    I was on the fence, I went with the Air 2S because of the 1" sensor, 5K video and looks like it's more stable in the wind. I don't live in Alaska, but I do live on the west coast by the beach. Wind is a part of daily life here. Usually not that strong but it can be. I am glad you pointed out how the Mini 3 gets kind of tossed around when shooting close to a subject. A lot of other TH-camrs who got the drone early seem to skip over that fact. Felt like I was watching dozens of 2 minute ads for DJI where the world is perfect and the sky is full of rainbows. And with a link to purchase.

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      well I have a link to purchase through too lol but seriously yeah if you live near the coast you will want something that can handle more wind and the Air 2s definitely does a lot better

      Yes, it's a factor for me, nothing like seeing your drone blown over the top of a ridge and can't get home.

    Hi Jake. I cannot thank you enough for this comparison. I have a Mini 2 and have been considering the Air 2S or the Mini 3 Pro as an upgrade. Given the noise of the Air 2S and the beauty of the RC controller, it looks like the Mini 3 Pro is the way to go for me. Cheers from Wisconsin.

    I've had a M1P for the past couple of years and was very excited to see the specs of the Mini 3 Pro on paper and I was positive this was going to be what I upgraded to. But this was the best comparison video between the Air 2S and Mini 3 that's I've seen so far and thoroughly convinced me that the Air 2S is what I'm going to be going with. I'm in Texas. I do a lot of hovering to record objects on the ground for my work. We've just had about 3 weeks straight of 100+F temperatures. Hearing you say that the MIni 3 does not have an internal cooling fan just took it out of contention for my use. Thanks for helping me make up my mind.

    Thanks for making these great videos! When the Mini 3 came out I was excited enough to order one as my first drone. It was backordered. In the interim I came across the Air 2S with the Pro RC controller in a fly more kit on sale for $1500. Reviews by consumers on the Air2S were overwhelmingly positive. I thought do I trust the hype or do I trust the comments of actual owners? I canceled the Mini 3 and bought the Air2S. Had it in a couple of days and have had no regrets since.

      I mean there are many comparisons by actual owners and the Mini 3 comes ahead in some, the Air2S in others. At the end of the day the difference isnt big and for that Id take the weight and price of the Mini all day because like with cameras, the drone you can actually fly and have with you is the best :)

    Great video. New subscriber. I’ve had the Mini 2 since launch. Recently bought the Mini 3 Pro and the Air2S, with the intention of returning one of them. After using both for a week, I do agree that they are both great. But, for the reasons you mention (especially the notable ‘wobble’ when hovering in high wind), I’m returning the Mini 3 Pro. Can’t go wrong with either but the Air2S worked out perfectly for me.

    • @TheFerretMan
      @TheFerretMan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mini 3 pro is marketed towards people who need the drone to be under 250g. If you live in an area or have a licence where you don't have as many restrictions, it makes no sense to go for a mini 3 over the air 2s. Much bigger sensor, better wind resistance and more reliable overall. Mini 3 pro being even close to being on par is a huge achievement and makes me excited to see a possible air 3

    • @danfoxchannel
      @danfoxchannel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TheFerretMan Actually, the quality from the Mini 3 Pro was quite compatible to the Air2S (and even a little better in low light). Without the wobble in higher wind, I would have chosen the Mini 3 Pro over the Air2S. My Mini 2 isn't comparable to either (Air2S or Mini 3 Pro), but the Mini 3 Pro and Air2S are crazy close in quality.

    I agree with you about the total cost of an Air 2S, Fly More Combo and Smart Controller. Price would definitely be high for that setup. However, I'm very happy with my Air 2S as an all round drone, despite some more recent models offering better low light performance, better battery life, etc. The Air 2S is a great all rounder without an obvious weakness and not vulnerable to environmental conditions (apart from extreme cold obviously).

