This takes me back to happy carefree days of being 9 years old in Primary school, a lifetime ago. How the world has changed.

      The hymn or Ruth's Jig?

This is the first time I have heard it since my Sunday School days. I am now 78. Thank you, Thank you.

As instructed I clicked like, then braced myself, then really enjoyed Ruth's Jig!!!! :) Awesome :D

Thank you Goodchappy, that was all very enjoyable indeed. When I last heard it, at school 62 years ago, would I have resisted dancing as I listened to the jig version? Probably not!

I used to sing this beautiful hymn as a child in primary school. It was played during our school
assembly and has stuck in my mind ever since.

Really enjoyed that. Twas one of our grandmother's favourite hymns. Loved Ruth's jig too. Children have been skipping and clapping to it. Thanks for that.

I am sure they weren't playing it in Dec. Fortunately it is in the Salvation Army Tunebook #208.

I like the reference to 'Morningtown Ride'. I remember 'The Seekers' performing this song in the 1960's, and there is a film clip of this song featuring the 'Pichi Richi Railway', near Quorn, South Australia, my home state, though 'The Seekers' originated from Melbourne.. Produced by Tom Springfield (Dusty Springfield's brother) to bring it to UK #2 in the 1966 charts.. a nice passage in this piece; thanks for the post..

Brilliant! I heard this sung at West Park URC Harrogate recently - the first time since my school days. Nice to find this so I can hear it again. Played with such feeling - so many organists read the music but not the words I think.

Mmmmm, pure auditory pleasure! Your versatility is amazing, Peter. Great job in revoicing the St Annes. I don't know how the real organ sounds, but you've done wonders with this virtual representation. The sound of air in the pipes is a big enhancement. Thanks!

What a wonderful rendition of Ruth, ESPECIALLY the jig.Someone needs to cut a template of it for a fairground organ because it is simply wonderful. Many thanks.

Brilliant! I think you were born a century too late, though, as you are demonstrating the skills of the old silent movie cinema organ/piano players - and doing a very good job of it IMHO.

    • @Goodchappy

Yes! I think you maybe correct that I was born a century too late. In certain respects, I wish I was. :-)

Great playing. I appreciate that you play pedal note instead of individual - you can get away with that because of your good articulation and organ having quick action :-)

@silverstartrucker My music is actually written in 5 flats which is 2 semitones lower than I played it here, I transposed it because Mr Charles played it in Eb.
If you could do a video singing the lowest note and the highest note you can comfortably sing, I shall try to work out what key is best for you....I am guessing you are a baritone or bass.

The reason it reminds you of Morningtown Ride is that Malvina Reynolds ripped off (sorry, "was inspired by") this tune for her song, as she was rather wont to do -- for instance, look at "What have they done to the rain" which is a complete medley of bits of other tunes. Maybe being left wing she felt that property -- including intellectual property -- is theft, so it's OK to appropriate it.
