- Feel free to check out my Facebook page here :)
I am posting a video soon on the makeup, and thought it would do a video at the same time on how I did the hair. I pulled insperation for this from a few places, There is a book called "Period Hairstyles, for studio, stage and screen" by Kit Spencer which is a brilliant book. There is also a Video by Amy B from Ask Me makeup, that has a Marie Antoinette hair style. Mine is a bit of a blend of the two, but slightly different from both.
Anyway hope you found it helpful or it gave you some ideas on how to create your own looks!
If you had more skill than I you could also leave a little hair at the side to roll up into long pincurls just above your ears. Have fun!
Pursebuzz has a great video on how to make a sock bun, check it out here

Take care everyone!
Music: Danse Macabre - No Violin, Violin Hook and Isolated harp, by Kevin Macleod
This was amazing. It blew my mind (and my mum's) to see how you could achieve such a perfect-looking hairstyle all by yourself! I'm going to try it next costume party I have. I hope someone will do one soon!
@TianaDMS A sock bun, is basily a sock rolled up into a ball, with a teeny tiny hole cut at the top, that you can stick over a pony tail.
At hair dressers you can find "hair rats" which alot of people use as a base for buns or to give hight to hair and other things (they are made of a kind of mesh, and you can stick pins into em)
a sock bun is just a DIY job of the same type of thing :) - you can't stick the pins in it though.
I did this last year for my marie anntoinette costume I got TONS of compliments. A little trick ... if you don't want too use the donut buns or tease your hair ...section your hair at the crown just like she did and instead of putting the little buns on the pony tail.. wrap a large amount of the cheap fake hair from sallys beauty supply( in your hair color) around the pony tail and pin it. Then just use the hair sectioned at the crown and pin it over the bun of fake hair for that upswept look
we have retro day in school and everyone's going as the 1980s and i mean EVERYONE. I have a corset dress and will be rocking this kind of style, wish me luck!!
My favorite Victorian look!!!!!how nice and simple you make it look!!!!!
A gorgeous look. well done !
In fact many we'll to-do ladies went bald in places thanks to all the strain, plucking and pinning of their hair. Add loads of powders, perfumes and oils the hair would fall out it was so badly taken care of! Wealthy ladies would but the hair of other women for their wigs, it was quite a business!
Lovely tutorial!
ugh i love you for this! i LOVE hairstyles like this, great job love
God yehaw im so happy right now, thank you sooooo much! I was looking after a tutorial like this for ages and couldnt find anything till now... and its not as hard as I thought. Thank you! Looked wonderful!
@queenb891 I have a book (I named it in the discription box) which is really great for pierod hair styles. It's a combination of that + a bit of ask me how makeup by Amy B and what I just played around with myself. Glad you like it :)
This couldn't be more gorgeous! The hair is spot on! Love your vids, keep up the good work!!
Best ever I never stop watching it and its really handy for I have a school play coming up and I'm this posh snoby character so dis hair duo is perfect
finally something to work with... all the others use massive hair pieces, but this is actually something you can easily get in the drugstore...thanks so much, this is going to be part of a rad vampire costume.
@LondondeC1 have a look in the description box for a link to a video on how to make them :)
Incredible, you´re the first one that does it like I wanted it ...
LOVED it. I was worried about trying to attempt the hair for my marie antoinette costume because my hair isn't long, but you've inspired me! Thanks!
this is so pretty!! i'm like obsessed with this look, you did an amazing job! plus 18th century hair really suits you :)
when this first started i yelled jonathon creek really loudly >< love the style :D
Wow, can't believe you did that with such short hair! Amazing, it turned out really pretty.
We sure can't get that oomph without backcombing :D I think I leave it to others and just have flat hair myself, ouch!
This is beautiful! One of my alltime favorite looks!
Well done! Easy to follow video, and just enough detail without being too lenghty. Can't wait to try it out! I've never heard of hot sticks before. Are they better than a curling iron and hot curler rolls?
WOW! Great makeup look and hair...Can't wait for the makeup how to!
