      It is honestly a freaking good climber .... not just for what it is (beast on descent) but a good. Climber on tech climb or steep section due to the platform and the climbing position.
      Put mine at 170mm at the front instead of 180
      New geo:
      63’9 ha
      77,4 sa
      464 reach(so put a 40mm stem)
      Bb lower by 3 mm
      wheelbase shorter by +-5mm
      It helped me being more on the front of the bike on descending ... And help the climbing position too

  • @stevebond5326
    @stevebond5326 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    thank you pinkbike and great comments from fellow riders. does it really pedal more efficiently than the old enduro? you can make it to the top of a hill faster? changing the axle path? of the the rear wheel so it moves backwards slightly must hurt pedaling efficiency. that is a straight up downhill bike type of design and not helpful to moving forwards unless you are trying to keep stable on a downhill run at speed.and, you guys might be too young to know this but if this new bike looks like a nomad it's because the nomad look is similar to the demo line of bikes which specialized came out with long before the new nomad.

    A question for Jason - could you guess how you would fit a S5? I'm 6'2" and spent 1 day on S4 which felt sort of okay (I guess it would start to feel smaller after few days) and then 3 days on S5 and that surprisingly didn't feel too large/long. My current bikes have reach 475 mm (Nordest Bardino L) and 465 (2014 Enduro 29 XL), so the S5 511 mm reach is way longer but didn't feel too weird. Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!

    • @pinkbike

      Personally I'd probably find the S5 a little long. The S4 hits the reach sweet spot for me on both climbing and descending. I ran the same 40mm stem (down from 50mm) as Kaz as well. You're a little taller than me though so I'd say try before you buy! - Jason

    Just hate the look of asymmetric chainstays on bikes.. makes me think that the bike will corner better on one side than the other even when I know that's not the case. Why do bike designer's do that ? Anyone know !

    I’m enjoying the bike so far th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

      This suspension layout is about to be the new trek session

    • @pinkbike
      @pinkbike  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's because it isn't - this is a Horst Link design (see the pivot on the chainstay?), while Santa Cruz uses a VPP design, which uses two counter-rotating short links. From a distance there are visual similarities due to the shock location, but they're definitely not the same.

    • @energ8t
      @energ8t 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patents fully protect and differentiate suspension designs between brands. Any IP infringement which emulated Santa Cruz from Specialized would never happen.
