6:43 The headphones with ANC and no music do have a hiss, however, it's quite a low frequency one like distant sea shores which is actually quite pleasant. They're certainly less annoying than the XM4s, which had a higher pitched hiss.

Great review. Can someone please talk about how amazing the phone call quality is!!! I have used these in the most noise filled places. Buses, busy cities. Main peak hour traffic roads and no one hears a thing around me! Just my voice. Unbelievable!

I'm a bit late to the party, I upgraded to the XM5s last month and I have to say everything about the headset is great! The only complaint I have is how the headset slips off my ears every time I lean back or forward
The black version is a smudge magnet. The cream version shows dirt and grime very easily.
Hi nice video! Are you able to check if the XM5's headband size (or rather distance from the top to the earcups) is any smaller than the XM4's when not extended? Only asking as I once bought a pair of XM4's, but found they were too big for me even when not extended and they'd just slide off the top of my head 😕
7:02 You can adjust the audio volume by long holding the swipe the same with the XM4 I just realized haha.
I prefer the XM4 just for the compact case alone. :)

@@Metonyacakali Barely noticeable. Compared to some other headphones I had, this is nothing. No hiss, minimum / no pressure. Quite comfortable to wear. My head is a bit small, so for me they are even a bit big, but it's still fine.

From an owner of the xm4 and xm5: go for the xm5! The xm4 is great but the noise canceling and especially the ambient mode is way better. The natural xm4 noice canceling is better (without anc on). Big eared ppl beware of xm5: ears hit the back of the shell but i got some new pads and no issue. Don’t worry about bass on either and the customization is so good! The clamp force felt harder in xm4 but the ear pads were better so a tie. Also the angle outwards on the xm4 goes further but this won’t matter for you big headed folks (no disrespect). Pressure on the xm4 is pretty ok and i get a bit of pressure on the xm5 but don’t worry. The automatic anc on the xm5 is pretty good but it switches sometimes and your like “mannn” but just hit the button :)) not a dealbreaker. The mic on the xm5 is 10x better and big pro is that wind sound on the xm5 is also better. The touch features also are smoother on the xm5. No white noise on either IMO that was my biggest fear. The non folding problem really isn’t a problem for me but that’s all up the the user. Hope i helped someone out! Go for the xm5 and tweak the ear pads if you have issues!
Are you sure it's not white noise? This is my biggest fear too. I will take it accordingly.
@@Metonyacakali absolutely no white noise on the xm5. On ambient mode expect some slight funny sound ofc but on any lvl noise canceling it’s perfect trust me.

I have the xm4’s and my folks are both getting them for Christmas. My aunt and uncle gifted them to me. I have them in the silver color. My mom is also getting silver and my dad is getting blue.

I hate sony's sound signature, it's always darker than i like but what I love about xms and especially with xm5s and new 30mm drive is that it's very precise and responsive to EQ. after adjustment it's sounds near perfect for me

Which color would be better, black or white?
Currently the xm5 is the same price as the xm4. Therefore I’m buying the xm5 because it’s technically slightly better. The original msrp price doesn’t justify getting an xm5 over an xm4 but this holiday discount does because the xm5 is on sale but for some reason the xm4 is not
I'm gonna be brutally honest here, I'm gonna give you massive props for using them for a month straight, to me they sounded so bad even with a tuned equaliser and ldac turned on that I returned them the next day and got the sennheiser momentum 4

@@tytownsend8219all of that can be easily solved by turning off the case detect function, so you returned them over a setting you could've turned off within 5 seconds
Just bought these. I bought the XM3 in 2019 so it was time for an upgrade. So far so good, but obviously way too early to judge. Initial reaction is they're definitely very light and are more comfortable than the XM3s.
How are the headphones rn?
Here in Canada the MX4 are only going for $20 less than the MX5. Dealers know that people will prefer the MX4 because of its hinges. Maybe Sony should have just spent some time improving the durability of the hinges.
Xm5 is just fine as there are people posting pics of their xm5 hinges in a broken state as they had been wearing the headphone and falling asleep and as a result putting excess pressure due to the weight and stress on the headphone. Sony or anyone out their cannot design headphones that can last as a result of user abuse and misuse 🎉
i bought it basically because my neighbors are very noisy, with the sony wh-1000xm4 model i was fine but this sony wh-1000xm5 is worrying, it cancels the noise too strongly to the point that i don't hear anything that happens around me. it is so strange that even if you put the headphones without turning them on the noise is reduced considerably. if you live in a noisy environment or unfortunately you have noisy neighbors these sony wh-1000xm5 are the best option.
does it get rid, dog barks, motor vehicle engine revving noises, loud talkative neighbors, and kids shouting?

I'm seeing a lot of comments online saying this product has a build problem which involves the hinge rotator cuff part breaking very easily (like a month of use), is this true? I'm thinking of returning this product or exchange them for Bose Quiet Comfort since it doesnt seems too durable can anybody help me 😥😥

I've had mine for about two weeks and I actually really like them. They feel comfortable on my head and the noise cancellation is really good too. The sound could be better but still not bad. Other than that for me, I love them but maybe the price was the hardest thing for me.

