A friend was a gunner in that fight. He said he turned off the part of his brain that saw more than just approaching armor, and kept shooting. He didn't say much about it when it came up, but you could tell it deeply affected him years later. He almost sounded guilty that the Iraqis didn't have a chance.
As someone who's really into tanks an dreams of being a Abrams crewman, I really wanted to ask. What are your thoughts on Abrams armor and how it compares today to Russian tanks and If it matters at all (as in face to face with other tanks and ATGMs, ofc stuff like Javelin are weakness to all tanks now)?
The Challenger had similar advantages, but with agreater range on HEAT. Sabot not so much as the rifling held no advantage and actually needed specially adapted rounds. Putin will find out soon, along with the excellwnt German Leopards.
@BoTheSheep Abrams armor saved my ass on more than one occasion on deployments to Iraq. Today's Russian tanks don't stand a chance as those are cold war tanks. The T -14 Armada is all electrical and will never see combat since they can never figure out their issues. As FAR as ATGM is concerned the Abrams just acquired the trophy APS and is only equipped in country as its a waste to equipment them stateside.

Pro tip, let off the palm switch (quickly release right mouse button) to 'dump the lase' to stop the sight from trying to add lead (the reticle slewing) as you move from target to target. Be cautious though, as you re-lase, you can burn out/overheat the laser range finder from too many consecutive re-lases in a row.
I always wondered about the ability to burn-out the laser rangefinder. Why is it so easy to do on the Abrams compared to the ones used on attack helicopters, for example? As far as I'm aware this issue only affects the Abrams laser rangefinders.
@@FlyboyHelosim I think you can burn out the laser on most tanks, if not then it might be a weird thing going on that hasn't been worked out. Helicopters usually have special attention given to their sensors and targeting systems more than anything else because a heli without any situational awareness is 100% dead. Also won't be of any use when the missile you just launched doesn't work because the laser is fried lmao Could be the power supply or different frequencies and intensities of the laser, one is just to designate and the other needs to relay information
13:30 You're talking about the battle of 73 Easting that indeed took place during the operation "Desert Storm" and marked the end of the Iraqi armour as a fighting force.
As a retired gunner on BMP, one fun fact. Maljutka rockets are guided by wire. With other words rocket is dragging wire behind 😄...and yes it's true, it's hard to hit without a lot of practice. We practiced at least 100 hours on simulator before we got real thing. Even in 90s when I served it was obsolete as f...k 🤣
@@freddyrock👍 Sort of, yes. Maljutka exists in two versions, carried and fired by solder on foot and BMP mounted. On BMPs there was a pack of 4. The idea about wire guiding at that time was "It can't be jammed no matter what" ...but IMHO more reasonable explanation was it was cheaper to produce 😅
@@freddyrock Yes, except the TOW has a computer that tells the missile what to do but with the Malyutka you have to fly it like a remote control airplane so it is much harder. WIth TOW you just put the crossharis on the target and wait for the missile to fly itself there.
The 113 is a nightmare, I was a 113 driver in Korea and the damn thing would work for 1 drive before having to be towed. The Bradley was a nightmare to drive but would never breakdown.
At the start, those looked like MIG-21's imo. Love that the game has enemy artillery or bomb strikes, makes the game so much more immersive. Game looks really fun! Happy to see you play it.
The Abrams first battle was against T-72's. The enemy didn't know what GPS was at the time so they were angled and orientated incorrectly as we came from a place that nobody traveled into since it was nothing but sand with no ability to cross it effectively without gps. We also had laser range finders, it allowed for us to shoot at them accurately from much further away and with thermals and better night vision technology we could see them in harsh conditions such as sand storms and at night.
The voice acting absolutely makes this game. Really gets your heart pumping hearing the commander scream over your shoulder as a line of T-72s push your position
I had a tough time adjusting to the older FLIR system in the Abrams and the absolute dogshit thermals in the Gen 1 Bradley. I was a Bradley Commander on the M2A3 and the FLIR in that was absolutely nuts. It can generate a lead on moving targets with the 25mm which is super accurate. I can't wait until the devs add newer vehicles into the game. As of right now, all the vehicles are Cold War Era. They stated that they won't add newer vehicles unless they add a theater where they make sense
It was the Battle of 73 Easting vs T72s lead by then CPT, later LTG McMaster. I was MI then but a TX ARNG M1 TC later in the late 90's and you mentioned the thermals...we could see deer and cattle in the training areas on Ft Hood out miles and even see a dude's pee against a cold background in the woods half a mile out with the 10x main gun sight. Crazy.
the IFV combat in this game is insane too, switching between the auto-cannon & ATGM's to take out everything from armor to helicopters attempting to kill you is one hell of an experience. bought it on a whim today and spent all of my sunday familiarizing myself with the M2 Bradley, quite the experience especially since its on sale for the remainder of this weekend.
