc2020 Yes, it is like a form of paralysis I think. I can practice things over and over more or less note perfect, press record and it all goes bad.
No, I set the random de-tuning quite high recently as an experiment, most pipe organs I hear have some notes that are not quite in tune. On this recording it was not de-tuned but I had re-voiced it considerably, the pipes were all re-arranged in the stereo field to give a more spread out sound, the sensitivity to wind pressure, wind turbulence, pitch and wind model were all changed so it sounds a lot better than the default organ. Now when I play a loud chord, the organ almost runs out of wind!
@jmcgatkinson Hi, thanks for your comments. The first time I heard this peice was on the Compton organ as on my other upload. I guess the first performance you hear of a piece is the one you prefer over all others. I have heard many people play this piece and I still think the version that Dudley Savage did is the best, which is why I tried to compy it.
Hey Bud Do you Take Requests? I Would Love For You to Play One Of My Favorite Organ Pieces I Fell In Love With Called: Trumpet Processional For Organ. By Richard Frye. Very Similar To The Prelude In Classic Style. Let Me Know If You Need Me To Mail You The Score Let Me Know. Thanks One Of Your Organ Fans.
Goodchappy, I would like to you to know that your interpretation of the prelude is quite simply the best I have heard. So many organists play it as though they can't wait to get through it. Thank you.
I love this piece . Very well played with perfection and skill.
Felicitaciones ,está muy bellamente ejecutada y con un sonido hermoso, gracias.
Very well played and indeed very reminiscent of the late great Dudley. He recorded this on the ABC Plymouth Compton, which sounded fabulous as the big reeds came into play towards the end. I am lucky enough to now own the ABC organ and am looking for a new home for it. All the best, Peter
That was great Peter I've done this on youtube in the past which makes me want to get it out again to have another go at this! :-)
Superb. Also wonderful acoustics
Thank you.
Very well played Peter, I enjoyed it very much! Thank you :-)

simply superb! thank you for a terrific upload! loved every second! each second, as delightful as the last one.
Very well played, Peter; great performance! :-)
I like this piece. You play this really well with nice phrasing and shape. I still can't believe that this is the Hauptwerk default organ. You make it sound like a real pipe organ.
Good job! The Moseley organ sounds great in this one!
I am currently practising this song!

Wow. I wish I had your talent. One of the best versions I have heard.

Thank you James :-) These comments are encouraging.
Great job. The same exact thing happens to me. The minute the "record button" gets pressed I get flustered.

Bravo! Happines......!!
Great! FInally not being played like a marathon run like in many other cases. I really enjoyed it, thank you :)
+eduscho84 Thank you :-) I can play this better now and I am hoping to upload another recording soon.
WOW BRAVO YOUR THE FIRST OUT OF I WOULD SAY 15 CLIPS I WOULD SAY WHO HAS A NATURAL FEEL FOR THE PIECE. THE OTHERS HAVE RUINED IT OR BOTCHED THE WHOLE PIECE UP> SO I AM GOING TO SAY YES! Great Tempo.

Brilliant
Well played there ! i dont think u have got anything to worry about there.
This was the first piece I played for an organ recital on a 3 manual pipe organ. At the time I was the organ student my teacher had. I went on to play many other pipe organs.
I liked the 2nd "dry" recording without reverb. Much more clear and pleasing to listen to.
@silverstartrucker Thanks Arth, yes the bass is quite deep and subtle throughout till right at the end!
BEAUTIFUL rendition (both versions)!!!
By the way, does anyone know if this piece has been used in movies or television?

Hi...is the prelude (in this video clip) played on the famous St AnneMosely organ??
@francisville1 Thank you. I hope you realise this is my Hauptwerk computer organ.

Cool Thanks. I Need Your Mailing Address To Send You The Score. I Appreciate This.
@mrSymphonic Wow thank you :-)
@oldbear52 Thank you :-)
Yes. How did you probably guess?
Hi....by tweaking to de-tune the Moseley, was it by choosing a particular temperment offered in the Pitch tool box? If so, which one?
@silverstartrucker Thanks for advising me about the silly typo, it is ok now. How embarrassing!
The first time I heard this was in a demo video for a used Allen organ
Thanks. I have re-voiced the organ to make it more lively. I keep tweaking it, at the moment I have made it sound like it is rather out of tune!
@pipeorganfan26 I will have a go. Taken a rest from the organ for a while. If you can provide me with the score, I will see what happens.
Thanks Ron ;-)
@Organexaminer Thanks very much, perhaps it wasn't that bad after all :-)
Goodchappy, I would like to you to know that your interpretation of the prelude is quite simply the best I have heard. So many organists play it as though they can't wait to get through it. Thank you.
Thank you. :-) Gosh I recorded this nearly 8 years ago, I have played it a few times since, I am much better now.
Brilliant