Ok I just need to share my thoughts.
My situation, I’m still rocking my teufel mute bt headphones but after 3 year of daily use they started to degrade und Fall about without electrical tape. I got my siblings to get me the Sony xm5s for Christmas with me obviously taking a share of the financial burden because they are not cheap. The reason why I wanted the XM5 where as followed:
I wanted durability, for durability I would have taken the Bose 700 over the Sony xm4 because of that hinge breaking issue you mentioned. But I also want good sound and a lot of reviews said the Bose sound fine but not as good as the Sony xm4. Also also the Bose only have 20hr of battery life.
My thoughts where that the Sony xm5 had all advantages of the Bose, no hinge, no folding (didn’t care about folding), better band design, but also had all the advantages of the Sony xm4, longer battery life, better overall sound. But still I was unsure after the Sony got ordered. So I checked out more reviews. I found yours

Great fucking job! The one thing that I was looking for I found here. You are the only person i found that talked about the hissing/monoton beep sound of active headphones without music playing. I hate that shit so much and my teufel mute bt are very bad with that. Now I can chill and relax knowing that the Sony xm5 will be exactly what I was looking. Thank you so much!

@@Metonyacakali Hi im currently wearing the XM5s daily and no hissing at all only in transperance mode just because the mics are passing everything though but as soon as you have the ANC on there is nothing just the music.

Must have gotten an lemon or this review is crap concerning the ANC. My real life test between the XM5, XM4 and Bose's QC45, QC35 and QC Earbuds show that the humming and rumbling of machines that have compressors like an airconditioner, fridge or dehumidifier were still very noticeable while they were cancelled out by the XM4 and QC45. Even the QC Earbuds seemed to do better job or the same as the XM5 by still letting some of that noise in.
I have the XM5s, the Technics EAH-A800E-K (one ear popped within a year sadly), Jabra 2 85, and QC35.
The xm5 is distincly the least comfortable of any of them. Clamping force is higher. I had to change the ear pads to prevent my ears touching (I have good ears) hard points inside the cup (you may only become aware when the ear ache arrives after 4hr or so, and I had to buy a sleeve for the head band, which is too thin.
This is only relevant if you wear headphones for 8hr+ a day.
Bruh this is exactly why I sold the air pods max. Going with xm 4
I like a higher clamp force, don't want it falling off my head, been wearing them for a while since i got them on Wednesday and haven't had any earache problems. It only gets hot which is my complaint.
I tried a set of the xm4 headphones, and I quickly returned them. It was because of the hinges and the folding. I was afraid they would break to easily. I was not going to spend almost $300 for a set of headphones that could so easily break. If I had kept the xm4 headphones and they had broken, then I would have been out of luck and would have been paying off a set of broken headphones. When I pay off my sense player that I just preordered, I'll be grabbing a set of these. I did really like the sound of the xm4s. If they hadn't had such bad hinges, I would have kept them. I'm looking forward to getting the xm5 headphones.

Didn't take me 5 months. Bought both this and the Bose45s and the sound quality on the Bose absolutely blows away the muffled XM5s. Just returned the latter with the quickness.
All of these people talking these headphones up must be getting paid. (Only half joking, but honestly so many saying the same thing I almost bought the hype)
You are dreaming, bigtime. Bose Q45s are only slightly better comfort, but for SOUND Reduction/Output etc.....NOTHING BEATS SONYXM5 out there at this time. They are Game changers. Theyve caught up & exceeded Bose with this headset.....hence the NO1 Headphones status. XM4 yes you are correct, XM5 You def arent.

The skinny headband on these makes them seriously uncomfortable after wearing for about 30 mins.
Mine can’t figure out at 70 mph that I’m not walking. Frustrating for sure.
The Bass isn't as thumping to my liking, I'm not sure if it's just my unit or I maybe had unrealistic expectations coming from always using earphones.

6:19 can someone explain ldac and AAC for me please. I'm using my xm5s with an android but I'm planning to get the iPhone 14 next month. If the iPhone doesn't have ldac would that mean the audio quality would deteriorate?
LDAC is Android based. Apple have Lossless, but via Apple Music.
LDAC objectively transfers more data than AAC. At it's highest LDAC transfers 990kbps while AAC is capped at 256Kbps.
This means it is possible to receive and hear more detail if you are streaming from a high quality audio source.
So, yes, if you are using LDAC on your android and switch to AAC you will hear a difference.
I learned this the hard way. I had senheiser momentum tw 3 (which do not have LDAC support, but do have APTX Adaptive) my S21 ultra do not have ApTX adaptive. I had to use AAC. The sound quality was noticeably worse than running ApTX adaptive on my ROG phone 3.
My S21 ultra does have LDAC. I bought the XM4 earphones and with LDAC there is way more detail.

I have both and the Xm5 are better in every way.
Anc is not that great. It cannot remove human voices. I have the xm5 and I can hear human voices clearly. Only the passive noise cancellation seems to reduce noises a bit. I suspect its a issue with the AI. But for now skip the xm5s. Anc is trash.

No mention of the disastrous “auto NC” means a thumbs down. But don’t feel bad, hardly any reviewer mentions it. I guess everyone is deaf.
Try these before you buy, I hated the band and cups. I found them really uncomfortable and they went back. They also don't feel premium in my view. If you can live without ANC and don't mind wired, you'll find better cans for half the price.
I ordered them blind and love em to bits. They were £275 - incredible deal for the price.

The XM5 just look so cheap and are upon examination very cheaply built . Sony abandoned the unrivaled fit of the XM3 XM4 Which is better than any headphones in my collection . I feel like a peasant wearing the XM5s And Sony Felt It A Good Thing To Up The Price By $50.00 . I Returned 2 Pairs Of XM5s Months Apart Trying To See The Value In Them And Other Than The ANC Their Is No Value I Could Find In The XM5s .
My SoundCore Q35 & Q45 Have Better Sound Quality And Look Much Nicer Especially The Q45 .