I’ve been supporting this games development on Patreon for a while. Great team who so frequent dev streams to keep in touch with their community. Definitely consider supporting them with a purchase. In future updates they plan on adding CAS support (non-playable, you just call them in on a grid square) and more nations too. Next I believe they’re adding Soviet Russia with T-80’s and later the Brundeswehr with Leopard 1’s etc. Lots of potential here :).
Tip with the bmp you can use the pkt as a rangefinder since the trajectories are so close. Works as far as you can still see the tracers or if you wanted to you could watch the damage report.
I was in Ghost troop 2/2 ACR in the battle of 73 easting during "desert storm". The first kill was point blank. That was either my tank or our plt leaders. A lot was happening at the time, which is a whole story unto itself. The long shots happened toward the end of the battle. My gunner hit a target at 4700 meters. Took him a few tries, but he landed it. The main body of the Tawakalna republican guard tank force was made up of T-72's. The 12th Armored Division and 9th Armored Brigade had a mixture of older tanks.
I just want one Squad type game with this or similar damage system ok tanks might get overpowerd in some situation but again if you hit it good ones its gone
15:00 - actually russians doesnt use M1/A variants of T-72. They use mostly B variants with completely changed turret armor and improved hull armor. Thermals were introduced in T-72B3, T-80UM, T-90A. "fun" fact from Desert Storm operation - There were T-72M variants facing Abrams tanks (so much more poor version of the tank in this game), together with T72 Ural (propably) and T-55.
@@ActionScripter LOL in that case good choice for jets. i think it's real cool when folks give exposure to the lesser known airframes, or obscure variations of already-famous birds too
@@blessthismessss Not to mention the fact that East Germany was a pretty heavy operator of the Mig-23BN, but never received any MiG-27s, so it makes sense that he would add the Mig-23BN
If anyone's wondering about the jets, they were definitely either Mig-23s or Mig-27s. The airframe of those two is the exact same so it's hard to tell without looking at the nose of the planes in question.
During the Gulf War Abrams and Challanger tanks destroyed over 100 T-72s and over 500 T-55s while proving impenatrable to even the 3BM15rounds fired back.
3MB15 was already considered obsolete by the 1980s and even the original m1's armor can effectively stop It at any range. So going against m1a1s and challenger 1 was going to go about as well as you think
It’s easier when using the Malyutka is aim the crosshair on target and before launching drag down to around the cross at the bottom of the sight. The missile naturally goes upwards so you have to adjust constantly. And it’s not advised to use the missile from below 500 meters in my experience.
The jets were MIG-27s, a close air support jet used by the Soviets. It was created by taking a MIG-23, cutting the nose in half, and strapping the 30mm rotory cannon from a naval AK-630 CWIS to the bottom.
The NBC protection found within Soviet vehicles was actually a pretty cool design that would've given safe haven from immediate effects from nuclear detonations since the Soviet Union absolutely assumed that some aspects of their society and ground forces would survive a nuclear exchange which would mean that a ground war would be inevitable after the bombs fell.
a little fun fact about the malyutka, if you let go of right click after firing and you have lined it up to where it is intercepting the target, it will center itself out. what you can do then is give small commands if it is off target
I'm pretty sure those jets at the beginning were either Mig-23BNs or Mig-27s. You can tell by the slanted nose. Great video though, Would love to see more GHPC!
Strykers have a thermal system built in for the driver and troop compartment where the infantry are held. It's definitely not the best, but the LRAS some strykers equip have insane thermals and probably some of the best magnification ever made.
Who else wants to see co-op gameplay with Drewski and PhanPhantasy once the feature is added? 14:52 - Tank nerd correction, they are using the T-72B3/M not the T-72M1. The T-72M1 was specifically an export variant for the GDR and other Ex-Soviet states.
Spall are fragments of metal that flake off from the inside of surface of a vehicles hull but typically stay within their compartment of origin. Still very dangerous. Those x-ray views are showing the penetration from the round itself. Spalling can happen with or without round penetration but once that HEAT enters the crew cabin, spalling obviously becomes less of a concern.
