I spent my childhood with two Basset Hounds and they were very agile, never got fat, but had bottomless bellies and they slept very very deep. Still they were very active, territorial and not lazy dogs.

also, i dare you to look at me with a straight face and say that running a basset through agility trials has any bearing to the judges whatsoever in regards to this dopey looking fleshwad of a dog breed. you know as well as i do that this is JUST for audience amusement, lol.

I live in rural Illinois, and someone dumped a male Bassett down the road away from the house. My wife and I took him in . What a dog! Stubborn..my gosh he could stare down a Missouri mule. He had a wonderful personality and just loved it when we took walks in the woods. That nose determined the direction he was going. He was a amazing dog. I miss Ole Sherman.

What you can't hear in this video is just HOW HYPED his mom had to get to get him "wound up," but once The Diesel was warmed up, there was power in spades. There sure are times when a basset hound can get rambunctious and is full of energy, but anybody who has ever taken a basset for a walk has found out that their energy goes from Full-On to Okay-I'm-pooped-so-carry-me-the-rest-of-the-way-home in next to no time. I'm amazed at the stamina that Diesel had in this event! I was half-expecting him to stop about halfway through and just plop down for a nap, like every self-respecting basset hound would have done. Bassets are the best damn breed of dog -- certainly the funniest.
