It is more predictable than a stock trigger. I even swapped it for one on my 103. I noticed right away the psa trigger wss actually more predictable and maybe not as light but for accuracy testing the psa trigger was better. Btw I got consistent 1.5 moa groups. Not having a crown doesn't seem to matter. My psa 103 beats all of my imports including 3 Arsenal's I've owned. Second best shooter I had was a norinco stamped nhm90. I disagree with the barrel topic I have over 15000 rounds thru my sam7 the barrel is excellent especially since I have ran nothing but corrosive ammo. Might wanna do more research on barrels button barrels are crap you will learn
That’s not even a round count that would be considered near the end of the barrel. You definitely can put a ton more rounds through that barrel and except good longevity. You can also put that many rounds through a nitrided button barrel and except the same. Most gun barrels are buttoned and 15,000 is not really a longevity test for a barrel. The difference you’re talking about between CHF and buttoned barrels would not be seen at that round count if the barrels were of both good quality. But in general I don’t think many shooters are going to get anywhere near that round count within 5 years probably.
Also what ammo are you shooting through it exactly? The only real corrosive ammo I’m aware that’s highly available for 7.62x39 is Yugoslav stuff which is kinda expensive, as the SAM7 is their x39 gun
Eh I don’t think it is a huge issue of concern especially if you don’t want to pay what you will for other 74s including similar quality ones. The chrome lining is especially not a huge issue since it’s the nitrided
you know chrome in a barrel has been know to make accuracy worse if done improperly (or with low standards) also its an ak, who tf cares if it gets some pitting.
@@chuckaule6292 still don’t want that to happen to your gun, always best to take care of them. However the chrome isn’t a thing to worry about as it is nitrided which has the same effect

When you say 'Stovepipe' that usually means the round went off, due to heat. No Firing pin strike. It kinda sounds like you had a miss feed? With no detonation? If the rd did go off Id think your receiver would show some affects.. Do not lube your gas piston. Ugh. Are you watching Robski? This is not an AR. Treat it like a Wh0r$. You've shot it over 400 times? You must be rich. I am a PSA fanboy. I have 4 pf their guns and will buy a AK74 when they are available. The customer service has been great. More guns more freedom!
I used the term stovepipe in order to visually represent what happened without using a live round. It was definitely a mag related issue as it never fed a round into the chamber but instead sent the round off to the right. I didn't say to lube the gas piston, I said to lube the area on the bolt carrier right before the piston as they tend to rub and have a lot of finish wear, even robski recommended this in a older video actually. I have 2500 rounds of 5.45 currently but just don't have the time to shoot it a lot. I wanted to get the video out now and do follow up videos at some time. This is my first PSA, I have a 1974 parts WASR, a Galil, an SLR-107, and this as my AKs currently. I am definitely surprised and happy with their quality so far.
No, you are describing a "cook off" due to extreme heat buildup in the chamber. A stovepipe is usually created by a short stroke as result of firing an underpowered round and the energy loss doesn't allow the carrier to travel far enough back to hit the ejector at a sufficient speed to expel the spent. Of all the stovepipes I've encountered they have exclusively resulted in a spent shell sticking out, never a live one. My only guess would be that a round possibly "jumped" partially past the feed lips on the magazine and was sticking up too high when the bolt was coming forward thus causing the malfunction.
Have you done any extensive shooting with one yourself? There are plenty of people with these guns who are facing no problems whatsoever. But I mean paying close to $3000 dollars for a gun worth $1000 only because it’s import banned is what you recommend? You can check out the AKOU videos where he’s put a few thousand rounds through his suppressed.