What are you smoking? There's a reason why the Saudi's keep ordering more, they're getting blown up by the dozens. Even in US service, they've taken losses. During Operation Desert Storm, 7 Abrams tanks were completely destroyed by friendly fire. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, the US lost a further 17 Abrams tanks. Modern anti-tank weaponry has no problem destroying an M1 Abrams, as seen frequently during the Yemeni civil war and the third Iraq war (against ISIL). US losses are relatively low because killed tanks can be recovered and repaired in many cases. Operation Iraqi Freedom saw over 500 Abrams tanks being shipped back to the US for repairs, so they've definitely taken lots of hits. There is also loads of footage of Abrams tanks being destroyed by IED's, in some cases launching the turret up to 160 feet. These were later recovered and 'repaired'. In many of these cases, they simply repaired the turret and slapped it on a new hull. Either way, the M1 Abrams tank has plenty of combat losses.
what i want is a new arcade like tank game to come out but in the modern era kinda like armored warfare except that it isnt on full blown life support since the get go and that the studio actually works on the game
I am absolutely in love with this game, even in its early development stages it has a lot of potential and is super fun. I love the tiny details that wouldn't matter to most, for example I love the kill feed that explains where your rounds hit/what damage occurred, and the after action reports so you can understand what your rounds did (Reminds me of sniper elite, and also War Thunder, but please don't hate on me for mentioning WT, I play that game as well, so I understand).
I have been DYING because there has not been a good tank game in years. Remember watching my dad play tank combat sims in late 90's early 2000 and it looked AMAZING! this looks just like it but modern! Have to buy it!
the way you have to aim, it gives that machine feeling, something that WT is lacking ... small but very important feature, in WT you can die in miliseconds because someone will be able to aim at you very easily
Those aircraft you were seeing were MiG-23 or MiG-27 (probably were MiG-23 since the DDR didn't operated the MiG-27 which is the ground attack version of the MiG-23).

it won't be in the base game, the British Army of the Rhine wasn't operating near Fulda in '85, and the game is set exactly in 1985 so no vehicles produced after that year will be in the game

This game is absolutely amazing and deserves so many more players, I've been playing it since it was only avaliable on browser. Thank you for covering this great game.
The jets seen at the beginning would've been either the MiG-23 or MiG-27 Flogger
Yeah, I was thinking Mig 27:s as well. Super interesting aircraft that one!
Looked like Mig27s. The one with the weird gun lol
Its probably a mig-23bn since its east german
@@josol_1547 very possible considering the East German emblem on the side of the Soviet vehicles.
@@brandondigiuseppe1111 the soviets aren’t in the game yet so it should be east german. But since a west german f4 has also been spotted in a mission without west german tanks being in game the mig could maybe still be a soviet version.
Also won't be of any use when the missile you just launched doesn't work because the laser is fried lmao
Could be the power supply or different frequencies and intensities of the laser, one is just to designate and the other needs to relay information
Tank commander: TRAVERSE LEFT FIRE FIRE FIRE!
Gunner:FIRING
Loader: Up🗿
13:30 You're talking about the battle of 73 Easting that indeed took place during the operation "Desert Storm" and marked the end of the Iraqi armour as a fighting force.
As a former Army Tanker, this is on point with crew drills, commands, optics and fires. 🤘🏻 Solid game!
Press ctrl + lase to drop lead without having to let go of the right mouse button. Helps a lot with reaquiring targets!
That blood curdling scream feels too real
it makes me tremble, unbelievable
This game legitimately scared me with those voice lines, there needs to be military themed horror games lol
@@FlippidyDooDoggy Spec Ops: The Line: "Am I a joke to you?"
Whoa! I didn't know that. I guessed it was radio controlled, but that makes more sense. Rare to find a BMP crewman in the comments - thanks!
So Maljutka is kind of like the BGM-71 TOW ?
@@freddyrock👍 Sort of, yes. Maljutka exists in two versions, carried and fired by solder on foot and BMP mounted. On BMPs there was a pack of 4. The idea about wire guiding at that time was "It can't be jammed no matter what" ...but IMHO more reasonable explanation was it was cheaper to produce 😅
@@freddyrock Yes, except the TOW has a computer that tells the missile what to do but with the Malyutka you have to fly it like a remote control airplane so it is much harder. WIth TOW you just put the crossharis on the target and wait for the missile to fly itself there.
din't you guys where supposed to have the laser guided one ?
