Kat, you have a tremendous knowledge base. I've been around diesels since I was "knee high to a grasshopper" in the 70s and 80s. Driven them since a teen; as a firefighter as well as a wrecker driver, plus in the military as well as commercially today. Even when I was a deputy sheriff here in Florida, we had a 6.4 that I drove while pulling the disaster response trailer.
You're brutally honest, which is what we need in the diesel community. I definitely learned a ton from this episode. Thanks for your time.

I was really impressed with your knowledge and approach. Living in Oregon I know where my new diesel shop is the next time I need something. I do have a question though about your FASS experience. I picked up a 24 HO 6.7 F350 in Iowa and drove it straight to Arod to have a DCR conversion completed. 700 miles on a brand new truck and I replaced the CP4. I'm serious about preventative maintenance...lol My quesion about FASS: S&S Diesel did a teardown of one of their test trucks and found that the FASS system actually generated rust into the system due to the metal cans. Apparently he got some bad fuel and and the water in the fuel caused the filter to rust and sent rust all through the system. It made it way into the DCR pump they were testing but they made the point that the stock fuel system on the Fords being plastic and the fact they already havea lift pump we should not be using after market. Your thoughts? starting at 16:37 th-cam.com/video/HHC4hM-w-Hk/w-d-xo.html

@@pat9125 so we do not do much FASS on 6.7L ford there lift pump is pretty good and doesnt have alot of issues. if you want better filtration FLEECE PERFORMANCE has new oem replacement fuel filter kits that have been awesome! www.fleeceperformance.com/ford/2017-2018-6-7l-powerstroke/fuel-system/6-7l-ford-powerstroke-engine-mounted-filter-assembly.html

@@pat9125 but in all honesty I have not seen filters rust out like that unless someone got bad diesel that had a high-water content, or they did not change there filters when they were supposed to. we use to see this alot when fass had the water Seperator that had a petcock, people would just drain it and keep on running the same filter and they would eventually rust out.

I like her no bs attitude. She has extensive knowledge and I agree with almost all she has stated on here. And the things I don’t completely agree with are just personal preference. I was laughing hard when she stated that people don’t want to hear when you tell them they don’t know how to drive modern trucks. I personally think that most people are actually too stupid to own a current diesel and keep it alive.

Very good episode. Kat is brutally honest, and unfortunately that's the discipline of owning a diesel pickup. If you take the Podcasts with Vinny and some of the others, along with Kat, you can definitely paint a big picture of the things that help current and future diesel owners. I can relate to the older engines, IDIs, Powerstrokes, 1st Gen; Detroits (Military); but drive newer commercial vehicles.
I hope you have her back on at some point. She's definitely a female counterpart to Vinny.

She's who I go to and one of her techs is a buddy of mine. I'll probably get a fass installed and maybe some 625 studs. Oh and the dealership in town is awful too so she's got her hands full with folks not being told how to run these trucks.

Used to manual shift my 2019 HO Ram 3500 to influence the emissions system. Otherwise it would not regen to clean the particulate filter.

I harp on people about how to drive them too if you don't actually NEED a diesel truck don't buy one if you only drive short distances and not towing stop sell it go back to gas Ive been in the industry for over 15 years and I have taken a lot of classes in emissions after treatment systems and you absolutely cannot just drive it short distances everyday the DPF will only collect soot and never get hot enough to operate in passive Regen and you'll end up with a clogged DPF that's the number one thing I tow HEAVY alot and I don't see problems like the customers who diesel trucks just to have them and they pull their boat a handful of times a year

Patrick you touched on something regarding the high operation costs and of general repairs for diesel pickups. I was going to suggest having a guest, a subject matter expert to discuss the costs of owning a diesel, Powerstroke. Cummins and Duramax; and the costs of major repairs, and how much money a diesel owner should have tucked away. For my SUV I have monies set aside and the ability to affect repairs, maintenance etc. I can cover "x" amount of dollars. But lets say I owned an LML, a 3rd Gen or 11-14 Cummins (just examples). Thanks in advance.

Hmmm - I am NOT running my truck hard enough I think.
    21 L5P - I tow a large RV trailer about 100 hours a year but mostly spring-fall.
Rest of the time and entire michigan cold season I am driving 20ish minutes max 2 times a week… and have not been warming it up long before driving… I need to change my driving habits.
