Ultra SX90 by Armstrong /Lennox {after finding an outside the house gas leak } My gas company man looked at my furnace combustion exhaust pipe directly connected to the to the exhaust inducer fan blower assembly .The stock part is a "Y" shaped tube that is made to snap together along it's length along with factory applied black silicone seal . He pronounced this unit cracked (because of a small amount of rust from moisture below it) even though it was too dark to see! The revised kit to fix it was $200.00 & $95.00 service call, & they shut the gas off in winter.. .Moisture like you discovered was the next problem , I did what you did, & ordered another fan (mines 23yrs old) I'll keep it until this one fails THANKS YOUR VIDEO MADE ME MORE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM.
Thanks - you just saved me a service call. Our Lennox furnace stopped working sometime last night. I got far enough in my diagnostics to determine that the combustion blower wasn't working because it was filled with water - when I was able to get it going it gurgled like crazy. After watching your video, I pulled off the boot, drained about a cup of water from it, and cleared a few leaves and bugs. The condensate line was also plugged. I was then able to siphon about a cup or so of water from the blower housing. And now I'm back in business. I love it when I can fix things myself, especially when the solution is so simple. Thanks again.
Thank you for the video! You prompted me to verify the draining tube and noticed it was clogged with gunk. The furnace seems to be heating normally now. I hope the inducer motor was not damaged by the strain of the clogged draining tube. You saved me lots of time and money, very much appreciated.
I'm so glad you posted this! My blower started making a ton of noise, turned out the plastic blades broke into pieces clogging the condensate line. The boot wasn't full of water, but there were a bunch of rather large plastic pieces in the boot and stuck in the line. I would not have thought to check the boot, so thank you very much!
Thank you for this video. I have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I just bought a inducer motor from a guy in Mississauga and I will replace my inducer motor but I am glad you told me to take that boot off and clean everything in there. Doing both will save me alot of hassle and money. Even if I dont need a new motor, I dont mind replacing mine now because it is 9 years old and I know they usually go out in 10 years or less. I was just at Midland and Progress today too. Funny how your video comes up at the perfect time.
Thank you very much! You saved me 800 bucks! The professional I called wanted to replace the motor and tube. He didn't know why it was making the whistling noise. After finding your video, I removed the motor and found a bird stuck in the tube. Cleaned it all out, running fine again.
Thank you so much sir!! You are a money and life saver!! My furnace was not working and I was online all day looking for possible issues and you’re video made me find it!! I was about to spend god knows how much to have someone come fix it!!
This worked for me as well. The furnace would not turn on any more and I could only get it going occasionally. I had the same blower noise as well. Turned out this was the solution! The boot was clogged with debris and the hose even had a bee in it! Make sure to wash the hose out thoroughly as it seemed to take a bit to get it clean. Make sure to have a bucket directly under the boot since it is likely full of water. Cover the electronics and under the boot with a towel to protect them from drips. Fan also had water in it. Easy procedure to save hundreds in repair costs. Thanks again G Martin!
Nice work! Very helpful. My Lennox had the same problem. Btw, the cylindrical device, which is not a pump, looks like a condensate neutralizer filter tube; such is typically filled with small pellets. The pellets are made of calcium carbonate (and other chemicals) designed to neutralize [balance the PH of] the acidic condensate water before draining outside to the earth.
Very helpful. Thanks for the part numbers. I live in Bolton and I have the same "builder's grade" furnace in my home. My fan had the same problem, drained it a few years ago. Motor cooled off all was good for a couple years. Fan impeller finally exploded from fatigue. Now I'm armed with a reference. Thanks again!
I had the same problem with my furnace, call HVAC Company to come over and service it, them replace that inducer fan cost me $610, for the fan Plus $230 for the service call believe it was $150 at a supply house they just rip you off. Thanks for the good video I appreciate it. I listen to my furnace every day every time it starts up
Brother, you are a goddamn lifesaver. You save me a bunch of money. My condensation drain was clogged like crazy causing the furnace to make noise, get hot and take 3-4 tries to actually come on
Thanks for the video. This helped me. This is in early April 2021 in Toronto. Temperature outside is around 14 degrees. So was not an emergency situation. Suddenly one morning I heard some crunching sound coming out of vents. When I check it was coming from the motor. I switched off and On multiple times but still the sound was coming and it was even getting worse. Luckily I found your Video Sir, which helped in understanding the possible issue. I called HVAC companies, they right away convince you to get new Furnace for $2300. They were saying fixing it will cost me around $600. After seeing your video I was confident that I could do it myself. I order the induced motor from Amazon for $240, and replaced with my old one. And everything worked fine. Thanks Alot for saving my $$$
Thank you for the video! we're definitely going to try this since out inducer motor is making a loud sorta humming noise. and it still turns on and works fine.
Great Video. Likewise heard noise... like fan turning in water as well as hot motor. Removed hoses and motor assembly. Dried off motor assembly and noticed one of the hoses was clogged. Cleared and replaced. So far no noise. Thanks for tip
Thank you for the info. I had my heater condensate system clog up one time. It was basically caused, because when the contractor installed the inlet & outlet PVC pipes ( vertically through my roof) they left the inlet air pipe straight vertical and open, telling me that it wasn't a concern because only rain water would get into it, which would get pumped out. Well, years later, I was hearing noises from the inducer motor & blower, and after some disassembly, I found... pieces of maple tree "helicopter" seeds, which had gotten into that vertical pipe by being blown around with wind from some nearby tall maple trees. I fixed the clog, and put a 180 degree elbow , inlet facing down, on that intake and it's not clogged since. now the unit is 18 years old and I am facing a replacement due to age & wear, but at least I know it's not a difficult DIY job.
Same problem, same motor, same furnace (minus the water) We woke up in a cold house this AM. I fumbled around and noticed the inducer motor was stopped and warm to the touch. I stuck a wooden stick into the slots and manually moved the veins. It was a bit sticky at first then started moving very slowly. As I continued to help it spin, it picked up speed, the front bearing started whining. I put a few drops of 3 in 1 oil onto the bearing and it quieted right down and the furnace kicked on. Couldn't find an oil port for the other bearing so I assume it's self contained, self-lubricating. I think I heard the front brass bearing say thank you but I may have imagined it. I just learned that these furnaces are supposed to be serviced from time to time which we never did. My bad. I cleaned a few handfuls of pet hair and gunk from the blower motor, changed the disgusting filter and cleaned out the bottom with a vacuum. Working right as rain now.
This is a great simple video. My motor is making a grinding noise, and even though I have a different Lennox furnace, and it seems many more parts in the way, I'm going to clean this tomorrow and see if that fixes it. Mine is from rust that has come from the water not draining correctly. If not I'm going to the same store to get a motor. Thank you for the video and the tip on the store!
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does any of you know a trick to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb forgot my login password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
@Crew Karson thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I don't think that's a pump, that's a condensate neutralizer. Condensate is acidic, and will attack many plumbing system components. The neutralizer takes care of that, however they are a maintenance item and are not cheap. They do plug up.
My fan broke on a weekend with 1degF windy weather. Took it apart and the squirrel fan top support ring broke. Tied it up with some kevlar string, hopefully it'll run till the local parts store opens.
Hi I have a lennox 9OUGFA3-75-6 furnace is that the same as yours. What exact motor do I need to ask Arme supply for? Thanks in advance your video was great hopefully I can fix my motor!
Thank you for the tip. I found a similar replacement part at bulbspro.com for about a $100 but they didn't have it in stock so I ended up getting it from Amre. I hope the furnace lasts more than this winter!
I have the same furnace as you do. Received the blower kit but it came with 3 gaskets. Thick (round) black one, thin (square) black one and thin white (round) one. Which one did you use with Lennox furnace and also did you put the gasket on the blower assembly or on the furnace side?
I can't recall. Used the closest one to what was there. I believe I placed it on the blower unit but I don't think that matters. Wherever it stays in place when you attach the blower will be fine. Use whatever gasket works to seal the unit.
Fyi There is something called the p-trap If this is clogged the fan will get full of water to the point the fan on that motor is spinning thru water. So clean out the ptrap like every few years