GHPC is fire. Had it the last few weeks and all I can say is that I've lost some evenings to it. The Bradly is pretty fun to use.
I love how the crew is screaming when they are hurt, it's so we'll voice acted, sadly it seems only to be the Abrams now
WIP. Relax.
Very cool seeing you in GHPC! The game is sick!
for real
Nothing shits your pants more than hearing “GUNNER, COAX, ANTI-TANK!”
just wait for
GUNNER SABOT CHOPPER
Played as demo a few months back and holy shit it's so much more polished. Great game.
The 113 is a nightmare, I was a 113 driver in Korea and the damn thing would work for 1 drive before having to be towed. The Bradley was a nightmare to drive but would never breakdown.
The Bradley killed more tanks than anything in the gulf war
At the start, those looked like MIG-21's imo. Love that the game has enemy artillery or bomb strikes, makes the game so much more immersive.
Game looks really fun! Happy to see you play it.
I believe they are mig 23s with their wings unswept
No, those are MiG 23 or 27, forget which they have in game.
Mig 27 100% bc mig 27 were made to be fast ground pounders.
MiG-23BN, East German
those look nothing like mig21's lmao, judging by the nose they're mig27's
As someone who grew up playing Microprose M1 Tank Platoon 2 back in the early 90s, I am really looking forward to this game
This is sit in the fulda gap in 1985 so way are you talking about the battle of 73 easting ?
@@robingrewal8103 If you watched his video, he asked about it.
Crazy.
played their vertical slice way back and fell in love, the game is just on another level.
First one was a MiG-27, the one at 18:16 looks like the silhouette of a MiG-21 (Could be a MiG-27/MiG-23 too though)
“Hey guys, Drewski here and today we’re playing gunner heat pc”… instantly hit with TOW
*rolls intro*
*immediately gets rocked by a shell*
the IFV combat in this game is insane too, switching between the auto-cannon & ATGM's to take out everything from armor to helicopters attempting to kill you is one hell of an experience.
bought it on a whim today and spent all of my sunday familiarizing myself with the M2 Bradley, quite the experience especially since its on sale for the remainder of this weekend.
I love the long road scenario, it's just a lone abrams vs a lot of tanks and ifvs
Those were MiG-23 Floggers Drewski. Possibly the MiG-23BN from what I can see regarding their flat nose. Really nice to see CAS in the game.
Battle of 73 Easting and Battle of Medina Ridge are two Gulf War One tank battles that I can think of off-hand.
THAT voice acting is what really makes you feel and realize what war is really about.
Tip with the bmp you can use the pkt as a rangefinder since the trajectories are so close. Works as far as you can still see the tracers or if you wanted to you could watch the damage report.
Those jets at 2:20 were MiG-23 Floggers or MiG-27s which were the dedicated ground attack version of the MiG-23
The 12th Armored Division and 9th Armored Brigade had a mixture of older tanks.
the effects are already looking so much better. really good to see that
Was a massive fan of M1 Tank Platoon and have been waiting for a modernized tank game. Thanks for the video.
Only took 25 years to relive those M1 tank platoon days. What next a Gunship 200 type game? Brilliant.
I love the after action x-ray shots, that's one of the features that I first saw in War Thunder that I wish were in more military games.
I just want one Squad type game with this or similar damage system ok tanks might get overpowerd in some situation but again if you hit it good ones its gone
@@rayotoxi9679 squad sorta has a system like this. If you hit the right spots with an atgm or sabot it can one shot em
Happily backed this game on patreon about 9 months ago and, still don't regret it. Can't wait to see what this game will become.
Well, since you just uploaded a video on this game, I think you may of just gave a major boost now that more people will see it
Jets at the start were MiG-27 Floggers, the ones that bombed your T-72 i believe was an F-4 indeed. The one at 18:16 was a MiG-21 fishbed, too lol
The ones at the start were MiG-23BN and the F-4 just happened to fly over during an artillery strike, but otherwise correct
@@ActionScripter the nose resembled more MiG-27 variants than one obscure ground-attacking MiG-23 variant. Occam's Razor and all that
@@blessthismessss True, but in this case I'm a dev on the game so I can say it's a 23BN ;)
So going against m1a1s and challenger 1 was going to go about as well as you think
ive been playing this a bit too, just an fyi when the commander calls out a target if you hit space it will traverse the turret to it
It’s easier when using the Malyutka is aim the crosshair on target and before launching drag down to around the cross at the bottom of the sight. The missile naturally goes upwards so you have to adjust constantly. And it’s not advised to use the missile from below 500 meters in my experience.
