      In fairness it does kind of make sense, if a big deal is made regarding the time of death then it makes sense that the person that best stands to benefit is a person that appeared to have an iron clad alibi, especially as under certain circumstances the determining of time of death can be subjective and can have more than an hour or two discrepancy, a 2 hour window is more than enough time to end up somewhere else in front of a large group of people.

      Yes Sir, 35mm motion picture film, like all Columbo episodes. Going full nerd mode: The 1970s episodes were shot in the 1.37:1 Academy format (also called full frame). The newer episodes were shot for the 16:9 format, meaning cropped and zoomed-in. So technically the later episodes are a bit inferior, but the newer, more refined film stocks at the time made the image quality even better.

I have noticed in the past, even old 1960's movies look very sharp when broadcast in high definition on modern high definition LCD TV's compared to the way I originally saw them on CRT televisions of the past.

    Rewatched this performance many times: it's a theatrical highpoint by everyone involved.
    Notice at 5:40 the role reversal where the bad guy interrupts his exit and is deliberately (Columbo-like) annoying:
    "ohh, but you know ,, that ticket writing. I don't think there's anyway of beating that thing.. This might be the first case I've ever lost in my life. Well, bye."
    The writer's are indulging in putting Columbo's schtick on the other's scene. The audience is included with their awareness of the theatrical sarcasm, and makes catching the murderer more satisfying.

    I could see the killer walking from this. In court he’d use the “If there’s the slightest shadow of a doubt, you can’t convict me for this!” line. After all, if OJ can walk after the mountain of evidence (including DNA) against him, a tiny shadow, or rather, lack thereof, wouldn’t be enough to convict this killer either.

      Please remember we never see any of Columbo's cases go to trial. So it could be possible that a tonne of his cases were thrown out of court for lack of evidence, entrapment and underhanded methods of Columbo. Maybe this is why he gets treated poorly. Ever thought of that?

    • @johnnybrighton9156
      @johnnybrighton9156 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnking5174 You could say the same of most detective dramas that don't include the court case. But in Columbo, you generally get the impression that when their "perfect crime" is punctured by a superior intellect, the villains lose all confidence and probably go to court pleading guilty, their humiliation a punishment in itself. In the Johnny Cash episode, the murdering gospel singer tells Columbo in time he'd have given himself up anyway.