Thanks, sir. I had the same issue. I just did what you mentioned. The noise disappeared completely. Very helpful. God bless.

Thanks brother ! Seems to have worked - my hose was absolutely filthy....blower sounding much better now 😃!
Genius...pure genius!!!
I live in Toronto, owe you at least a beer!

@Crew Karson thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im trying it out now.

@Crew Karson it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my ass!
@Karter Ameer Glad I could help :D
Thank you so much. Had this exact issue and a quick drain fixed it pronto. You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar if you don't mind my saying.
The thing on the floor is to clean the condensate from its high acidity. Its called a mineral neutralizer.
It worked! Although I found a dead baby bird inside the intake of the fan assembly that was touching the fan blade. Thank you for the video.
Thank you sir for DIY, I have same problem
Thank you for this video! Cause you are a money saver!
Thanks Martin for uploading this video and very well explained....
Thanks a lot for the video. I have the exact same problem and your video really helped. Cheers!
Crosby fan 87 II
I think the cylindrical thing on the floor is a condensate pump. It pumps the water a greater distance.
I don't think that's a pump, that's a condensate neutralizer. Condensate is acidic, and will attack many plumbing system components. The neutralizer takes care of that, however they are a maintenance item and are not cheap. They do plug up.
No it's not a pump it's an acid neutralizer.
Thank you for the video, I had the same problem. I also went to Amre Supply.
Thanks for sharing this info
Thank you for the helpful information!

Did this also solve the motor getting hotter than normal?
Thank you for the tip. I found a similar replacement part at bulbspro.com for about a $100 but they didn't have it in stock so I ended up getting it from Amre. I hope the furnace lasts more than this winter!
Thanks for the link!
thanks for useful information
I just bought the inducer motor for my old lennox furnace but it doesn't have anywhere to connect the tube on it..... any suggestions??
Do you have any video recording of the sound?
Thank you for this video, just save me a bunch of money'.
How do you remove the bottom access panel on your furnace?
Lift it up
I have the same furnace as you do. Received the blower kit but it came with 3 gaskets. Thick (round) black one, thin (square) black one and thin white (round) one. Which one did you use with Lennox furnace and also did you put the gasket on the blower assembly or on the furnace side?

If this is clogged the fan will get full of water to the point the fan on that motor is spinning thru water.
So clean out the ptrap like every few years
where did you say you got the motor from?
Amre supply