I love this era and the fashion/style then
@24ntk you can make them or buy them. If you are going to buy them look in a hair supply store for "hair Rats" Or ballet buns. They are little donut looking things that are made of a kind of mesh so that you can stick pins in them if you need too.
to make them you can just use a fluffy sock, snip a small whole in the end and roll it up. there is a video in the box :)
This is perfect! I got a 'French Revolution' dress for Hallowe'en, and I have some funky colors in my blonde hair as well so I thought it'd look silly but the red in your hair (very similar to the red/pink in my hair) looks awesome! I have long extensions so I really didn't want to have to buy a wig as well, I'll follow this and curl my extensions as well :) Stoked! Haha. You really got me excited for my costume! I'll be watching the makeup video next.
lovely, I'm gonna have to try this sometime
Nice! I love the look of the 1700s. :)
@loopycow7890 you can do it with any colour hair you want! If you want it to have that Powdered Wig effect, you could put in a little powder, but with black hair, it might make it look gray.
This is absolutely gorgeous! Great instructional video.
this is a work of art!!! you are amazingly talented!
Fantastic. I hate teasing but I guess its necessary. I have to do this on two models for competition.
I made, but you can buy them as well. The brought ones are great because they are light and spongy and made of a kind of mesh so you can pin right into them. You should be able to find one on ebay for a dollar or two.
This looks so lovely!
@loopycow7890 They are called Hot Sticks. Really good for hard to curl hair, and pretty quick to use as well.
danse macabre... good choice in song- its suites this look well :)
and i LOVE this hairstyle!!
@JoyBunny24 lol it took a while. I sat down and watched a movie, and by the time the movie finished I had it out. lol
Thanks, I am glad you like it! I think I proly suit it because I am so damn pale anyway. I think I am slowly starting to turn translusant :P
Doing this for a school project on Brecht where I have to do a Brecht poem in Brechtian style. Chose to set mine in the 1700s and this feels right for the dress I'm wearing hehe. Thanks!
@GhostisBoo mmm I I'm not sure how to do that as she had a very high (reciding) hair line, and always wore wigs! I won't be able to do it anytime soon, but please remind me and I will try to do something at some stage :) -also if you could send me a pic of what you had in mind would be helpful because she had so many "iconic" hair styles. Alot of them envolved very elaborate hair pieces and dresses...
@ilovesteve7 I made them, just using some fluffy socks. They are nice and light, while still giveing volume.
Pursebuzz has a good videon on it how to make them, I'll find it and put it in the discription box for you :)
You can also buy Hair Rat's from a drug store or somewhere that sells hair supplys. These are made out of a kind of mesh which is really good because its light, and you can pin right into them, which you can't do with a sock bun.
@goldiestarling Thanks babes! I had fun combing that one out lol I think if I do it again, I will try and get the curls above the ears.
xx
i LOVE the accessories in ur hair :D
and the orange in ur hair looks really cool too (:
soo cute;
This looks amazing! Thank you so much for posting :)
I saw the finished pictures at the begining and got a little upset that I had medium hair length, since most of the time you'd need long hair, but YEAUH! You've got my hair length!
Absolutely Stunning!!!!! LOVE YOU!
@TammyE21 Thank hun! Hopefully it will be up by the end of the day :) I'm so glad you like it! I'd love to see pic of your costume for halloween :)
x
@TheClover1012 yeah, you could just use a curling iron, just when you release the curl, roll is back up and put a bobby pin in it and leave it there to cool while you curl the rest and work on the front :)
@LondondeC1 I made them :) Easy peasy and cheep too. Just get a long fluffy sock, nip a tiny hole in the toe and roll it down. You can also buy "hair rats" from a hair supply store. They are good because you can pin things into them. x
Will try doing this tomorrow when my victorian new years gown has arrived! :D
you did a fabulos job! and i love the music too!
@geishastace It'll be up soon! Thanks so much hun, glad you like it :) x
@LisaFreemontStreet Aw thanks babes! I was going to powder it so that it looked more like a wig from that area, but I forgot to buy the powder. I wish I could have got more hight out of it, but my hair is a bit short.
xx
Awesome video! Might try this for an evening at the opera( or Halloween!!)