Drewski gets hit planespotting: "Damn I should not have been distracted there!"
Also Drewski, next mission: "Oh, planes!"
I have been wanting to get into tanks and armour in games, and this seems like a satisfying and realistic simulator that I can sink my teeth in!
It’s really good, it also has very easy to learn intuitive controls unlike other sim games that require you to have 800 keybinds
Super glad drewski found this game, I hope he makes more videos in the future
a little fun fact about the malyutka, if you let go of right click after firing and you have lined it up to where it is intercepting the target, it will center itself out. what you can do then is give small commands if it is off target
Didn't realized this video until someone mentioned it in my comments! It's nice to GHPC getting some good exposure :)
the crew screaming in the trailer was enough for this to be an instabuy
I'm pretty sure those jets at the beginning were either Mig-23BNs or Mig-27s. You can tell by the slanted nose. Great video though, Would love to see more GHPC!
That tank battle with the Abrahms was the Battle of 73 Easting.
Spalling can happen with or without round penetration but once that HEAT enters the crew cabin, spalling obviously becomes less of a concern.
fun fact about the abrams, there has never been one that has been lost in combat. there has been mobility kills but we have never lost one out right
They are photos of a penetration on them made through the ufp by sabot tho
Either way, the M1 Abrams tank has plenty of combat losses.
what i want is a new arcade like tank game to come out but in the modern era
kinda like armored warfare except that it isnt on full blown life support since the get go and that the studio actually works on the game
Jeez, the voice lines are intense!
22:22 the driver definitely wins the Darwin Award on this tank
Nice, I remember playing the military sim games from the late 80s and early 90s. This reminds of some tank commander game I played back in the days.
I just discovered this channel about 4 days ago and I am addicted. I am binging every single video
Please play more of this! I picked it up because of this video and am already like 10 hrs in, it’s so fun!
From what I can tell this is a more accessible and cheaper Steel Beasts. Great game imo and I recommend it
The particle effects are really impressive.
The second aircraft (18:24) were F-104s, probably Luftwaffe F-104Gs.
the jets at 2:03 to me looked like mig-27's. basicly a groundstrike mig-23 without it's radar but equipped with a big boi brrrrrt cannon.
That screaming of fire commands gets me every time. This is ridiculously funny.
Those aircraft you were seeing were MiG-23 or MiG-27 (probably were MiG-23 since the DDR didn't operated the MiG-27 which is the ground attack version of the MiG-23).
14:36 what is a "throwing charge"??
.
cant seem to find any info on google after using several different key words...
.
im thinking like a "Lim-lick" charge.... forget exactly how to spell it
its a big rope filled with C4 that gets shot up by a rocket....like 300 feet..... then explodes (along the length of the rope)
used to clear mines
.
also heard a story of it being fired over a house filled with bad guys
blowing up the house
.
its never a war crime the first time (im pretty sure they were told to not do that again lol)
"Throwing charge" is just the propellant charge for the T-72's shells. The propellant and projectile are separate so the autoloader can function
This game NEEDS to be the first to give the Challenger 2 it's due diligence. I would kill to play that game.
it won't be in the base game, the British Army of the Rhine wasn't operating near Fulda in '85, and the game is set exactly in 1985 so no vehicles produced after that year will be in the game
2:15 Those are Mig-27s (ground attack version of mig-23)
finally drew made a GHPC video 🙏🙏🙏
Fav thing to use in this game is the Bradley. Pretty fast, easy to use TOW, and the thud thud thud from the 25mm is perfection.
The Gulf War and Desert Storm we're the Abrams tank showed its capabilities against old Soviet tanks especially at night since the enemy didn't have night vision or thermal
Nice video. Please upload more of this. Glad to see you being wrecked! I had seen some other youtubers playing this and the AI seemed to be rather dumb!
I knew it was gonna be Gunner Heat PC! Just from the first three words of the title and thumbnail. Great game.
Gunner, heat, PC is such an enjoyable game to play, also those jets at the beginning are either MiG-23 or 27s depend on the nose of the aircraft.
Mig-23BN.
@@robertolesiliatotacchini5023 eh Yh I guess that does make more sense.