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Air 2s is still one of the best performers for the price

    • @braddevendorf9901
      @braddevendorf9901 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The price for the Air2s with smart controller fly more kit ($1500) versus the Mini3 with display controller fly more kit ($1100) is not really that much more. The Air2s comes with ND filters (worth $100) and the Mini3 has none which you will need to buy later. So just about $300 more for the Air2s. But the smart controller is better with the Air2s which is also brighter 1000 nits versus the Mini3 display 700 nits. Add in all the other benefits the Air2s has to offer and it is well worth the extra money in my opinion. I need a solid flyer with high quality still pix platform and the Air2s meets my needs perfectly.

    Thanks. By far one of the best videos I've seen on comparison on these two models. Great presentation and wondered if you've heard of others having challenges with the mini3pro and losing network connection? That is, I am having some issues and believe I may be returning it for an upgrade to the Air 2s as the mini has been giving me some serious challenges. 1) while flying, occasionally, the screen turns completely light gray and a message comes up saying "Network Error" and there's no way to see through the camera or map or anything; that is the light gray screen will not remove no matter what button I push (other than the power button) and although the drone is operable, unless I can see it with the naked eye, it's no where to be found. 2) The unit drifts downward while flying when turning and I'm careful not to let the stick move downward while turning to the point it will begin to see the ground as an obstruction. 3) the unit never returns to home; the closest in RTH is 3 feet in one direction and up to 8 feet in another direction; never the same direction and never the same distance; just off and can't see the home spot even though well identifiable from surrounding green grass.

    Great comparison...... This just goes to show how well DJI markets it's next gegeration drone, considering they probably could've put the f1.7 aperture on the Air 2S to make it a real lowlight beast. So they put that on the Mini 3 instead to give it equal lowlight capability with a smaller sensor. This will be the major selling point on the Air 3. I own the Air 2S and it kinda bums me out that a cheaper entry level drone with a smaller sensor smashes mine with a 1" sensor when it comes to nightlapse etc

    Thank you for a great comparison! Really liked this video.
    14:44 The Air 2S can't run tracking at 5K. But if you're running 30fps or less and normal mode or cinematic, it will do obstacle avoidance. So when you ran it at 5K tracking was turned off, but it stopped to avoid you. When you lowered the resolution to 4K active tracking was turned on, so it would detect you and behave more smoothly.
    2:00 If I understand you correctly, you're saying that the Mini 3 Pro can Active Track at 4K60, but the specs says it only can do tracking at 30fps, regardless of resolution. I would be happy if the specs are outdated!
    Regarding tracking, there's one thing I would be really happy if you could test. The specs says that the Air 2s can do tracking in sports mode, without obstacle avoidance. That means it can fly at its full speed, 19m/s. In normal mode it can do tracking at 15m/s with obstacle avoidance turned on. The Mini 3 Pro on the other hand is supposed to only do tracking with obstacle avoidance turned on leaving it at a maximum speed of 10m/s. That's quite a big difference, if the specs are correct.
    One important difference between the drones is the charging time. According to the specs it takes 1h 40m per Air 2s battery. Charging all three of them takes 5 hours. That's quite some time. With the Mini 3 Pro the charging hub takes 57 minutes per battery (Charging all three takes 2 hours and 51 minutes). If you have a spare usb-c charger, you can charge one battery in the drone at the same time. That means you can charge three batteries in just 1 hour and 54 minutes, less than 40% of the charging time for the Air 2S.
    Usb-c also makes the Mini 3 Pro more portable, you can charge it on the go using powerbanks. It's easy to find cheap chargers anywhere. If you travel light, it can share the charger with a table or laptop. Another fun feature is that the charge hub can act as a powerbank. I wouldn't wear down my expensive drone batteries unless I really had to, but if your controller runs out of charge, that's a better alternative than not being able to fly.

    I am hoping to find some great locations for filming some future TH-cam videos for my channel further up HWY 80, maybe closer to Truckee. Donner Lake is amazing but not enough off the beaten path. I have filmed up there in the off season and that is fine, but there are so many tourists other times of the year.

      From my understanding at the moment, the RC Pro ($1200) only pairs with the Air2s and Mavic3. The smart controller with the Air2s is supposed to pair with the other DJI drones being produced now (Mini2/3). I have the Air2s with the smart controller and will add a Mini2 or Mini3 and be able to use just one smart controller for both drones, which is a nice feature. I just hate using cell phones.