@TianaDMS I went as Queen of Hearts last year! Great minds think alight eh? ;) I found this cute costume, and used a xmas decoration which i glued some allagator clips to make the crow! - I didn't want to do the Tim Burton queen of hearts. As much as I love him, thats not the sort of queen I wanted. Check out my blog and you can see pics :) x
WOW! Great makeup look:)
Brilliant!! And you practice tribal too!! You like everything I do too!!
That is AMAZING
@theLadySpies Aw thanks! I'm glad you think so!
looks quite sweet!
omg that is just beautiful!
@zsakleene I'm sure you could! It's actually not as hard as it looks, just lots of back combing :)
Thank you for the Hair tutorial, I do believe it was called a High Roll back then. :) Subscribed!
I loove thiis! I have this beautifull rococo dress I just bought (for only 2000!! o:) and I think I'm going to try this out! But I do have very long hair etc. but I may try it anyway ;) Great job!
@JoyBunny24 I don't know! I am a freak of nature. haha -proly because I work inside all the time, and when I am out in the sun I am really carefull about sunscreen because I burn so damn easy.
@RosalindBlack Yay i'm glad! would love to see photos if you want to share em :)
actually going to do this for Halloween...thanks so much, was worried I would have to buy a wig!
@heysally13 No worries, glad you enjoy it :)
Lol I love the pic of you with it all messy haha. How did you comb that out?
You look so good like this :-) I think the 1700s were def your era :-) x
Beautiful! thanks so much!
I'm totally doing this right now. I actual am, what with Halloween and all. :D
I can't really remember to be honest. I'm pretty show at hair, so it probably took me around a hour.
It'd probably be best for you if you tried it out by doing a test run to see how long it would take you.
Good luck!
@jessicaxnyao Glad you like it! :)
WOW!
that is so intense!
ilove it!! ^^~
im god i love this tutorial, and i love the lill heart you draw!!!! =***********
@MystiqueMakeup Could you do a tutorial for Queen Elizabeth Hair? Would be soo helpful! Need that soon.
that really rocks
this is marvellous!!!! how did you learn?
@diatomshells It was pretty amazing! x
@BellDema Thanks! Would love to see photos :) xx
Hope it goes well, I'd love to see a photo of it!
@MistiqueMakeup Ha, how funny, I just send ur video a friend to see what great hairstyle you do here and what im going to wear and he was absolutely amazed and then I recognized u answered me.
I was thinking of something like the high updo the typical elisabeth hair cate blanchett had in the movie (the golden age)
@Ligadorra Glad you like :)
and one more q: will it go with black hair and because its for school....i need a england style super curled up one. like the side ponytails that have 2 or 3 big gigantic curls. that would be great. THANKS!!! :D
@MistiqueMakeup
I will...I`m going to do this at Halloween.
very good ideas my hair is blonde so i think it would look a little better, but thanks for the good ideas
AMAZING!! ^ ^
like your video very much so trying it. I wonder how Maria Antoinette got her hair like that without hairspray.
Fantastique!
@95lucida it belonged to my grandmother :)
@KISSMEMYFOOL69 Than you :) It was my grandmothers, maybe she was with me! x :)
Alchemy Makeup Artistry , I have very long hair; it reaches about 5 inches below my hip. How could I do this hairstyle?
so pretty :D
I'd be down with that :)
Brilliant! They used wigs, back then, so your achievement surpasses most of the people who wore this style in the past. LOL
can u do a marie curie hair tutorial?? or catherine the great plz if you can that would be awesome
I'm having trouble finding decent hair curlers, which ones do you use in this video? ^^
doing it as we speak.....the only problem I am having is that I have really, really long hair and it's baby fine so I feel like I don't have enough hair up front, but still practicing and looking good...
About how long does this look take?
I need to do it to myself for a play and I need it to be under and hour and repeatable for four shows.
@Drroxxette Thanks Doll! xx :)
I gonna try this.. Hope its not to hard to do it....
@MisfitMakeupArtist aw thanks :) xx
