    Gotta tip my hat to any pianist who can handle that transcription. And here, it's handled expertly! A wonderful performance!

    Just great performance of what is perhaps the most listened-to of Tatum's several recorded Tiger Rag versions. Bravo and thanks for sharing!

    His command of this genre is outstanding. So much fun to hear and watch him play, and so glad that we were introduced last fall at a community concert in Ft. Morgan, Colorado! Bravo, Barron!

    This is the BEST performance of Tiger Rag on TH-cam apart from Tatum himself, in my opinion! Those leaps at 1:56 are really impressive!

      not because people cant play but this piece is so difficult

      Agamaz Sure but I think if people took it seriously as a "classical" piece, there would be more instances of this being played to this standard. Same with Liszt's etudes which were once considered close to impossible but is now standard rep for every aspiring concert pianist.

      Agamaz Add to the fact that there aren't many classical pianists who manage to perform "swing" pieces and get the feel right. Barron Ryan here is one of those rare ones who are able to do that. I myself have an ambition to include swing-based pieces in my own concert performances (I'm hoping I become good enough to be able to do this, of course).

    Well god damn. The closest I've heard to Tatum on youtube. Well done!!!

      then you are not looking hard enough. Johnny Costa, Paul Barton.

      @Santosificationable 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agamaz Yes but Costa and Barton have not recorded this piece. He may have been referring to this piece in particular. There are lots of jazz players as good as Barron Ryan but when it comes to Tiger Rag, this is the best cover I know.
