    I am a kind of new subscriber, i indeed watch your video’s because i recently got a free playmatic speakeasy that didn’t work at all. Because your youtube channel and the video with the playmatic i had a lot of tips that i used for mine playmatic. Now its fully function again. So thanks for all of you’re advice. Bytheway i think you’re an asome guy with a great sense of humor. So i don’t get bored and i keep on watching your video’s every time and keep on learning ( maybe for future projects ) . So keep on doing what you are doing. Greeting from me ( Emiel ) from the Netherlands 🇱🇺

    If I had known you had that machine there, I would have driven the 5 hours to your shop just to "help" you play test it. Silverball is one of my dream machines that I want in my home. I would love to find one in that condition that I could bring back to life. And enough complaining about the condition of the Fluke meter people! It is a working man's meter. I have the same Fluke 23 and mine is almost as dirty with grime from the airplanes I worked on. Also: VOC = Volatile Organic Compound.

I haven't seen one of these in years, but I remember how it sounded and looked. Beautiful backglass. Thanks, Ron!

    I watch almost every single video :)
    As for fuses, I am no longer surprised at how many people simply don't understand that the fuse is there to protect everything after it. The wiring may be able to hand more than 2A, everything after it may be able to handle more than 2A, but the fuse will be set to the point, as you say, to stop catastrophic issues (such as fires).
    Yet when a fuse blows, people will replace it with the same, when that blows, they will up it, when it blows again, they will just keep upping it till it stops blowing, and now they have a fire hazard.

    • @LyonsArcade

    Summer, 1980 - Lewisville Tx. bowling alley - game room - Among Pac-Man, Asteroids, Space Invaders, Defender, Tempest, Missile Command, Battlezone and a few others, there stood against the back wall Silverball Mania and Firepower side by side. A 15-year old's paradise.❤ We would pick up returnable coke bottles and get our $1 from Minyards food store, and head to the bowling alley. We would put 2 quarters in Silverball Mania, play for 2 hours and build up 20 or so credits, (I was the G.O.A.T. on Silverball), and sell them all for a dollar or 2... THOSE WERE THE ALL-AMERICAN CAREFREE DAYS.

    Coming to you from beautiful down town Rock Hill Sth Carolina…. Just thought I’d put that out there as I haven’t heard you say that for a while.
    If I was leaving a machine with you I definitely would not tell you ‘don’t do anything cosmetically’. …. Why would you say that to one of the best pinball restorers around?? I don’t get that at all. This looks like it’s gonna be a lot of fun. … similar in some ways to Space Invaders??
    Thanks for posting Ronnie.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some people are trying to save a little money so if we do cosmetic stuff the price goes up. Also that's the easiest stuff to do, so they can do it themselves and save a little cash... also some people don't care as much about the cosmetics, some folks want them looking brand new, some people prefer them to look worn out and beat up, just different strokes for different folks :)
      It does kind of have a Space Invaders vibe....

    I oughta mail you a Testofon / Contitest*. It'll make measuring transistors a breeze - instead of a reading, you get a tone. Now if the tone of one transistor is different to the others -> gotcha! You can test around or over 1 transistor a second without taking your eyes off the probes.
    (btw. Made In Germany by Taco Nauert) (no I don't work for them but I absolutely love this device)
    *) they changed the name for legal reasons.

    A small amount of lye would help the meter. I love the purple degreaser. It is like $8 per gallon, and to use it as a cleaner, I say dilute it to about 20% And I'd get a spray bottle from the store too. So I put an inch or so of the degreaser in the spray bottle and fill the rest with water. And that will last a while.

    VOC stands for "volatile organic compounds". In California they have various levels of VOCs based on what their use they're put to. My employer decided to play it safe and choose the lowest level of VOCs that California allowed in any industry and said, "That's our level for everything company wide." So no more electrical contact cleaner for you guys.

    I agree with your sentiment on buying chinese products. We all have to from time to time but if you can get a locally sourced one you should try. This makes sense for all sorts of reasons. Not just geo-political ones, but from my perspective environmental. The less carbon miles on a product the better. Those container ships use some filthy fuel.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree, even on the environmental stuff. To me it's not really saving the planet, it's more why waste? Why burn up a bunch of oil to ship that crap over here when you could just make it local, buy it local, and save all the oil? I'm not really an environmentalist, I just don't like wasting things, including natural resources, when there's absolutely no reason to do it. So much of the stuff from china is just junk too, it just gets thrown away, so all that energy, materials, money wasted there too. The fact that it's harming the environment makes it even worse. If my Ice Maker cost 10 bucks more but lasted twice as long, much less wasteful and you keep something out of the dump.
      the whole idea that stuff from China can't be made for the same cost in the states is b.s. too.

    Easy way to know which leg is base is whichever leg gets you a reading to both other legs. Out of circuit, you should never read anything between collector and emitter, regardless of polarity. If you do, either there are other components (like a resistor) letting your meter current through, or the transistor is bad.

    • @ovalteen4404

      The coil wire is dipped in laquer for insulation. If it gets too hot, it can burn off its insulation, and that will make it short out without creating a strong magnetic field.
