This U of L team had mad chemistry. 2 sharp shooters and excellent forwards. Billy Thompson had matured into one of the better all around players in Basketball.

This was the beginning of Duke basketball’s excellence under K. They would go on to make 6 of the next 7 FFs from 1988-1994, including 2 titles. By then Duke was a household name and love or hate um, most know the rest.
Fun trivia: In 1985, the year prior to this tournament, Duke had a highly seeded team upset by Boston College in the 2nd round. They were coached by Gary Williams, who would go onto be a thorn in his side at Maryland. K got the better of it in the long run but quite the history between long tenured coaches. After that ‘85 upset Duke had really become Duke.

If you look closely at the very end, after Jeff Hall steals the final inbounds pass, inexplicably drives to basket and gets partially clotheslined by Danny Ferry, Hall chucks the ball at Ferry's legs. LMAO

Watching the 1986 NCAA Championship UofL vs Duke. Funny things to notice? No 3 point lines. The CBS announcers were hyped on Duke. "Duke is one half away from winning their first National Championship..." The Cards never gave up,featuring five future NBA players on the team. My first year at UofL, we were fresh off the 1980 NCAA Championship. There were still champions walking around campus. My freshman year we lost to Georgetown in the Final Four. My sophomore year, we beat UK before losing to Arkansas on a miracle shot. My junior year we lost to UK in the semifinals. My Senior year was NIT, then the following year we won the NCAA Championship vs Duke. Those were good years to be a UofL student and fan. So many memories.

14:33 Brent Musburger has been commenting on the appearance of people on the air all the back to 1986. I still don't understand why people made such a big deal out of those Katherine Webb comments. It is just what he does.

3 Duke starters and their box score FG's: Amaker 3-10, Alarie 4-11, and Henderson 5-15. That's 12-36 (33%). Alarie and Henderson fouled out. Pervis had a brilliant night, but that's how you lose a NC game.
