Learn Spanish Verbs: Ir & Venir (to go & to come)

  • I will teach you how to use the Spanish verbs "to go" and "to come" in only 9 minutes. Many Spanish learners use only one verb -- IR or VENIR -- instead of the other, or think they can use either verb in any context. In this video, I will give you key information so you can start using these Spanish verbs correctly. In less than ten minutes you will cover an important topic in order to improve your Spanish. For example, you will learn that English speakers say "Are you coming to the show?" or "Are you coming here?" and it makes sense in English even if the first one implies that the show will be held somewhere else and the second one will be held in the place where the speaker is. This will not happen in Spanish. One verb needs to be "to go": "ir", "yo voy, tú vas", and the other “to come”: "venir" "yo vengo, tú vienes". Topics like this one are not explained in Spanish textbooks properly. One verb is explained first and much later the other verb is explained. In this lesson you will learn both at the same time so that the difference is more clear to you, and so that you start using two important verbs at once and correctly. So watch my lesson and learn more Spanish in a fast yet simple way.

    The best part about this video is that you look so excited to teach, which makes me excited to learn. My main goal when I get to my Spanish class is to get out. I can't tell you enough how much I wish teachers would be this happy about teaching.

      balisong46 yes, it’s the same way in English; however, we’ve mixed up the meanings due to slang.
      “Sam are you coming to my house on Friday?”
      “Sure, I’ll be there”
      In the sense of Venir
      “We’re going to the mall. Do you want to go?”
      “Sure, I’ll go”
      In the sense of Ir

    hi Ana. I translated both the explanation and subtitle to Turkish for this video. I hope it will be available in a couple days. And I hope it will help Spanish learners (like me) from Turkey to learn more from your videos. thanks for these beautiful videos. When I have time, I will try to add Turkish subtitle to your videos. but it took like 2 days to add it.

    Very helpful. Gracias. You are also pointing out a misuse of English. If the party is already underway and I am at the party I should ask, Are you coming to the party? If it is a future party, then I should ask, Are you going to the party? However, that is not how English is currently being used. It's like, they get what I mean and so all is understood.

    • @shycat5905
      @shycat5905 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      zenistic you are right. In English it not correct to ask someone Are they coming to a party that's elsewhere.

    • @thommartin4047
      @thommartin4047 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is correct in English to ask if someone is coming to a party if it is your party or you are hosting said party. If the party is someone elses and you arent hosting it then yes it should be "going". i.e. "Are coming to my/my sons birthday party?" The other way of saying it that involves going is "Are you going to come to my party?" An example of using going would ve "Are you going to the company Christmas party?"

    I think it's the exact same rules in English. It's just that we brake this rule all the time and nobody knows the difference or just doesnt care. Except your middle school english teacher. I remember being corrected for saying something like "I'm coming to the restaurant" then she'd say "No, you're going" because I wasn't talking to someone who was already at the restaurant

I should point out that "Are you coming to the party" implies that I am going to the party and asks an unspoken ''are you coming with me". If I were not going I would ask "Are you going to the party" which might imply that I am not, (although not necessarily). Typically confusing English!!