Also, it’s best that American companies do good. If import bans stop all AK imports someone’s gotta do it. There are no 74 imports so Americans gotta make them
@@zacharybatten I'm not sure I want to put too many rounds through one of these. There are plenty of people yes, but how much do they shoot the gun? Realistically it will take about 3 years to get enough of a data set on these to make the determination. $3000 for a mid tier import is also a rip off. Charging mid tier prices for a gun that is not at that level, still a rip off. If you can find an import new from a dealer its typically a reasonable price. The problem is the public comes in and buys multiple rifles then runs to gun broker and jacks up the price. I don't trust the AKOU videos anymore to be honest, they have changed quite a bit over the last year. They are a data point but i do not feel he runs the rifles as hard as he use to, nothing against him. Now don't get me wrong, I want to see PSA do well I want them to make a good rifle and have success as an American company. However, I do not feel PSA is at the level people are claiming they are at. We still see many examples of parts with bad steel and that is the basic stuff they should have down. There is just too much going on with these rifles for me to justify the money. The imports are gone due to sanctions and no one buying them, Arsenal's last parts delivery was in 2015, the rifles just didn't sell. Now that they don't have them everybody wants one. Im interested to the how KUSA holds up, but again we wont know for a few more years. I want American companies to do well, but the gun has to be safe to fire.
@@NIN34 If we base the manufacturing standards off of their previous iterations I don't see anything to be alarmed about, as I stated in the video the only prevalent issue really experienced was a first batch issue. PSA is on their 4th generation of AKs, and this is my first PSA rifle ever. I was skeptical and very nervous about the rifle at first, and I was not even planning on getting one till recently. I think if you get the chance to mess around with one you realize how well built these things are, they don't feel cheap or second rate at all. I have seen some people talk about issues they have had with the rifle, you can find a guy in the comment section with one, its a spring issue. But other than that PSA is producing really good AKs for cheap in my opinion, and I would much rather try out this $1000 AK than spend twice as much on a Russian or Bulgarian gun. I will continue to shoot this gun and test it out more, just got some 69 grain Ukrainian ammo and I will see how it likes heavier stuff, but other than that I do not feel like this is just a few steps above a IO or something, it is definitely very close to the quality of my Arsenal. I don't think videos are the best way to relay what I have here, I think the best way to learn for yourself is to drop the money and see or find someone with one and check it out from them. Speaking of KUSA it is funny, I see others talk the same way you talk about PSA towards KUSA. I see a lot of people trash on their Vityaz clone and I don't know if they will be able to make a lot of their rifles to keep up with demand, and I especially don't think they will have one ready in the next year or so. But I don't think these guns are unsafe to fire at all, this isn't IO we are talking about.

But there is no KUSA 74, they just got their 103 out and that was in the works for years. I don’t know how long it’ll take them to get a 74 to market
@@zacharybatten well at shot show it was supposed to be released this year but then you know covid..my guess is itll be out very soon tho especially since psa has released theirs
@@IronDog28 I remember only seeing videos about the 103, not sure if they actually had a 74 there or you might be confusing their 103 for a 74 but who knows how long it will take them. Probably a few years
@@zacharybatten true its the 556 version but i see them announcing a 545 version soon not that the psa version isnt a good rifle i just dont see it being worth 1000 when you can find saigas for that much fully converted
@@IronDog28 Eh, who knows how long it will take after the announcement. But I don't think their prices will be much different than that of PSA, probably around the same. Saigas only go for that if the person selling does not know what they have, most try to sell them for over $2K up to $3K. I think there needs to be a better alternative than the luck of an ignorant seller
Where did you purchase your cleaning rod? Is it a genuine AK-74, or AK-47 cleaning rod?
K-VAR has 5.45 cleaning rods in stock
It is more predictable than a stock trigger. I even swapped it for one on my 103. I noticed right away the psa trigger wss actually more predictable and maybe not as light but for accuracy testing the psa trigger was better. Btw I got consistent 1.5 moa groups. Not having a crown doesn't seem to matter. My psa 103 beats all of my imports including 3 Arsenal's I've owned. Second best shooter I had was a norinco stamped nhm90. Btw get on a longer range dude. 25 yards isn't enough to even know if that gun shoots right.
I really like the trigger a lot, as I said in the video I like it much more than the old tapcos. It is way more predictable than the tapco which honestly just breaks at some point. I assume the 1.5 moa is a test of the 103? What ammo do you use? Sadly I really only have tula 7.62 which I think is the bottom tier of ammo brands.
