Thank you much for posting this! The period between roughly 1978-1984 is THE greatest period in college basketball history. As Roy Williams says of the period in the N 1983 North Carolina State title documentary (ESPN 30 for 30), "the players were better, the the competition was better, the games were better (than today). Amen. I was about 7 then. I didn't really begin to watch basketball until the following year, but as historian of the game, I became aware of it's greatness and significance.
Without a doubt, this is one of the great games in tournament history (including the Notre Dame/Duke game), and THIS Duke team is one of the greatest in program history. This Duke team ranks with any of the Coach K teams.
Great game, great footage. Thank you.

Gene Banks, prior to the game, had received two death threats, however Banks was unaware as coach Bill Foster held the information from him. @@allenwilliams4371 They were pretty talented, but young, and they beat a good Notre Dame team in the Final Four. Anyway, all that matters is scoreboard. I still think UK was the best team in 2015, but they didn’t get it done against Wisconsin and unfortunately Duke took that trophy home.

@@allenwilliams4371 Garbage post. Duke had Gminski, Banks, Spanarkel, Dennard, Harrell, Bender. Then added Vince Taylor (6 NGA players) Duke beat Kentucky twice in Rupp Arena in 1979-1980 with mostly the same team, including in the Sweet 16.

Hey is there a TH-cam link to the next year's opening game between Duke and Kentucky? Tip-off classic or hall of fame classic when Kentucky had Sam Bowie. Or Gminiski vs Sampson 1st time. Same year.
