I am not nostalgic for the IPs but for the collecting of toys. I hear people say they won’t collect Valaverse because they have no nostalgia for it. For me it’s the opposite. Classified is just a skin suit of the 1:18 scale that I use to have, if I wanted a large scale and better detail of those characters I would buy the Hot toys versions. Now for Valaverse the name Action Force did what it was supposed to do I used to have the Action Force comics and the European Missions as well since back then I would get anything Joe related. Bobby scooping up the name Steel Brigade was a bonus both of those things got my attention but what held it was file cards, comics, lore, new characters that don’t feel like they are there just to check boxes. Having action points and mail a ways. I like being able to go to the website and order stuff without a hassle but I know in my heart if I was to find them in the stores and on the shelf I would leave with one every time. For all these companies that want me to give them cash for nostalgia I will say give me isles and isles of new cool looking toys on the shelf for a reasonable price and I will walk a way with something. In short it’s not the IP that I am nostalgia for it’s the action of toy collecting , to be able to go in a toy isle find a cool and unique toy and buy then, no searching online, no preorder, no what store exclusive is this. Kind of like the mystery wave Bobby has been hinting about I can’t wait to see and I am pretty sure I will get something from it but I really want to see it just like back in the 80s going into all these companies toy stores after Christmas hoping to find the very first new Joe on the shelf and buy the coolest one they have so you could look at the cross cell and see who else is coming out and which ones to look for
I don't mind a new spin on something old as long as it's good. And while I don't care for the Street Fighter games, I've always liked a lot of the characters with Guile being my favorite because of Street Fighter the animated series. Also, Wrestling Bios does some good work too
After collecting a lot of lines over the last five years, I’m down to strictly GI Joe Classified and I love the new characters as much as I love the ones from my childhood. I like the updates and I don’t want slavish copies of the ones I grew up with. I like that the characters grow and evolve over time. I sold off anything that isn’t Classified or Classified adjacent.
I get what you’re saying. It’s funny though cause I feel almost opposite about Classified. Rehashing characters and designs, they’ve had one new character and he looked like Beachead V3.
