    Awesome, thanks!
    The next step should be ability to group properties into folders to hide all technical ones and leave clean UI for users. Hiding/Displaying isn't enough already IMO.

      100% agree, I requested that functionality more than a year ago 🥲

    Bro I can't believe it hahah. I already do use that setup before even sub-items ever existed...the difference now is that we have a interface to that toggle button... thats amazing.
    I'm only talking about sub-items and not dependency

    Thanks so much for this video! Do you happen to know if Notion will allow dynamic updates if you move a dependent task? For example, you moved showed what happens when you move Task 1 after Task 2; is there a configuration that would dynamically adjust the schedule of the dependent tasks accordingly

    I like it and thx for the video. For me, I'd just use another task mgmt platform that already has this set up and connect it to notion or coda.

    Great tutorial, I have a quick question if you know the answer
    I am using sub-items as a way to track specific data for a parent item. I am using the number bar to give the sub-items a rating, it is possible to have the sub items rating numbers display as an average in the parent item box?

    • @aNotioneer
      @aNotioneer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad it was helpful 🙌 Yes, you can calculate the average rating from the sub-items with a rollup property and then display the number in that property as a number bar. Hope that helps!

    I'm looking for a way to make a formula base formula sub items
    look at it like a receipt.
    in which the parent is the receipt itself and sub items are the items being sold.
    I wanted to all the price of the sub items be total to a property from the parent.
    is that even possible?

    Thank you so much for your video! Perhaps you can help me with a little experiment of mine: I'm using the new Notion Projects/Tasks feature that was recently released. Project1 has Task1, Task2 and Task3 associated to it. Task2 is dependent on Task 1 and Task 3 is dependent on Task 2. I want to only view one task at a time, so what formula do I need to write so that:
    I ONLY see Task1 in view > I complete Task1 > Task1 disappears > I ONLY see Task 2

    Is it possible to create a template that has a list of subitems that get created each time you create a new parent from that template? Haven't been able to get this done and it's driving me nuts!! Thanks for a great video, easiest I've seen so far on sub items.

    • @aNotioneer
      @aNotioneer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at the moment unfortunately, the recurring page creation feature still doesn’t play nicely with relations. That’s where this th-cam.com/video/caQWkcbEGiw/w-d-xo.html solution still applies. You’d create a template for parent pages that contains pages for the sub-items (they don’t need to be inside a template button) + a linked database view with the sub-items relation filtered by the name of the page template. When you create a new parent page, apply the template and drag the pages for the sub-items into the linked database view to link them to the parent automatically. Bit of a manual process unfortunately but a lot quicker than creating each sub-item by hand.

    • @PilotInstitute
      @PilotInstitute ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aNotioneer I was afraid that was the solution, but like you said, that's better than manually typing this. Thanks for getting back to me quickly,. I hope your channel growth fast, you have great content and quality videos, keep up the good work!

    Quick question. Is it possible to display scheduled sub-items in a calendar view?
    I have a parent Item with a schedule and sub-items with schedules as well. My goal was to show the sub-items inside the parent Item so that I could easily see the full schedule and the schedule for each sub-item in the calendar view, but the sub-items simply disappear when I toggle the option.

    • @aNotioneer
      @aNotioneer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately you can't display sub-items along with parent items in the Calendar view. You could try using the Timeline view instead though.

    • @alextheshinymonkey
      @alextheshinymonkey ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aNotioneer Thanks for the help. I tried the Timeline view, but it is just so messy to look at when you have a lot of items in there that i doesn't really fit my needs :/

    Im wondering if I should just make a project database and use the parent item property for related project and sub-items for tasks? Seems less confusing that way idk

    • @aNotioneer
      @aNotioneer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d generally recommend keeping projects and tasks separate because even though there’s some overlap between the properties, it’ll give you more flexibility as you develop your workspace. If you’re just getting started with Notion though then it can work to combine the two databases.

      @@p00j35 I received a reply from Notion on this:
      “As I've seen the screen recording video you provided, it shows that you applied a "filter" on that database where the subitems are created. At the moment, this feature only applies to parent items. I'm sorry about that. However, our Engineering team is looking into extending functionality to subitems further down the road, but we don't have a timeline to provide.”

    • @p00j35
      @p00j35 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mobilemassey lol so it works in other views, but not a table view.
      A good update, but seems it needs to be more robust for our use case.

    When duplicating a parent item, all subitems are linked to the original parent item. But I want the new subitems to be related to the new parent item.
    How do I resolve this?

    • @AndersonKuba
      @AndersonKuba 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is no solution, but I learned one thing. If a task has many subtasks, then it's not a task, it's a project.
      So I created another table called projects, to organize tasks by projects.@@marcosviniciusag

    This is awesome! now how do we add sub items in bulk?

    • @aNotioneer
      @aNotioneer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sub-items are just entries in your database that are linked to a parent page so you could either add them from a table view of the database or from the linked database view that's included in the parent page template which I demoed at 04:07. I hope that helps, just let me know if you're getting stuck somewhere when trying to create sub-items

    I can't really understand why using sub-items would be any better than using separate databases. In fact, it seems a lot more confusing and difficult to manage, without providing any additional benefits.

    • @aNotioneer
      @aNotioneer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd tend to agree with you there, some people really wanted to be able to create sub-tasks though 😅

    • @epesnikapesnik
      @epesnikapesnik ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm planning on using those for the research repository database. Research pages will be parent items while notes from interviews with individual participants will be sub-items. I feel like it helps tidy it up since the notes aren't an independent piece of the database (although they need their own page and editing).
      In this case, would you still recommend separate databases? 🤔
