- Ahoy there! A while back I did a pen and ink drawing of a whale in my sketchbook that I flipped past recently - and decided it was high time to add color to it. I love everything about this! Drawing trees inside the bigger whale blew my mind. Never thought about painting with my inks, I love the vivid colors. (Gives me another excuse to expand my ink collection, LOL) I can't wait to try some of these ideas...

I just love your drawing of the humpback whale! Spent many hours out of whale watch trips when I lived in MA and CT. This technique is sooo cool. TFS
I'm crazy about the humpback that you drew! I used to work with dolphins & sea lions, & studied them & whales for many years, so I always prefer true to life images of cetaceans & other marine mammals. But I can appreciate some cartoony or cutesy images, & the stamped ones are indeed cute! I like the idea of drawing inside the image. That would be cute with some seagulls, wood pilings, a buoy etc. Love the intensity of color. It reminds me a bit of Karin pro brush markers.

So pretty! I love the effects of the bleach, especially on your drawing where it looks like bubbles. Hm. I have a few inks - time to experiment! Ok, yeah, those inks you have a $$$, but they double as decorations - I am a sucker for pretty bottles.

I love the color and well it’s time for another class so I’m off to see if anything I want to do is on sale or not. I really liked the inks.
Painting over the top of an ink makes me nervous, this is so interesting to watch. Must be similar in intensity to derwent inktense as far as the color goes though I’m sure they respond much differently.
What do you think about the long term effects of using bleach? I am wanting to use it to erase mistakes or smudges but I worry about archival effects. Thank you
I haven’t had pieces around long enough to asses…I wouldn’t think it’d last for years? But I don’t know. Maybe ask Nick Stewart, I bet he’s done testing.
The stamped line on top of each whale appears red in this video after adding the ink. Is that a video artifact or was there some bleed between the stamp ink and the bottled ink?
I think it’s a digital thing, the finished pieces look fine.

With some inks yes. They all have different properties 🥰
What bleach are you using?
Just regular clothing bleach.
