regardless of whether you like the referee or not, it is the correct decision and excellent refereeing in this case. Don't blame the referee for the red card, blame the player for not keeping his mouth shut
I come back and watch this every couple of years. One of the funniest rugby moments seeing the realisation in Dylan Hartley's eyes that his actions have consequences
Big balls to issue the first ever red card in a premiership final, but 100% the right call. Props to Wayne Barnes for stamping out any form indiscipline or disrespect towards refs in rugby before it becomes commonplace. People like him ensure professional rugby remains a good sport to watch with proper sporting attitude.
Is it customary in televised Rugby that you can hear what the referee is saying so clearly? I have to say, that's very welcome, and I would love to see it practised in more sports!
Well done Wayne Barnes, great decision. Thankfully too, the biggest nob in rugby didn't make the Lions tour because of that. Justice was definitely done.
You got exactly what you deserved Dylan.. My sympathy is for the Saints fans who looked forward to their special day and were deprived of at least equality of “arms” by very poor discipline and leadership.
For those that criticised the ref, what do you say he did wrong ? The player had been previously warned, he was on notice. That he was also the captain only compounds his lack of leadership. .
I don't think Hartley is a cheat, he's just an idiot. Any Captain knows to listen to the referee. Barnes was forced to make both of those decisions, great reffing.
As a former referee in football, my policy was that being called a cheat is an instant red card, so in Rugby it has to be a red card, I wish referees in football could be like the ones in Rugby and actually communicate with the players, but the thing is in football I cant blame the players for having a go at the ref sometimes because the mistakes they make aren't good enough, I understand everyone makes mistakes but when you see how consistant rugby referees are it just shows how poorly football referees are trained.
referee is right, the ball must be kept in play during restarts, from halfway and/or 22meter line, hence why they are called Restarts, however if the ball does end up going out of play for whatever reason lol, the other team will get the 'option', as the ref had said. Penalty kicks are the kicks where you can kick the ball out.
I've been watching a lot of rugby clips lately. I have to say, the respect the players have for the referees is amazing! Would love to see the same in football, hockey and every other sport.

Well Done Wayne Barnes! Just like Hartley, he trained most of his life to be in that position and he's not there to be called a cheat...

The commentator said it best: "This is rugby not football. You can't speak to the officials like that." Yes! Let's keep it that way.

FIFA should be taking notes here. Respect.

can’t believe Myler kicked it straight out after being told he couldn’t kick it out 3 times😂

Barnes: “No you can’t kick out”
Outstanding refereeing. Explained the rules and held his ground.

Is there a bigger knob in rugby than Dylan Hartley? I doubt it.

Awesome from the commentators: This is rugby, not soccer. You dont talk to the officials like that.