Also I am currently in a situation where I own 8 acres of land I can shoot on but I am having a dispute over access to that land with the neighbors and the weather has been somewhat restrictive. I hopefully plan on doing some shooting with my PVS-14 there soon when my laser comes in
@@zacharybatten you running a perst? They are decent mine kills batteries in off mode in a day or less. Splash is an issue too cuz lense isn't great quality. Under nods it's pretty bad up close you notice it alot. Nice for the money tho. I'm running the best ammo I've found that is cheap. It's 124 grain boat tail fmj from red army standard or golden tiger is also same. I've ran about 10k rounds of this stuff in the last couple years and it's amazing ammo. The 545 from the same importer branded as golden tiger is also good stuff. Both the 7.62 and 545 have shot the most consistent and accurately out of any ammo I've used. I think it's Ukrainian surplus. Ras also sells other stuff that is in the same box but look for the 124g btfmj for both 762 and 545. That is the good shit.
I think it's actually military grade ammo and the boat tail seems to make the difference.
@@tylerharris3602 The Perst is still in Russia, that sucks about the battery. I guess one thing that does suck is if that is a defective unit it is a lot harder to replace it with warranty. I actually have some Ukrainian 5.45 that is branded Lugansk but was once sold by Red Army Standard, its a 69 grain projectile which sounds very interesting since that is pretty heavy for 5.45
How sturdy is the stock lock up on the rifle?
Very sturdy, no complaints or noticeable wobble
@@zacharybatten sweet, thank you
Awsome rifle, just need to convince my wife to let me get one.
Just bring up ammo price compared to 5.56
I’m sure your wife doesn’t ask you if she needs to buy all the shoes and purses she has. Grow a pair man.
@@CaptainCreampie69 She doesn't have to convince me because she is modest with spending and doesn't buy new shoes or purses. I am the one with the expensive hobbies.
No one respects assholes on the internet.
@@zacharybatten That's a huge selling point that I want a 5.45 rifle. Cheapest I've found is 40 cents a round of wolf.
@@TALIZ0RAH You can find Ukrainian 69 Grain stuff for .33 cents a round but only in a quantity of 1,200. I just bought a case of that stuff and haven't tested it but that's a decent price.
Does anybody know if you can replace all the furniture with a different color including the folding stock?
Yes, it takes the standard AK furniture and 4.5mm stocks
@@zacharybatten thank you! So it looks like Arsenal folding stocks and hand guards would fit on this gun. Is that correct?
@@Tyson.Top-T Correct, the Bulgarian folder stocks are 4.5mm and the handguards will fit. Pretty much any handguard made the AKM/74 should fit.
@@zacharybatten Awesome!! Thanks for the help!
@@Tyson.Top-T No problem!
your malfunction was the mag
I believe so as well
These are never in stock
They tend to come in stock around 4pm on weekdays, gotta be very quick though and not picky about which one you want as any of them could be in stock
they were just in stock about 30 minutes ago. They come in stock 2-3 days a week at around 4:00 pm EST. usually sell out in 15 minutes
Uh, yeah they are in stock. You’re just not checking at the right times. Bought a 103 a few months ago now I’m waiting to take delivery of a PSAK-74.
I don’t buy an AK that doesn’t that a CHF chrome-lined barrel sorry palmetto maybe when you change it I’ll pick a couple up
Eh I don’t think it is a huge issue of concern especially if you don’t want to pay what you will for other 74s including similar quality ones. The chrome lining is especially not a huge issue since it’s the nitrided
You can’t get them even if you try anyway. 😂
you know chrome in a barrel has been know to make accuracy worse if done improperly (or with low standards) also its an ak, who tf cares if it gets some pitting.
@@chuckaule6292 still don’t want that to happen to your gun, always best to take care of them. However the chrome isn’t a thing to worry about as it is nitrided which has the same effect
I have a Chinese SKS with scope, at 25m I can hit spent 7.62x39s brass all day long with Wolf HP or FMJ, you should be able e to do the same with your 5.45x39s...if you can't then the rifle is not worth your time...so put a 3x on the rifle and see ...so let us know in your next video...thanks for the video...
I don’t have access to the distances to really test the accuracy right now. But I’m pretty confident it’s within standard AK accuracy 2-3 MOA or less
Looks ok🤷
@@the308capital I assume that as well
For 1000 dollars your getting ripped off, poor machining and bad heat treats. But hey keep paying to do the PSA QC process for them.
@@zacharybatten also, please continue to document what happens to the rifle as you use it. its a good data point to have for future reference.
