Bold Alligator 14: Recon and Amphibious Assault Marines Attack the Shore

Marines with 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, slipped onto Onslow Beach, N.C., early Nov. 4, 2014, to secure a beachhead for the assault amphibious vehicles of 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division.
The training exercise was one of many ongoing operations taking part during Bold Alligator 14, a scenario-driven event designed to test the Navy-Marine Corps team’s ability to conduct multifaceted operations from a base of support at sea.

its already in the fleet, well at least some units. I got out a year ago, and my grunt unit was getting them on my way out. Well at least the machine gunners in our platoon were.. 2/24, 4th Marine Division, Rah!

Betcha in a near peer high intensity battle the enemy won’t even notice ships hiding over the horizon or amphibians full of Marines be-bopping between the waves protected by Velcro patches and dark ballistic shades. 💪🏽

That’s why amphibious assaults are a specialized component of combat. The enemy sees you coming, and if it is a contested assault, then there is only one direction the marines can go. Forward. Regardless of how dug in and weaponized the enemy is, you’re only going forward. There has never been or will be a retreat from the beach. No going backwards.
